Randy J. Olson

GERMANTOWN, Wis. - Randy J. Olson, 55, of Germantown, formerly of Kingsford, passed away Jan. 20, 2008, at his home.

Randy was born Aug. 16, 1952, in Manistique. He was a 1970 graduate of Kingsford High School and a 1975 graduate of Ferris State University. Randy worked as a systems analyst at several businesses in the Milwaukee area for many years.

He enjoyed coaching his son's baseball team, golfing, taking his boys to Green Bay Packer games, playing catch, going to car shows with his son and skiing. His life was his kids.

Randy is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; two sons, Patrick and Danny of Germantown; his mother, Joyce (Belisle) Paupore of Kingsford; a brother, John (Darla) Olson of Spread Eagle, Wis.; two sisters, Marlene Hahn of Citra, Fla. and Lisa (John) Bosley of Kingsford; nieces and nephews, Stacy (Dan) Steber, Daryl Olson, Taylor Bosley, Kim (John) Manuel, and Ed (Elaine) Poniatowski and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis E. Olson; stepfather, Phil Paupore; brother, Ronald Olson; and brother-in-law, Woodrow Hahn.

Visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson- Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Agnes C. Calliari

VULCAN - Agnes C. Calliari, 86, of N1617 River Road, Vulcan, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Agnes was born May 24, 1921, in Norway, daughter of the late Daniel and Anna (Kurtz) Hart. She graduated from Vulcan High School in 1939 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Agnes married John Calliari on April 17, 1942, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1974. Agnes was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan where she previously served on St. Anne's Circle. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her homemade meat and cheese raviolis and pasties. She will be missed for her love of making food for family and friends. Agnes also enjoyed cross stitching and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters, Roxanne (Vern) Kirschner of Powers and Cirie Tinti (Thomas LaFreniere) of Vulcan; five grandchildren, Daniel (Danette) Kirschner, Vernon Jr. (Sara) Kirschner and Danielle (Dennis) Chartier, all of Powers, Jim Tinti of Green Bay, Wis., and Nikki (Chris) Schlegel of Menominee Falls, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren, Allyssa, Jonathon, Savana, Austyn, Fabian, Owen, Ethan and Logan; two special friends, Debbie Cologna and Teresa Rehn, both of Norway; and several nieces and nephews.

Agnes was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Hart, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan.

Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at the church. Fr. James M. Roetzer and Fr. Michael T. Vichich will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Norway Township cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dan Kirschner, Vernon Kirschner Jr., Jim Tinti Jr., Chris Schlegel, Dennis Chartier and Tom LaFreniere.

Valerie Ann Freeman

QUINNESEC - Valorie Ann Freeman, 69, of Quinnesec, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home in Quinnesec.

She was born June 23, 1938, in Norway, daughter of the late Richard and Marjorie (Eller) Trecartin. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

Valorie had an associate degree from Bay College in early childhood development and a degree in cosmetology from Northern Michigan University. She had worked at various beauty salons in the area.

Valorie loved flowers and gardening, and enjoyed watching the birds. Her grandchildren were the center of her life.

She is survived by three sons, John (Sue) Carlson of Sagola, Jim (Mary) Carlson of Iron Mountain, and David (Sarah) Freeman of Kingsford; one brother, Richard (Mary) Trecartin of Iron Mountain; one sister, Lois Schomer of Aurora, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jodi Carlson, Nick Carlson (Stephanie Gentile), Mark Carlson, and Jacob, Benjamin and James Freeman; her lifelong friend, Arlene and special friends, Chris and Dawn.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a brother-in-law, Herman Schomer.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Kingsford Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Terry Van Haute

IRON MOUNTAIN - Terry VanHaute, 64, of W8079 U.S. 2/141 in Iron Mountain, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.

Terry was born Jan. 29, 1943, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Henry 'Cotton' and June (Fisher) VanHaute. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1961 and served in the United States Navy.

Terry married the former Janice Granquist on Aug. 10, 1974, in Iron Mountain. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Iron Mountain.

Terry was well-known in the area for his love of photography, poetry and story writing. His poems were sent around the world, and he had received many photos and signatures in return. He was the local high school sports photographer for several years.

Terry loved trains and had many photos of his favorites. He also enjoyed music and was the drummer for numerous local bands. Terry also loved to walk and visit his many friends along the way.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janice; a sister, Darcia (Phillip) Johnson of Florence, Wis.; a sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; his step-mother, Dorothy VanHaute of Kingsford and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Kerry Don VanHaute.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Snyder will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park on Monday at 9 a.m.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Patricia F. Davis

XENIA, Ohio - Patricia Faye Davis, 65, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the Greene Oaks Health Center in Xenia, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 7, 1942, and is the daughter of the late Kenneth Sr. and Bernice (Halvorsen) Davis of Aurora, Wis. She was a lifelong resident of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area before moving to Xenia, in 2005 to be with her children.

A devoted mother, grandmother and loving sister, she cherished her time with family and friends. She enjoyed bingo, playing darts and was a lifelong Packer fan.

Pat is survived by a son, Eugene (Carrie) Freeman of Xenia, and a daughter, Sheri (JR) Dunkley of Culberson, N.C.; one son-in-law, Ray Balkum of Iron Mountain; three brothers, Kenneth (Diane) Davis Jr. of Iron Mountain, Jeff (Linda) Davis of St. Ignace, Lee (Nanette) Davis of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Darlene Patrick of Kingsford, and Kim (Mark Van Pembrook) Sgrecci of Aurora, Wis.; five grandchildren, Jessi (Anthony)Wood of Dexter, Ga., Jason Prudhomme of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jon and Kara Freeman of Xenia and Bill Balkum of Green Bay, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Meridith, Drake, Isabella and Kristian; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Balkum and her grandson, Benjamin Balkum; her special friend, Wally Plourde. She enjoyed mothering his three sons, Joe, Mike and Doug.

A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. at funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Rudolph "Rudy" Seelund

IRON MOUNTAIN - Rudolph 'Rudy' Seelund, 89, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1918, in Metropolitan, son of the late John and Anna (Nygaard) Seelund. Rudy graduated from the Felch School. He served with the United States Army during World War II.

He married June Lund on March 29, 1941, in Chicago, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2001.

Rudy worked as a rewind operator at the Niagara Paper Mill for many years retiring from Stora Enso in 1980. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Rudy was an avid sports fan, and loved to watch his Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers, and the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, and working in the yard.

He is survived by two sons, Lee John (Linda) Seelund of Iron Mountain, and David (Hsiu-Ping) Seelund of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Nancy (Terry) Raiche of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Michael Seelund, Bobby Jean (Theo) Curtis, Johanna (Matt) Parker, Joel (Debbie) Cotton, Melissa (Rodney) Anderson, Samantha (Anthony) Micheau, Jason (Bridget) Raiche; great-grandchildren, Tyler Cotton, Taylor Cotton, Emily Alquist, Haley Alquist, Sydney Micheau, Alex Micheau, Tess Curtis, Quentin Lindholm; sister, Linnea (Porta ) Anderson of Cambridge, Minn.; sister-in-law, Marie (Lund) Rock of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Anna, Elna, Arlene, Alvina, Iver, Reuben, Rachel, Gerda, and Esther.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Chinery will officiate.

Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Voluntary Service at the V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Frances J. Corsi

IRON MOUNTAIN - Frances Jane Corsi, 93, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1914, in Republic, the daughter of the late James and Minnie (Carbum) Fowler.

Frances graduated from Republic High School in 1934. She enjoyed dancing and baking. Frances' family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

On June 30, 1936, she married Alfred Corsi in Iron River. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1976.

Frances is survived by six children, Rhoda Paronto of Stephenson, Dahly Bosley of Iron Mountain, Al (Susan) Corsi Jr. of The Woodlands, Texas, James (Barbara) Corsi of Mt. Prospect, Ill., Cynthia (Rod) Gordon of Iron Mountain, and Penny (Hal) Bentz of Iron Mountain; one brother, Ray (Sue) Fowler; one son-in-law, Lewis F. Bonner of Mississippi; one brother-in-law, Leonard Tambling of Negaunee; one sister-in-law, Fedora Fowler of Republic; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and her good friends, the Fred 'Palm Beach' and Sophie Cerasoli family.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eileen Bonner; three brothers, James, Milburn, and Millard Fowler; one sister, Aileen Tambling; one grandson, Charles Paronto; and a son-in-law, Floyd Paronto.

Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Snyder will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Fr. Basil Steven Goerner

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Fr. Basil Steven Goerner, 75, of Hilton Head, formerly of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home in Hilton Head.

He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Alfred and Mary Margret (Popp) Goerner. Following high school, he received a bachelor of science in pulp and paper science from New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse, N.Y.

Steve married Mary Patricia Avery in June 1949, and she preceded him in death in 1985. He had retired from Champion International Corporation after 35 years of service in various technical and operations managerial positions. He entered the Sacred Heart Seminary in 1989 and was ordained by Bishop James Garland on June 11, 1993. He was assigned as an associate pastor of Our Lady of Peace in Ironwood from 1993 until his retirement in 1997.

He is survived by three daughters; Kathrine Dowda of Cincinnati, Dr. Christine Avery of New York, N.Y., and Mary Alice Funke of Cincinnati; one brother, Prof. Edward Goerner of South Bend, Ind.; two sisters, Dr. Dorothy Ducker of Birmingham, Mich. and Alice Pike of Valleso, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Bishop Alexander Sample will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial. The priests of the diocese will concelebrate the Mass.

Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Idella E. Southwell

NIAGARA, Wis. - Idella Southwell, 89, of Niagara, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1918, in Hermansville, the daughter of the late Fred and Agnes (St. Louis) Ayotte.

Idella was a longtime resident of the area. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Idella was a great seamstress and enjoyed making crafts.

She married George Southwell.

Idella is survived by her brother, Warren (Betty) Ayotte of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a special niece and nephew, Marlene and Bruce Secrist of Kingsford; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; three sisters; and two brothers.

Private family services will be held at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Lay Minister Jody Wall will officiate.

Burial will be in the Norway cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Kingsford Funeral Home with the arrangements.
