David C. Linn

IRON MOUNTAIN - David Clark Linn, 45, of 711 E. Margaret St. in Iron Mountain, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

He was born May 30, 1962, in Iron Mountain, son of Clark and Joan (Hyland) Linn. He was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1980. David earned an associate degree from Bay College following graduation.He served in the United States Air force.

David had been a member of Pine Grove Country Club and Timberstone Golf Course. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at camp with family and friends. He also loved to watch his nieces and nephews participate in sports.

He is survived by his parents, Clark and Joan Linn; one sister, Mary (Mark) Balcer of Kingsford; one brother, John (Beth) Linn of Kingsford; and his nieces and nephews, Cari and Catherine Dulan and Joseph, Allen, and Emma Linn.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Barnes, Steve Coughlin, Todd Johnson, Robert Lindholm Jr., Lance Peterson, and Bill Wittenbach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marygrove Retreat Center in Garden.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Kingsford Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Betty Thomas

IRON MOUNTAIN - Betty M. Thomas, 88, of Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Beverly Living Center in Florence, Wis.

She was born on Dec. 28, 1919, daughter of the late Garnet and Alice (Mellis) James. She was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1941.

Betty married William 'Willie' Thomas on May 4, 1951, in Iron Mountain, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1996. In her early years she enjoyed getting together with friends and playing cards.

Betty is survived by a son, Bill (Donna) Thomas, and a daughter, Mary (Mike) St. Onge, all of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Nicole Thomas, Bob (Corissa) Thomas, and Bruce, Ryan, and Tasha St. Onge; great-grandchildren, Kaylah, Austin, and Kenzie Thomas; sisters, Marge (Ken) Nelson of Florida, and Alice Derwinski of Iron Mountain

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Bob James, and a sister, Ethel Barham.

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Armond VanGuyse

AURORA, Wis. - Armand Van Guyse, 88, of 864 County Road N, Aurora, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at his home.

Armand was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Stekene, Belgium, son of the late Edmond and Joanna (DeBleyser) Van Guyse. He served in the Belgian Army during World War II and was taken as a prisoner of war by the Germans. He was active in the underground resistance in Belgium during the war.

Armand married Maria Vertenten on July 7, 1945, in St. Gilles, Belgium. They immigrated to the United States in 1954 and lived in Chicago until 1981, when Armand retired from Wirtz Realty Corp. and they moved to Aurora.

He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Armand loved gardening, fishing, feeding and watching his birds and he took great pride in all he did.

He is survived by three sons, Edmond Van Guyse of Aurora, Eddy (Christina) Van Guyse of Long Beach, Calif. and Mark (Rita) Van Guyse of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; six grandchildren, Edmond, Victoria, Anthony, Sophia, Olivia and Grace; two sisters, Alfrida Van Guyse of Boom, Belgium, Lea (Rothier 'Theo') Van Guyse of Kemzeke, Belgium; a brother-in-law, Rene Tock and a sister-in-law, Maria Ven Den Berghen, both of DeKlinge, Belgium; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Josie Vertenten-Daelman of Arlington Heights, Ill.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and an infant grandson, Luke.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Roy Fredrickson

KINGSFORD - Roy F. Fredrickson, 86, of 356 Barton St., Kingsford, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Roy was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Homestead, Wis., son of the late John and Ida (Johnson) Fredrickson. He attended Kingsford High School and joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1942. Roy served aboard the USS Essex aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theatre of Operations for three years.

He married the former Mae Krans in May 1942. She preceded him in death in 1983.

He retired from Lake Shore Inc. after 37 years of service. Roy was a member of the Aurora Free Church, Florence Veterans of Foreign Wars, officer of the Lake Shore Credit Union, Over 60 Club of Homestead and the Lake Shore Retirees.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed going to the Finnish dances, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching the Packers and spending time joking and laughing with family and friends.

Roy is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Anderson) whom he shared 23 years of marriage with. He is also survived by his sons, Gary (Ann LaCoursier) Fredrickson of Peavy Falls, John (Sharon) Fredrickson of Kingsford, Jim Fredrickson of Pound, Wis., Kevin Anderson of Aurora, Wis., and Kim (Karen) Anderson of Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter, Siri (Bill) Henson of Aurora and former daughter-in-law, Jodie Anderson of Quinnesec; 17 grandchildren, Andrea Fredrickson, Shelly (Jim) Myllyla, David (Corrie) Fredrickson, Julie (Chris) Fezatte, Deanna (Allen) Michaud, Debra (Bill) Miller, Jodie (Clint) Peterson, Wayne (Kristina Santini) Fredrickson, Amy (Richard) Wery, Kari Anderson, Rebecca (Brian) McBride, Janae (Adam) Haleen, Erin (Charles) Salamone, Jolynn (Billy) Jones, Heather (Mark) Ziarnik, Jill Anderson and Lynn (Tom) Golfis; and 20 great-grandchildren and three on the way.

In addition to his wife, Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Fredrickson; a sister, Amy Laursen; a grandson, Dale Fredrickson; and a niece, Connie Miller.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Aurora Free Church.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Rev. Karl Utzat will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Gary, John and Jim and grandsons, Wayne, Mike and David.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

John J. Mente

KINGSFORD - John Joseph Mente, 88, of Kingsford, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the VA Medical Center.

He was born on July 11, 1919, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late John and Lucy (Kattnig) Mente. John graduated from Iron Mountain High School. John served in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific as a radio operator in the island hopping campaigns.

John worked for Ford Motor Co. in Kingsford as a machinist until it closed. He worked for Michigan Manufacturing Co., Martins Manufacturing Co. and Kingsford Broach and Tool, retiring in 1984.

John married Dorothy Ouimette on Oct. 17, 1942, in Iron Mountain. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage.

John loved to volunteer and loved to work with and help people. He was a Eucharistic minister and lector and served on the church council at the American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. He also was instrumental with the Dickinson Area Catholic School. He was a member of the housing commission, the American Legion Kingsford Post 363, and the Kingsford Senior Center Board. He was also a member and past officer of the Knights of Columbus and numerous other boards and committees in Iron Mountain and Kingsford.

John loved working with wood and rebuilding old and damaged furniture. He also enjoyed helping his son and sons- in-law remodel their homes. John loved to fish and being outdoors. He enjoyed helping his wife in the garden and taking day trips with his wife and grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Roger (Pam) Mente of Cincinnati; two daughters, Marie (Jim) Blanton of Kingsford, and Cindy (Larry) Steele of Breitung Township; two sisters, Mary Provencher of Kingsford and Louise 'Wib' Mente of Iron Mountain; one brother, Raymond (Julie) Mente of Shawano, Wis.; five grandchildren, Sean (Dawn) Blanton of Delavan, Wis., Christopher of (Aymie) Blanton of Ponte Verde, Fla., Cassie Steele of Breitung Township, Jeffrey Steele of Breitung Township, and Dan (Melissa) Willis of Florida; four great- grandchildren, Kirstin Blanton, Myah Blanton, Marrissa Willis, and Maia Willis; one brother-in-law, Richard (Jane) Ouimette of Arizona; his special friends, Sandy and Steve Orchard and their daughters, Sara and Sabrina and many nieces and nephews.

John was also a great-grandfather to three foreign exchange students that Sean and Dawn Blanton sponsored from Switzerland, Belgium, and Thailand.

John was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Mente on Dec. 28, 1989; three brothers, Joseph, Bernard and Paul Mente; two brothers-in-law, Donald Provencher and LeRoy (Catherine) Ouimette.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

The American Legion Kingsford Post 363 will conduct a military service at 5:30 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and the parish prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Visitation will also be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will celebrate the Mass of Christian

Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

John Mente will be remembered for his love of God and people, his quick wit and his abounding patience. He had the ability to talk with you with love and understanding, and not talk down to you . He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. God has taken a great man home.

Edward E. Eldridge

IRON MOUNTAIN - Edward E. Eldridge, 80, of 1016 Prospect Ave., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

Ed was born May 17, 1927, in Arbor Vitae, Wis., son of the late Edward E. Sr. and Alice (Juve) Eldridge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Ed worked for Carlson and Goulette from 1957 to 1966 and for Paul Electric from 1966 until his retirement in 1984.

Ed loved to dance with his wife, Jane, the love of his life. Ed also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling and working with his son in the garage.

Ed is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Jane; two sons, Jack (Lori) Eldridge of Marquette and Michael (Mary) Eldridge of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Stephanie (Stan) Mannino of South Beloit, Wis. and Judy Weissert of Escanaba; five grandchildren, Julie Eldridge of Marquette, Kate and Megan Eldridge of Iron Mountain, Travis (Susan) Eldridge of South Beloit, and Guy (Tracey) Weissert of Escanaba; three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kenzi Eldridge of South Beloit and Brandace Weissert of Escanaba.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert 'Bobbie' Eldridge and a brother, Lennie Eldridge.

Ed will always be remembered for his wonderful smile.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military graveside honors.

Edward's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Irma G. Jones

KINGSFORD - Irma Gale Jones, 85, of Kingsford, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Congress Park, Ill., daughter of the late Ore and Addie (Borden) Green. Irma has been a resident of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area since August 1994, coming from Dickinson, Texas.

She married Eugene R. Jones on Sept. 1, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1998.

Irma had been a 20 year member of First Baptist Church in Dickinson and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. She worked for many years at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Her love of the Lord was first and foremost in her life. She was a devoted grandmother and loved spending time with her three grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, John E. Jones of Yuicaipa, Calif.; her daughter, Kathy (John) Kelm of Spread Eagle, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Keto of Grand Rapids, Mich., Audrey Kelm of Sacramento, Calif. and Christian Kelm of Milwaukee; siblings, Martha 'Annette' (Al) Crabb of Hammond, Ind., Mary (Cass) Gonska of Huntsville, Ala., John (Jeanette) Green of Crown Point, Ind. and Margaret 'Susie' (Al) Morningstar of Munster, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Private family funeral and graveside services are being held. Rev. Michael March and Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.

Burial will be in the Cauldwell cemetery in Richmondale, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory at First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford, Mich., 49802 or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1210 S. Kimberly Ave. in Iron Mountain, Mich., 49801

Robert A. Miller

VULCAN - Robert A. Miller, 57, of Vulcan, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Wendy Bouche

MARQUETTE - Wendy Lynn Bouche, 48, of Marquette, and former Iron Mountain resident, entered eternal life Wednesday, January 2, 2008, as the result of a tragic automobile accident in Marquette.

Wendy was born May 1, 1959 in Iron Mountain, a daughter of Roy and Elaine Johnson and was raised in Iron Mountain. She was a 1977 graduate of the Iron Mountain High School, working at ShopKo while in high school and until 1984 when she moved to Marquette. She received her bachelor's degree in Nursing from Northern Michigan University, and was employed at Marquette General Hospital for many years, working in the ICU and Stepdown Units. For the next four years, she was employed as a traveling nurse across the country. Wendy enjoyed knitting, crafting, sewing, baking, cooking, and most recently treasured time spent with new grandson, Mikey.

Wendy's special interests were in helping people and she was a regular blood donor and participated in Locks of Love; always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Holly) Bouche of Ishpeming and Jeremy (Angela) Bouche of Marquette; special daughter, Carol of California; very dear grandson, Mikey Bouche; her parents, Roy and Elaine Johnson of Kingsford; a sister, Darcy (Tom) Kowalkowski of Aurora, WI; two brothers, Russell (Mickey) Johnson of Kingsford and Nicky (Dana) Johnson of Holt; a special friend, Mike (Janet) Bouche of Arizona; her aunts and uncles, Judy Ritter of Gobles, Arthur 'Butch' Richter of Crystal Falls, and Nancy (Jim) Hird of Texas; nieces and nephews, Tony (Robyn), Dustin, Andrew, and Laura Kowalkowski, and Jennifer Bouche; cousins, Terry 'Guy' (Kathy) LaCount, Kim (Rob) Beachy, and Rachelle LaCount all of Gobles; special family friends, Kathy Brockman of Lansing, JoAnne (Bob) Burdick of Marquette, and Sherra Howell of Salt Lake City, UT. Wendy was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey Johnson; grandparents, George and Mabel Richter; and an uncle, David Richter.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am CST at the Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford. Memorial services will follow at 11:00am CST at the funeral home.

The family has entrusted the Kingsford Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.
