Glen V. Blixt

Iron Mountain - Glen V. Blixt, 68, of Green Bay, died Wed. March 12, 2008 at San Luis Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Ashwaubenon. He was born on January 6, 1940 in Iron Mountain, MI the son of the late Walter and Martha (Lachapell) Blixt.

Glen attended St. Lawrence Minor Seminary and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1958. Glen served in the Michigan National Guard from 1961-1966. He managed the Tri-City Drive In Theater for several years and then worked at the Commercial Bank as a janitor. He was a custodian and supervisor for the DuPage County, Illinois Health Department and most recently worked at Feld Properties as a cleaning supervisor.

Glen enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

Glen was a very generous and loving person to his family and to anyone who needed his help. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He always had a great sense of humor, even during the last week of his life!

He is survived by two sisters Elizabeth (Walt) Sala of Albuquerque, NM, and Jeanette Marchand of Kingsford, a brother-in-law Ray Marchand of Iron Mountain, an uncle Joseph (Hilda) Lachapell of Menasha, WI and many cousins.

He also leaves his nieces and nephews, to whom he was very close - Lisa (Dave) Temple, Sally (Chad) Baker, and Jill (Tim) Fresso, two nephews Michael (Katrina)Marchand and Steven Hohbein, and their families

Visitation will be Fri. from 9-10am at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. The memorial Mass will be Fri. at 10am at the church. Father Daniel Zaloga will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

June DeLongchamp

KINGSFORD - June M. DeLongchamp, 72, of 113 Rexford in Kingsford, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

She was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Chicago, daughter of the late Roy and Hilda (Hill) Kleis. She has been a resident of this area for most of her life coming from Rock.

June worked as a pharmacy technician at the K-Mart pharmacy and as a nurse's aide at the Iron Mountain Veterans Administration Medical Center for 10 years.

She married James DeLongchamp on Aug. 30, 1980.

June was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society. She loved animals and was involved with training and showing her dogs. June was an accomplished musician and played organ and bass guitar in several local bands.

She is survived by her husband, James; a son, Tim (Joan) Groleau of Quinnesec; a daughter, Cindy (Dave) Duecker of Twin Lakes, Wis.; a sister, Delores Kivekas of Gladstone; grandchildren, Roy and Darren Groleau, Rachael Allen and Jason Duecker and great-grandchildren, Noah Duecker and Lillian Allen.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Groleau and her grandson, Staphan Duecker.

Visitation will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Rev. Debbie Thomas will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Lake Humane Society in her memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Ralph L. Stauffer

KINGSFORD - Ralph L. Stauffer, 86, of 240 Hooper St. in Kingsford, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Ralph was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Niagara, Wis., son of the late Harvey and Ida (Harter) Stauffer. He was a lifelong resident of Niagara and Kingsford. Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had served in the Pacific campaign.

On March 29, 1969, he married Maxine Chartier. He worked for GAF Corp. for more than 35 years, retiring in 1986. Ralph was a past member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain. He loved the outdoors and working in his garden.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Maxine; a daughter, Cathy Lehto of Kingsford; a son, Gary (Karol) Gardner of Sagola; two sisters, Wilma Dabb of Kingsford and Leta Hallgren of Niagara; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kim Gardner; a grandson, Billy Jo Lehto; and a sister, Edna LaGest.

Private family services will be held on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home. Rev. David Anderson officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Patricia P. Varda

KINGSFORD - Patricia P. Varda, 77, of Kingsford, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

Pat was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Bartush) DeFiore. She graduated from Norway High School in 1949 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Pat married Laurence J. Varda on Sept. 9, 1950, in Norway. She worked as a sales clerk at Wards and Crandall Jewelry for many years.

Pat was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford, and was a CCD teacher. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, and playing piano in the band she was in with her husband, father, and brother.

Pat belonged to the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club. She also belonged to a women's card club with her good friends for approximately 50 years.

Pat is survived by her husband of 57 years, Laurence; two sons, Gary (Carol) Varda of Norway, and Robert (Linda) Varda of Kingsford; a daughter, Linda (Michael) Kosovec of Madison, Wis.; one granddaughter, Michelle (Nathan) Barrows of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a stepbrother, George LaFave of Iron Mountain; a stepsister, Alice Branam of Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Kosovec; one brother, Francis DeFiore; one sister, Rosalie Johnson and her stepfather, Raymond LaFave.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the church. Fr. Michael Weompner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Clifford Johnson

NORWAY - Clifford (Kippy) H. Johnson, 77, of Norway, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at his home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Channing, son of the late Henry and Jeanette (Weber) Johnson. He graduated from Channing High School.

Kip enlisted in the United States Army in August 1948. He served in Korea where he was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Bronze Star. He also received the Legion of Merit Award. Kip was a Recruiter for the United States Army National Guard in Iron Mountain. He served his country with pride and honor.

He married Janet 'Dolly' Shander on June 21, 1956, in Iron Mountain at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1983.

Kip was a lifelong resident of the area. He worked for the M.A. Hanna Mining Co. for 20 plus years as a maintenance supervisor until the mine closed. He continued his mining career with the Newmont Mining Co. in Nevada. After a rewarding and fulfilling career as a mining superintendent, he retired in 1998. He was a member of the Sheriff's Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Bombers Golf Course.

Upon retirement, Kip returned to the Iron Mountain area. He enjoyed the great outdoors, laughing and telling a good joke, golfing with his buddies at Bombers Golf Course, and good conversation with friends over a cup of coffee.

He was very involved in his grandchildren's lives, and was known as 'Papa Kip.' He was generous with praise, encouragement and guidance, helping with homework or projects and always having time to listen or just be there for a hug.

He is survived by his only child, Tami (Scott) Nelson of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jenna; four sisters, Jean, June, Elle, and Kay; a brother-in-law, Ken (Donda) Dado of Florida and nieces, Dodie and Karen; a special couple and close friends, Duane and Sue Pollock; and his Hanna Mining, National Guard, golfing and coffee buddies.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Johnson and an infant brother.

Private family services with military guard and graveside services were held.

Memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Care Unit at 1401 S. Carpenter Ave., Iron Mountain, Mich., 49801 in his memory.

Elizabeth Constanza

IRON MOUNTAIN - Elizabeth Costanza, 83, of Iron Mountain, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Mary Sandona. She married Frank Costanza in 1946 in Chicago, moving to California and living there until retiring in1986.

Upon retiring she and Frank moved to the Iron Mountain area and have been here ever since. Liz was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved spending time with family and especially loved being with her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed working with people, loved her pets, and had many of them through her life.

She and Frank lived about three hours from Las Vegas, and together they made many trips there. She really enjoyed spending time in Las Vegas.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Costanza of Iron Mountain; brothers and sisters, Rita (Fred) Bean, Pete (Dorothy) Sandona, Albert (Judy) Sandona, Tony (Irene) Sandona, and Lee Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews

Liz was preceded in death by brothers, Frank and John Dadam and sisters, Rose Heine, Angie Ambrosia, and Geraldine Freeman.

Private family services were held.

William H. Mitchell

IRON MOUNTAIN - William H. Mitchell, 87, of Saginaw, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1920, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Fred and Ruth (Johnson) Mitchell.

He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Bill lived in Saginaw for more than 50 years, where he was a car salesman.

He liked watching all sports, especially college basketball and football. Bill also enjoyed returning to the Upper Peninsula to go deer hunting.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Mitchell of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cal) Tappy, Chris (Michelle) Rexses, and Julia (Todd) Bowles; five great-grandchildren, Brock and Emily Rexses, Mercedes Tappy, and Hanna and Jack Bowles; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Donnel Mitchell and his sister, Geraldine LaPointe.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Edward R. Hansley

NORWAY - Edward Robert Hansley, 50, of Norway, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1957, in Iron Mountain, the son of William and Marilyn (Nicholson) Hansley.

Ed graduated from Kingsford High School in 1976 and Northern Michigan University with a degree in industrial engineering. He worked at Wisconsin Lift Truck of DePere, Wis. as an industrial sales representative. He loved his work. He enjoyed the people he worked with and particularly the customers that he served.

Ed loved his family and friends. His life centered on his son Billy, age 12, whom he affectionately called his 'Little Buddy.' The two of them especially enjoyed their annual trip to Disney World, where Ed would joke that he could officially be a 12 years-old again for a week. Ed was Billy's Little League Baseball coach and helped with Norway youth football. He touched many young men's lives and he was always amazed at how much the boys enriched his life.

He could tell a joke, take a joke and laugh whole heartedly either way. He always had a smile for everyone - a kind word or a friendly wave. He was loved by many. He was a wonderful father and loving brother and devoted son. All will miss him.

Ed also enjoyed going to his camp, 'Just Camp, ' to be with the guys and his family. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, golfing and riding the four-wheelers with Billy were his favorite pasttimes. He was a member of the Oak Crest Golf Club.

Ed is survived by his son, William Edward 'Billy' Hansley of Norway; his parents Bill and Marilyn Hansley of Iron Mountain; one stepdaughter, Sara (John) Huuki of Mohawk, Mich.; one sister, Mary (Steve) Miller of Iron Mountain and their daughter, Stephanie; one brother, David (Lisa) Hansley of Spread Eagle and their daughter, Casey; and one step-grandson, John Huuki III.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Snyder of First United Methodist Church and Pastor Jason Holmes of Maranatha Assembly of God will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been established at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford First National Bank of Iron Mountain for William Edward Hansley for future education.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

David E. Bash

IRON MOUNTAIN - David E. Bash, 52, of Iron Mountain, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

He was born on June 28, 1955, in Chicago, son of Mary (Townsend) and the late Gerald Bash.

He married Marie Steger on Oct. 10, 1988, in Chicago. He has been a resident of Iron Mountain for 11 years, moving here from Chicago.

David enjoyed watching movies, playing video games, watching wrestling and UFC. His family was his life, especially his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Marie; his mother, Mary Townsend; sons, John Childers, Joe Yott, Jerrold Yott, David Bash and Matthew Childers; daughters, Mary Yott, Jeanette Yott, Melanie Bash and Robin Bash; brothers, Gerald Bash Jr. and William Bash; a sister, Regan Pierce and 15 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit, 1401 S. Carpenter Ave., Iron Mountain, Mich., 49801.
