DOUGLAS SPROULL

Pinckney

Douglas Sproull, 18, of Pinckney died April 9, 2006, as the result of a tragic auto accident. He was born Oct. 2, 1987, the son of Joseph and Marie Sproull.

Mr. Sproull attended Abbot Elementary in Ann Arbor, Beach Middle School and Chelsea High School in Chelsea, and Pinckney High School, where he was an honor roll student. He also attained perfect attendance in school having never missed a day since his fifth grade.

As a youngster, he raised money for and sponsored "Phillip the Manatee" in Florida.

Mr. Sproull will be remembered by all as a loving and caring young man who was unselfish and always giving. He was a wonderful son and steadfast friend.

He leaves behind his mother, Marie (Mark Fazel) Eberle-Sproull; father, Joseph (Laura) Sproull; brothers, Jesse Crawford and Eric (Robin) Hammer; sisters, LeeAnn (Larry) Craft, Jillian Sproull and Nichole (Matt) Barnett; niece, Victoria Craft; and nephew, Matthew Barnett. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends also survive him.

His grandparents, Claramon and Janet Eberle and Joseph and LaVerne Sproull, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held noon Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, located at the corner of North State and Kingsley streets, at 530 Elizabeth St. in Ann Arbor.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be offered to Students Against Destructive Decisions or Camp Skyline. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor.

SALLY KATHLEEEN MORAN

Gregory

Sally Kathleen Moran, 58, of Gregory died April 15, 2006, in Ann Arbor. She was born April 3, 1948, in Detroit, the daughter of John and Sophie (Wincenciak) Mischuck.

Mrs. Moran loved being outside, working in the garden. She was a wonderful garden designer and was an excellent interior decorator.

Mrs. Moran was an exceptional mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, and saw the world. She was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea.

On Nov. 13, 1965, she married James Moran, the love of her life, in Warren, and he survives.

She is also survived by a son, Jeffrey (Brenda) Moran of Greenville, N.C.; a daughter, Kelly (Ronald) Kuskowski of Macomb Township; eight grandchildren, James, Danielle, Mitchell, Amanda, Stephanie, Sydnie, Kylie and Jacob; and two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" (Dale) Grabski of Washington, Mich., and Sue Platt of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral Mass was held April 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The Rev. John Miles officiated.

The family received friends Tuesday at Cole Funeral Chapel.

ANN B. JAEKLE

Madison, Conn.

Ann B. Jaekle, 70, of Madison, Conn., died March 21, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., the daughter of Gen. Dwight and Florence (Clem) Beach. She married Donald E. Jaekle Aug. 9, 1959.

Mrs. Jaekle graduated from Vanderbilt University and was employed as a chemist at Smith, Kline and French. She was an active member of the Madison Garden Club, AAUW, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, St. Andrew's church and a member of the Colonial Dames.

In addition to her spouse, she is survived by her son, Donald E. (Laurie) Jaekle Jr.; a daughter, Cynthia (Brian Cute) Jaekle Cute; six grandchildren, Emily, Connor, Elizabeth, Rylie, William and Charlotte; as well as a chocolate lab and Swiss Mountain dog.

She is also survived by three sisters, Cynthia (Beach) Guthrie, Lillian (Beach) Mumaw and Florence "Twinkie" Beach; a brother, Dwight E. Beach Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held March 26 at St. Andrew's church in Madison, Conn. A family graveside service will be held Saturday at the Lima Township cemetery near Chelsea. The Rev. Myra Colvin will officiate.

Local funeral arrangements were handled by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

MATTHEW J. TUTTLE

Chelsea

Matthew J. Tuttle, 28, of Chelsea died in the line of duty April 13, 2006. He was born Dec. 15, 1977, in Ann Arbor the son of Thomas and Janet (Paul) Tuttle. He had lived in Chelsea all of his life.

Mr. Tuttle worked for his family's business, Tuttle Spring Designs, from 1986 to 2000. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1996, and earned a bachelor's degree from Siena Heights in January 2006.

Mr. Tuttle was a captain for the Chelsea Fire Authority since April of 2006, serving since 1997, and also worked for Huron Valley Ambulance since 1998. He was also enrolled in the Police Academy for Chelsea Reserves. In addition, he was a Washtenaw County medical examiner trainee for one year.

Mr. Tuttle was president and past board member of Lake LeAnne Properties Owners' Association. He also was a helicopter and private plane pilot.

On July 31, 2004, he married Mary K. Lisznyai on Mackinaw Island, and she survives.

Also surviving are his parents of Jerome; his mother-in-law, Pamela, of Chelsea; grandparents, Richard and Mary Kalmbach of Gregory; brother, Marc Tuttle of Chelsea; sister-in-law, Kris Loucks of Chelsea; nieces, Andrea and Brianna Loucks; nephews, Jacob Broese and Christopher Lisznyai; niece, Jessica Lisznyai; aunts, Elaine (Wayne) Quick of Holt and Roberta (Gary) Hohenberger of Ann Arbor; several cousins, including Trisha and J.D. Daniels of Lansing and Matt (Bonnie) Lennox, also of Lansing.

He also leaves behind his special search-and-rescue dog, Blaise, and cat, Snickers.

Mr. Tuttle was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Michael Lisznyai, and sister-in-law, Tammy Lisznyai; maternal grandparents, Edwin "Bo" and Thelma Paul; and paternal grandparents, Leo and Ellen Tuttle.

A funeral was held Tuesday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. The Revs. Mearl Bradley and Larry Lyons co-officiated.

The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday and Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the Chelsea Fire Authority Auxiliary.

RILEY SCOTT SUMNER

Chelsea

Riley Scott Sumner, 43, of Chelsea died as a result of a work-related helicopter accident in Washtenaw County April 13, 2006. He was born Aug. 7, 1962, the son of Clyde R. and Merry E. (Grady) Sumner in Highland Park.

Mr. Sumner leaves behind a loving wife, Amy (Jeruzal) Sumner; two beautiful boys, Riley, 4, and Mitchell, age 2 1/2; his parents of Chelsea; and his brother, David.

Mr. Sumner loved life. He was an avid fisherman, planning extensive trips for anyone who would join him. His fondness for the outdoors initiated his interest in golfing and boating.

His collection of John Deere tractors kept growing as his boys continued to express their excitement for tractor rides. Mr. Sumner was often found surrounded by more friends than could be counted, grilling and sharing a glass of red wine.

His desire to be "on the go" led him to express one of his favorite quotes, "Hurry please!"

His ability to think fast on his feet is what made him an exceptional officer with a love for his job that few people ever experience. He achieved the rank of chief of police in Chelsea May 15, 2004. His attention to detail was always obvious in the way that every part of his person was perfectly groomed, including the absence of even a flick of lint on his uniform and the best "flat top" haircut anyone had ever seen.

Mr. Sumner touched thousands of people, including the youngest child and the eldest citizen, but most importantly the two boys that will always be grateful to have been able to call him "Daddy." He was often found driving them through the golf course or boating on the lake.

Mr. Sumner's quest for knowledge made him an expert at any topic he showed interest in, and he never hesitated to share his newfound knowledge. He was greatly loved by all, and is survived by his most loving in-laws, James and Jacquelyn (Michielsen) Jeruzal, Timothy Jeruzal and Cheryl Boglarsky, Harold and Patricia (Jeruzal) Hildenbrand, Christopher Jeruzal and Erin Montgomery.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 14200 Old US-12, in Chelsea. The Revs. William Turner, Mearl Bradley and Joy Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in Chelsea.

The family received friends Tuesday and Wednesday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to an education fund to benefit Riley and Mitchell Sumner.

SHIRLEY ANN BRASSOW

Aliso Viejo, Calif.

Formerly of Arizona, Dexter and Chelsea

Shirley Ann Brassow, 75, of Aliso Viejo, Calif., died May 30, 2006. She was born June 11, 1930, in Farmington the daughter of the late Louis W. and Alma (Inglehart) Esch.

On June 11, 1949, she married Alvin C. Brassow of Dexter at the Faith Lutheran Church. The Brassows lived many years in the Dexter-Chelsea area before moving to Arizona.

Mrs. Brassow worked for Chelsea Milling Co. for years before moving. She then worked for The Siemens Corp., where she retired from in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin, of 57 years; sons, Robert (Ruth) of Pensacola, Fla., and David of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; a daughter, Kathy (Terry) Schaier of Laguna Nigel, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Alice Hadley of Chelsea and Dorothy (John) Milam of Dexter; four brothers, Walter (Mary) Esch of Ann Arbor, Eugene (Norma) Esch of Chelsea, Lester (Carole) Esch of Chelsea and Ronald (Marge) Esch of Munith, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters, Betty in 1942, Doris in 1944 and Margaret Guinan of Dexter on May 20, 1980.

Services were held June 3 at the Green Acres Mortuary Chapel of Light in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Burial was at the Paradise Memorial Park cemetery in Scottsdale.

EMILY CHRISTINE MURREL

Forest, Va.

Emily Christine Murrel, infant daughter of Jeffrey A. and Debra H. Murrel of Forest, Va., was born and died May 9, 2006, and is now with the Lord, her family said.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Caroline; hergrandparents, Jean and Richard Husen of Birch Run, and Roger andHelen Murrel of Dexter; great-grandparents, Adolph and RuthBuschke of Birch Run, Caroline C. Murrel of Ann Arbor and Margaret C. Bauer of Dexter.

Tharp Funeral Home of Lynchburg, Va., assisted the family with arrangements.

MARION K. VOELKER

South Lyon

Marion K. Voelker, 98, passed away June 15, 2006. She was born on March 17, 1908, in Ontario, Canada, to the late Joseph W. and Claretta (Lamb) Hetherington. She graduated from Northern High School.

On June 22, 1929, in Detroit, she married Melvin C. Voelker, who passed away in 1988. She moved to South Lyon six years ago, was a member of the Eastern Star Tyrian Florence #469 OES.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Marilyn (Ken) Wells of Brighton and Charles (Barbara) Voelker of Centerville, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Martha Voelker of Spring Hill, Fla.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son A. Douglas Voelker.

A funeral service was held on June 19. Arrangements were made by Phillips Funeral Home in South Lyon.

GERALD M. COOK

Swanton, Ohio

Formerly of Chelsea

Gerald M. Cook, 87, of Swanton, Ohio, formerly of Chelsea, died May 17, 2006.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. July 12 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Alfred's School in Taylor.

Burial will take place at Mount Olivet cemetery in Chelsea.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

NORRIS E. ROWE

Grass Lake

Norris E. Rowe, 65, of Grass Lake, formerly of Chelsea, died June 24, 2006, after a courageous battle with leukemia and is now home with the Lord, his family said.

Mr. Rowe served in the U.S. Marine Corps, attended Michigan State University and was a buyer for many years, retiring from Metaldye Corp. Sept. 30, 2005.

He was an active member of Mount Hope Bible Church, and enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with family and his sheltie, Tabitha.

Mr. Rowe is survived by his wife, Marjorie Wolfe Rowe, of 42 years; a son, Scott E. Rowe of Atlanta; his mother, Ada Luckett of Gregory; a sister, Dixie (Gerald) Wenk of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Rowe; a stepfather, Clyde Luckett; a brother, Teddy Allen; and a sister, Roma Salyer.

A funeral was held Wednesday at Sherwood Funeral Home in Grass Lake. The Rev. Joseph O'Neill officiated. Interment was at Maple Grove cemetery in Grass Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Hope Bible Church Missions Fund or Mount Hope Bible Church Building Fund.
