MARY CRAFT PERKINS

Manchester

Mary Craft Perkins, 86, of Manchester died Aug. 4, 2006, at her home. She was born April 25, 1920, in Salyersville, Ky., the daughter of Woots and Nelis (Risner) Montgomery.

Mrs. Perkins moved from Kentucky to Manchester in 1956. She was a member of The Church of Christ in Stockbridge. She also worked for 14 years at the Chelsea Retirement Community and at Precision Control in Ann Arbor from 1968 to 1999.

On Oct. 3, 1937, she married Carl Craft in Salyersville, Ky., and he preceded her in death May 16, 1970.

She married Morgan Perkins in Manchester Sept. 2, 1978, and he preceded her in death July 10, 1982.

Survivors include two sons, Frealin (Mary Ellen) Craft of Manchester and Paul Craft of Whitmore Lake; two daughters, Josephine (Harold) Murphy of Brighton and Letha Atkinson of Chelsea; three brothers, R.B., Gemes and Bill Montgomery; one sister, Carrie Farris; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, J.W. Craft, a son-in-law, Warren Atkinson; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Craft; four brothers, Price, Boyd, Frealin and Reese Montgomery; a sister, Lona Patrick; and a great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Rose Clair.

A funeral was held Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Stockbridge. The Rev. Larrel Whitaker officiated. Burial was at Rowes Corners cemetery.

The family received friends at Cole Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made toward Mrs. Perkins' funeral expenses.

BETTY A. RASMUSSEN

Chelsea

Betty A. Rasmussen, 82, of Chelsea died Aug. 24, 2006, at Chelsea Community Hospital after a very short illness. She was born April 24, 1924, in Toppenish, Wash., the daughter of Edward Eugene and Aleta Alice (Packwood) Bennett.

Mrs. Rasmussen had lived in Chelsea since 1969. She attended Central Washington University for two years and was a graduate of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority.

Mrs. Rasmussen was a self-employed piano teacher who left a trail of loving piano students wherever she lived.

She was active in Friends of Four Hands. She also was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was active in choir and played piano for the church.

Mrs. Rasmussen liked to travel, particularly to San Francisco. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

On April 19, 1952, she married Robert Rasmussen in Toppenish, Wash., and he survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Susan (Richard) Huelsberg of Saline and Christine Gaunt of Ann Arbor; a son, Brock, of Pacifica, Calif; and two grandchildren, Steve and Kristin Gaunt.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene, and her Auntie Bess Packwood.

A funeral was held Aug. 28 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Chelsea. The Rev. Karen Schulte officiated. Burial followed at Oak Grove East cemetery in Chelsea.

The family received friends Aug. 27 at Cole Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.

DORIS K. WORDEN

Chelsea

Doris K. Worden, 79, of Chelsea died Sept. 2, 2006, at Chelsea Community Hospital. She was born April 24, 1927, in Jackson County the daughter of Emory C. and Martha E. (Tisch) Lehman.

Mrs. Worden worked part time for Chelsea Public Schools as a playground supervisor and custodian. She also was a member of St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grass Lake.

On Jan. 19, 1947, she married R.V. Worden at St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church, and he survives. Other survivors include two sons, Ronald and Rodney Worden, both of Chelsea; a sister, Maxine L. (Arthur) Ellis of Jackson; brothers-in-law Richard (Beverly) Worden of Jackson and James (Doris) Worden of Munith; and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Worden of Chelsea and Betty (Dan) Cowan of Stockbridge.

Mrs. Worden was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur H. and LaVerne Lehman; and a sister, Marie Bloom.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. The Rev. Scott Schwertfeger will officiate. Burial will follow at Munith cemetery.

The family received friends Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church.

ALVIN "AL" RETTIG

Dexter

Alvin "Al" Rettig died Sept. 1, 2006. He was the youngest child of Albert and Effie (Chardon) Rettig. He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Ann Arbor, but spent nearly all of his life in the Dexter area.

Mr. Rettig was a veteran of World War II, participating in the North African and Italian campaigns. On Nov. 3, 1951, he married Mary Parks in Waterloo, and she survives.

In addition to his family, Mr. Rettig enjoyed dancing, bowling, traveling and following University of Michigan sports. He retired from U of M in 1983 after 31 years of service.

Surviving are his son, Anthony (Karin) Rettig of Dexter; daughter, Linda (Eric) Prinzing of Grass Lake; granddaughters, Melanie, Erica, Lindsay and Lela; step-granddaughter, Jessica; and a sister, Dorothy Schneider.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Elmer; brother, Walter; and a sister, Mabel.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew United Church of Christ in Dexter.

Mr. Rettig will lie instate 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at the St. Andrew cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's United Church of Christ or the American Heart Association.

TEAGAN NOVINA DENISE CARTER

Clearwater, Fla.

Teagan Novina Denise Carter, an infant, died Sept. 4, 2006, at Mease Countryside Hospital. She was the daughter of Matthew Carter and Meagan Killalea of Clearwater, Fla.

She is survived by her maternal grandmother, Ann Marie Ritter of Steinhatchee, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Eric D. Carter of Mesa, Ariz., and Karen W. Schwartz of Clearwater, Fla.; great-grandparents, William and Mary Killalea of Clearwater, Fla., and Joseph Rosann "Demas" Salvante of Steinhatchee, Fla.; two aunts; and one cousin.

JOYCE B. SYSOL

Unadilla Township

Joyce B. Sysol, 64, of Unadilla Township died Sept. 7, 2006, at her home. She was born May 4, 1942, in Detroit the daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Bordine) Thompson. She had lived in the area for the past 30 years, coming from Plymouth.

Mrs. Sysol was involved with the Chelsea Painters and active in the Unadilla Presbyterian Church. Flowers, gardening yellow roses and her grandchildren were what she truly loved.

On Sept. 21, 1960, she married her true love, Joseph S. Sysol, in Redford Township, and he survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John (Maggie) Sysol of Adrian, Jeff (Karen) Sysol of Michigan Center and James (Amy) Sysol of Michigan Center; one daughter, Jodi (Thomas) McCoy of Manchester; two sisters, Diane Hartwick of Livonia and Cheryl (Dave) Redoutey of Holly; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition, several nieces, nephews and special friends survive.

A memorial service was held Sept. 11 at Unadilla Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Qiu officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

DOROTHY E. KAUPP

Dexter

Dorothy E. Kaupp, 87, of Dexter died Aug. 28, 2006. She was born Sept. 28, 1918, to Herman and Anna (Barreith) Heimendinger in Ann Arbor.

On June 15, 1940, she married Ira James Kaupp in Dexter Village. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's United Church of Christ and a lifelong resident of Dexter.

Mrs. Kaupp was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed living her life on a farm in Dexter. For many years, she was a member of the Church Fellowship, Farm Bureau and the Home Extension.

She was a loving mother of Elaine Webb of Northville and Cheryl Dunham of Chelsea; dear grandmother to Brian Webb and Chris Dunham; sister of Lucille Elsenheimer; and sister-in-law to Rose Kaupp and Earl Savery. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her husband, Ira; her parents, Herman and Anna Heimendinger; and her sister, Betty Richardson, preceded Mrs. Kaupp in death.

Visitation was held Aug. 31 at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter. A funeral service was held Sept. 1 at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter.

Visitation was held one hour before the service. Burial followed at St. Andrew's cemetery in Dexter.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's United Church of Christ.

COREY DELANEY

Ward

Corey Edward Delaney, 17, of Ward died Sept. 15, 2006. He was born Feb. 3, 1989, in Brikenfeld, Germany, to Robert Delaney and Carol Ann Teske Wilson.

Corey was a senior at Cabot High School and a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Carol and Ron Wilson of Ward; his father, Robert Delaney of Lakeland; one sister, Brittany Wilson of Jacksonville; two brothers, C.J. Wilson and Trevor Wilson of Ward; grandparents, Beverly Teske of Cabot, Judith Keller of Rapid River, John Delaney of Ann Arbor, and Harold and Ursula Wilson of Butlerville; great-grandparents, Bonnie Delaney of Dexter, and Alfred and Clara Wilson of Cabot; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

A funeral was held Tuesday at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Cabot with Bro. Brent Summerhill officiating.

Interment followed at Evans cemetery in Cabot, with Noah Delaney, Adam Delaney, C.J. Wilson, Blake Wilson, Justin Wilson, John Teske, Randy Wilson and Zack Wilson as pallbearers, and Corey's closest friends as honorary pallbearers.

FRED J. SCHAFF

Stockbridge

Fred J. Schaff, 92, of Stockbridge died Sept. 16, 2006. He was born Jan. 14, 1914, in St. Louis the son of Fred and Terrsa (Stanks) Schaff.

Mr. Schaff enjoyed golf, carving and bowling. He was an avid reader, enjoyed dancing and loved swing music. He also was a quiet man with a great sense of wit.

In 1981, he married Mavis Glenn in Ann Arbor, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Fred (Paula) Schaff of Florida, Glenna (Jerry) Runciman of Stockbridge and Ed (Linda Hoffman) Simonds of Stockbridge; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his niece, Connie Harry.

Mr. Schaff was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his first wife, Marian; two sisters, Helen Clark and Margaret Wiselogle; and a grandson, Tom Schaff.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Oaklawn cemetery. The Rev. Robert Henning will officiate.

Arrangements were by Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stockbridge library.

MARK T. McMILLEN

Grass Lake

Mark T. "Mac" McMillen, 49, of Grass Lake died Sept. 10, 2006, at his home.

He was employed by Ford Motor Co in Saline.

Mr. McMillen is survived by his wife, Gayle; daughter, Mickinli; his mother, Joanne Griffin; his dad, Frank McMillen; sister, Susan (Lenny) Breiding and their children, Patrick and Johanna; brothers, Patrick (JoAnne) McMillen, and Daniel (Judy) McMillen and their children, Tony and Allison; sister-in-law, Linda McMillen and her children, Sam and Michael Paul; and a niece, Molly Breiding.

Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Barbara Preston; brothers-in-law, Bob (Linda) Preston and their children, Tina, Alex, Robert and Laura, and John (Lisa) Preston and their children, Amanda and Travis; and a cousin, Joy Hudson.

His special friends, Billy and Linda McKenzie, and many other caring friends and loving "kids" also survive.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael McMillen, and father-in-law, Robert Preston.

Celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at 16710 Kilmer Road in Grass Lake. The Rev. Mike Mitchell will officiate.

Following the service, there will be a social time with family and friends.
