Joseph Allen "Sleep" Kopp
Iron Mountain - Joseph Allen 'sleep' Kopp, 58, of 1221 Stockbridge, Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at his home. He was born on Sept. 4, 1949 in Iron Mountain, the son of Howard and Lois (Oien) Kopp.
Joe graduated from Iron Mountain High School. He worked at GMJ (formerly Hancock Wood Products) and Maracini's cabinets. While living in Texas, Joe worked for Pennzoil and Grace Drilling Companies.
He was an avid music lover who enjoyed going to concerts with his friends.
Joe is survived by his mother Lois Kopp of Iron Mountain, two daughters Rachael Kopp of Norway and Michelle (Ken) Athens of Chilton, WI, one son Anthony Sculati of Minnesota, two brothers Mike (Laurie) Kopp of Kingsford, and John (Kathy) Kopp of Menominee, MI, two sisters Mary (Chet) Shields of Menasha, WI and Laura (Michael) Paquin of Iron Mountain, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends and his cat Oon.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Howard Kopp.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Donald E. Hertig
Niagara - Donald E. Hertig, 73, of Niagara, died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Maryhill Manor. He was born on Nov. 1, 1934 in Dunbar, WI the son of the late Earl and Elsie (Kehl) Hertig. Don received the Babe Ruth Baseball award while in high school. He graduated from Pembine High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked at the Niagara Paper Mill as an instrument man for many years, retiring in 1997
He married Marilyn Leonard on June 18, 1955 at the Union Protestant Church in Niagara. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2002.
Don was a volunteer for the Niagara Rescue Squad/Niagara Area Emergency Unit for over forty years. He also was a volunteer for the Niagara Historical Society. He served on the Marinette County Board of Supervisors and was a First Aid Instructor. Don was a Boy Scout Leader and received the Order of the Arrow Award for his dedication. He was also a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. In 2006 Don was given the honor of being named 'Mr. Niagara'.
Don enjoyed wood carving and was a member of the Wood Bee Carvers. He also enjoyed flower gardening and square dancing. Don liked to travel and enjoyed his visits to Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Alaska, and Calgary, Canada.
He is survived by two daughters Denise (Dan) Duke of Sobieski, WI and Dani (Mike) Poquette of Iron Mountain, one brother Harold (Sharon) Hertig of Gladstone, five grandchildren Casey and Josh Poquette and Aaron, Colin, and Ian Duke, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son David Hertig on Feb. 13, 2007 and one sister-in-law Carol (Russell) Sauld.
Visitation will be Wed. Jan. 9, from 4-7 pm at the Riverside United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Wed.at 7pm at the church. Rev. Patricia Herdt will officiate. Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Niagara Area Emergency Unit.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

Lois A. Ringuette
Kingsford - Lois Ann Ringuette, 72, of Kingsford, passed away with her family by her side after a brief battle with cancer on Jan. 25, 2008 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on Nov. 23, 1935 in Republic, the daughter of the late Camille and Gladys Venn.
Lois was a cook at the Dickinson Hotel for many years. She loved to play Bingo, build jigsaw puzzles and cross stitch. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a devoted Packer fan. Lois was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church.
She married Anthony 'Tony' Ringuette on May 1, 1954 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Republic. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2000.
Lois is survived by five children Sandy (Greg) Hendricks of Kingsford, Cindy (Larry) Koller of Kingsford, Diane (Dennis) Safemaster of Unity, WI, Kathy Pietrantonio of Kingsford, and David (Diane) Ringuette of Kingsford, one brother Robert (Sharon) Venn of Champion, one sister Lillian Starkey of Republic, one sister-in-law Donna Venn of Republic, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, her dear friend June Dorfler, her Bingo buddy Dorothy Spencer and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather Irving 'slim' Lindberg, one brother Paul Venn, and two sisters Rosemary Venn and Bernice Usitalo.
Visitation will be Wed. from 3-6pm at Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6pm Wed. at the funeral home. Father Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Calvin "Sody" Soderberg
KINGSFORD - Calvin 'Sody' Soderberg, 82, of 381 Cass Ave. Kingsford, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI.
He was born March 17, 1925 in Iron Mountain son of the late Ernest and Lily (Barker) Soderberg. Calvin graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1944 and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served with the 30th Infantry division as a 300 radio operator. Calvin engaged in battle at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. Decorations and citations earned include the Victory Medal, Combat and Expert Infantryman Badge, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars and a Bronze Star.
Calvin married Gloria Massie on October 23, 1948 in Loretto, MI. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2006. Calvin was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and the Knights of Columbus council 1585. He enjoyed going to camp, hunting, watching sports and working around the house. Calvin loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He also spent time reminiscing about his days in the service and looking at old Army memorabilia.
Calvin is survived by two sons, Michael Soderberg of Ishpeming and Joel (Becky) Soderberg of Scottsdale, AZ; a brother, Harold (Coleen) Soderberg of Mesa, AZ; three sisters, Lillian Rowe of Evanston, IL, Verle Merik of Elkhart, IN and Barbara Borsini of Rockford, IL; a grandson, Marc Soderberg; four granddaughters, Amanda, Lindsey, Kristen and Chloe Soderberg; one great-grandson, Ayden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Soderberg.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00am on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00am at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Esther I. Bennett
Esther E. Bennett, 82, formerly of Iron Mountain, MI, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. She was born January 28, 1925 in Ironwood, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Hjalmer and Lempe Hill. Esther was a graduate of Ironwood High School. She married Thomas S. Bennett on June 11, 1949 and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2001. Esther was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and ceramics. Esther was preceded in death by three brothers, Carlo, Hjalmer and John Hill and two sisters, Edna Hill and Elsie Wirtenan.
She is survived by her son, Tom Bennett of Coleman, WI and her daughter, Patricia Kowall of Palantine, IL. Two sisters, Evelyn Shipley of Arizona and Elna Doramen of Algonquin, IL. Many nieces and nephews.
Private family services are being held
Burial will be in the Kenton cemetery.

Leonard "Sonny" Paquin
Leonard "Sonny" Paquin, 71, of 917 E. Sagola Ave. Kingsford, died Mon. Dec. 24, 2007 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sept. 19, 1936, the son of the late Leonard and Roberta (Richards) Paquin.
Sonny graduated from Kingsford High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard until his honorable discharge in 1957. Sonny coached a state championship Babe Ruth Baseball Team in the 1960's. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, and listening to country music. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
He married Sandy Ponzio in 1962 in Kingsford. She preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2002.
Sonny is survived by five children Joe (Jean) Paquin of Kingsford, Mike (Laura) Paquin of Iron Mountain, Honey (Eric) Grigg of Kingsford, Angela (Joe) Poquette of Kingsford, and Jean Paquin of Kingsford, three brothers Ted (Sylvia) Paquin of Iron Mountain, Lester (Betty) Paquin of Detroit, and Randy Paquin of Iron Mountain, three sisters Marie Hicks of Aurora, Sheila Walters of Mississippi, and Rochelle (Larry) Short of Aurora, nine grandchildren Allan Paquin, Kelly Paquin, Nicole (Brad Machus) Paquin, Megan Paquin, Amanda Grigg, Lenny Poquette, Joe Poquette, Crystal Poquette, and Omar 'Geno' Nevils IV, three great grandchildren Luke Machus and Alasa and Lilly Poquette, a special friend Dale Hicks, and many nieces and nephews.
Sonny was preceded in death by one brother Larry Paquin and one sister Renee Anderson.
Visitation will be Sat. from 10-11am at American Martyrs Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be at 11am at the church. Father Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Hall. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret J. Suszka
Margaret J. Suszka, 73, of 4295 Thompson Rd. Florence, WI died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at her home.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek, WI. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the church. Fr. David Schmidt will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Fence cemetery.

Howard A. Dumke
IRON MOUNTAIN - Howard A. Dumke, 70, of 509 Pelham St. in Iron Mountain, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 15, 2007.
He was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Brillion, Wis., son of the late Frank and Mildred (Schultz) Dumke. For most of his life, Howard lived in the area and worked in the transportation industry. Howard enjoyed collecting antiques for family and friends and was an avid Nascar and Green Bay Packer fan.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; 11 children, Kathy (Henry) Patrick, Howard (Kim) Dumke, Lori (Dale) Baldwin, Tim Dumke, Vicki Wojdyla, Jim Dumke, Tommi Sue (Terry) Quick, Heidi (Mark) Lehto, Bill Dumke, Rebecca (Aaron) Trager and Chris Dumke; a brother, Robert (Esther) Dumke; a sister, Lois Barnes; a brother-in-law, Lawrence (Mary Lee) Brooks; a sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson; 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Howard was also preceded in death by an infant son, Lawrence Robert Dumke; a grandson; his mother-in-law and father in-law, Raymond and Emmy Brooks and three brothers-in-law, Clarence Barnes, LaVerne Brooks and Lynn Johnson.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Laona cemetery.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

James "Jim" Baravetto
IRON MOUNTAIN - James 'Jim' Baravetto, 71, of 203 Quinnesec St. Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at his home.
Jim was born May 24, 1936 in Iron Mountain, son of the late James and Rose (Andrini) Baravetto. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1954 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Jim worked as a welder and equipment operator for the city of Iron Mountain for many years. He was a member of the Trappers Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and 4-wheeling. Jim was the maintenance man for Camp Pottsville where he loved to spend time.
He is survived by two brothers, Donald (Lola) Baravetto and Roger (Pat) Baravetto, both of Iron Mountain; a sister, Gail Baravetto of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Pamela (Jack) Wallis, Paula (Steve) Gazza, Patti (Michael) Maloney, Mark (Deb) Baravetto, Tina Baravetto, Mark (Lisa) Blomquist, Gina (Barkalow) Jim Kay, Deidra (Barkalow) Tim Little, and Travis Barkalow; many cousins including special cousins, Gerry Giuliani and John Baravetto; and several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thurs from 4:00-7:00pm at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:30am at the funeral home and 11:00am at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ozzello, Jackie Raffin, John Baravetto, Gerald Giuliani, Mark Baravetto and Vince Fiorucci.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Raymond D. Bryngelson
HOMESTEAD, Wis. - Raymond D. Bryngelson, 87, of Niagara, Wis., formerly of Homestead, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at the Appleton Medical Center. He was born on March 6, 1920, the son of the late Emil and Hilda (Hellman) Bryngelson. Ray married the former Beatrice J. Schuls on July 28, 1945 in Aurora and she preceded him in death on March 26, 1994. Ray worked as a dairy farmer and drove a milk truck for Wahlstrom's dairy in Aurora for many years. He was a certified property assessor and also drove school bus for the Florence schools.
Ray was a lifelong resident of this area. During World War II he worked at the Ford plant building gliders. In the 1960's and 1970's, he served as the Homestead Town Chairman and on the Florence County Board. One of his accomplishments was developing the first Homestead Annual Budget. He was extremely interested in baseball and played semi-pro baseball in the interstate league. In his early twenties he had a try-out with the St. Louis Cardinals. Ray was a member of First Lutheran church. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, Chicago Cubs fan and more recently a Milwaukee Brewers fan. He built his own hunting camp and enjoyed many years of hunting and entertaining there with family and friends. He and his wife traveled extensively in the southern United States in their motor home. At the age of 80 he traveled by himself to Australia and New Zealand.
In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Lester Brynelson and two sisters, Edna May and Bernice Brynelson.
He is survived by his daughters, Joan (Randy) Howell and Doris (Bill) Olson both of Appleton, a sister, Evelyn Fogelquist of Boulder, Colorado and three grandchildren, Matthew Howell, Valerie Olson and Gail (Abraham) Rotich.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am Saturday, September 22, at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Saturday at the church. Rev. James Chinery will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
