Leonard Turrie
Leonard A. Turrie, 90, of Aurora, WI, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara. Leonard was born February 18, 1912 in Iron Mountain, MI son of the late Joseph and Anna (Morosini) Turrie. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1931. Leonard worked for Ford Motor Company in Kingsford for 18 years. He also worked as a milk man for several years and drove truck for his sons' logging company for 15 years. Leonard was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, United Commercial Travelers, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and was a member of the Upper Peninsula Bowling Hall of Fame.
Leonard is survived by two sons, Bruce and Randy Turrie, both of Aurora, WI; a daughter, Donna (Tom) Wittock of Flushing, MI; a brother, William Turrie of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, Terry (Pam) Wittock, Larry (Jill) Wittock, Kris (Dan) Lawniczak, Merijo Turrie, and Becky Turrie; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brian and Mark Wittock; four brothers, Joseph, Rudolph, Kenneth and Charles Turrie; and one sister, Adeline Gessner.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 25, 2002 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Lori Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Allan T. Jarvis
ALLEN PARK, MI--Allan Thomas Jarvis, 51 of Allen Park, MI, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 while deer hunting in Iron County. He was born October 5, 1951 in Wyandotte, MI, son of Dorothy (Etheridge) Jarvis and the late Albert T. Jarvis.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie (DeMuri) Jarvis; three daughters, Angela (Mike) Budai, Allison (Tony) Saulino and Andrea Jarvis; his mother, Dorothy Jarvis; five brothers and sisters, Jerry, Donna, Brian, Mike and Pam; father in law and mother in law, Guido and Marie DeMuri of Iron Mountain; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Robert and Janet Fredy and Bruce and Mary Cassanova, all of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 21st from 5:00 to 9:00pm and on Friday, November 22nd from 1:00 to 9:00pm at the Martenson Funeral Home, 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, November 23rd, at St. Frances of Cabrini Catholic Church. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park cemetery.
Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Robert Paruleski
NORWAY - Robert J. Paruleski, 75, of W5733 River Meadow Lane, Norway, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Kingsford, son of the late John and Leah (Zorzy) Paruleski. He was a resident of the Kingsford area for most of his life, residing in Norway for the past 14 years.
Bob married Marjorie Bartoletti on May 13, 1950, in Iron Mountain. He had worked for the Iron Workers Local 783 in Marquette from 1951 until his retirement in 1990. Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway and a former member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. He enjoyed golfing and carpentry, and was an all around handyman.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marjorie; a son, David (Laura) Paruleski of Edwardsville, Ill.; a daughter, Bonnie (Peter) Czurak of Appleton, Wis.; two brothers, Bernard 'Bud' (Rita Lu) Paruleski of Green Bay, Wis., and Lyle (Peggy) Paruleski of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Shirley (John) Smith of Norway and Joyce (Don) Sherman of Milwaukee, and three granddaughters, Molly Jo Czurak, Fallyn and Ava Paruleski. He was preceded in death by two sons, Fr. Robert Paruleski in June of 1994, and an infant son, Terry Michael Paruleski in 1953, and a brother, John Paruleski.
Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin and Fr. Mark McQuesten will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Pallbearers will be John Smith, Richard DeRidder, Ronald DeBernardi, David Gustafson, Louis Pellegrini, and Robert Rossato.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Peter Rietveld
IRON MOUNTAIN--Peter A. Rietveld, 75 of Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, November 12, 2002 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born September 12, 1927 in Belfeld, Netherlands, son of the late Peter H. and Bertha (Gietman) Rietveld.
Peter earned seven diplomas in such fields as psychology, geography, and sociology and was employed as a registered nurse in mental institutions in his native country, working primarily with epileptics. He was also a member of the priesthood prior to coming to this country in 1959. Peter married Jane Daley on May 5, 1962 in Elba, WI. They moved to the area in 1970 coming from Green Bay. Peter began working for Dickinson Memorial Hospital in August of 1970 in the Radiology Department. He retired in 1989 as Chief of Radiology. After his retirement, he worked at the Clark Station to fill his time.
He was a member of St. Mary & St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and coaching, playing, and refereeing soccer. Peter was an avid Packer fan. He is survived by his wife, Jane; four sons, Bryan (Jennifer) Rietveld of Kingsford, John (Cathy) Rietveld of Kingsford, Peter Rietveld of DePere, WI and Mark (Aneta) Rietveld of Waucedah; two daughters, Terri (Richard) Bieti of Breitung Township and Mary (Gavin) LaMaide of Marquette; four brothers, John (Harriet) Rietveld of Combined Locks, WI, Jerry (Margie) Rietveld of Menasha, WI, Anthony (Donna) Rietveld of Stevens Point, WI, and Ted Rietveld of Minnesota; a sister Maria 'Reit' (Case) Bavinck of Neenah, WI; thirteen grandchildren, Monica and Joseph Rietveld, Cassandra and Courtney Rietveld, Matthew Bieti, Corey and Sydney Rietveld, Jordan and Gavin Jr LaMaide, Cody, Austen, Sawyer, and Mason Rietveld and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Adrian, and twin brother Raymond. A Memorial Mass was held today at St. Mary & St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Meri Kay DuFord
IRON MOUNTAIN--Meri Kay DuFord, 55, of 106 W. Grand Boulevard, Iron Mountain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 12, 2002, while her family was by her side. Meri Kay was born April 29, 1947 in Traverse City, MI, daughter of Helen (Curry) Dean and the late Garth Dean. She moved to Iron Mountain with her family in 1963, graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1965 and went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Northern Michigan University. She married Larry DuFord on October 10, 1970 at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Meri Kay worked for Family Chiropractic in Kingsford for many years. She attended the Maranatha Assembly of God and participated in the Covenant Bible Study. Meri Kay was an avid tennis player, a member of the Adult Tennis League and enjoyed running, boating and golfing.
Meri Kay is survived by her husband Larry; a daughter, Kit DuFord (Jeff DeMuri) of Kingsford; her mother, Helen Dean of Iron Mountain; two brothers, Randy (Pamela) Dean of Grand Junction, CO and Rex Dean of Kingsford; two sisters, Sandra Dean of Iron Mountain and Sue (Mark) Deacon of Clarkston, MI; and seven nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, November 14th at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 15th at the Maranatha Assembly of God. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Maranatha Assembly of God. Rev. David Wilton will officiate. Burial will be at cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff DeMuri, Mark Deacon, Lorne Deacon, Keith Dean, Tom Carlson and Jack Reidy.

Lorraine Supa
IRON MOUNTAIN--Lorraine D. Supa, 78, of 623 E. Grand Blvd., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Hyland nursing home. She was born September 14, 1924 in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Oliver and Helma (Johnson) Hallman. She was a resident of Iron Mountain for most of her life. Lorraine was a 1943 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. She married Joseph Supa on October 16, 1943 and he preceded her in death in February of 1982. Lorraine was a member of the First Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church and was a member of the Lydia Circle, the quilting club, card club and alter guild. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Lorraine was preceded in death by a son, Douglas; a brother, Lloyd Hallman; and a grandson, Todd Szczudlak.
She is survived by a son, James Supa of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Barbara (Kenneth) Szczudlak of Mexico and Linda (Brian) Zittergruen of Muskego, WI; a brother, Oliver (June) Hallman Jr. of Hawaii and Alaska; eight grandchildren, Mark (Margaret) Supa, Shelli (John) Behnke, Troy (Kelly) Szczudlak, Kristi Zittergruen, Kelli Zittergruen, Joseph Supa, April Supa and Jacob Supa; four great grandchildren, Braydon Supa, Shea Supa, Tyler Szczudlak and Molly Schultheis-Supa.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 7th at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the First Lutheran Church. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be cemetery Park.

James Scott
IRON MOUNTAIN--James F. Scott, 73, of W7690 Scott Dr., Breitung Township, MI died Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born March 15, 1929 in Kingsford, son of the late George and Rose (Grey) Scott. Jim graduated from Kingsford High School in 1946. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Jim married Willie Moore on March 23, 1948 in Bristol, VA.
He leaves his wife, Willie; five daughters, Kathy Scott of Arlington, VA, Carol (Todd) Maurina of Forestville, WI, Ida, Amy, and June Scott all of Kingsford; two sons, Gregory Scott of Iron Mountain and Donald (Pam) Scott of Michigamme, MI; seven grandchildren, Brian and Jeff Scott, Alan and David Scott, Joseph and Jimmy Scott, and Jeremie Maurina; two brothers, George Scott of Peshtigo, WI and Joe Scott of Lower Michigan; one sister, Barbara Frosch of Hillsdale, MI; one step-sister, Dorothy VanHook of Detroit, MI; and one sister-in-law, Connie Scott of Irons, MI.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy and Martin Scott; two brothers, Bob and Bill Scott; and one sister, Marion Kelley.
Jim was a very hard worker and worked for Kimberly Clark in Niagara for 42 years, retiring in 1985. He also owned and operated Scott's Evergreen Nursery. Jim loved to hunt and fish when he had free time from work.
Private family services will be held.

Mable Underwood
FLORENCE--Mable A. Underwood, 78, of Brutus, MI, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at her sons home in Florence, WI. She was born June 4, 1924 in Flint, MI and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Gibbs. Mable married her husband Laverne on July 2, 1943. They have been residents of Alanson for 39 years. She owned and operated the Clip and Curl beauty shop in Alanson for over 30 years. She was a member of the Brutus United Church of Christ. Mable was very active in the community. She was a member and past president of the Alanson Womens club and the Emmet County VFW Auxiliary. Mable loved music and art. She played the organ and accordion and enjoyed painting. She also enjoyed spending time on the river. Mable is survived by her husband, Laverne; a son, Les (Jana)Underwood of Florence, WI; a brother, John Gibbs of Alpena, MI; and three grandchildren, Adam, Haley and Zak Underwood all of Florence, WI.
Memorial services will be held Monday November 11, at 11:30am from the Brutus United Church of Christ in Brutus, MI. A memorial will be established in her memory to the Alanson Beautification Center: Hillside Gardens. P.O. Box 326 Alanson, MI 49706.

Esther Dawe
FOSTER CITY - Esther Marie Dawe, 98, of Foster City died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. She was born Oct. 16, 1904, in Foster City, daughter of the late Swan and Emelia (Dahl) Peterson. Esther graduated from Escanaba High School. She went on to Northern Michigan University and received her bachelor's degree and then her master's degree from Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn. Esther taught in the elementary grades in Norway and numerous other schools throughout the Midwest, the longest being in the public schools of Mankato, Minn. She returned to Foster City in 1971, retiring after 31 years of teaching. Esther married Dr. William H. Dawe and he preceded her in death in 1976. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of St. Paul, Minn. She attended teacher seminars in Norway, Sweden and traveled to Europe on several trips after retirement. Esther was a member of Mission Covenant Church of Foster City and the Covenant Women's Organization. She served in many official capacities in various organizations of the church.
Esther is survived by her son, Dr. David (Betty) Dawe of Clovis, Calif.; a brother, Quentin Peterson of Kingsford; a grandson, Andrew Dawe of Clovis, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Halderson and Hildur Nelson, and five brothers, Harry, Rudolph, Holger, Stanley and Roy Peterson.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Foster City cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City.

Richard Demers
IRON MOUNTAIN - Richard Demers, 64, of Memphis, TN and Iron Mountain, MI passed away on October 29, 2002 at his home in Memphis, TN.
He was born on July 18, 1938 in Newmarket, New Hampshire son of the late Tony and Helen Silver Demers. Richard worked for Northwest Airlines for 40 years. He loved to fish and water ski with his family, especially at Lake Antoine. Richard took great pride in his gardens.
He leaves his wife of 24 years, Joan Demers; five children, Connie (Jeff) Jayne of Iron Mountain, Cindy (Ron) Reynolds of Iron Mountain, Mike Massie of Iron Mountain, Kevin Massie of Green Bay, and Ann White of Green Bay; 6 grandchildren, Kellin, Taylor & Marlo Jayne, Kevin & Karen Reynolds, and David White. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Rebecca Ann Crosslan
NIAGARA, Wis--Rebecca Ann Crosslan, 28, of 1088 Heights St. Niagara, WI and her unborn daughter, Elizabeth Ann Winney Crosslan, died Friday, November 1, 2002 as a result of an attempt to save her daughter, Desiree, from a house fire.
She was born February 18, 1974 in Iron Mountain, daughter of David and Sandra (Perron) Crosslan. Becky lived most of her life in Goodman, WI and graduated from the Goodman-Armstrong High School in 1993. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Goodman. Becky was an avid animal lover and she enjoyed shooting pool in the Iron Mountain Women's pool league.
She is survived by her parents, David and Sandra Crosslan of Goodman, WI; one daughter, Kayla Louise Crosslan at home; her fiancé, Scott Winney of Niagara, WI and his daughter Brier Winney; maternal grandparents, Ernest and Zita Perron of Iron Mountain; one brother, Ernest Crosslan of Goodman, WI; two sisters, Zita (Daniel) Leask of Iron Mountain and Heather Crosslan (Jason Bevard) of Kingsford; two nieces, Jennifer Bevard and Hannah Leask, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
Friends may call from 4:00pm to 6:30pm Wednesday, November 6th, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 6:30pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in the Goodman cemetery.

Desiree Rose Crosslan
NIAGARA, Wis--Desiree Rose Crosslan, 4, of 1088 Heights St. Niagara, WI, died Thursday, October 31, 2002 as a result of a house fire.
She was born June 15, 1998 in Iron Mountain and was the loving daughter of Rebecca Crosslan. Desiree was active in the 'Just for Kids' Head Start program in Niagara. She loved animals, just as her mother did.
She is survived by her sister, Kayla Louise Crosslan; her grandparents, David and Sandra Crosslan of Goodman, WI; maternal great-grandparents, Ernest and Zita Perron of Iron Mountain; her mother's fiancé, Scott Winney and daughter, Brier of Niagara; an uncle, Ernest Crosslan of Goodman, WI; two aunts, Zita (Daniel) Leask of Iron Mountain and Heather Crosslan (Jason Bevard) of Kingsford; two cousins, Jennifer Bevard and Hannah Leask, and many great aunts, great uncles and friends.
