Margaret Duby
KINGSFORD--Margaret Josephine (Kanyuh) Duby, 86, of 333 Newton St. Kingsford, died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at ManorCare Nursing Home in Kingsford.
Margaret was born March 17, 1916 in Marinette, WI daughter of the late George and Mariatte (Skrivanek) Kanyuh. She was the youngest of twelve children who have all passed on. She married Merton Duby on June 12, 1933 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1993, shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary. Margaret was a volunteer at the V.A. Hospital for 47 years and she was honored many times with awards and medals. She was past president and secretary for St. Veronica's Circle of American Martyrs Church and worked with the Christian Youth Organization for many years. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to baby sit for her grandchildren and great grandchildren who have many fond memories to cherish. Margaret enjoyed traveling with her husband and family throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. She loved to cook, bake and can vegetables from her garden. Margaret also loved spending summers at her cottage on Spring Lake where the whole family had many memorable times.
She is survived by three children, Robert (Mary) Duby of Racine, WI, Carolyn (Wesley) Paquette of Wakefield, MI, and Sharon (Richard E.) Larson of Bass Lake in Iron Mountain; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, one great granddaughter, Casey Klema, and one grand son-in-law, Dominic Mascarette.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00am Saturday, January 4, 2003 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Timothy Larson, Stan Henry, Todd Drake, Randy Klema, Mark Rossmann, Steve Ries, James Paquette, Terry Fetters, John Maki and Mark Flood. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain to handle the funeral arrangements.

Albert Witte
IRON MOUNTAIN - Albert C. Witte, 40, of 1111 E. Margaret St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at his home after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Al was born July 25, 1962, in Iron Mountain, son of Gilbert and the late Jean (Shultz) Witte. He was a 1981 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and a lifelong resident of the area. He worked for several years as a mechanic for Town and Country Ford. He worked for himself for some time and then for Hamm's Service and Langin's Transmission. Al was a member of the National Rifle Association, the gunsmithing institute and the High Class Four Wheel Drive Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hunting. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Al loved his dog and constant companion, Spike.
He is survived by his father, Gilbert (Joan) Witte of Iron Mountain; a brother, Brian (Jennifer) Witte of Kingsford; a sister, Cheryl (Steve) Quick of Iron Mountain; his aunt, Betty Formolo of Iron Mountain; two stepchildren, Brandon and Nickolas; three stepbrothers, Bill (Vicky) Burke of Door County, Wis., Richard Burke and Steve Burke of Great Falls, Mont.; a stepsister, Denise Muldoon of California, and his nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Logan, Wyatt and Chloe Witte, Ryan and Danny Quick. Al was also survived by many special friends.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
The family entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Donald Rouse
IRON MOUNTAIN - Donald Rouse, 79, of 1108 Prospect Ave., Iron Mountain, formerly of 1710 S. Stephenson Ave., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Aurora, Wis., son of the late Edward and Cora (Schabel) Rouse. Donald married Marion Lindgren on June 12, 1943. She preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1994. He had been a resident of the area for most of his life. Donald worked as a bricklayer for the Local Union 6. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, an honorary member of the Sherwood Forest Bowman's Club in Sussex, Wis., and a former member of the Norway Moose Lodge. Donald loved hunting, trout fishing, working, traveling and being at camp. He would go surf-fishing in the Gulf of Mexico while wintering at South Padre Island in Texas.
He is survived by a son, George (Arline) Rouse of Crivitz, Wis.; two daughters, Jean Freeman of Iron Mountain and Judy (Dennis) Lechner of Slinger, Wis.; a brother, Gordon (Mary) Rouse of Rushford, Minn.; seven sisters, Marvel (Frank) Whitford of Iron Mountain, LaVerne (Dick) Moffett of Florida, Doris (Donley) Nichols of Florida, Barbara (Don) Trammel of Florida, Jeanette Jordan of California, Sharon (Joe) LaPoint of California and Anita Rouse of California; six grandchildren, Leah (Dave) Arndt of Milwaukee, Chris 'Butcher' (Tina) Rouse of Hartford, Wis., Jill (Ray) Zielinski of Hartford, Brenda (Ed) Freeman of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Angela Freeman of Iron Mountain and Kayla Freeman of Iron Mountain, and eight great-grandchildren, Amileah, Avery, Brady, Carlie, Shane, Samantha, Jillian and Donald.
Donald was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Rouse.
He will also be sadly missed by his beloved dog, Maggie.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at noon Friday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Rouse, Chris Rouse, Dennis Lechner, Bob Henry, Jason Dailey and Allen Freeman.
Memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospice.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Donald's home health nurse, Barbara.

Hannah Hodgins
IRON MOUNTAIN - Hannah L. Hodgins, 91, of 301 Madison Ave., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 9, 1911, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Patrick and Lisa (Carlson) Lindberg. She had been a resident of this area for most of her life. Hannah married Vernon Hodgins on Aug. 27, 1929 in Saginaw, lower Michigan. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1991. For 20 years she and Vern owned and operated Vern's grocery and cabins at the junction of M-95 and U.S. 2. Hannah graduated from North Dickinson High School in 1996. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Sandra Foley Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Sagola Township senior citizens center. Hannah loved to play cards, she was one of the founders and a 54-year member of the 500 card club. She did excellent needle work, was a great cook and baker, and enjoyed flower gardening.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hannah was preceded in death by a son, Paul Hodgins; and three brothers, Albert, Charles and Hugo Lindberg.
She is survived by her daughters, Verna (Tom) Hower of Kingsford, Marge Hodgins of Kingsford, Ruth Ann (Henry) Badini of Iron Mountain, and Alice (Gerald) Taff of Iron Mountain; a sister, Elsie Goertler of Flint, lower Michigan; seven grandchildren, Tim Hodgins, Dave (Tammy) Hodgins, Mark Hower, Dianna (John) McDonald, Robin (Bruce) Strauss, Dickie (Val) Burby and Jennifer (Trey) Rush; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Donna Lindberg will officiate. Burial will be in the Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tim and Dave Hodgins, Mark Hower, Dickie Burby, Patrick Hodgins and John McDonald.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Carol Ann Person
RANDVILLE - Carol Ann Person, 56, of Randville, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Manor Care Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Nov. 16, 1946, in Chicago, daughter of Leonard and the late Vera 'Teddy' (Warner) Dabler.
Carol was a member of the Moonlighters Club and was active in many charities and enjoyed doing crafts. She was a professional homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Warner and Eugene Dabler.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; her father, Leonard Dabler of Antigo, Wis.; two daughters, Joeleen (Jason) Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev. and Danell Person of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Donald Warner of Park Forest, Ill., Anthony 'Butch' Matuszczak of Crivitz, Wis. and Leonard Jr. 'Shorty' Dabler of DesPlaines, Ill.; four sisters, Antoinette 'Sis' Marshman of Kenosha, Wis., Karen Schriner of Augusta, Ga., Debbie Hoffman of Neenah, Wis. and Diane 'Deed' Brown of Racine, Wis.; two grandchildren, Caleb and Sydney; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Randville Community Center on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Amos Marston
IRON MOUNTAIN - Amos Wilbur Marston, 96, of 903 Park Ave., Iron Mountain, died early Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at home in his sleep.
He was born July 8, 1906 in Chicago. After graduating from high school in Wheaton, Ill., he attended Wheaton College where he received his bachelor's degree in 1928. He began teaching high school that year in Channing, where he also coached football, basketball and baseball. He completed a master's degree in school administration at Columbia University in New York in 1931. He taught school in Leland, lower Michigan, for one year before returning to Channing in 1933 as superintendent of schools. He began teaching junior high school in Iron Mountain in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 at the time of World War II. He served 3 1/2 years, including six months in the European Theater. He married the former Lucy Carleton Wilds of Oxford, Miss. in November, 1945. He returned to Iron Mountain as principal of the junior high school. Over the years, he assumed various teaching and administrative positions in the Iron Mountain school system, and he became the principal of East Elementary School in 1963. He coached tennis and was a lifelong enthusiast of the sport. He retired in 1972. He was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford. He was also an active member of the Iron Mountain Rotary Club and the Gideons. He did volunteer work in the Dickinson County prisons and, with his wife, conducted volunteer religious services for many years at Highland Nursing Home and Manor Care Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Corwin; and three brothers, George Marston, Edwin Marston, and Arthur Marston.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Marston; one daughter, Mem (Bill) Lloyd of St. Paul, Minn.; four sons, Walter (Susan) Marston of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan, John Marston of Mexico City, Mexico, James Marston of Iron Mountain, and Samuel (Heidi) Marston of Severn, Md.; seven grandchildren, Katie, Laura, and John Marston, Bill and Michael Lloyd, Logan and Ethan Marston; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and on Monday, from noon until 1 p.m., at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Ron Wolfe and Rev. James Danielson will officiate. Burial will be in the Iron Mountain cemetery Park. A memorial will be established at the Immanuel Baptist Church in his memory.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Gladys Sorenson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Gladys Sorenson, 79, of 410 Vulcan St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born July 9, 1923, in Escanaba, daughter of the late George and Frances (Maynard) Quick. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She married Fredrick Sorenson on Sept. 24, 1942, in Iron Mountain and he preceded her in death in 1971. Gladys worked at Foley-Martens in Kingsford for many years and had many titles as an employee. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family, spending time with grandchildren, traveling and trips to the casino.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Fred and Jon Sorenson; a daughter, Ann Dobrient; two brothers, Robert and James Quick; and a sister, Annette Perry.
Gladys is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Sorenson of Iron Mountain; a son-in-law, Russ Dobrient of Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren, Patrick (Mary) Sorenson of Kingsford, Jaime (Jerry) Trumbley of Iron Mountain, Jennifer (James) Fox of Indianapolis, Ind., Julie (Andy) Harrell of Norway, Jon Sorenson and James Sorenson, both of Iron Mountain, Bruce Dobrient of Milwaukee, Tammy (Jake) Kainz of Milwaukee, Larry Dobrient of Milwaukee, and Lisa Sorenson and Michael Sorenson, both of New Mexico; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Pete (Joyce) Quick of Milwaukee and George (Caroline) Quick of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Louise Aronson of Iron Mountain and Betty Smokevitch of Kingsford; and a very special friend, Calvin Mendini.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be held today at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Raymond Campbell
IRON MOUNTAIN - Raymond E. Campbell, 68, of 317 West B St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his home.
Raymond was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Raymond and Edith (Cuggino) Campbell. He married the former Marcella Klahn on June 30, 1966, in Iron Mountain. Raymond was involved in Boy Scouts for 10 years and was an assistant scout leader for the handicapped troop.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Campbell and a sister, Doris Latondress.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; two sons, Christopher (Kathy) Campbell of Ishpeming and Timothy (Beverly) Campbell of Iron Mountain; two brothers, Jerry (Ida) Campbell of Escanaba and Jack (Linda) Kunick of Texas; two sisters, Kathryn Cherette of Negaunee and Shirley (Donald) Davis of Homestead, Wis.; six grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Campbell, Amanda Harper, and Aleasha, Christine and Marvin III Jarvey.
Private family visitation and funeral services are being held. Rev. Keith Walls will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Richard Kleinschmidt
IRON MOUNTAIN - Richard W. Kleinschmidt, 78, of 303 East A St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at his home.
Richard was born April 19, 1924, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Herman and Anna (Hoffman) Kleinschmidt. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947. Richard worked as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain and between his military service during World War II and employment at the VA Hospital, gave 35 years of service to our country. He married Beverly Sorenson on Nov. 22, 1947, in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1988. Richard was a member of the Balsam Street Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Richard was very proud of the fact that he was able to attend two of the greatest games in Packer history, the Ice Bowl and the 1997 Super Bowl victory. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
In addition to his wife, Richard was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by a son, Jeff (Cindy) Kleinschmidt of Marquette; a daughter, Jodi (Jaime) Goulette of Iron Mountain; a brother, Alfred (Blanche) Kleinschmidt of Pontiac, lower Michigan; a sister, Marion VanGilder of Sun Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren, Justin, Brooke and Kimberly Kleinschmidt, Tara, Amber and Ashley Goulette; a great-grandson, Gavin Goulette, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2002 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Balsam Street Christian Church in Kingsford. Pastor Joe Stapleton will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The pallbearers will be Roger and Kevin Frey, Ben Olsen, Justin and Brooke Kleinschmidt and Amber Goulette.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Marie Bluem
IRON MOUNTAIN - Marie White Bluem, 104, of Iron Mountain died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at the Freeman Convalescent Home in Kingsford.
She was born Nov. 28, 1898, in the village of Iron Mountain, the third daughter of William and Josephine (Therien) White. During her childhood years the family lived on West Ludington. As a child, Marie always wanted to teach. After graduation from Iron Mountain High School in 1917, she worked at the Carnegie Public Library to earn money for college and found a job teaching 20 students in a one-room country school located between Norway and Niagara. She then taught in Sagola, Ironwood and Iron Mountain. In 1928, she married Thomas Bluem in the Cathedral in St. Paul, Minn. Tom Bluem did landscaping for many places in Iron Mountain, including the Veterans Administration Hospital and other public buildings.
Marie devoted herself to homemaking and keeping the books for the expanding landscaping business. She was active in the community. She returned to teaching in 1942 and went back to school herself, receiving her bachelor's degree in 1953 from Northern Michigan College. Marie loved teaching, and after retiring in 1964, she tutored and substituted in the schools for several years. She was also active in St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, Daughter of Isabella, AAUW, Women's Club and the Duplicate Bridge Club. Marie lived on Crystal Lake from 1928 to 1996.
In her later years she spent her time with her grandchildren and friends, playing cards, cooking lovely meals and warming the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed.
Marie is survived by a daughter, Mary Kay (Eugene) DeGayner of West Bend, Wis.; her four grandchildren, Eugene III (Bethanie) of Petersburg, Alaska, Thomas (Vicki) of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Marie Kuker (Steven) of Mahtomedi, Minn., and Anne Cadham (Mark) of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and 10 great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph White, and two sisters, Pearl and Irene White.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
