James LaFreniere
NORWAY - James E. LaFreniere, 71, of Norway died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his home.
Jim was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Norway, son of Earl and Ethel (Edgren) LaFreniere. He was a 1949 graduate of Norway High School. After two years of schooling with General Motors Technical Institute, he began his working career as a mechanic and body man at LaFreniere Motor Co. in Norway. He operated that business for many years until his retirement. Jim was an avid Notre Dame football fan.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard 'Dick' LaFreniere.
He is survived by two sons, Edward (Marty) LaFreniere of Vulcan and Larry LaFreniere of Menominee; two daughters, Linda and Nancy LaFreniere, both of Norway; two brothers, William LaFreniere of Vulcan and John LaFreniere of Kingsford; two sisters, Lois (Kenneth) Benzie of Hamilton Lakes and Carol Brown of Murietta, Calif.; two grandchildren, Eric LaFreniere of Norway and Lori (Lonnie) Kregelka of Seffner, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Fr. William Callari will officiate. Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery. A memorial will be established in his memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Max Forstrom
IRON MOUNTAIN - Max A. Forstrom, 84, of 611 West C St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Max was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Cornell, (Delta County), son of the late Jakob and Emelia (Mattson) Forstrom. He had been a resident of this area his entire life and was a graduate of Quinnesec High School class of 1936. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Max married the former Olive (Hinkley) Tortelli on Nov. 6, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 23, 1997. He worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad until his retirement in 1978. Max was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Milwaukee Road Railroad Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Max was also preceded in death by four brothers, Alex, Harvey, Gunnar and Harry Forstrom.
He is survived by two stepsons, Gary (Bonnie) Tortelli of Appleton, Wis., and Dale (Marcia) Tortelli of Appleton; a brother, Paul (Phyllis) Forstrom of Quinnesec; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
A memorial will be established in his memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Frank Bitters
IRON MOUNTAIN - Frank J. Bitters, 77, of 108 West E St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at the Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
He was born April 7, 1926, in Iron Mountain. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Frank had worked for the city of Iron Mountain for many years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, in July of 1984. He was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and was an usher at the church.
Frank is survived by a sister, Harriet Bitters of Norway.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Stanley Cousineau
HARDWOOD - Stanley J. Cousineau, 44, of Hardwood died Monday, April 14, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford following a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
He was born July 14, 1958, in Norway, son of Melvin and Lorraine (LaMarche) Cousineau. He was a lifelong resident of Hardwood and graduated from North Dickinson High School in 1977. Stan married Gretchen Nelson on March 12, 1983, in Foster City.
He worked on the family farm until he was no longer able to due to his illness. Stan was a member of the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. As a youth, he was very active in the 4-H, and showed beef cattle at the county and state fair. He enjoyed hunting and going to camp.
Stan is survived by his wife, Gretchen; three children, Madeline, Paul and Thomas; his parents, Melvin and Lorraine Cousineau of Hardwood; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Janet Nelson of Hardwood; a sister, Ann (Joe) Gasparick of Kingsford; three brothers, Jeff (Amy) Cousineau of Hardwood, Tony Cousineau of Foster City and Andy Cousineau of Midland, lower Michigan, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Nelson, Gus Murray, John Benzie, Pat Ferguson, Curtis Dixon, Mike Juneau and Mike Timmer.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Elaine Goffinet
IRON MOUNTAIN - Elaine E. Goffinet, 85, of 614 Beech St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Florence, daughter of the late John E. and Anna (St. Onge) Goffinet. She moved to Kingsford at a young age and was a graduate of Kingsford High School Class of 1936. Elaine worked as several local businesses, including W.B. Thompson Co. She moved to Chicago in 1958 and was employed as an office clerk for Zenith Radio until her retirement in 1971. In September 1971, she moved to Iron Mountain. She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosanna (Sheldon) Johnson and Nathalie Goffinet.
She is survived by her cousins, Ronald St. Onge of Stamford, Conn., Donald St. Onge of Stuart, Fla., Joyce Gartland of Jupiter, Fla., Yvonne Metzger of San Rafael, Calif., Florence St. Jacques of Pawtucket, R.I. and Lois Seelen of Milwaukee.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Hendrickson, Tony Osojnicki, William Paupore, Frank Smith III, Richard St. Amour and Frank Turk.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Kingsford has been entrusted with arrangements.

Barbara Ruiz
IRON MOUNTAIN - Barbara L. Ruiz, 46, of 913 Wells St., Iron Mountain, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 17, 1957, in Crystal Falls, daughter of Loren W. Anderson and Anne Carol Bates. She was raised in Montana and had lived there for many years before returning to Iron Mountain in 1998. While in Montana, she had worked as a nurse's aide at the Western Manor in Billings, Mont. For the past 1 1/2 years Barb worked for TLC Services in Iron Mountain. She loved to read, crochet, and was an avid animal lover. Barb was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harlan and Ella Bates of Randville, and Gordon and Evelyn Anderson of Crystal Falls, and a niece, Tara Flamm.
She is survived by her mother, Anne Carol Bates of Iron Mountain; her father, Loren (Coco) Anderson of Elk City, Idaho; three daughters, Pharra Anderson of Lansing, Kimberly and Amy Ruiz, both at home; her significant other, Mark Edwards of Iron Mountain; two brothers, David and Thomas Anderson, both of Colorado; three sisters, Carol (Donald) Whalen of Wyoming, Donna Anderson of Idaho and Lorene Anderson of Montana; a sister-in-law, Sherri Anderson of Montana, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Don Whalen and Rev. Blaine Donaldson will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Richard Derman M.D.
PEMBINE, Wis. - Richard E. Derman, M.D., 62, of Pembine, Wis., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at his home.
He was born June 28, 1940, in Chicago, son of the late Arnold U. Derman, M.D., and Lillian (Margolin) Derman. He was raised in Chicago. Richard earned his bachelors degree from the University of Michigan and his M.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972 in Lemoore, Calif. Richard was an attending physician at Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals from 1975 to 1997 and a physician at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain from 1997 to 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Scully Derman; a daughter, Beth Derman Boeke (Joe) of Northbrook, Ill.; a son, Jeff Derman (Florien Bouwmeester) of New York; a grandson, Ben Boeke, and granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah Boeke.
Richard was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert M. Derman, M.D.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. A service of Remembrance will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret Church in Pembine, Wis. Burial will be in Pembine cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations accepted for American Cancer Society and Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Rescue Squad.

Brandi Guerrero
NIAGARA, Wis. - Brandi Jo Guerrero, 19, of 901 Polk St., Niagara, Wis., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Brandi was born May 5, 1983 in Land Stuhl, Germany, the daughter of Reynaldo and Kim (Fletcher) Guerrero. Brandi was a senior at Niagara High School. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Niagara. Brandi loved life and she looked forward to the time when she would see her sister at the resurrection as stated in John 5:28, 29 and live on a paradise earth under the conditions promised in Revelations 21:3, 4.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jaimeson, in 1997; her paternal grandparents, Domingo and Virginia Guerrero; and her maternal grandmother, Esther Mattson.
Brandi is survived by her parents, Reynaldo and Kim Guerrero of Niagara; her sister, Brooke (John LaValley) Guerrero of Norway and a nephew, Grant LaValley; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Kingsford. Ronn A. Gregor will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara cemetery. A memorial will be established in her memory.

Brandi Guerrero
NIAGARA, Wis. - Brandi Jo Guerrero, 19, of 901 Polk St., Niagara, Wis., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

John Gallino
NORWAY - John F. Gallino, 92, of 321 Section St., Norway, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
John was born Aug. 2, 1910, in Vulcan, son of the late Secondo and Rose (Piva) Gallino. He graduated from Vulcan High School in 1929. He attended Western State University in Kalamazoo and also Valparaiso College in Valparaiso, Ind., where he received a degree in communications. He married Evelyn Troyan on Sept. 2, 1935. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1996. John worked in Burlington, Iowa and Cedar Rapids, Iowa as an audio engineer for a television station. In 1975, he retired and returned to Norway.
He is survived by two brothers, Victor (Muriel) Gallino of Norway and Bernard (Mary Ellen) Gallino of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Jeanne (John) Menapace of Vulcan and Frances (Wesley) Gray of Norway; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Angeline Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
