Kathleen Masty
VULCAN - Kathleen M. Masty, 78, of 147 Central Blvd, Vulcan, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug 7, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathleen was born on Jan 26, 1925, in Norway, daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Grogan) Girard. She graduated from Vulcan High School in 1943. Kathleen studied at Wayne State University and Northern Michigan University and graduated from Detroit Harper Hospital School of Nursing. She married
Albert Masty on Aug 10, 1946 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan.
Kathleen began her professional career as a school nurse at Miami of Ohio University while her husband completed his education. The couple spent two years in Chicago before returning to the Norway-Vulcan area.
In 1951, Kathleen became one of the original members of the Iron Mountain Veterans Administration Medical Center nursing staff. Part of her time at the VA Hospital was spent as head nurse of the 4 West Ward. After working for 10 years, she 'retired' to raise a family. She resumed her nursing career in 1963. Kathleen spent 21 years as director of Anderson Memorial Hospital in Norway. She retired in 1986, leaving her position as vice president of operations at Anderson Memorial Hospital after two decades of service to the Dickinson County Hospitals.
Her philosophy of health care throughout her career was 'to give the very best possible care to her patients.' Her success was measured in the esteem, respect, and affection in which she was held by her colleagues, co-workers, and most of all, her patients.
She was a member of St. Barbara's Church in Vulcan and Our Savior's Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Fla. She and her husband, Al, were very active in both parishes, serving as Eucharistic ministers, lector, and ministering to shut-ins. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary, the Rosary Cenacle, the Daughters of Isabella and the Holy Spirit Association. She was an active hospice nurse for many years.
Kathleen was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Lee Cook, in 1999.
Kathleen is survived by Albert, her loving husband of 57 years; a daughter, Micki (Peter) Bilski of Spring Lake, lower Michigan; two sons, Tim (Terry) Masty of Atlanta, Ga. and Mark (Jonelle) Masty of Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Adeline (Don) St. Arnauld of Newberry; eight grandchildren, Shannyn (Joseph) Caldwell, Ryan (Shannon) Cook, Matt (Amy) Bilski, Christi (Jon) Brule, Andy Bilski, Jonathan James Masty, Lauren Masty, and Rachel Masty; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Maxwell, and Liam; numerous nieces and nephews; an beloved family friends, Marge Johnson and Mary Beth Hodapp.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, Aug 11 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug 11 at the St. Barbara's Catholic Church. Fr. William Callari, Fr. Mark McQuesten, and Fr. Joseph Gouin will con-celebrate the memorial Mass.
Interment will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
Memorials may be made to: The Carmelite Sisters, Holy Spirit School in Norway, or to St. Barbara's Restoration Fund.

Eric Podgornik
KINGSFORD - Eric J. Podgornik, 27, of 813 Cass Ave., Kingsford, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Eric was born June 25, 1976, in Iron Mountain, son of Joseph and Faye (Partanen) Podgornik. Eric worked for the past year at the Pine Grove Country Club. He loved participating in the bowling tournaments that were sponsored by MJ Electric and also the Special Olympic basketball tournaments. He enjoyed working in the shop at Trico Opportunities and in the kitchen at Woodland Elementary School. Eric was very close to his entire family. He was always a good natured person and everyone who came into contact with him enjoyed his company.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Partanen and Stephen and Lois Podgornik.
Eric is survived by his parents, Joseph and Faye Podgornik; his grandmother, Gladys Partanen of Kingsford; his brother, Scott Podgornik of Kingsford; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery. A memorial will be established in his memory.

Leona Bouche'
KINGSFORD - Leona E. Bouche', 94, of 1025 Woodward Ave., Kingsford, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born on March 23, 1909, daughter of the late Legore 'Louis' and Eda (Gagnon) Bouche. Leona was a resident of the area her entire life. She worked at Kresge's store in Iron Mountain in the donut department for many years until retiring in 1961. She was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a former member of the Daughters of Isabella.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Edward, and Neil Bouche and three sisters, Elsie Bassett, Marie Cerini, and Harriet Mynning.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Eric DeGrave
KINGSFORD - Eric M. De Grave, 21, of Appleton, Wis., formerly of Kingsford, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in Appleton.
He was born Oct 18, 1981, in Iron Mountain. Eric was a tender hearted, soft spoken person that will be forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his father, Dennis (Kathy) DeGrave of Florence, Wis.; his mother, Roxanne Doda of Kingsford; his paternal grandmother, Betty DeGrave of Florence; maternal grandmother, Connie Doda of Spread Eagle, Wis.; brothers, Travis DeGrave of Kingsford, and Adam Francis of Kingsford; sisters, Tonya DeGrave of Kingsford and Tika DeGrave of Florence, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Community Bible Chapel in Quinnesec. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Rev. Lonnie Wilson will officiate. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his memory.
Mary Waldbillig
NORWAY - Mary Louise Waldbillig, 49, of Norway, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1953, the daughter of Madeline (Roggeman) Menard and the late Phil Menard. Mary was a nurse, but to her friends, family and patients, she was an angel. Mary loved traveling, and caring for others, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was extremely proud of her children and was looking forward to seeing the world after retirement. To all those who she served, whether in role as county health nurse, a patient in a hospital, or others whose lives she touched, she was a true angel of mercy. Many patients and families in Norway and Vulcan will remember her loving touch as she cared for them and their loved ones in their time of illness. The whole community was her family, but she was most treasured by her husband, Carl, with whom she did everything and her three children, Cory, Kevin and Kristen. She and Carl were proud members of the Norway Booster Club where they served for many years, and St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. Despite her passing, she will be held in the loving arms of her family and friends forever.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Carl; three children, Cory Waldbillig (Jill Iverson) of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Kevin Waldbillig of Norway and Kristen Waldbillig of Norway; her mother, Madeline Menard of Norway; a brother, Paul (Lisa) Menard of Vulcan; and a sister, Pauline (David) Rittenhouse of Kingsford.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Fr. William Callari will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Ruth Peters
KINGSFORD - Ruth Arlene Peters, 83, of Kingsford, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Johnson) Niemi. She had been a lifelong resident of the area. Ruth graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1937 and spent one year at the Dundon's School of Business. She married
Alfred Peters at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain in 1940. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2002. Ruth was a former member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and the EMBA. She played darts for many years, enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and an excellent seamstress.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Jr.; a son-in-law, Bob Fabry; a grandson, Gary; two brothers; and two sisters.
Ruth is survived by her children, Bob (Jennifer) Peters of Kingsford, Mary Fabry of Portage, Wis., Leonard (Annette) Peters of East Moline, Ill. and Cindy (Calvin) Baird of Vulcan; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a niece and a nephew.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Marjorie Chandler
KINGSFORD - Marjorie M. Chandler, 81, of Lakeway, Texas, formerly of East Sagola Ave. in Kingsford, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at South Austin Hospital in Austin, Texas.
She was born June 13, 1922, in Altoona, Pa., daughter of the late Howard and Miriam (Fair) Mills. She married
John 'Chick' Chandler on June 2, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1997. Marjorie retired after 40 years with the Chrysler Corp. in Detroit. She liked to tell people she was one of the 'Rosie the Riveters' for Chrysler. Marjorie loved animals.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Chandler of Lakeway, Texas; a sister, Eunice Hosterman of Boston, Mass.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Spangler of Iron Mountain, Maurice (Marceline) Chandler of Cooks, Doris Kroll of Cooks, William Chandler of Iron Mountain, Jean (Al) Antonini of Phoenix, Ariz. and Barbara Chandler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Raymond Fuller
IRON MOUNTAIN - Raymond R. Fuller, 76, of Oconto Falls, Wis., formerly of Iron Mountain, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at his home in Oconto Falls.
Raymond was born March 5, 1927, in Iron Mountain. He was the son of the late Robert and Astrid (Lundberg) Fuller. He was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School and attended Northern Michigan University and Spencer College. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Raymond married
the former Betty A. Harrison on April 27, 1957, and she preceded him in death on April 17, 1999. Ray was self-employed and after working hard for many years, retired at an early age to the home he built in Oconto Falls. He loved fishing, the outdoors and enjoyed walking the dog, watching baseball, gardening and especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 664 in Clintonville, Wis.
He is survived by his son, Early (Karen) Fuller of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Margaret (James) Mallory of Osprey, Fla.; two grandchildren, Faith and Whitney Fuller; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at noon at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Emmel will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Alice Picucci
IRON MOUNTAIN - Alice Marie Picucci, 83, of 919 E. Stanton St., Iron Mountain died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on May 9, 1920, daughter of the late Carlo and Angeline (Quagliotti) Ballario. Alice was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, class of 1938. Alice married
Attilio 'T' Picucci on Dec. 6, 1941 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, where she was a lifelong member. She was a former member of Pine Grove Country Club and the Chippewa Club. She loved flowers, gardening, and knitting. Her grandchildren were the focus of her life.
Alice was preceded in death by a sister, Madelyne Anderson.
Alice is survived by her husband of 61 years, Attilio 'T' Picucci; a son, Jerry (Marci) Picucci of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Shari Picucci of Iron Mountain, Anthony Picucci of Kingsford, Mark (Katie) Picucci of Okemos, lower Michigan and Paul Picucci of Iron Mountain; a brother, Louis Ballario of Iron Mountain; a sister, Lucille (Mel) Groepel of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Leonard 'Swede' Anderson of Iron Mountain.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Anthony, Mark, and Paul Picucci, Ken White, Mike Youngberg and Bert Moore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Picucci and Leonard 'Swede' Anderson.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Carmelite Sisters.
