Douglas Bennett
KINGSFORD - Douglas P. Bennett, 77, of 679 S. Westwood, Kingsford, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Doug was born Jan. 26, 1926 in Iron Mountain, the son of Reuben and Frances (Powell) Bennett. He was a 1944 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Doug married the former Helen Olson on Feb. 8, 1947 in Milwaukee. He was in the furniture business his entire life including owning his own business and working for several local furniture stores. For the past 17 years he had served as the custodian of the First United Presbyterian Church. Doug was a member of First United Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a former Lions Club member and sang in the Lions Roar. He served for some time as treasurer for the Waves swim team. Doug enjoyed hunting, going to camp, reading and was a avid Detroit Lions football fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; five sons, Richard (Barbara) Bennett of Iron Mountain, James Bennett of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Paul (Bobbi) Bennett of Iron Mountain, Dan 'Reuben' Bennett of Kingsford and David Bennett of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Mary (Robert) Semler of Kingsford and Frances (Michael) Monette of Kingsford; a sister, Fay (Donald) Stevenson of Monee, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, July 28, at the First United Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will be at noon at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the local funeral arrangements.

Richard Cerasoli
IRON MOUNTAIN - Richard 'Dick' Cerasoli, 60, of W9462 K.O. Swanson Drive, Breitung Township, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1943, in Iron Mountain, son of Alfred 'Fritz' and Nora (McMahon) Cerasoli. He was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1961. Dick served two years in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. On May 29, 1965, he married Charlene DeMeuse at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. While in high school, Dick began working for People's Grocery Store and continued working there after he returned from the service. He became an owner and partner with Herman and Dave Munday from 1976 to 1986. Dick was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, where he was an eucharistic minister. He also taught CCD classes. He was a member of the Elks, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), Wildlife Unlimited and Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Sheri; three children, Lisa Cerasoli of Los Angeles, Calif., Lora Cerasoli of Mesa, Ariz., and Rick Cerasoli of Detroit; his parents, Fritz and Nora Cerasoli of Iron Mountain; a brother, Ron (Pat) Cerasoli of Kingsford; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marlene (Bill) Ozzello of Iron Mountain, Frank (Candy) DeMeuse of New River, Ariz., and Wayne (Mae) DeMeuse of Washington, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Dave Fornetti, Wayne McMahon, James Christ, Jon Mott, Reno Romagnoli and Bryan Gannon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Nancy Theisen
IRON MOUNTAIN - Nancy L. Theisen, 69, of Iron Mountain died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the University Hospital in Madison.
Nancy was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Elmer and Kathleen (Schultz) Stohl. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1951 and the Misercordia Hospital School of Nursing in 1954, where she was class president. She married Wayne Theisen on July 31, 1954, in Iron Mountain. Nancy worked at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse for 41 years. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church and belonged to the Lydia Circle, and the Quilt Cutters (Holy Comforters). She also taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Michigan Nurses Association and was very active on the negotiating team. She also served on the DCMH RN staff council and was an officer in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 44 in Iron Mountain. Nancy received the gift of life, a liver transplant, on Dec. 17, 1998, in Madison. She belonged to the local Organ Transplant Group.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, golfing, tending to her flowers and watching Wayne do the outside chores. She was everyone's angel and very best friend.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Wayne; four children, Torvin (Pam) Theisen of Ontonagon, Steve Theisen of Iron Mountain, Kathy (Kevin) McCrary of Green Bay, Wis., and Daniel (Darlene) Theisen of Appleton, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Luke and Katee Theisen, Jesse Theisen, Ryan and Rachael McCrary, and Zach and Jacob Theisen; four sisters-in-law, Betty Brocker, Marge Nelson, Orice (Harlan) Walters and Ruth Hirn, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Dennis Theisen, Rodney Theisen, Ricky Nelson, Roy Nelson, Bruce Nelson, Nick Nelson, Tim Walters and Lennie Walters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

Joseph Archer
NIAGARA, Wis. - Joseph E. Archer, 95, of Columbus, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara.
He is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Cliff) Mauck of Niagara and Shirley Swetnam of Westerville, Ohio; a brother, George Archer of Murray City, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Craig (Joyce) Mauck, Kelly Mauck and Todd Swetnam.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Shaw-David Funeral Home in Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.

Mervin Specht, M.D.
IRON MOUNTAIN - On Sunday, July 13, 2003, Mervin John Specht, M.D., went to be with his Savior after a short bout with cancer.
Merv was born Dec. 9, 1942, and was raised in Duluth, Minn. He played hockey throughout his youth and was part of the PeeWee team that won the national championship in Lake Placid, N.Y., in 1957. He was active in scouting (received his Eagle Scout and God and Country Awards), and served as president of the student council at East High School in Duluth and president of the freshman class at the University Minnesota-Duluth. Merv grew up in Hunter's Park, where he married his prom date, Sue Carlson. They were married for 41 years.
The main focus of his life was his love for God. Merv dearly loved his wife, his daughters, Penny and Sally, and his four grandchildren.
Merv was fortunate to be awarded scholarships through premed at UM-D, and Medical School at the University of Iowa School of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. He interned at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. He was given the residency of his choice in diagnostic radiology and the University of Michigan. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a major, and was stationed at Beale AFB in California during the Vietnam War.
He was a radiologist in Marquette for three years and in Iron Mountain for 26 years. He was privileged to have worked with his esteemed colleagues at Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS). He served as chief of staff, chairman of the department of radiology, chairman of the ethics committee and chairman of medical records of DCHS.
Merv was a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Society, American Medical Association, American College of Radiology and many other professional organizations. It has been announced that the new imaging center at DCHS will be named in his honor.
He was proud of his church family at Maranatha Assembly of God, where he was a former deacon and trustee.
Merv was blessed with a very close relationship with his sister, Marilyn, and Sue's brothers, Steve and Dave (and their families). Highlights of every year were the times when the whole family would gather together. He also loved boating, canoeing, reading and chasing his grandchildren around.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin and Helvi Specht, and a brother, Marty.
Merv is survived by his wife, Susan Carlson Specht of Iron Mountain; his daughters, Penny Specht Olson of Kingsford and Sally Specht (James, Esq.) Browning, Esq. of St. Louis; his grandchildren, Matthew John Olson, Christie Marie Olson, Ashley Emma Browning, and Zoe Madeline Browning; his sister, Marilyn Specht (Dr. Jim) Thomas of Santa Barbara, Calif.; brothers-in-law, T. David (Lynn) Carlson of Duluth and Dr. Stephen (Patti) Carlson of Virginia Beach, Va., and nieces, Lauren Thomas of Boulder, Colo., Chloe Thomas of Santa Barbara, Maren Carlson of Arlington, Va., Kirsten Carlson (Chris) Furr of Charlotte, N.C., Beth Carlson of Duluth and Kelly Carlson of Duluth.
He and the family would like to give special thanks to his friend and physician Dr. Stephen Leonard, Mary Grable, R.N., Diane Smith, and Mary Morrison of Marquette General Hospital and Home Health.
Pallbearers are family members, Dr. Stephen Carlson, David Carlson, James Browning, John Olson, and Matt Olson, and fellow radiologist and friend, Dr. Dale Shampo.
Viewing will be at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The funeral to celebrate Merv's life will be held at the church Friday at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Marquette General Hospice Program, Dickinson County Hospital Memorial Fund or Maranatha Assembly of God Church Foreign Missions.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Raymond Owens
AURORA, Wis. - Raymond R. Owens, 51, of Aurora died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born April 2, 1952, in Chicago, and had lived in this area for the past 18 years. Ray worked as a deputy sheriff for the Florence County Sheriff's Department. He married the former Machelle Williams on Feb. 27, 2003. Ray was a gifted woodworker and loved creating things with wood. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Ray was a great storyteller. He was very much a people person. He loved children and had the patience of a saint. He also loved living on the river and spending time out on his boat.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Richard Owens.
He is survived by his wife, Machelle; his mother, Delores Owens of Elmhurst, Ill.; a son, Michael Owens of Crandon, Wis.; two daughters, Samantha Owens of Green Bay, Wis., and Stacey Owens of Chicago; a stepson, Tyler Austin at home; two stepdaughters, Nicole Austin and Alexa Austin, both at home; a brother, Glen (Nancy) Owens of Bloomingdale, Ill.; a grandson, Alexis Owens, and a niece and a nephew.
There will be a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

Meta Thompson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Meta S. Thompson, 94, of 1309 West C St., Iron Mountain, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Meta was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Norwalk, Wis., daughter of the late William and Bertha (Schamens) Baumbach. She attended school in Leon and Sparta, Wis. She married Clayton 'Tommy' Thompson in Sparta, Wis. on July 11, 1937, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1981. Meta and Tommy lived in Sparta, Madison, Richland Center and Sheboygan, Wis. They moved to Iron Mountain in the summer of 1954 when Tommy took over the management of the J.C. Penney store. Meta was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital League, the Pine Grove County Club for many years and the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with many friends, reading, and going out for breakfast with her special friend, Lou 'Scottie' Scott. She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant twin brother and sister; two brothers, Adolph and August Baumbach; and three sisters, Melita Jewell, Theresa Jenkins and Alvin Licht.
Meta leaves a daughter, Judy Johnson of Iron Mountain; two grandsons, Thomas (Lorrie) Droese of Appleton, Wis. and David Droese of Kingsford; seven great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Daniel, Joshua, Emily and Paul Droese of Kingsford and Victoria and Nicole Droese of Appleton, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Pauline Rupe will officiate. Burial will be at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.

Wayne Hollon
IRON MOUNTAIN - Wayne Hollon, 39, of Iron Mountain died Saturday, July 5, 2003, in Florence County as a result of a boating accident.
He was born March 22, 1964, in Chicago, son of the late Robert and Barbara (Holst) Hollon.
Wayne loved composing music, writing songs and poems, playing the keyboard and art.
He was well loved and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
Wayne is survived by two sons, Jeremy and Peter, both of Mississippi; his maternal grandparents, Betty (Leo) Holst of Lancaster, Calif.; two sisters, Michelle (Michael) Barone of Kingsford and Rebecca Flanagan of Burbank, Ill., and three brothers, Steven (Juanita) Hollon of Chicago, Mark (Lisa) Hollon of Clarksville, Ind., and Job Hollon of Burbank, Ill. He is further survived by special friends, Dean Varda, Ted Ward and Lar Ward, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

Joyce Dixon
FOSTER CITY - Joyce Kay Dixon, 68, of Foster City, MI, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at her home in Foster City.
She was born June 15, 1935 in Rockford, IL, daughter of the late Clifford and Melba (Edberg) Anderson. Joyce was a resident of this area for most of her life and graduated from North Dickinson High School. She married Russell Dixon on November 28, 1953 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. He preceded her in death in 1982. Joyce worked for several years as a custodian at the North Dickinson School System. She was a member of Mission Covenant Church.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Clayton (Marilyn) Dixon, Dale (Deborah) Dixon, and Curtis (Debbie) Dixon, all of Foster City, and David (Norma) Dixon of Hardwood; two sisters, Joanne Stenfors of Foster City and Marlene (Les) Ossewarde of Birch Run, MI; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Dixon-Wolfe (David), Laurie Beth Dixon, Kristin Dixon-Woodward (Travis), Jennifer Dixon, Douglas and Danita Dixon, Russell and Amanda Dixon, and Jody, Kimberly, and Jeffrey Dixon; and four great grandchildren. Joyce was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kay Ann Dixon.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2003 from 9:00 to 11:00am at the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am from the church. Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.
