Marjorie McCallum
IRON MOUNTAIN - Marjorie E. McCallum, 81, of 848 East C St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Homestead, Wis., daughter of the late Henry E. and Ruth (Swanson) Holtein. Marjorie was a 1939 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. She married her husband, Max on Dec. 23, 1944, in Iron Mountain. Marjorie loved collecting dolls. She enjoyed artwork, cooking and scrapbooking. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother who always had a smile for everyone. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry C. 'Hank' Holtein.
She is survived by her husband, Max; a son, Dan McCallum of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Pat (Terry) Trempe of Kingsford and Debbie (William) Knutson of Fence, Wis.; two brothers, Allyn (Janet) Holtein of Escanaba and Larry (Marilyn) Holtein of Green Bay, Wis.; three grandchildren, Scott Trempe and Steven Trempe, both of Kingsford and Michelle Cousineau of Iron Mountain; a great-grandson, Jacob Cousineau; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services were held. Rev. David Anderson officiated. Burial was in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with funeral arrangements.

Debra Bray
IRON MOUNTAIN - Debra L. Bray, 44, of 235 W. Grant St., Iron Mountain, died on May 16, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born May 30, 1958 in Pontiac, MI, daughter of Richard and Helen McKenzie. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1976 and married her husband David on January 21, 1977 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford. Debbie worked at Khoury's downtown corner store in High School and later at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She also worked for many years at Romagnoli's Restaurant and operated her own cleaning business. Debbie enjoyed traveling and loved the ocean.
She was preceded in death several years ago by a wonderful sister Tammy.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons, Ryan and Jason Bray, both of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Tori (Cory) Benson of Madison, WI; her parents, Richard and Helen McKenzie of Kingsford; a sister Cathy Cattell of Madison, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held with Fr. Daniel Zaloga officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
There is no safer place to be than in God's loving hands. My wife, our daughter, my sister, our mom is safe now!
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Charles Bruette
CHANNING - Charles W. 'Chum' Bruette, 72, of 820 Railroad, M-95 in Channing, died Friday, May, May 16, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Sagola, son of the late Warner and Esther (McGregor) Bruette. He was a lifelong resident of the Channing area and worked as a laborer for Local Union 1329 for many years.
Chum enjoyed hunting and fishing for all species for all seasons. He also enjoyed four-wheeling, snowmobiling and going to camp with friends. He was an excellent gardener and was thought to have about the best gardens in the Channing area. He was an avid Packer fan and Yankees fan and was the voice of the Channing Railroaders baseball team for many years. He was a member of Local 1329 for nearly 35 years.
Chum was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christopher Coonrod and Cole Bruette.
He is survived by his son, Charles 'Chum' II (Lisa) Bruette of Channing and a daughter, Kara Coonrod of Mansfield Township; a sister, Lorraine (Robert 'Susie') Dal Santo of Channing; eight grandchildren, Ean (Asha) Bruette, Michael, Danielle, Rebecca and Elizabeth Coonrod, and Emily, Matthew and Christina Bruette; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Joseph Konopacke
KINGSFORD - Joseph W. Konopacke, 75, of 825 Brookfield St., Kingsford, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Joe was born March 24, 1928, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Edmund and Stella (Beauparlant) Konopacke. He was a 1946 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Joe married the former Barbara Myefski on May 7, 1960, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He was employed for Western Electric (currently ATT) as an installer for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Pine Grove Country Club and the Kiwanis Ski Club. He loved sports and traveling. In addition to being an avid golfer, he was a great skier and enjoyed fishing. He spent all of his free time with his family. For the past six years, he and Barbara spent the winter in Mesa, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Mary (James) Michner of Okemos, lower Michigan, Michael (Lori) Konopacke of Owosso, lower Mich., and Mark (Victoria) Konopacke of Del Mar, Calif.; his brother, William (Joann) Konopacke of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Hannah and Gabriel Michner, Kaycee, Megan and Erin Konopacke and Jake Konopacke; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer parish prayers at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Donald 'Butch' Christianson, Robert Esveldt, Jamie Michner, Dan Pucci, John Pucci and Louis Pucci. Honorary pallbearer is Jerry Tuomela.

Doris Lusardi
NIAGARA, Wis. - Doris Ann Lusardi, 65, of Niagara, Wis., died on Mother's Day, May 11, 2003, at her home in Niagara.
She was born May 24, 1937, in Norway, daughter of the late Rueben and Ruth (Struebing) DeClark. Doris married Ivan Lusardi on Sept. 3, 1955, in Rockford, Ill. They lived in Milwaukee from 1956-1966, returning to the area in 1966. She enjoyed embroidering and vowel puzzles, the Nashville Grand Ole Opry and the Chicago Cubs.
Doris is survived by her husband, Ivan; three sons, Ivan (Donna) Lusardi Jr. of Zion, Ill., Michael (Sandra) Lusardi of Iron Mountain and Timothy (Annette) Lusardi of Kingsford; two daughters, Debra (Danny) Zuern of Dunbar, Wis. and Diane Gendron (Robert) Grisolono of Norway; two brothers, Rueben Peter (Marcia) DeClark of Niagara Township and Ernest (Wendy) DeClark of White Lake, Wis.; four sisters, Carol (Jim) Bjorkman of Aurora, Wis., Gail Miller of Indiana, Elizabeth (Robert) Spade of Aurora, Wis. and Patricia (Norbert) Zuern of Niagara Township; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. John Voelker will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Sherman Branam
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Sherman R. Branam, 75, of Mishicot, Wis., formerly of Moon Lake, Breitung Township, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, Wis.
He was born June 5, 1927, in Kingsford, son of the late Judson and Luella (Ross) Branam. He was a lifelong resident of the area and had spent the last two years with his son and daughter-in-law in Mishicot, Wis. Sherman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He worked for Lake Shore Inc. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1990. Being an avid outdoorsman his entire life, his great passion was fishing for brook trout.
He is survived by two sons, Tim (Valerie) Branam of Mishicot, Wis. and Daniel (Brenda) Branam of Escanaba; three daughters, Laura (Dennis) Cook of Green Bay, Wis., Cindy (Mike) Woller of Spread Eagle, Wis. and Mary (David) Brash of Randville; five brothers, Judson Branam of Fenton, lower Michigan, Robert Branam of Hendersonville, N.C., Ford Branam of Kipling, Sheldon (Joyce) Branam of Lake George, lower Michigan and Vincent Branam of Davenport, Iowa; three sisters, Alyson Bilski of Kingsford, Ann Case of Hendersonville, N.C. and Mary (Ron) Hahn of Lakeview, lower Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Chris, Janessa, Andrew and Caitlyn Branam, Dale, Amanda and Melinda Cook, Shane, Brian and Jill Branam, Betsy and David Woller and Brandon Branam; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Judson Tolman Branam and two brothers, Franklin and David Branam.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Dr. Leola Garriott
KINGSFORD - Dr. Leola Mae (Schmidt) Garriott, 81, of Kingsford, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born March 10, 1922, in Hortonville, Wis., daughter of the late Arthur R. and Alma (Diestler) Schmidt. Leola graduated from Hortonville High School as the valedictorian of her class in 1940. She then graduated from the Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Ind., where she obtained her doctor of chiropractic degree. She married George A. Garriott on Sept. 29, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1999. The couple moved from Hortonville to Sun Lakes, Ariz. in 1984 and then moved from Arizona to Kingsford in 1996. Leola was a chiropractor in Hortonville for 35 years. She was also a church organist for more than 50 years, serving congregations in Hortonville, Appleton, Dale, and New London in Wisconsin and Sun Lakes, Ariz. Leola was past president of Bethlehem Lutheran Ladies Aid in Hortonville, the Hortonville Women's Club, Appleton Chapter of Valparasio Guild, Women of First English Lutheran Church and former secretary of First English Church in Appleton, card ministry of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, where she was currently a member.
She is survived by a daughter, Grace (Mark) Flunker and their children, Ryan and Kari of Florence, Wis.; three sons, Dr. Gary Garriott (Valerie Lamont) and their children, Omar, Khalil, Kristofer and Ashton of Panama City, Panama, Gale (Ann) Garriott and their children, Alexander and Andrew of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Grant (Kathleen) Garriott of Minnetonka, Minn.; a sister, Eleanore (Victor) Schmit and niece, Corryn Schulz of Hortonville, Wis.; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Iva Garriott of Joplin, Mo., Hagar (Marie) Garriott of Scottsburg, Ind., Eileene Garriott of Salem, Ind., and Elbert (Myrtle) Strain of Lafayette, Inc.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Garriott and a niece, Sandra June Schmit.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville, Wis. Pastor Stephen Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in the Hortonville Union cemetery in Hortonville.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain has been entrusted with local arrangements.

Elsie Granquist
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Elsie L. Granquist, 79, of Breitung Township died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Freeman Convalescent Home in Kingsford after a courageous 14 year battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Cordine) Covi. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1942.
Elsie married Carl Granquist on March 6, 1944, in Norway. She worked as a clerk for the Bomber Plant during World War II, the Cal Ship Yard in San Francisco, Calif., the Bracco Drug Store, Dickinson Hotel, Montgomery Wards Tire Department and Pine Mountain. She was in the Dart Ball Club at the Dickinson Hotel.
Elsie enjoyed drawing, gardening, flowers, writing poems and loved cats, dogs and squirrels.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Granquist of Breitung Township; three sons, Alan (Lois) Granquist of Iron Mountain, David Granquist of Iron Mountain and Terry Joe (Theresa) Granquist of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Mary Ann (John) Webb of Minneapolis; a brother, Arthur Covi of Green Bay, Wis.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Elsie was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Anna Covi.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Dagney Gustafson
FELCH - Dagney Gustafson, 87, formerly of Felch, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Metropolitan, daughter of the late Erick and Ida (Nylund) Anderson. Dagney married Rudolph Gustafson on Feb. 15, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1989. She had worked for the Headstart Program and for Hancock Wood Products before retiring. Dagney enjoyed handcrafts and knitting, along with gardening and sports.
She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn (Steve) Charlevoix of Foster City, Diane (Tom) Kenny of Hardwood, Rita (Dewey) Carlson of Foster City and Joanne (Allen) Shangle of Gaylord, lower Michigan; seven grandchildren, Lynn (Shad) Ackerman, Steve (Maureen) Charlevoix Jr., Amy (Dan) Steele, Rhonda (Craig) Mattson, Lee Ann Kenny, Cheri (Rob) Challancin and Dan Carlson; eight great-grandchildren, Ronald and Quenten Ackerman, Brittany and Elizabeth Charlevoix, Taylor and Lexi Steele, Alison Mattson and Alec Challancin; three sisters, Dorothy Gustafson of Illinois, Esther (Arvid) Backlund of Washington and Lynn (Albert) Backlund of California; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Saxon and Helen Gustafson, both of Kingsford, and many nieces and nephews.
Dagney was also preceded in death by a brother, Nestor Anderson, and four sisters, Jennie Timmer, Edith Johnson, Mildred Swanson and Elsie Hagman.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Pastor John Voelker will officiate. Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.
The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Joseph Ziolkowski
IRON MOUNTAIN - Joseph J. Ziolkowski, 79, of Sportsmens Club Road, Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center in Milwaukee.
He was born April 29, 1923, in Milwaukee, son of the late Joseph and Rose (Krohn) Ziolkowski. He had been a resident of this area since 1955. Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served from 1943 to 1946 in the European-African and Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He worked many years for Cummins Diesel and retired as the local branch manager. Joe married the former Evelyn (Albrecht) Houdeshell on Dec. 10, 1976. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers (UCT) and the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge 700. Joe loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was always a very upbeat and social person.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice (Hysell), in 1975, and a stepson, Richard Houdeshell.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Joseph Jr. and Jeff Ziolkowski of Loretto; a stepson, Neil Houdeshell of Englewood, Fla.; a daughter, Lynn Alston of Mauston, Wis.; a brother, Donald (Joan) Ziolkowski of Wausau, Wis.; a sister, Doris Jackson of Poynette, Wis.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
