Myrtle Freeberg
HOMESTEAD, Wis. - Myrtle Cecelia Freeberg, 91, formerly of Homestead, Wis. and recently of Green Bay, Wis., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay.
She was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Iron River and moved to Homestead, Wis. as a young child. She later married Evert Freeberg on Oct. 16, 1937, and they lived in Homestead. She had been living in the Green Bay, Wis. area for the past six years. Myrtle was a member of the Homestead Baptist Church and attended the Suamico Methodist Church while living in the Green Bay area. She taught Sunday school for 50 years at Homestead Baptist Church and was active in all aspects of the church. She was past president of the Florence County School Board, a 4-H leader for many years, served on the Florence County Aging Board for about 15 years, and helped start an Alzheimer Support Group in the Iron Mountain area.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Evert Freeberg and three brothers, Albert, John and Carl Gremore.
She is survived by two daughters; Charlotte (Frank) Meshigaud of Green Bay and Betty Freeberg of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, John Meshigaud of Waupaca, Wis. and Jill Meshigaud of Coleman, Wis.; three sisters, Jeanette (Frank) Yadro of Homestead, Berdine (Kenneth) Olson of Homestead and Marcia (Howard) LePine of Florence, Wis.; many nieces, nephews and many others who adopted her as their 'Grandma'.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Homestead Baptist Church in Homestead, Wis. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Bradley Moore will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Deborah Collier
KINGSFORD - Deborah S. Collier, 21, of 433 Sterling St., Kingsford, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident. Debbie was born Jan. 22, 1982, in Lansing. She was a 2000 graduate of North Dickinson High School and was attending Bay De Noc Community College. She was employed at the Sturgeon Millwork and Lumber Co. Debbie attended Felch Mountain Bible Chapel. She enjoyed hunting, doing ceramics, home decorating, and spending time at camp.
She is survived by her father, James Jr. (Paula) Collier of Felch; her mother, DeLonna Paulins of Nashville, lower Michigan; her fiance', Jeremy Eastling of Kingsford; her paternal grandparents, James and Juanita Collier of Williamston, lower Michigan; her maternal grandmother, Bethel Morris of Vermontville, lower Michigan; her step-grandparents, Ronnie and Janet Edwards of Crystal Falls; four brothers, James Collier III of Vermontville, Nicholas Gubry of Williamston, and Jeffrey and Ronnie Collier, both of Felch; four sister, Jennifer Collier of Nashville, Jamie Gubry of Williamston, Patricia Collier of Kingsford and Jacquelen Collier of Felch; her future in-laws, Ted and Meg Eastling of Midland, lower Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. David Winkowitsch will officiate. A memorial will be established in her memory.

Jean Carlson
KINGSFORD - Jean Rosemary Carlson, 83, of Kingsford, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain with her daughters by her side.
She was born April 2, 1920, in Laurium, daughter of the late Chester and Martha (Brown) Prideaux. Jean was a graduate of Calumet High School and later graduated from Adrian College. She married Victor E. Carlson on July 8, 1944, and they lived in Channing until 1953. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1980. At that time, Jean returned to her previous job in Chicago working as an editorial assistant for Commerce Clearing House Inc. She enjoyed her work so much, she put off retirement until the age of 71.
Jean was preceded in death by son, Phil, a son-in-law, Frank Crosson, and a grandson, Joe Crosson.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Jean Crosson of Kingsford and Diane (Keith) MacFadyen of Channing; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Dennise) Crosson of Kingsford, John Crosson of Chicago, Lisa (Henry) McRoberts of Kingsford, William (Mary) MacFadyen of Chicago, Brian (Nicole) MacFadyen of Lufkin, Texas, Sylvia (Joseph) Crum of Bristol, Va. and Michael Carlson of Grayslake, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Alexander, Andrew, Austin, Brittany, Joey, Liam, Fiona, Sadie Diane, Garreth, Joseph, Madeline, Kyle, and Dalani.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Channing cemetery. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

June E. Kullinger
MILWAUKEE, WIS. - June Estelle Kullinger, 78, of Milwaukee, Wis, . formerly of Quinnesec, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Columbia St. Mary's Hospice in Milwaukee, Wis.
She was born June 1, 1925, in Quinnesec, the youngest of six children, and the daughter of the late Henry and Marie (Craig) LeMieux. June graduated from Quinnesec High School. She married Otto Kullinger on June 16, 1945, in Loretto. He preceded her in death in April 1992. She moved to Milwaukee in 1952 and has been there since. June was first and foremost a mother and homemaker. She also worked as a waitress at Gimbels' Department Store in Milwaukee for more than 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, shopping, watching old movies, but most of all being with her family, especially all the grandchildren.
June was proud of the fact that her grandfather was a Civil War veteran and that he used to lead the annual 4th of July parade in Iron Mountain. He was also a well-known architect in the U.P., and built many of the commercial and residential buildings in Iron Mountain, Quinnesec, and Green Bay. She grew up in Quinnesec in a house designed by her grandfather LeMieux, which was next door to her cousins and good friends, the Wonders family. June was especially close with Lucy (Wonders) Doney of Iron Mountain, and they remained good friends for a lifetime. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Congregation in Milwaukee located on 61st and Oklahoma Ave.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Clyde and Bobby, and two sisters, Clara and Mae.
June is survived by two sons, Mathew (Wendy) Kullinger of Ft. Collins, Colo. and David Kullinger of East Troy, Wis. ; three daughters, Suzanne (Terry) Crowe of New York City, NY; Marsha (Dennis) Kuhnke of Shorewood, Wis., and Mary (Steve) Day of New Berlin, Wis.; grandchildren, T.J. Crowe, Amanda Kuhnke, Jessica, Zach (Anna) Kullinger, Jared, Brad, and Katie Day, Nicolas and Aaron Kulliner; a great-grandson, Sidney Kullinger; and a brother, David 'Billy' LeMieux of Quinnesec.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be on Monday at 10 a.m. at the American Martyr's Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Justin Meier
BEECHER, Wis. - Justin James Meier, 22, of Beecher, Wis., was called to heaven on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident.
Justin was born on Oct. 2, 1981, in Iron Mountain. He graduated from Kingsford High School in the year 2000. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and American Martyrs Catholic Church. He was employed in his father's siding business, Jim's Home Exteriors. Justin was very athletic, excelling in soccer and football in high school. He was a hard worker and enjoyed being a third generation siding applicator. He took a lot of pride in his work. He also enjoyed playing music with 'The Band'.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reinhart and Helen Meier; his grandmother, Violet Jakups; his grandfather, Ernest Granquist and his uncle, Gary Jakups.
Justin leaves the greatest love of his life, his son, Austin Davis Meier, born Feb. 26, 2001. He is also survived by his father, James (Sandy) Meier of Iron Mountain; his mother, Dawn (Al) Meiner of Kingsford; one brother, Christopher Campbell; his grandfather, Edward Jakups; his grandmother, Jeanette Granquist; his grandparents, Ralph and Marge Meiner; six aunts, Nancy (Jerry) Johnson, Arlene (Jim) Jewell, Patricia Lidwin, Mary (Fred) Michaud, Sheila Jakups and Jean Meiner; seven uncles, David (Barb) Meier, Butch (June) Meier, Richard (Debra) Granquist, Steve (Cindy) Meiner, Mike (Karen) Meiner, Tom (Julie) Meiner, and Jim (Nancy) Meiner; cousins, Paul and Will Lidwin, Becky and Lynda Vento, Heather Shafer, Brian Strauss, Angela Whitehead, Dean, Dave and Nikki Meier, Ronnie and Mary Meier, Sherri Barnard, Jim and Jeff (Tania) Jewell, Shelly Leonard, Pastor Corrine Johnson, Tony and Marc Granquist; very special friends, Nick Tutas, Emily, Jason, Jeremy and Marvin Purdue, Beth, Amanda, and Tim; and many other great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Gerald Kanska
KINGSFORD - Gerald John Kanska, 79, of 725 Withworth Ave., Kingsford, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 6, 1924, in Eau Claire, Wis., son of the late John and Letha (Guthrie) Kanska. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Kingsford Schools.
Gerald was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 744th Railroad Battalion in Europe from 1943 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
He married the former Alice Querio on March 6, 1948, at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2000.
Gerald was employed at Lakeshore, Inc. as a welder, fabricator, and layout man for 37 years until retiring in 1986.
Gerald served as constable of Breitung Township for seven years and was also a volunteer for the East Kingsford Fire Department. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3674, where he served as senior vice president, and the AMVETS Post 777, where he was past post commander. Gerald was also a member of the American Legion Post 50 and a life long member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 23. He did years of volunteer work for the Veterans Administration Hospital and was a V.A. Voluntary Services representative for the AMVETS at the hospital.
Gerald attended the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. He loved fishing, gardening, hunting and dancing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Gerald was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hallman and three brothers-in-law, Zippy Hallman, Jack Price and Chuck Nash.
He is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Patrick) Barkley of Raleigh, N.C. and Sally (Ronald) Osterberg of Aurora, Wis.; three sisters, Edna Nash of Kingsford, Joyce (Andy) Butsic of Kingsford, and Norma Price of Ashland, Wis.; a step-grandson, Jason (Rebecca) Barkley; a God grandson, Christopher Meier; special friend, Ida Anderson and several nieces and nephews; close friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. William Seitz will officiate. The Legion Post 50 will conduct military graveside services at cemetery Park following the funeral service. A luncheon will be served at the First United Methodist Church on 5th Street in Iron Mountain immediately after.

Thomas R. Barlow
NIAGARA - Thomas R. Barlow, 51, of 808 Vine St., Niagara, Wis., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.
There will be no service for Thomas at this time.

Dorothy Erickson Adams
NORWAY - Dorothy 'Dots' Adams, 86, of Norway went to be with her Savior on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, after a brief battle with cancer. Dorothy had resided at Christian ParK Village in Escanaba for the past six years, where she has been under the loving wing of many caring people and frequently visited by the ones dear to her.
She was born on June 17, 1917, daughter of Edwin and Anna (Lindholm) Turnquist. Dorothy lived in Norway most of her life. She graduated from Norway High School in 1935, and took a correspondence course in business following high school. Working in a bank in Iron Mountain and a paper company for a short time, she found her calling as secretary of the Dickinson-Iron Counseling Center until her retirement in 1982. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Norway, Dorothy's faith was a foundation to her family and friends. She was a Sunday school Treasurer and active in Women's Missionary Guild for many years. On June 10, 1939, she married Earl Krook, who died in World War II in 1944. On April 6, 1947, Dorothy remarried Clarence Erickson, who preceded her in death in December of 1956.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and David Turnquist and a grandson, Steve Norman.
Dorothy loved to knit, crochet, quilt, craft, and sew. She also had a knack for baking. With these exquisite talents, she extended them with love to her family, friends and neighbors. She loved to entertain and was a wonderful homemaker. Holidays were always a special event. Many memories are remembered through her many photos.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-grandmother and will be truly missed by all that cared, loved and knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her three children; daughter, Karin Krook Norman (Bruce) of Rapid River, son, Robert Erickson (Sue) of Minnesota, and daughter, Janet Erickson O'Brion (Jack) of Norway; her seven grandchildren, Mark Norman, Kim Norman Pardee (Jim), Jayna Erickson, Lee Erickson, Erin O'Brion, Megan O'Brion and Katey O'Brion; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, Jordan, Jacob, and Jared Pardee; a sister-in-law, Bernadette Turnquist; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.

Elvera L. Lundquist
KINGSFORD - Elvera L. Lundquist, 84, of 1820 Mary's Way, Kingsford, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Stambaugh Township, daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth (Ostlund) Anderson. Elvera graduated from Iron River High School in 1936. On April 26, 1941, she married Archie Lundquist in Marquette. He preceded her in death in December of 1975. Elvera was a charter member of the Ely Baptist Church in Ely, Minn. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iron River and attended the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. In her earlier years, Elvera was an active member of First Baptist Church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and serving in the Ladies Aid. She loved the Lord, her family, and many dear friends.
Elvera was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Harold Anderson, and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Osterberg.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann (Peter) Javoroski of Kingsford, Jane (Rod) Liimatainen of Chassell, and Karen (Gordon) Person of Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Rod) Starch, David (Robin) Osterberg, Benjamin (Pamela) Osterberg, Alan Osterberg, Kristen Osterberg, Carl (Barbara) Liimatainen, Jon (Amanda) Liimatainen, Joel (Emilie) Liimatainen, and Linnea Draper; two step-grandchildren, Scott (Tara) Person and Ryan (Rebecca) Person, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Rev. Peter Erickson and Rev. James Danielson will co-officiate. Burial will be at the Iron River cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

R. Murray Newman
HOMESTEAD, Wis. - R. Murray Newman, 82, of Homestead, Wis., died, Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Murray was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Muskegon, Mich., son of the late Robert and Evadna (Murray) Newman. He served during World War II as seaman first class with the United States Navy. He received his bachelor of science degree from Michigan Technological University. He married the former Lorraine Pavlat on July 29, 1944, in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1997. Murray was employed for 40 years as managerial engineer in fire research for Factory Mutual Engineering Corporation in Norwood, Mass., retiring in 1983. He has been a resident of this area since 1983. Murray was a member of the Shriner's. He was a life master with the duplicate bridge and played bridge with two of the local bridge clubs. He loved to play bridge, enjoyed fishing and was known for being a very low key man with a tremendous sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kendall, and a sister, Mary Beth.
Murray is survived by his daughter, P.K. Newman of Homestead; his son, Jeff (Jan) Newman of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Kristen, and Eric Newman, and three nieces including a special niece, Kendra Tourre.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Ric Butikus will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
