Frances Gohrsch
IRON MOUNTAIN - Frances C. Gohrsch, 92, of 1300 Michigan Ave., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
She was born May 8, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Thomas and Laura Isdell. Frances married Ralph Gohrsch on April 26, 1930, in Franklin Park, Ill. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1968. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Alice.
Frances enjoyed visiting with people, playing cards and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family very much. Her beautiful Irish smile will remain in our hearts forever and in those lives she touched.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Kay Parkinson of Iron Mountain; two grandsons, Master Sgt. Thomas (Leila) Parkinson of Mountain Home, Idaho and Master Sgt. Michael (Kim) Parkinson of Vacaville, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mike and Nick Parkinson and Kaitie, Zach, Hunter, Jake, and Justin Parkinson; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in Grayling, lower Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Janice Vandecusteele
LAWRENCE, Mass. - Janice M. (VanPembrook) Vandecusteele, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at her home in Lawrence, Mass.
Mrs. Vandecusteele was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Methuen.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, Henry; two sons, Randy and Stephen, both of Lawrence, Mass.; a brother, William (Toni) VanPembrook of Pembine, Wis.; two sisters, Patricia (Roger) Baravetto of Kingsford and Bonnie (Bill) Cavaiani of New Berlin, Wis.; and a grandson, Todd, at home.
Janice was preceded in death by her son, David and her parents.
A private burial was held on Monday followed by a memorial Mass celebrated on Thursday at St. Monica Catholic Church.

Delor Miller
KINGSFORD - Delor 'Bud' M. Miller, 80, of 121 Newton St., Kingsford, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born on May 29, 1923, in Rio, Wis., son of the late Clinton and Laura (Mack) Miller. He moved to Kingsford in 1925 and attended Kingsford schools, graduating in 1941. He worked in Milwaukee for two years and then went into the U.S. Navy in 1943 at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago. He was shipped to California and served during World War II on the USS Waters. He was stationed on several South Pacific Islands as a radar operator. After returning home, he worked for Branz Mechanical Contractors until his retirement in 1980. He married Betty Ozzello on June 28, 1947, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years together. He enjoyed going to coffee with the guys at the Iron Mountain Senior Center. He also enjoyed going to camp, hunting, fishing, golf, watching the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with family and friends. Bud was involved with the Kingsford Little League, United Commercial Travelers (UCT) Club, Sorba Club, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald R. Miller; a sister, Jonquil Willis; a sister-in-law, Pat Ozzello; a son, Perry John Miller; and a grandson, Nicholas Emil Dunlap.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Ozzello) Miller; three daughters, Dr. Jean M. Wortock of St. Petersburg, Fla., Peg Alfred of DePere, Wis. and Ann (David) Dunlap of Niagara; a son, Daniel J. (Carrie) Miller of Kingsford; 11 grandchildren, Andy, Allison, Jacob, Sabrina, Stephanie, D.J., Ariel, Nathaniel, Chantel, Lexy, and Faith; a sister, Mary Lou (William) Rabenburg of East Kingsford; four brothers-in-law, John Willis of Bokeelia, Fla., Dr. Lawerence Ozzello of Eau Claire, Wis., James (Carrie) Ozzello of Livonia, N.Y. and Anthony Ozzello of East Kingsford; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jerry Taff, Fr. Joseph O. Gouin, and George Blagec.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish Prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at the American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Vernon Magray
NIAGARA - Vernon 'Vern' Magray, 53, of Niagara, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Nov. 27, 1949, in Mansfield Township and has been a resident of this area for most of his life. He served as a medic in Germany for the United States Army and for the past three years he was employed by Wal-Mart. Vern enjoyed motorcycles, camping, and working crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his special friend, Linda Schettler of Niagara; his father, Robert (Dorothy) Magray of Crystal Falls; his mother, Betty (William) Schintgen of Pembine, Wis.; his brothers, Robert (Patricia) Magray of Oneida, Wis., and Raymond Magray of Old Mill Creek, Ill. and William (Cindy) Magray of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Betty Wilmot (fiance' Terry Moriarity) of Niagara.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his memory.

John McGuire
HARDWOOD - John L. McGuire, 53, of Hardwood, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Feb. 15, 1950, in Escanaba, son of the late Chester and Thelma (Erickson) McGuire. He had been a resident of Hardwood his entire life. He married the former Sharon Siegler on June 17, 1972, in Foster City. John worked for Robinson Furniture in Wilson for more than 30 years. Most recently, he had been working for U.P. Special Delivery. John was a member of Mission Covenant Church. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and especially loved spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Tracy McGuire of Green Bay, Wis. and Andy McGuire of Hardwood; his brothers and sisters, Roy (Bonnie) McGuire of Green Bay, Mary (Robert) Bauer of Hardwood, Ethel (Lem) LaBonte of Spalding, Diana (Steve) LaBonte of Spalding, Willie McGuire of Green Bay, Margaret (Marvin) Casperson of Wilson, Richard (Donna) McGuire of Foster City and Linda (Richard) Lantagne of Escanaba; a granddaughter, Megan; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. Lloyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.

Raymond Van Haute
AURORA, Wis. - Raymond L. Van Haute, 86, of 1727 County Road N, Aurora, Wis., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Ray was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Aurora, the son of the late Leo and Mary (DeClark) Van Haute. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 3 1/2 years in the Aleutian Islands, Italy, France and Germany. While serving his country he received the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. Ray married Doris Anderson on Sept. 4, 1948, at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. He delivered milk for Wahlstom's Dairy in Aurora for 25 years. Ray enjoyed woodworking and spending time in the woods logging with his horses. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aurora and the Florence Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Weaver and LaVanna Olson, and one brother, Leonard Van Haute.
Ray is survived by his wife, Doris; three children, Donna (Robert) Holton of Aurora, Allen (Mary) Van Haute of Green Bay, Wis., and Marlene (Larry) Ethier of Rock Springs, Wyo.; a brother, Henry 'Cotton' (Dorothy) Van Haute of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Paul and Tracie Holton, Kathryn and Andy Ethier, and Amanda and Allison Van Haute; three great-grandchildren, Brian, Nikki, and Caitlynn Holton; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Mike Betley will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don DeClark, Don Hoaglund, Ralph Hoaglund, Clarence Osterberg, John Zoeller, and Bruce Walstrom.

Lester Johnson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Lester W. Johnson, 83, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1920, son of the late Martha and Walter Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served 36 months in the South Pacific Theater. He was well-known for his woodworking craftsmanship and channeled it into his life's work in the cabinet, countertop and fine furniture making business, under Les Johnson Cabinet Shop and in the late 1960s, he formed Les-Cove Inc. In 1946, he married Jeanne Wahlstrom and they would have celebrated 57 years of marriage in October. Les was a member of the First Lutheran Church and served on the church board for many years. He was an ardent hunter and fisherman and enjoyed trips to Alaska and British Columbia with his son, David. His love of nature led him to plant 100, 000 Christmas tree seedlings at his cabin where people could go with their children to select their own tree. He also developed home sites at Lake Fumee, now known as Timberlane.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn, who was killed in France in World War II, and two sisters, Dolores Johnson and Norma Peterson.
Les is survived by his wife, Jeanne; two daughters, Janis (Al) Cortez and Sally (Tom) Duerr; his son, David (Jamie) Johnson; five grandchildren, Adam and Alex Duerr, Eric and Emily Johnson and Katie Cortez; a sister, Joy (Bill) Johnson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at First Lutheran Church.

Roy Bennett
IRON MOUNTAIN - Roy H. Bennett, 85, of 943 East H St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Freeman Convalescent Home in Kingsford.
He was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Iron Mountain, son of the late George and Emily (Pholson) Bennett. He lived in the area most of his life. Roy was a 1936 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He married Jean Lang on May 1, 1943, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2002. He was employed at the Niagara Paper Mill for many years, retiring in 1977. He worked very hard to support his family.
Roy enjoyed having coffee with 'the boys' at Hardee's for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Roy was very proud to be crowned the King of the 2003 Valentine's Day Dance at Freeman's.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters; a brother; and a son-in-law, Bill Halama.
Roy is survived by three sons, Wayne (Debbie) Bennett of Lakewood, Wis., George Bennett of Green Bay, Wis., and Tim (Lori) Bennett of Iron Mountain; one daughter, Barbara Halama of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Helen Kapalin of Suring, Wis.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne, George, Tim, Jason, Terri, and Brian Bennett.
The family would like to thank the staff of Freeman Convalescent Center for their commitment to excellence, compassion, and consistent care enabling Roy to maintain a fulfilled quality of life and dignity throughout his stay. Everyone was drawn to the twinkle of mischief in his blue eyes and we will always treasure his sense of humor.

Barbara Mortensen
KINGSFORD - Barbara J. Mortensen, 67, of Kingsford, formerly of Roseville, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Manor Care Health Center.
She was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Manorville, Minn, daughter of the late Ronald and Velma (Campbell) Quimby. She had been a resident of Roseville for many years. She belonged to the bridge club and had volunteered for the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Barbara enjoyed gardening and traveling with her close friends.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Daniel (Vicki) Mortensen of Roseville and David (Patricia) Mortensen of Spread Eagle, Wis.; one daughter, Kristi (Tom) Motko of Independence, Ore.; a brother, Bruce (Ruth) Quimby of Florida; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Roseville Memorial Chapel in Roseville.
Graveside services will follow in the Roselawn cemetery.

Margaret Bollerman
IRON MOUNTAIN - Margaret H. Bollerman, 97, of Iron Mountain, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born Nov. 8, 1905, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late James and Emily (Cowling) Hooper. She was a lifelong resident of this area. Margaret enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, and was an avid bridge player. Margaret was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain and the Pine Mountain Bridge Club.
She is survived by a son, Donald Fontana of Kingsford; her daughter-in-law, Carol Fontana of Channing; a sister, Genevieve Trudell of ManorCare; six grandchildren, Nancy (Bill) Brisson of Mt. Clemens, lower Michigan, Susan (Rick) Holland of Iron Mountain, William (Kim) Fontana of Escanaba, Robert (Carol) Fontana of West Dundee, Ill., Kevin Fontana of Elk Grove, Ill. and Dawn Marie (Bob) Kowalczyk of Elk Grove; 10 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband, John Fontana, and her second husband, Howard Bollerman. She was also preceded in death by two sons, John and William Fontana; five brothers, William, James, Richard, Norman, and Robert Hooper; and two sisters, Mary Crocker and Alice Taylor.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Rev. Bill Seitz will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
