Dean Schneckloth
IRON MOUNTAIN - Dean Schneckloth, 79, of Rhinelander, Wis., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fort Snelling National cemetery in Minneapolis with full military rites.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is in charge of local arrangements.

Janice Dallapiazza
KINGSFORD - Janice E. Dallapiazza, 74, of Kingsford, went to be with our Lord Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004.
She was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Wilson, the daughter of the late Alfred and Irene (Devine) Schoen. She graduated from Bark River High School in 1946.
Janice married Robert Dallapiazza on June 9, 1951, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Perronville. She had been a resident of this area since her marriage.
She was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and St. Barbara's Circle. Janice enjoyed hand crafts, crocheting, painting and playing cards. Her family was truly the center of her life.
Janice is survived by her husband, Robert; her twin daughters, Shelly (Tim) Hanson of Duluth, Minn. and Sheryl (Peter) Carobine of Kingsford; her twin sons, Robbie (Pam) Dallapiazza of Vulcan and Rick (Meg) Dallapiazza of Spread Eagle, Wis.; two sisters, Shirley Positano of Two Rivers, Wis. and Barbara Heikkala of Harvey; and 12 grandchildren, Erik (Nancy) Hanson, Katie (Josh) Harworth, Krissy Hanson, Elizabeth (Larry) Benz, Sara Carobine, Robby, Nick, Casey, and McKenna Dallapiazza, and Robert, Mari and Meggie Dallapiazza.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan and Alfred Schoen and a sister, Jean Bonnet.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Norway Township cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Erik Hanson, Robert Dallapiazza, Robby Dallapiazza, Nick Dallapiazza, Larry Benz and Josh Harworth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetic Association or charities that aid the research, development and support of children with Downs Syndrome.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Paul Aho
KINGSFORD - Paul Aho, 84, of 1820 Mary's Way, Kingsford, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Paul was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Rock, son of the late Jack and Anna (Hallinen) Aho. After graduating from Negaunee High School in 1938, he attended business school in Escanaba before going to work for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Co.
He served in the Pacific Theatre with the Fifth Army Air Force during World War II including New Guinea, the Philippines and Okinawa. He was also part of the occupation troops in Japan after the war.
Following his discharge in 1945, Paul entered Gregg College in Chicago to pursue a career in court reporting. His first on-the-job training began in 1947 in Muskegon and Hart, both in lower Michigan. He was appointed court reporter for the 28th Circuit Court in Cadillac, lower Michigan in 1948.
Paul married the former Miriam Johnson on May 15, 1948, in Negaunee.
He became the court reporter for the then new 41st Circuit Court of Iron Mountain in January 1955. Paul retired after 34 years as a court reporter in 1982.
He was a member of the Michigan Court Reporters Association, served on the board of the Crystal Manor Nursing Home and was an active member, promoter and board member of the Community Concert Association.
Paul belonged to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, where he sang bass in the church choir for many years.
He loved to hunt and fish. He was passionate about bow hunting for deer and flyfishing for trout. In recent years, he enjoyed turkey hunting. Paul also loved to spend time at the log camp that his father, uncle and he built near the Ford River. As an avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed cross country skiing and taking daily walks during which he always carried a walking stick.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam; his six children, Ardis (John) Koski of Marquette, Gary (Patty) Aho of Bettendorf, Iowa, Robert (Lynn) Aho of Baraga, Kristine and Julie Aho of Duluth, Minn. and Bruce Aho of Hickory Corners, lower Michigan; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Craig) Wilmes of Castle Rock, Colo., Dr. Melanie (Steve) Pence of Grand Rapids, lower Michigan, Brenton Koski of Escanaba, Eric Aho of East Lansing, Karl Aho of Valparaiso, Ind., Douglas Aho of Augusta, lower Michigan, Anne Aho of Baraga and Kaitlind Aho of Augusta; and a nephew, Allen Aho.
Paul was preceded in death by his brother, William.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
A memorial will be established in his memory to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the Marquette-Alger Chapter Alzheimer's Association. Burial will be in the Negaunee cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Heights Assisted Living and Maryhill Manor in Niagara for their wonderful care.

Verle Klungness
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Verle R. Klungness, 75, of Spread Eagle, Wis. and Scottsdale, Ariz., died unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at her home in Scottsdale.
Verle was born in Iron Mountain on Aug. 1, 1928, daughter of the late Ruth and Ivar Anderson. She was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School in 1946 and then continued her education at Albion College in Albion, lower Michigan.
She graduated from Albion College, Phi Beta Kappa in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She taught school in Ishpeming for one year and then married James A. Klungness of Kingsford on June 23, 1951. Verle continued teaching for another 1 1/2 years in Channing until the birth of her first child. She then decided to be a full-time mother and wife.
Verle has been a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of PEO Chapter CX for more than 40 years. Education was very important to Verle and she set up a scholarship fund for qualifying Iron Mountain and Kingsford high school students who wished to attend Albion College.
She was also very generous to people in need, civic projects and local charities. She cultivated many friendships throughout her life and maintained close contact with those she loved wherever her travels took her.
Verle is survived by her husband, Jim; two children, Kraig (Kate Alvord) and Barbara, both of Houghton; three grandchildren, Nelson, Christine and Lorna Sommerfeldt of Houghton and a special four legged friend, Kinzy.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nelson Sommerfeldt, Bob VanLaanen, Larry Meyer and John Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Francis Drake
IRON MOUNTAIN - Francis R. 'smokey' Drake, 67, of 708 Houghteling St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Smokey was born on Feb. 3, 1936, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Francis W. and Mary (Process) Drake. He was raised in Mansfield and attended the one-room schoolhouse there until consolidation with the Crystal Falls School District. Smokey graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1953 and then enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in 1954.
Smokey was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service to his country. Upon being honorably discharged as a corporal, Smokey began employment with the Milwaukee Road Railway while attending Northern Michigan University. Working alongside cousins and lifelong friends, this was an experience he forever cherished. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in geography.
Smokey married Carol Sue Larson on Feb. 1, 1964, at St Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
He continued working with the railroad for a few years before enjoying 32 years as a social worker for Dickinson County, retiring in 1996.
Upon retirement he fulfilled his lifelong dream of building a cottage on his Mansfield property.
Along with dedicated Mansfield residents, he restored the one room schoolhouse bell and constructed a platform from which it now hangs and once again rings in honor.
He loved to travel and this took him back to his old Marine base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Smokey also visited Indiana Amish country where he made friends and was taught some time-honored wood working techniques which enhanced his already wonderful skills. He enjoyed trips to the western states and Canadian ski resorts with the Iron Mountain 'Over the Hill' ski club.
Smokey was a member of the St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and the American Legion Post 50. He loved people and had limitless interests and hobbies.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Sue; a daughter, Kerry Drake of Iron Mountain; a son, Todd (Jodi) Drake and their children, Kailee and Logan, all of Iron Mountain; a sister, Karen (Blair) Semke of Sheboygan, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Beverly Hendricks of Oklahoma; two aunts, Easter Rampanelli of Iron Mountain and Dorothy Utter of Detroit; two nieces, Kristen and Becky; three nephews, Lee, Mark, and Robert; and many cousins, friends, and his dog, Emmy.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Donald D. Anderson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Donald D. Anderson, 49, of Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born July 29, 1954, in Hibbing, Minn., the son of Arthur Anderson and Carolyn (Winters) Anderson.
Don worked for Skerbeck Brothers Show as a set up man, and ride operator. He enjoyed helping friends with any odd jobs.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Anderson; and his grandparents.
Don is survived by his mother, Carolyn Anderson of Kingsford; his father, Arthur Anderson of Niagara; two brothers, David (Lily) Anderson of Felch and Dale Anderson of Aurora, Wis.; a sister, Susan Anderson of Kingsford; a sister-in-law, Mickey Anderson of Kingsford; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Krista, Kyle, and Kari Anderson.
There will be a memorial service on Friday at 7 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MCAC (Medical Care Access Coalition) Volunteer Health Care for the Uninsured.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Robert O. Roell
CHANNING - Robert O. Roell, 86, of Channing died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born Dec. 6, 1917, in Green Bay, Wis., son of the late Edmund and Mary (Duffena) Roell. He was a 1936 graduate of Channing High School and lived in the area his entire life.
Robert married the former Imogene Pierron on May 3, 1941, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
He worked many years as a mink rancher until retiring.
Robert was a member of the Sagola Sportsman's Club, the Farm Bureau, and a life long member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing.
He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Robert was also preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kay (Terry) Croci, and a brother, Clarence.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Imogene; eight children, Sharon (Joseph) Bussone of Almont, lower Michigan, Robert E. (Wanda) Roell of Breitung Township, Patricia Roell of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Nancy (Stephen) Reese of Channing, Kenneth (Catherine) Roell of Channing, David (Julie) Roell of Channing, Tom (Patti Ann) Roell of Randville and Julie Roell of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Lenore (Hub) Jauquet of Channing; a sister-in-law, Agnes Roell of Channing; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Channing. Parish prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Church in Channing. Fr. George Kuppayil will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
Robert's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
