William Kauper
KINGSFORD - William 'Pat' Kauper, 82, of Kingsford, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Jan. 12, 1921, son of the late William and Ruth (Hutton) Kauper in Newport News, Va.
Pat spent his childhood in West Allis, Wis., and attended Marquette University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. His career spanned 41 years, all of them spent working in the heavy equipment sales division at Lake Shore Inc. He retired in January of 1986.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ruth (Goodman) Kauper; and a brother, Jerome.
He leaves one daughter, Jane (Duane) Juchemich of Kingsford; two sons, Dan Kauper (Jan Manthey) of Madison, Wis., and William (Patty) Kauper of Carefree, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Courtenay Nokes of Iron Mountain, Emily Cocking of Green Bay, Wis., and Andrew Butryn of Appleton, Wis.; two great-granddaughters, Brooke and Alix Nokes of Iron Mountain; a brother, James (Betty) Kauper of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Helen Cheadle of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves many wonderful friends, especially those at Evergreen.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed forever by all who loved him.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Louise Rocconi
IRON MOUNTAIN - Louise Elizabeth Rocconi, 93, of 1024 Stockbridge Ave., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born May 16, 1910, in Calumet, daughter of the late Dominick and Catherine Ferro. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1928 and worked for many years in the city of Kingsford offices.
Mrs. Rocconi was co-founder with her husband, Albert of the Rocconi Ace Hardware Store in Iron Mountain. She was a life member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club, a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain for many years, and a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
She is survived by a son, James (Myrna) Rocconi of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Jane (Charles) Mangrum of Miami, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Todd and Tracey Rocconi, Mykel (Jason) Billups, and Mark Mangrum.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rocconi was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1987; a sister, Mary Strom; and brother, Peter Ferro.
At her request, there will be no visitation.
Private family services will be held at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary & St. Joseph Church Restoration Fund.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with funeral arrangements.

Carl Bardon
IRON MOUNTAIN - Carl Bardon, 63, of Iron Mountain died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Sept. 26, 1940, in Ironwood, son of the late Carl and Lilly (Vaara) Bardon. He graduated from L.L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1959.
Carl served in the U.S. Army for three years, and he worked in Ironwood and Detroit for many years.
He married Dolores Lindstrom Grandahl in December of 1978. They moved to Iron Mountain and he worked for Khoury Inc. for many years before retiring because of failing health.
Carl loved to fish and hunt even though he had been unable to do so the last few years. He still enjoyed his time at camp visiting the guys.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores of 25 years; a daughter, Nicole (David Leopold) of Hancock; a stepdaughter, Shelley (Dave Payette) Grandahl of Two Rivers, Wis.; two stepsons, Robert (Chrisy) Grandahl of Escanaba and Raymond (Sharon) Grandahl of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson, Kyle Grandahl; three granddaughters, Carissa, Cassie and Courtney; two sisters, Shirley (Tom) McCauley of Redford Township, lower Michigan, and Carole (Matt) Rahko of Ironwood; an aunt, Millie Goyins of Ironwood, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friends, Steve and Brancy Collura of Ironwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Schwartz; a brother, George Bardon; an infant brother, Ralph Bardon, and a nephew, Dennis McCauley.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate.

Donnell Mitchell
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Donnell R. 'Mitch' Mitchell, of Spread Eagle, died, peacefully in the arms of family in his winter home in Fort Myers, Fla., Dec. 3, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. He was 79.
Born July 20, 1924, in Iron Mountain to Fredrick John and Ruth Johnson Mitchell, he graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1942, then served as a ship's cook, 2nd class in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After the war, he married Elizabeth Ebel and they settled in Kingsford, where he served on the city council from 1953 to 1956, and as mayor in 1956. Later, he served on the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors.
Mitch owned and operated the Iron Mountain Credit Bureau for more than 40 years, retiring in 1997. He was an active member of Associated Credit Bureaus. He was a longtime member of the American Legion, the Elks, 6-7-8 and the Chippewa Club (serving as president in 1975).
Mitchell was the current president and served for many years as treasurer of the Menominee Range Historical Foundation, which he founded in 1969 with Al and Robert Hoyle. He devoted years of personal effort to renovating the current museum and building its collection. He also chaired the Iron Mountain Centennial Committee and spearheaded the effort to preserve Iron Mountain's Cornish Pump and have it placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
Mitch was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He was a founding and longtime member of Sundog Hunting Lodge and made many big-game trips to Canada, Alaska, and the Rocky Mountains.
Mitch belonged to the Pine Grove Country Club, and, in recent years, played golf almost daily in Florida during the winter and around the U.P. in the summers. In 1993, his foursome (along with Ralph Carlson, Guido Jafolla, and Tim Endelman) won the Wisconsin Regionals of the Oldsmobile Scramble, qualifying to play in the Net Division National Championship in Orlando, Fla. He was proud of his three holes-in-one, the most recent in 2001.
A Green Bay Packers season ticket holder since 1959, Mitch spent many Sundays at Lambeau Field and attended the first two Super Bowls to cheer the Packers to victories.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth; six children, Maureen Piper of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jeffrey (Christina) of Lindenhurst, Ill., Frederick of Iron Mountain, Mary (Tim) Endelman of Iron Mountain, Michael of London, England and Patricia (Jeff) Lemke of Cary, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, William of Saginaw; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph Carlson, James Verrette, Robert Rigoni, Dr. Newton McCollough III, Brian Lucas, Zorba, Frederick Mitchell III, and Jordan Mitchell.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Menominee Range Historical Foundation.

Lila Makela
KINGSFORD - Lila Makela, 81, of 740 Saratoga St. in Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003.
Lila was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Floodwood, Minn., daughter of the late Toivo and Hilda (Rytioja) Hamari. She had been a lifelong resident of this area and was a graduate of Kingsford High School.
She married Arvo M. Makela on June 9, 1943, in Marquette County. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1970. Lila attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel; a sister, Hilka Bartolameolli; and a brother, Duane Hamari.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Linda) Makela and Wayne (Linda) Makela, both of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Pauline (Jack) Underhill of Iron Mountain; her four brothers, Rueben (Barbara) Hamari of Kingsford, Allen (Kathy) Hamari of New Brighton, Minn., Roy (Garon) Hamari of Kingsford and Donald (Marge) Hamari of Kingsford; a sister, Helen Wickman of Kingsford; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Danielson of Minnetonka, Minn., Ann (Eric, fiance') Makela of Madison, Wis., Christine (Mike) Smajda of Escanaba, Beth (Matt) VanDenElzen of Green Bay, Wis., Jeff and Jon Underhill of Green Bay, Nicole Makela of Marquette and Nathan Makela of Iron Mountain; five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Smajda and Owen, Jackson and Lila VanDenElzen; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Richard Kreider will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Dorothy J. Huck
FOSTER CITY - Dorothy J. Huck, 79, Foster City, died on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services in Kingsford.
Dorothy was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Marinette, Wis., daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Thode) Mans.
She had been a lifelong resident of this area graduating from Marinette High School in 1941.
Following high school she received her teaching certificate from Marinette Co. Normal School. She then taught at country schools in Peshtigo Harbor and Athelstane, Wis. Dorothy also taught for the Kingsford Schools.
She married Curtis Huck on July 27, 1946, in Marinette. Following her marriage, she taught school at the Park School in Marinette. After earning her bachelor's and master's degree from Northern Michigan University she worked as a reading consultant for the Menominee area schools retiring in 1985.
Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, trout fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynda Bierhaus.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Curtis; a son, Gary (Lynn) Huck of Menominee, Mich.; brothers, Robert (Alice) Mans of Dunbar, Wis., and Ronald (Betty) Mans of Port Washington, Wis.; a sister, Lois Carins of Marinette, Wis.; three grandchildren, Martin (Michelle) Huck of Edwards, Calif., Jessica Bierhaus at the University of Idaho and Ryan Huck at Albion College; three great-grandsons, Jerremy, Joshua, and Jacob;and her son-in-law, Lee Bierhaus of Lander, Wyo.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
Funeral services will be held at noon at the church.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Bruce Myers
PEMBINE, Wis. - Bruce 'Edward' Myers, 53, of Pembine, Wis., died Friday, Nov. 21, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1950, in Frankfort, Ind. Bruce married the former Diana Shuck on April 2, 1972. They have been residents of this area for the past 18 years. He has been employed as the manager of the lawn and garden center at Wal-Mart.
Bruce was a member of the Pembine Rescue Squad and the Pembine Fire Department where he served as the secretary and treasurer. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed meeting his friends at Mary's Place in Beecher, Wis. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Myers.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; his sons, Dennis (Mary) Myers of Appleton, Wis. and Brian Myers of Pembine; his daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Lenczuk of Round Lake, Ill.; his mother, Christine Reynolds of Kirklin, Ind.; three brothers, Randy Myers of Washington, Gerry (Kay) Myers of Wichita, Kan. and Toby (Kathy) Cox of Seattle, Wash.; his sister, Marcia Morrison of Darlington, Ind., and four grandsons, Hunter and Carter Lenczuk, Preston Myers and Jacob Myers.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pembine cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established to the Hope Lodge.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Norma Vanderlin
KINGSFORD - Norma Marion Vanderlin, 73, of 501 Avery Ave., Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on June 7, 1930, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Hollister W. and Minnie (Jensen) Phillips.
Norma worked at Westwood Quik Shop for 38 years, and also worked on the Election Board for the city of Kingsford. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross bloodmobile for many years and also for the Breen Senior Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsford, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Her hobbies included playing cards, painting her ceramics, woodworking, making candy wreaths and hoops, and playing bingo.
Norma married John H. Vanderlin on Sept. 11, 1947, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Phillips, and a sister, Shirley Moroni.
Norma is survived by one son, Michael Vanderlin of Kingsford; two daughters, Candy (Terry) Zambon of Iron Mountain and Sandy (Bob) Edgar of Iron Mountain; eight grandchildren, Michele (Jeff) Buckner, Tammy Zambon, Julie Rose, Tony (Michelle) Zambon, Sheri (Jason) Brault, Derek Zambon, Scott (Melissa) Neuens and Andrew Edgar; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Phillips, W. James (Sandy) Phillips, and Frank (Sandy) Phillips; two sister, Marcelle King and Phyllis (Bob) Mortl; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
