Harry Davidson
FELCH - Harry John Davidson, 84, of W4332 Davidson Road, Felch, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain after a year-long battle with multiple myeloma.
Harry was born at home in Metropolitan on Jan. 24, 1919, the youngest and last surviving of the 12 children of John and Mary (Wickman) Davidson. He was a lifelong Felch Township resident.
Harry graduated from Felch High School in 1937 and went on to attend Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He married the former Lucile Bayles on Aug. 4, 1941, in Chicago.
Harry retired as an electrician in 1981 from the Groveland Mine. He also worked in the Iron River underground mines, the Manitowoc shipyards, and in Kingsford for Ford Motor Co. He was a good mechanic and overhauled several engines in his garage. He used his welder to build a snow thrower for his tractor among other projects.
Music was a lifelong love. He accompanied himself on the guitar with a harmonica and frequently performed in local churches and competed in area music contests. His high school band was known as the Guernsey Trio, reflecting pride in the purebred Guernsey cows on the home farm. Harry was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan, where he was a council member and a choir member for many years. He could always be counted on to help a neighbor. His subtle humor brought smiles wherever he went.
Riding Indian and Harley motorcycles was another of Harry's lifelong pleasures. As recently as July he was regularly taking short stints on his 1978 75th anniversary Edition Electra Glide Harley-Davidson. The bumper sticker on his banged up pickup reads, 'Friends don't let friends drive rice burners.'
He spent as much time as he could outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, clearing snow, walking in the woods, and making his yearly supply of firewood. His yard teemed with deer, turkeys, songbirds, and the occasional bear that raided the corn barrel.
He served as secretary of the Felch School Board of Education for many years and was a trustee of the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Board. He was also a member of the Eastern Dickinson County Sportsman Club and the Metropolitan Farm Union. In recent years, he was on the Felch Township Board of Review and was an active member of ACES. Harry was an original member of the Men's Community Prayer Breakfast and the recently established Men's Monthly Bible Study.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Bill Jacobson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
