Joseph Conery
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Joseph N. 'Moe' Conery, 25, of Sheboygan, formerly of Iron Mountain, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at his home.
He was born on July 27, 1978, in Jacksonville, Fla. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1996 and attended Lakeland College. He was presently employed at Johnsonville Foods for the last two years.
Moe was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He also loved his reptile pets.
He is survived by his fiance', Nicki Decker and son, Seth, both of Sheboygan; his parents, Joseph and Kristine (Manko) Conery of Iron Mountain; his sister, Michele (Richard) Paulson of Davenport, Iowa; two nieces, Kaitlyn and Sidney Paulson; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Manko of Iron Mountain; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Conery of Iron Mountain; his future mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nancy and Rick Decker of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Norbert P. Manko of Iron Mountain and his paternal grandfather, Joseph A. Conery of Iron Mountain.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Eugene Stephens
IRON MOUNTAIN - Eugene 'Steve' Stephens, 82, of 309 Norway St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
He was born on March 30, 1922, in Duluth, Minn., the son of the late Max and Frances (Kozarek) Stephens.
At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marines and served during World War II. He served in heavy combat in the Marshall Islands, the Ryukus Islands, and on Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Steve married
Marjorie Querio on April 3, 1946, in California and they have resided in Iron Mountain since that time.
He worked for the Niagara Mill for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Veterans.
Steve was very family oriented and enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and time spent at Camp Six Pack.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; three daughters, Diane (Paul) Schabo of Iron Mountain, Karen VanDusen (Denny Scelonge) of Kingsford, and Donna (John) Phillips of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Kristi (Dan) Putney, Kelly (Tom) Gaucher, Kevin (Kristina) Nora, Kerry (Adam) Janquart, Curtis VanDusen, and Michael and Kristen Phillips; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Gaucher, Kendra Nora and Kendal Janquart; two brothers-in-law, Earl (Betty) VanNess and Bernard (Judi) Querio; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Granquist and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Max, Ed, and John Stephens; and by two sisters, Angeline Telega and Florence Krajewski.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Charlotte Sanford
KINGSFORD - Charlotte E. Sanford, 89, of Kingsford, died, Friday, May 7, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born March 25, 1915, in Peever, S.D., the daughter of the late William and Abbie (Bailley) McDowell.
She married
George W. Sanford on July 16, 1934, in Iron Mountain.
She and her husband worked their way through the Great Depression. They worked their way through 13 states, back and forth, north and south, selling stain remover that they made themselves.
They settled in Kingsford and owned and operated Sanford's Wholesale Business in Kingsford for nearly 50 years. Charlotte had also worked for J.C. Penny for a short time.
She was a member of First Covenant Church and enjoyed attending church. Charlotte also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and getting together with her family.
She is survived by one son, Darrell (Kathleen) Sanford of Aurora, Wis.; two daughters, Beverly (Robert) Gauthier and Gail (James) Gauthier, all of Cartwright, Okla.; two brothers, Don (Joyce) McDowell of Watertown, S.D. and Floyd (Leah) McDowell of Placerville, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Alice McDowell of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Evelyn Hamm of Iron Mountain; one brother-in-law, John (Grace) Sanford of Kingsford; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Sanford in 1998; one son, Charles, 'Skip' Sanford in 1991; two brothers, Arthur and James Sanford; two grandsons, David Barkle in 1962 and Richard Barkle in 1970 and one great-granddaughter, Blair Martin in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jean Sanford.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Robert Perucco
KINGSFORD - Robert 'Bobby' Perucco, 51, of Kingsford, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1952, in Cleveland, son of the late Louis and Geraldine 'Sis' (Flaminio) Perucco. Bobby moved to this area with his Mother in 1974 and has been a resident since that time.
At one point in his life, he worked for Trico Opportunities and he volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. In his special way, Bobby taught everyone he touched a little bit about love.
He is survived by his brother, Steve (Norada) Perucco of Vulcan and one niece, Amber Perucco of Vulcan. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Perucco in 1974 and by his mother, Geraldine 'Sis' (Flaminio) Perucco in 1999.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Fr. Charles Piper will officiate.
Burial will be in the cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson-Iron Special Olympics in his memory.

Nancy Merrill
FELCH - Nancy A. Merrill, 70, of Felch, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1934, in Naples, Maine, the daughter of the late Arthur and Norine (Smith) Bell. Nancy was a graduate of Casco High School in Casco, Maine.
She married
her husband, John on Jan. 17, 1953, in Naples. Nancy and John have been residents of this area since 1984. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church; a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Nancy loved camping. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and crafts.
She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Roy (Jodi) Merrill of Norway and Delvin Merrill; five daughters, Joyce (Richard) Cox of Lewiston, Maine, Necia (Kevin) LaPlaunt of Kincheloe, Rebecca Merrill of Iron Mountain, Cynthia (Steven) Vandenberg of Mohave Valley, Ariz. and Janice (John) Dynes of Felch; four brothers, Alton (Hazel) Bell of Fayetteville, S.C., David (Diane) Bell of Florida, Herbert 'Butch' (Debbie) Bell of Naples and S.K. 'Joe' (Sue) Bell of New Jersey; two sisters, Norma Flagg of Florida and Ada (Mac) Rollins of Naples; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and one grandson.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. Rev. Bill Jacobson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.

Amelia Nelson
QUINNESEC - Amelia Nelson, 84, of Quinnesec, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born July 6, 1919, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Ubaldo and Lucille Bartoletti. Amelia was a lifelong resident of this area and a 1938 graduate of Iron Mountain High School.
Amelia was employed at U.P. Office Supply for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and also St. Mary Catholic Church in Quinnesec. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Auxiliary 203.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Nelson on Dec. 3, 1989; two brothers, Richard and Orlando; a sister, Carrie (Domenic) Ruffatto; and a sister-in-law, Gerry Bartoletti.
She leaves a daughter, Lois Barglind (Daniel Juliette) of Grosse Point Woods, lower Michigan; a son, Allan (Julie) Nelson of Flushing, lower Michigan; two brothers, Louis (Esther) Bartoletti of Milwaukee and Adolph Bartoletti of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Ada (Donald) Rock of Iron Mountain; two grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or for a Mass in her memory.

Helen J. Johnson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Helen J. Johnson, 86, of 855 East G St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 8, 1917, in Marquette, daughter of the late William and Esther (Carlson) Bystrom.
Helen graduated from Graveret High School in Marquette in 1934, and then she attended the Detroit Business University in Detroit. She came to Iron Mountain to work for Lake Shore, Inc., where she met her beloved husband, Emmett G. Johnson. They were married
on Sept. 21, 1940, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. She devoted most of her life to being a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Helen was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Chippewa Club. Helen enjoyed going to her cottage at Sawyer Lake and going to the family camp. She loved art and music and handed down her talents to her children and grandchildren. Helen also enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially enjoying trips to the Bahamas, Acapulco, Mexico, and the Canadian Rockies. The highlight of her life was her grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Emmett; four children, David (Mary) Johnson of Iron Mountain, Peter (Robin) Johnson of Iron Mountain, Jaye Louise (Rick) Conn of Green Bay, Wis. and Michael Johnson of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Christy Pendleton in Florence, Ky., Larry (Krista) Johnson of Owosso, Mich., Michael (Annie) Conn of Muskegan, Mich. and Christopher Conn of Lansing. She leaves two great-grandchildren, Kelsey Pendleton and Isabelle Ann Conn and one godchild, Betsy Pape of Madison, Wis. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces, and her dear little dog, Ernie.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Friday at the First Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
