Caryl Ann Powell
SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Caryl Ann Powell, 81, of Tall Pines Road, Spread Eagle, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Caryl was born Dec. 21, 1922 in Chicago Heights, Ill., the daughter of the late Angus James and Margaret (Hoberman) McLaughlin. She graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1941.
She married Jack Eslick Powell at the family home in Chicago Heights, in the garden, and he preceded her in death on June 28, 1978.
Caryl worked for Victor Chemical in Chicago testing bomb components during World War II, and because of this job her finger prints are on file with the FBI.
She also worked for the City of Fort Wayne in the auditing department, helping them convert to computers. Caryl also worked for Basil Smeester at True Value in plumbing, and as a kitchen designer.
She was also an excellent seamstress and upholsterer. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing.
Caryl is survived by four children, Christy Powell of Kingsford, Rae Powell of Lakeport, Calif., Caryl Powell of Santa Rosa, Calif. and John (Debbie) Powell of Rolling Meadows, Ill; a brother, James McLaughlin of Chicago Heights; sisters, Patricia Campbell of Houston and Janet Egan of Sedona, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ashley and Travis Jones, and Jacob and Jeremy Powell.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

John Nepper
IRON MOUNTAIN - John Robert Nepper, 85, of White Birch Village, Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Manor Care in Kingsford.
Mr. Nepper was born on April 27, 1918, in Norway, the son of the late John and Mary (Ducharme) Nepper. He was a resident of this area his entire life and a graduate of Norway High School in 1937.
He married the former Genevieve Trudell on Jan. 3, 1942, at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain.
Mr. Nepper was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church.
He was involved in many volunteer activities, including serving as past president of the United Commercial Travelers at the local and state levels. He was also past president of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Golden K Kiwanis Club, the Vacationland Toastmasters Club and the Dickinson Auto Body Association. He also was a member of the Dickinson Pilots Club for 25 years.
He was a handyman and a skilled cabinet maker.
Mr. Nepper owned and operated Nepper's Auto Body Shop for many years retiring in 1983.
John served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and had served six months in Iwo Jima.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Genevieve; six sons, Gary (Enita) of Snover, Mich., Thomas (Jeanne) of Marquette, Stephen (Linnea) of Iron Mountain, Jeffry (Leslie) of Delafield, Wis., Dennis of Caro, Mich., Ronald (Gidget Martin) of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Tina (Daniel) Wilson of Waterford, Wis. and Carol (Kenneth) Janssen of West Bloomfield, Mich.; two brothers, Robert (Jackie) of Escanaba and Donald (Cynthia) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; two aunts, Isabel Giesen of Victorian Pines, Iron Mountain and Julia Ducharme of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren, Aaron and David Nepper of Snover, Sara Fehinger of Dollar Bay, Suzette Feliciano of Marquette, Paul Nepper of New Haven, Mich., Kelly Hanson of Waterford, Wis., Kristopher Wilson of Greendale, Wis., Jason and Kadie Marie Janssen of West Bloomfield, Mich., Brett and Stephanie Nepper of Iron Mountain and James and Corey Nepper of Marlette, Mich.; 15 great-grandchildren, Mark, Brian and Mariah Fehringer of Dollar Bay, Bradley James, Taylor Elise, Hallie Louise, and McKenna Erin of Waterford, Taylor Rae and Ella Kate of Greendale, Alyssa Rose Nepper of New Haven, Amanda, Kayla and Jacob Feliciano of Marquette and Ethan Michael Nepper of Iron Mountain.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Nepper was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at the American Martyr's Church in Kingsford. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Pallbearers will be Dave Rock, Mike Brygleson, Roland Anderson, Tim Chartier, Jerry Reddinger, and Ed Simbob.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Golden K.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Russell Farragh
IRON MOUNTAIN - Russell B. Farragh, 84, of 1118 Houghteling St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born in Diorite on March 29, 1920, son of the late Bryan and Olga (Keski) Farragh.
Russell was a World War II veteran and served with the SeaBees in the South Pacific.
He married the former Jennie Pezzotti on Nov. 27, 1946.
Russell worked as the service manager for Allis-Chalmers Co. from 1949-1980. He retired from the city of West Allis as supervisor of the public works department in 1985.
Russell was a 32nd degree and life member of the Negaunee Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Golden K Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie; a son, Kenneth Farragh of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Ann (Gary) Williams of Manitowoc, Wis.; a sister, Margaret (Robert) Gambotto of Howell, lower Michigan; two grandsons, Joel and Forrest Marsh of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his three brothers, Richard, Herbert and Gordon Farragh; a sister, Myrtle Arnold; and a nephew, Bryan Farragh.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow Friday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Negaunee cemetery.

Walter Kjell
PEMBINE, Wis. - Walter Kjell, 87, of W7772 Kjell Lane, Pembine, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born March 29, 1917, in Vananda, Mont., son of the late Gunnar and Ragnild (Heyerholm) Kjell.
Walter was a first sergeant in the Army during World War II.
He married Geraldine Spakowitz on Sept. 14, 1982, in Marinette, Wis.
Walter was raised in this area and spent many years in Milwaukee, where he worked as an inspector for Continental Can for more than 20 years retiring in 1982.
Upon his retirement, he and his wife returned to the area. He loved fishing with Fran and Wayne. Walter enjoyed crafts, carving, playing cribbage, going to the casino, and was a avid Green Bay Packers Fan.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine 'Gerry'; five sons; four daughters; one brother; one sister; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Chaplain Robert Mueller will officiate.
Burial will be in Aurora-Homestead cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Pembine-Beecher-Dunbar Rescue Squad or the American Legion.

Mary Walker
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Mary Jo Walker, 44 of W8085 Old Carney Lake Road, Breitung Township, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at her home.
Mary was born on June 18, 1959, in Manitowoc, Wis.
She married Thomas Walker on Nov. 30, 1990. She and her husband had been residents of the area for the past 10 years coming from Kaukauna, Wis. Mary worked as a photo processor for Photo One in Iron Mountain for several years.
She was involved in girl scouting. Mary raised and bred birds for years and enjoyed photography and scrapbooking.
Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Chelsey at home; a stepson, Jason Walker of Kaukauna; her father, John Micke of Kaukauna; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gene and Ethel Walker of Kaukauna; a brother, Jeff Micke of Wausau, Wis.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharie and Jim Halverson of Winneconnie, Wis., and her many friends from this area and the Fox Valley area.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Audrey.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at noon. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
A memorial will be established in her memory.

Duane Lidbeck
IRON MOUNTAIN - Duane R. Lidbeck, 71, of 724 East D St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Duane was born May 26, 1932, in Aurora, Wis., son of the late Simon and Florence (Markosen) Lidbeck. He had been a lifelong resident of the area.
He married the former Janet Uren on Sept. 18, 1954, in Iron Mountain. Duane operated the family farm in Aurora for many years and also worked for Hancock Wood Products for more than 30 years, retiring in 1994.
He loved to camp and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and building model airplanes. Duane enjoyed spending time at the airport watching small aircraft.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Lidbeck; two daughters, Sheryl (Butch Pohl) Michaud of Hermansville and Patti (Darryl) Uhazie of Manistee, lower Michigan; three sisters, Myrtle (Wallace) Jones of Breitung Township, Gladys (Gerald) Kinnee of Mesa, Ariz. and Gail Ford of Bellingham, Wash.; six grandchildren, Christopher Michaud, Robert Michaud, Tyler Uhazie, Alyssa Uhazie, Dawn Marie Meyers, and Jason (Jessica) Lidbeck; and three great-grandchildren, Makenna, Preston and Marcus.
Duane was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; and two brothers, Warren and Curtis Lidbeck.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Carl Wood
SAGOLA - Carl V. Wood, 50, of Sagola, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born April 12, 1953, in Jackson, lower Michigan, son of the late John and June (Stimer) Wood. Carl was a 1972 graduate of Norway High School.
He married the former Sandra Helberg on Dec. 31, 1982, in Iron Mountain.
Carl had worked for Wally's Auto Salvage for the past 12 years.
He loved his dog Tuffy. He enjoyed working on cars, especially restoring his antique cars.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Jessica and Tiffany Wood of Sagola; a stepdaughter, Kristen Allen of Iron Mountain; a sister, Patricia; a grandson, Tyler Treiber; two step-grandchildren, Izzak Allen and William Thomas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gregory (Shirley) Todish of Gwinn, Stanley Helberg of Iron Mountain, Judy Helberg of Iron Mountain, Jeffrey (Laurie) Helberg of Kingsford and Robert Helberg of Iron Mountain; and his close friends, Allen Oakes and Rod 'Rat' Massa.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
