Donya Freeberg-Dobinski
FLORENCE, Wis. - Donya Joyce Freeberg-Dobinski, 38, of Florence, Wis., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
She was born Jan. 13, 1966, in Iron Mountain, daughter of Gary and Sharon (Wood) Freeberg.
She graduated from Kimberly High School Class of 1984. She formerly lived in the Fox Valley area, and was employed at Copps Food Market.
Donya was a very loving and caring individual. She enjoyed making floral arrangements, walking in the woods with her dog Duce, reading, and listening to music. She collected crystal sun catchers, Beanie babies, unicorns, bears, and snowmen.
Donya is survived by her parents, Gary and Sharon Freeberg; her fiance' and special friend, Bruce Wood and his daughter Megan of Sheboygan, Wis.; her uncles, Vance (Frances) Freeberg of Homestead, Wis., Ernest (Kim) Freeberg of Iron Mountain, and Clark (Patricia) Wood of Deltona, Fla.; her aunt, Helen (Larry) Marheine of Kimberly, Wis., and numerous cousins. Other survivors include; aunts Patricia Wood and Marilyn Wood, both of Iron Mountain and Vivian Wood of Spread Eagle, Wis. and an uncle, Joseph Groleau of Iron Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Lottie Wood of Kingsford; her paternal grandparents, Karl and Ardith Freeberg; four uncles, Lyle Wood, Marvin Wood, Floyd Wood, and John Trulock; two aunts, Joyce Groleau and Delores Trulock; and a special cousin, Debbie Duncan.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Mary Ellen Wickman
FELCH - Mary Ellen Wickman, 60, of W6436 Groveland Mine Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Jan. 5, 1944, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Dellis) Thoune.
Mary Ellen was a lifelong resident of the Felch area. She married Ernie Wickman on Sept. 16, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City. She enjoyed the outdoors and sports, especially baseball. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and flower gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie Wickman Sr.; three children, Karen (Ken) Luedtke of Felch, Kim (Buddy) Oman of Ralph, and Ernie (Marlene) Wickman Jr. of Quinnesec; 11 grandchildren, Kristin, Kelsie, Karlyn, Kenny, Brandon, Amanda, Auna, David, Kristy, T.J. and Marissa; one brother, Harold (Eleanor) Thoune of Escanaba; three sisters, Evelyn Ellis of Portage, Ind., Alice LaHullier of Marquette, and Lucille Cooper of Kingsford.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle Peronto and five brothers, Willard, Louie, David, Joe and Eddie Thoune.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at the church. Fr. George Kuppayil will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Wickman Jr., Ken Luedtke, Buddy Oman, Brandon and David Oman and John Miller.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.

Elizabeth Ripke
NORWAY - Elizabeth 'Betty' Ida Ripke, 89, of 414 Chestnut Ave., Norway, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Hyland Nursing Home.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1914, in Norway, daughter of the late Axel and Ida (Gronmark) Erickson.
She graduated from Norway High School in 1932. Betty moved to Chicago where she met her husband Charlie. She worked for the LaSalle Bank for 10 years and then moved to New Jersey where she worked for Westinghouse.
Charlie preceded her in death in 1966 and then she moved back to Norway to care for her mother. Betty worked for Wittock Supply until the age of retirement.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway, where she loved to be a devout member. She also enjoyed golfing, gardening, and traveling.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Carol Childress of Gerney, Ill.; two brothers, George Erickson of Kingsford and Robert Erickson of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ripke; three sisters, Elsie Erickson, Esther Erickson, and Edith Jensen; and three brothers, Everett Erickson, Erling Erickson, and Eugene Erickson.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the church. Rev. John Voelker will officiate.
Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.

Alice O'Kane
KINGSFORD - Alice J. O'Kane, 82, of 916 Withworth Ave., Kingsford, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born July 12, 1921, in Iron River, the daughter of the late Peter and Myrtle (Morrison) Wyosnick. Alice graduated from Iron River High School and then received her degree as a registered nurse from Illinois Masonic Hospital. She served as an ensign nurse with the United States Navy during World War II in Oakland, Calif.
Alice married William O'Kane on Sept. 9, 1944, in Carlsbad, N.M.
She worked for Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for several years and retired after 18 years as a registered nurse with the Dickinson County Health Department.
Alice was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Martha Rachel Circle of the church. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, sewing, camping and traveling.
She especially enjoyed meeting with her friends of the 399 club. She loved spending time with her family and playing with her great-granddaughters.
She is survived by her two sons, William (Yvonne) O'Kane of Appleton, Wis. and Richard (Mary) O'Kane of Sault Ste. Marie; a daughter, Sharon Schmeltzer of Kingsford; five grandchildren, Douglas (Kris) Schmeltzer, Michael O'Kane, Patrick (Shyla) O'Kane, and Ryan and Corey O'Kane; three great-granddaughters, Alexandra, Kamryn and Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, William on Nov. 10, 1977; her brother, Robert Wyosnick; and her son-in-law, Allen Schmeltzer.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.
Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Michael March and Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Virginia M. Dec
CHANNING - Virginia M. Dec, 85, of Channing died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Crystal Manor Nursing Home in Crystal Falls.
Virginia had been a resident of Channing since 1990, coming from Seward, Alaska.
She was born on March 10, 1918, in Sydney, Ohio, daughter of the late Herbert and Grace (Fullington) McVay.
She married John Dec on May 15, 1950, in Portland, Ore. He preceded her in death in November 1984.
Virginia worked as a school librarian for many years. She was a member of St. Rose Church in Channing.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Dec of Channing; her son, John (Sharon) Dec of Livermore, Calif.; a brother, Herbert (Marion) McVay of San Diego, Calif., a sister, Martha McVay of San Diego; five grandchildren, Paul (Jeanne) Johnson, Greg Johnson, Molly (Thomas) Hubbell, Mary Kate and Jared Dec; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Johnson and Joseph Hubbell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James in 1968; a brother, Charles McVay; and a sister, Josephine Butler.
Visitation was held today from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Channing. The rosary was recited at 10:30 a.m. today at the church.
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at the church and Fr. George Kuppayil offered the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Seward cemetery in Seward, Alaska.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Jody Lynn Rose
KINGSFORD - Jody Lynn Rose, 38, of 128 Newton St., Kingsford, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, in Homestead, Wis.
She was born July 14, 1966, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Kenneth and Kathleen (Schuirmann) Larson.
Jody worked as a kitchen aide at Evergreen Assisted Living. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping and going to rummage sales.
She married Jerry Rose on Nov. 1, 1986, at First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Jody was preceded in death by her son, Calvin and her mother-in-law, Joan Rose.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; two daughters, Brittany and Amanda, both at home; three brothers, Randy (Denise) Larson of Iron Mountain, and Rick (Joanne) Larson and Kenny Larson, both of Beloit, Wis.; four sisters, Marlene (Tom) Leinen of St. Joseph, Mo. and Christine (Mike) Rousseau, Laura (Amos) Hummell and Linda Meade, all of Beloit; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Miller of Iron Mountain; her father-in-law, Gerald (Ellen) Rose of Spread Eagle, Wis.; a special aunt and uncle, Carole and Dick Schuirmann of Homestead, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held Monday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Wilton officiated. Burial was in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain assisted the family with arrangements.

Queenie Smalley
CHANNING - Queenie V. Smalley, 102, of Channing, formerly of Lansing, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on July 9, 1902, in Trufant, lower Michigan, daughter of the late Abraham and Candice (Perry) Smith.
Queenie was an avid dancer, loved to bake, crochet, knit and was a beautiful seamstress. She was very active at the senior center.
Queenie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Smalley on Dec. 4, 1982.
She is survived by her two sons, Frank (Winnie) Smalley of Tennessee and Jack (Debbie) Smalley of Lansing; two daughters, Barbara Brush of Shelby, lower Michigan, and Queenie (Chuck) Burcham of Channing; 25 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Visitation will also be from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home in Lansing.
Funeral services will follow at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home in Lansing. Rev. Richard Preston will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Ridge cemetery in Holt, lower Michigan.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
