Rita Mae Noel
IRON MOUNTAIN - Rita Mae Noel, 68, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. after a lengthy illness.
Rita was born on Oct. 7, 1935, in Kingsford, the daughter of Raymond and Mary (Burcar) Wells. She graduated in 1953 from Kingsford High School. After graduation she worked at Sackims and General Controls.
Rita married Arthur Duane Noel of Iron Mountain on April 26, 1958, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Together they spent 46 wonderful years.
Rita was very active in music and loved playing the piano. She played for the chorus in high school. In the 11 years that she and Art traveled to Arizona for the winter, they enjoyed clogging and square dancing in several shows. She was also an original member of the Amidon Follies. Rita also enjoyed going with Art wherever his band played, just to listen to the music, watch people dancing, and to talk with people. Once you met her, she became a friend.
Rita enjoyed the band concerts at Lake Antoine and Norway. For several years, she was a member of the 'smile-A-Whiles, ' bringing joy to area nursing homes until arthritis made it difficult to get around.
Rita is survived by her husband, Art; her sister, Carol (Earl) Rauland of Kingsford, her sister-in-law, Sadie Wells of Kingsford; two nieces, Cindy (Duane) Wender of Pine Creek, and Jody (Glen) Edlund of Peavy Falls, a nephew, Robert Jr. (Mary) Wells of Kingsford; an aunt, Rose Burcar of Florence, Wis., and several other relatives and countless friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Wells; her brother, Robert Wells, and her sister, Joyce Wells.
Rita will be dearly missed by her husband, sister, and beloved dog, Chelsea and everyone who knew her.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home.
Services will be Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 11:30 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Ken McMahon, Al Peterson, Jerry Makela, Jim Fruik, Dennis Larson, Billy Larson, and David Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Arthritis Foundation.
The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is assisting the family with arrangements.

Martha Draze
IRON MOUNTAIN - Martha M. (Roberts) Draze, 81, of 507 West C St., Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Sept.18, 2004, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wis.
Martha was born on Sept.13, 1923, in Michiwaka, Ind., the daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Long) Roberts. She was raised from early childhood by her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Cora Roberts.
She graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Negaunee in 1940. Martha went on to receive her cosmetology license from Crest School of Cosmetology in Marquette.
Martha married James Draze on Aug. 17, 1946, in Negaunee. She worked as a cosmetologist for several years in Ishpeming and Munising. Together, Martha and James owned and operated the Bel-Vue Hotel and Coffee Shop in Munising for many years.
After selling the Bel-Vue, they moved their home west of AuTrain on the shores of Lake Superior. While living there Martha worked as a clerk for the Alger-Schoolcraft Health Department until retiring in 1982. Shortly after retiring, they moved to Iron Mountain where they have resided ever since.
Martha was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She enjoyed taking tour buses to the casino, snowshoeing and furniture refinishing with her husband, Jim. Martha loved spending time with her family at their lake home and she also loved her pets.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim; two sons, James R. (Deanna) Draze of Kalamazoo, lower Michigan and Michael J. (Linda) Draze of Minneapolis; a daughter, Kathy (George) Pond of Iron Mountain; a brother, Joseph Roberts of Negaunee; a sister, Marie Bomaster of White Lake, lower Michigan; three grandchildren, Tony Draze of Mountain Iron, Minn., George (Breanna) Pond Jr. of Ann Arbor, lower Michigan and Steven (Clara) Pond of Avondale, Ariz. and several nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Bill, and Jim Roberts.
Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A Memorial Mass will follow at Saturday 1 p.m. at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery in Munising.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary and St. Joseph's Catholic Church renovation fund.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Elizabeth Ballario
IRON MOUNTAIN - Elizabeth 'Betty' Ballario, 93, of 600 West A St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Private family services are being held.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Julie Stuart
KINGSFORD - Julie E. Stuart, 75, of 528 Dickinson Blvd., Kingsford, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Julie was born on July 10, 1929, in Norway, the daughter of the late Howard and Chrystella (Rhodes) Simons. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947 and went on to receive her nurse's aide certification.
Julie married Bruce Stuart on Nov. 6, 1948, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and women's card club.
Julie was a great cook and enjoyed knitting, reading, planting flowers, and wintering in Florida. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bruce; three daughters, Chris (Doug) Edlund of Aurora, Wis., Candy (Vince) Lauk of Florence, Wis., and Norma (Paul) Raboin of Norway; her son-in-law, John Berquist of Merriman; a sister, Constance (Frank) Wenzel of Aurora; 10 grandchildren, Kathy (Scott) Doda, Doug Edlund, Jessica (Matt) Pancheri, Sara Berquist (Dan Basterash), Scott (Anemone) Beaulier, Stacey (Erick) Weecks, Dustin Beaulier (Summer Lindquist) and Nicholas, Nathan and Steven Raboin; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Stuart; two daughters, Brenda Stuart and Karen Berquist; and a great-grandson, Kalvin Weecks.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the church. Rev. Linda Piper, presider, and Rev. David Johnson, preacher, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lifeline Department at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

James Tirschel
IRON MOUNTAIN - James W. Tirschel, 77, of 1411 W. Ludington St., Iron Mountain, died, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wis.
Jim was born on Dec. 25, 1926, in Chicago, son of the late William 'Dutchy' and Ann (Grailer) Tirschel. He has been a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain. Jim was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School and served during World War II with the United States Army.
Jim has been married to the former Faye Gustafson for more than 50 years.
He owned and operated Jimmy's Bar, the Niagara Lanes and Chickies Bowling Alley in Iron Mountain. He worked many years for the Milwaukee Railroad and retired as the conductor who took the last run of the Milwaukee Road out of Iron Mountain.
Jim also worked for the past several years as the crossing guard at the Central School. He was always taking care of everyone else and doing something for somebody. Jim loved working as the crossing guard and seeing the kids every day.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; a daughter, Gaylyn (Al) Ziehm of Kingsford; a sister, Geri (Tony) Loverich of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kyle (Amy) Ziehm, Sonya (Jerry) Hamm, and Michael Tirschel; seven great-grandchildren, Joe Paul Plourde, Jennifer Massicotte, Daniel, Alyssa and Drew Ziehm, Karen Proudfit, and Nathaniel Tirschel; and one great-great grandson, Weston.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Tirschel and a granddaughter, Kelly Loar.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dane Paquette, Kyle Ziehm, Brian and Eric Gustafson and Michael Tirschel.
A memorial will be established in his memory.

Linda Zambon
IRON MOUNTAIN - Linda Zambon, 82, of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at the home of her daughter with her family by her side.
She was born March 18, 1922, in Hermansville, daughter of the late Gerolimo and Baldina (DelPra) Massignan. She attended Kingsford High School.
She married Donald 'Gopher' Zambon on Dec. 28, 1945, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1992.
She was a secretary for Zam's Services for the past 35 years.
Linda was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a great cook and took pride in preparing family favorites.
She enjoyed her trips to Arizona and Las Vegas, her outings to the casino and her days at the Big Z Lodge in Sagola. She will be especially remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, which she continued to demonstrate even in the last days of her illness.
She leaves three daughters, Suzanne (Pat) Gannon, Debbie (Mike) Floriano, and Lori (Steve) Mikulich; three sons, Don (Donna) Zambon, Mike (Maryanne) Zambon, and Keith (Wendy) Zambon; 14 grandchildren, Cindy, Bryan, Michelle, Jennifer, Michael, Ryan, Nicole, Kelly, Kara, Maria, Emily, Courtney, Alexis and Luke; nine great-grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Grant, Allysa, Logan, Wyatt, Chloe, Cole and Kailyn; her sister, Mary Burby of Kingsford; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her granddaughter, Camille; her parents; and her four brothers, Marco, Americo, Mike and Desio.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Michael Floriano, Bryan Gannon, Ryan Mikulich, Luke Zambon, Logan Witte, Brian Witte and Tom Quick.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Anita Feak
CHANNING - Anita Feak, 52, of Channing, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
She was born Jan. 13, 1952, in Crystal Falls, daughter of Art and Ruth (Johnson) Carey. Anita graduated from Channing High School in 1970.
She married Peter Feak on March 19, 1977, in Iron Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her father, Art Carey and her mother-in-law, Marie Feak.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Peter Feak; a daughter, Amy Feak (Ed Suarez) of Channing; a son, Charles (Jennifer) Feak of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Jamie, Zachary, Lauren and Jacob; her mother, Ruth Carey of Channing; a sister, Patricia (Raymond) Gerstner of Sheboygan, Wis.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Suzanne and Leonard Ivey, Paul and Rozlyn Feak, Jack and Mary Kay Feak, and Steve and Diane Feak; many aunts, uncles and cousins; nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
Anita loved spending time with her grandchildren and all of her family. She also enjoyed the outdoors, Nascar racing, football, bingo, bowling, knitting and reading. She was caring and fun-loving and her sense of humor will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
She touched many lived as a volunteer emergency medical technician (EMT) with Star Ambulance and as a volunteer firefighter with the Sagola Township Fire Department. She served as president of the ambulance service for several years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. Fr. George Kuppayil will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with funeral arrangements.
