Peggy L. Rowell
IRON MOUNTAIN - Peggy L. Rowell, 65, of 810 E. Main St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at her home, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Peggy was born Dec. 1, 1939, in Iron Mountain the daughter of the late George and Adeline (Wright) Balzola.
She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1957, and married Donald Rowell at Trinity United Methodist Church on Feb. 8, 1958. They would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
Peggy worked at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and The Drug Store for several years. She was a secretary at the Dickinson-Iron Technical Center for 25 years retiring in 1999.
Peggy was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She served in the circle, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school at the church. The ABWA recognized her as the woman of the year in 1986.
Peggy devoted her life to her family and friends. Her grandchildren all had a special place in her heart. She loved the Saturday mornings spent with her coffee girls. She especially loved spending time at Camp Conzano, going to the casino and taking trips to Mississippi to visit her daughter and family. She was an avid Mountaineer and Green Bay Packer fan.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Donald; three children, Donna (Clint) Pemberton of Clinton, Miss. and Todd (Patty) Rowell and Tim (Kim) Rowell, both of Iron Mountain; two brothers, Thomas (Denise) Balzola of DePere, Wis. and Peter (Cindy) Balzola of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Clinton III, Jonathan Pemberton, Angelica, Nicholas Rowell and Amber, Jordan, Gabe Rowell; one great-grandchild, Dakota; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will follow at 5 p.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe and Chaplain David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

William A. Bertoldi Sr.
KINGSFORD - William A. Bertoldi Sr., 78, of 709 Hamilton Ave., Kingsford, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Louis and Eva (Engibous) Bertoldi.
Bill was a 1945 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and a United States Army veteran. He married the former Joyce Olson on June 22, 1957, in Iron Mountain.
Bill worked at G. Bertoldi and Sons, Bertoldi Transport and spent most of his working career at the Iron Mountain Gas Co. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church where he served on various pastoral committees and 30 years as a lector. He was also a member of the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge, Pine Grove Country Club, Kingsford Athletic Booster Club and Ducks Unlimited.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons, William Bertoldi Jr. of Kingsford, David Bertoldi of San Francisco, Calif., and Paul (Amy) Bertoldi of Kalamazoo, lower Michigan; a brother, George (Frances) Bertoldi of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mary Bertoldi of Iron Mountain; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Drew Bertoldi, both of Kalamazoo.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Bertoldi.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northwoods Air Lifeline.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Bernadine Spies
KINGSFORD - Bernadine Theresa Spies, 52 of Kingsford, died Thursday, Feb, 3, 2005 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.
She was born March 21, 1952, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of Charles and Theresa (Fillion) Larson. Bernadine was a longtime resident of the area and enjoyed bowling, line dancing and fishing.
She is survived by a son, John Larson of Kingsford; two daughters, Ashley of Iron Mountain and Amy of Ypsilanti; her father Charles Larson of Marquette; two brothers, Mike Larson of Iron Mountain and Gary (Opal) Larson of Georgia; a sister, Carol Larson of Iron Mountain; a niece, Angie Larson of Kingsford; two great-nephews, Dustin and Brice Larson, and a great- niece, Cassandra Larson.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa; a son, Keith; and a sister, Linda.
Visitation will be on Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson -Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Keith Wall will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.

Wayne Swanson
KINGSFORD - Wayne A. Swanson, 64, of 800 Withworth Ave., Kingsford, died, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital after a two month battle with cancer.
He was born July 30, 1940, in Hermansville, the son of the late Conrad and Ruby (Morrison) Swanson. Wayne has been a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Norway High School in 1958. He attended Northern Michigan University and Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn. Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1963-65.
He married the former Patsy Ott on April 8, 1967, in Norway. Wayne worked for several years at Hancock Wood Products, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Green Bay Packers. .
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two sisters, Shirley Deau of Hagerstown, Md. and Constance Swanson of Norway; three brothers-in-law, James Smeberg of Marquette, Don (Mary) Ott of Vulcan and Rod (Jill) Ott of Iron Mountain; three sisters-in-law, Doris Swanson of Norway, June (Robert) Pollock of Randville and Helen Anderson of Kingsford; his mother-in-law, Cecile Ott of Kingsford; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by a sister, Carmen Smeberg and a brother, Richard Swanson.
Visitation will be held today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain and from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Ronald Wolfe will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Immanuel Baptist Church or Lake Ellen Baptist Camp.

Diane Gangl
SAGOLA - Diane Gangl, 57, of W8205 Wells Grade Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at her home.
Diane was born Oct. 1, 1947, in Chicago. She has been a resident of this area for many years coming from Pell Lake, Wis.
She married Kenneth Gangl on July 14, 1984.
Diane enjoyed bird hunting, she loved to fish and was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a son, Bryan Holkup of Appleton, Wis.; a daughter, Sherry Holkup of Escanaba; her father, Frank Dembski of Pell Lake, Wis.; two sisters, Darlene (Ronald) Hansen of Racine, Wis. and Debbie (Kevin) Podsiadlik of Pell Lake, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, LaVern.
Private family visitation and funeral services are being held. Fr. George Kuppayil will officiate.

Roland Tremain
KINGSFORD - Roland Tremain, 92, of 601 Marquette Blvd., in Kingsford, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
He was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Stephen and Ella (Perkins) Tremain. He resided in the area his entire life.
Roland married Vivian Janeshek on June 13, 1936, at First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and worked at Ford Motor Co. for 10 years.
Roland also worked at Kingsford Chemical for 10 years and was employed with Khoury Inc. for several years until retiring. He enjoyed landscaping and working in his yard.
Roland is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vivian; two daughters, Virginia West of Kingsford and Shelley (Robert) Petrick of Iron Mountain; a sister, Ivy Lee of Iron Mountain; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Petrick and Robert Petrick Jr.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Lynn Tremain; a son-in-law, Neil West; two brothers, Rueben and Art Tremain; and three sisters, Mary Lange, Almyra Johnson and Philophia Lindstrom.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Meredith Rupe will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Duane Flesch
AURORA, Wis. - Duane Richard Flesch, 56, of Aurora, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at his home.
He was born on Oct.16, 1948, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Richard and Beatrice (Mills) Flesch.
He was the co-owner of Demolition Disposal in Aurora. Duane enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by four brothers, Donald (Sharon) of Brookfield, Wis., Terry (Betty) of Aurora, James (Sue) of Kingsford, and Robert of Aurora; two sisters, Sheryle Karcz of Green Bay, Wis. and Rosemarie Flesch of Juneau, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Flesch; his mother, Beatrice Flesch Malmberg; and his brother, George.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Agda Carlson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Agda E. Carlson, 96, formerly of 401 East D St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born July 4, 1908, in Metropolitan, daughter of the late Matt and Hilda (Isaacson) Bjorkquist.
Agda was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan.
On July 4, 2004, Agda was recognized as the oldest Dickinson County resident born on the Fourth of July and was honored by riding in the parade.
In her younger days, she enjoyed traveling. Agda had worked for Dr. Huron for many years, both at his home and at his office.
She is survived by one sister; Ann (John) Porta of Iron Mountain and many nieces and nephews including Phyllis (Allen) Galeazzi, Raymond 'Bud' (Dorothy) Edlund, Glenn (Shirley) Edlund, Karen Friend, Gary Erickson, Edwin Bjorkquist, Barbara (Don) Secrist, and Donna (Jim) Webb. She is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Norman Carlson in 1956, and by four sisters, Elsie Erickson, Sandra Zeman, Signe Edlund and Teckla Bjorkquist, and by two brothers; Edwin and Elmer Bjorkquist.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
