Florence Berganini
IRON MOUNTAIN - Florence Berganini, 89, of 1100 W. Brown St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence, Wis.
She was born on April 16, 1916, in Virginia, Minn., the daughter of the late Thomas and Enrica Spigarelli.
Mrs. Berganini was a longtime resident of Iron Mountain. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, and participating in senior citizen activities.
She married Basil Berganini on June 10, 1936, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Florence is survived by one son, Robert (Donna) Berganini of Waupaca, Wis.; one sister, Jean Gratias of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Tanya (Kevin) Sigrist of Tallahassee, Fla. and Mark Berganini of Oshkosh, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Mike, Tony, and Molly Sigrist and Tasha Berganini.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Armand Spigarelli.
There will be no services.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Doris Mitchelson
KINGSFORD - Doris Lee Mitchelson, 74, of 200 Garfield St., Kingsford, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Detroit, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Jo (Hoffman) Pardon.
Doris graduated from Commerce High in Detroit and on May 29, 1953, she married Gerald Mitchelson in Detroit. In September 1970, they moved to this area where she and her husband Gerald owned and operated the Avenue Bar for seven years. Gerald preceded her in death on May 30, 1993.
Doris enjoyed going to rummage sales, playing cards, and watching soap operas. She was an avid Detroit Lions and Redwings fan.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce (Richard) Giuliani of Vulcan; one son, Joseph Mitchelson (Shelby Dixon) of Kingsford; two grandchildren, Richard (Nieko) Giuliani Jr. of Green Bay, Wis. and Melissa Giuliani of Kingsford; one step-granddaughter, Ariel and one great-granddaughter, Mya Larson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Brad Parent
KINGSFORD - Brad Joseph Parent, 26, of 428 Lyman Street, Kingsford, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Nov. 25, 1978, son of Kenneth and Pamela (Gidlund) Parent.
Brad graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1998.
He married Marie Ann Panick on Sept. 9, 2000, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2002.
He worked at Demolition Disposal doing many tasks, including running heavy machinery and office work.
Brad liked his tattoos. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boxing, weightlifting, and writing poems.
He also enjoyed playing with his daughter and his nieces, and going out with friends on Wednesday nights. He was also an artist.
More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his little girl, Summer Ann.
He was most known as a 'Gentle Giant' to all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Pam Parent of Iron Mountain; his daughter, Summer Ann Parent at home; a brother, Kenneth Robert Parent of Iron Mountain; a sister, Jenny Marie Parent of Iron Mountain; his paternal grandmother, Darlene Baxter of Iron Mountain; his maternal grandmother, Lois Gidlund of Kingsford and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Missing and loving him always will be his family.
Brad's pain and love for his wife, Marie is now still, as she joins him at Heaven's gate.
To understand is not our place, as God creates his own path for us to take.
Many tears and broken hearts are from this day.
We pray to God to give strength and love to all Brad left, especially for his mother, Pam, and father, Ken Parent, and his daughter who loved him so.
Never be able to replace the hurt, as they say good-bye to my brother, Brad.
May his pain be gone for ours will be long, forever missed, never to be forgotten by all he knew.

Dale LaVigne
KINGSFORD - Dale P. LaVigne, 64, of 529 E. Sagola Ave. Kingsford, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Feb. 2, 1941, in Kingsford, son of the late David and Violet (Patrick) LaVigne.
Dale was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1959.
On Oct. 3, 1970, he married Lynn Carr at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He had worked for 10 years at Jacobs Motors as manager of the Honda and Artic Cat Division. He also had worked as a CAD operator for Dickinson Homes for 27 years before retiring.
Dale was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and belonged to the Musician's Union for more than 35 years. He had played with many local bands and at one time had his own band called Whispering Pines. He loved music and computers.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; mother-in-law, Adelaide 'Babe' Carr of Kingsford; one brother, Dan (Sharon) LaVigne of Kingsford; one brother-in-law, Lon E. Carr of Winter Park, Fla.; one uncle, Larry Carr and family; one aunt, Cleo Acker of Silverton, Ore.; three nieces, Stacey Black and son, Dillion of Opopka, Fla., Andrea (Sam) Carroll and children, Zane and Sarah of Fayettesville, N.C., and Diana (George) Hrabousky and daughter, Steffie of Madison, Wis. and one cousin, Buddy (Sadie) White of Bluffton, S.C.; and many cousins in the area.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Wilcox, Bill Juneau, Terry VanHaute, George Pera, Larry Lidbeck, and Bob Tauscheck.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

Grace Newhouse
KINGSFORD - Grace L. Newhouse, 78, of 201 Hemlock St., Kingsford, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Grace was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Bergland, daughter of the late Nicholas and Elvira (Engstrom) Hill. She was a 1944 graduate of Bergland High School.
Grace married George R. Newhouse in Bruce Crossing in 1944. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1963.
Grace has lived in the area for the past 20 years, coming from Milwaukee where she owned/operated a bake shop and was also a baker at Marquette University. Her baking talents were legendary and enjoyed by many.
She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and also a member of the Red Hat Society. Grace did volunteer work at many places including the V.A. Hospital. She loved playing cards with her friends at the Kingsford senior center.
Grace is survived by four sons, Dale (Candy) Newhouse of Bergland, Roger (Jean) Newhouse of Niagara, Wis., Larry (Etha) Newhouse of Bergland, and Leslie Newhouse of Iron Mountain; one daughter, Cindy Newhouse of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Grace was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Clyde, Herman and Harold and one sister, Elsie.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford.
Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Deacon Brad Lemke will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Bergland.

Hosea Rowell
KINGSFORD - Hosea A. Rowell Jr., 70, of 437 Sterling St. Kingsford, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at his home.
Hosea was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Kingsford, son of the late Hosea A. Sr. and Edith (Munday) Rowell.
He was a resident of the area his entire life. Hosea loved going to camp and fishing. He also enjoyed cutting wood and collecting antique clocks and watches.
He is survived by three sisters, Ellen Kuhl of Flushing, lower Michigan, Melva (Roger) Frey of Iron Mountain and June (Phil) Dorfler of Kingsford; three brothers, Donald Rowell of Iron Mountain, George Sr. (Audrey) Rowell of Kingsford and Winfield (Denise) Rowell of Iron Mountain; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Loren, two nephews, Larry Frey and David Rowell, a brother-in-law, Fritz Kuhl and a sister-in-law, Peggy Rowell.
Private family services will be held.
Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.

John Frahm
KINGSFORD - Dr. John A. Frahm, 54, of 1509 Woodward Ave., Kingsford, beloved husband and father, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1950, in Sioux Falls, S. D., son of the late Hans and Agnes (Langley)Frahm. His family moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, shortly after his birth. He attended schools and graduated from Ottumwa High School.
Dr. Frahm attended Central College in Pella, Iowa and graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in biology in 1972. He went on to Medical School at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He received recognition and awards for achievement in physiology, pharmacology, and biochemistry. He did his training internship at Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan from 1975-1976 with dear friend, Dr. Carl Smoot.
Dr. Frahm served his Internal Medicine Residency in General Medicine at Mount Clemens General Hospital from 1976-1979. He then went on to private practice in General Medicine at Mount Clemens General Hospital from 1979-1985. While in private practice he participated in training of medical students, EMT's, interns, and residents. He was also a part of the Utilization Review from 1982-1985. In 1981 Dr. Frahm was awarded board certification in Internal Medicine. He was a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. He was a course provider and instructor for ACLS from 1976 to the present. His previous appointments were as staff physician from 1985-1990 at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He then served as chief, medical service, from 1990 to 1993. At the present time, Dr. Frahm was chief of staff at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, a position he has held since 1993. Other appointments held by Dr. Frahm were physician director of the ICCU, physician director of Respiratory Therapy, and acting chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the VA Medical Center.
Dr. Frahm served on the Resource Management Advisory Committee, the Clinical Executive Board and the Infection Control Committee, the Laboratory Liaison Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Facility Planning, the ICCU Committee, the Respiratory Therapy Committee, the Emergency Committee, the Safety Committee, the Quality Council, and was a member of the County Ambulance Control Board.
Some awards obtained by Dr. Frahm were the Special Contribution Awards, 1990-1991, Commendation, 1998 and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Certification of Appreciation, 1990.
Some special training Dr. Frahm received through the years was Title 38 Disciplinary Appeals Board Training-1994, Team Building-1994, Chief of Staff Institute-Completed January 1995, Management Development Program Certificate of Completion-February 1992, and Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives-1999.
Dr. Frahm's accomplishments as chief of staff included converting the medical center from hospital based system to a managed care model, establishing tele-imaging and tele-pathology programs between medical center and VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wis.; electronic medical record and most recently, chiropractic care services.
Dr. Frahm married Susan Robinson on March 31, 2001, at their home in Kingsford. He enjoyed traveling with Sue, spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, trap shooting, reading, and skiing. Dr. Frahm went goose hunting in Manitoba, Canada for the past 18 years with his oldest brother, Paul, and his brother in-law, Paul Lamont. Happily, his son, Jake joined the goose hunting group in 2004. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sue of Kingsford; sons, Jacob (DeeDee) Frahm of Duluth, Minn., and Joseph Frahm of Duluth, Minn., and their mother, Dr. Ruth Westra; stepchildren, Thomas Krause of DePere, Wis. and Emily Krause at home; his brothers and sisters, Dr. Paul (Ella) Frahm of Davenport, Iowa; Jeanne (Kore) Sneve of Oppdal, Norway; Joan (Russ) of Newport Beach, Calif., Barb (George) Monasky of Ambler, Pa., Carol Masters of Indiana, Janet (Jon) Bowermaster-Davis of San Diego, Calif., Linda (Paul) Lamont of Ankeny, Iowa and Mark (Vesta) of Ottumwa, Iowa and many wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dr. Frahm was a loving, hardworking man who made a difference in the world and who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dr. Frahm was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James Frahm and a sister, Judy.
Visitation will be on Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Dr. John A. Frahm's name.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
