Joanne Lucas
SAGOLA - Joanne C. Lucas, 76, of 222 Channing Ave., Sagola, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born June 26, 1929, in St. Louis County, Minn., daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Phillip) Capanoli.
She married James D. Lucas on April 26, 1952, in Buhl, Minn. They moved to Sagola in 1964, and resided there ever since. James preceded Joanne in death on Oct. 18, 2005.
Joanne loved bingo and was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings and her grandchildren's sports activities.
She is survived by a son, James (Valerie) Lucas of Breitung Township; a brother, Mario (Pat) Capanoli and a sister, Anina Capanoli, both of Hibbing, Minn.; four grandchildren, Adam (Sarah Carlson) Lucas of Green Bay, Wis. and Andrew, Allen and Austin Lucas, all at home and several nieces and nephews.
Joanne was also preceded in death by a sister, Speedita Tinsley; three brothers, David, Nick and Mike Capanoli and a sister-in-law, Helen Passard.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Sylvia Fenner
IRON MOUNTAIN - Sylvia Fenner, 84, of 712 Fairbanks St., Iron Mountain, died, Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Sylvia was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Iron Mountain. She was the daughter of the late Gustav and Agnes (Molander) Alexander. Sylvia was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School.
Sylvia is survived by her son E. Todd Fenner of San Francisco; two sisters, Lillian Eggert of Iron Mountain and Violet Lieblong of Conway, Ark.; many nieces and nephews including Shelly Geneva of Iron Mountain; and many close friends including Alice Weaver of Iron Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and two sisters, Linnea Best and Fern Leatherwood.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory to the Springlake Humane Society.
The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Evelyn Ziolkowski
IRON MOUNTAIN - Evelyn M. Ziolkowski, 86, of Iron Mountain, died Feb. 3, 2006, at Hyland Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Amboy, Ill., daughter of the late Roland and Anna (Landau) Albrecht. Evelyn worked for the Washburn Company in Rockford, Ill.
She married Edward Houdeshell on Jan. 21, 1939, and he preceded her in death in 1968.
She married Lesley Messimore in 1970, and he preceded her in death in 1975.
She then married Joseph Ziolkowski in 1976; he preceded her in death on April 27, 2003.
Evelyn enjoyed reading, cooking and sewing.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Neil Houdeshell of Englewood, Fla.; stepsons, Joseph and Jeff Ziolkowski of Loretto; a stepdaughter, Lynn Alston of Mauston, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Adrienne Houdeshell of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law, Donald (Joan) Ziolkowski of Wausau, Wis.; sister-in-law, Doris Jackson of Poynette, Wis.; three grandchildren, Neil Jr. (Tammy) Houdeshell, Kathleen Houdeshell and Michael Houdeshell; two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Houdeshell in 1981; a twin sister, Ethel Albrecht and her sister, Mary Porter.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Henry Ehlers
NIAGARA, Wis. - Henry Ehlers, 83, of Niagara, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara.
He was born on May 6, 1922, in Niagara, the son of the late Henry and Olive (Meyers) Ehlers.
Mr. Ehlers served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for many years at the Niagara Paper Mill (Pentair), retiring in 1983. Henry was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Henry also enjoyed baking during the holidays.
He married Mary Ann Gunville on July 27, 1946, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2004.
Henry is survived by his son, Joseph (Chris) of Niagara; one brother, Pat (Bernadette) of Milwaukee; three sisters, Margaret (Robert) Wallace of Hallowell, Maine, Catherine Cristanelli of Hallettsville, Texas, and Evelyn (Ray) Yaggie of Quinnesec; three grandchildren, Amy, Melissa, and Matthew Ehlers, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Holmquist and two brothers, John and Tom.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Ray Valerio will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Helen Harvey
ESCANABA - Helen Harvey, 94, of 2900 3rd Ave. South, Escanaba, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Escanaba.
She was born in Beechwood, on Sept. 27, 1911, the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Martha (Johnson) Saxon. Helen was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School.
She married John Harvey on July 19, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1986.
Jack and Helen had one daughter Jeanne (Bill) Sauter of Escanaba; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Shayne (Jason) Dix, and William. J.H. Sauter; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Avery Dix, and a third great-grandson will be born in four weeks to Shayne and Jason. Besides her immediate family, she will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law, Ruth Saxon and Vi Saxon, cousin, Irene Dishnow, Jim (June) Harvey, Mary Oas and her nieces and nephews.
Helen was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, the Ruth Circle, the Women's Club, and her 'sewing club.' She loved her family and friends, especially her great-grandchildren and great-niece, Carley Buchcuski, all of whom provided so much joy in her life.
Besides her parents, eight siblings preceded her in death, sisters, Mildred Saxon, Ester Anderson, Florence Anderson, Emily Kasen, Agnes Strolberg, and brothers, Delmar Saxon, Delbert Saxon, and Wayne Saxon.
A private family service will be held.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her memory to the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Building Fund, or the Bethany Lutheran Church Building Fund.

June Becker
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - June Kathleen Becker, 84, passed away peacefully on Jan. 26, 2006, at her winter home in West Palm Beach.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Milton; a son, Wayne Becker of Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Kay SanMiguel of Wrightstown, Wis. and Tech. Sgt. Ann Sims of Goellheim, Germany; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was born in Amasa, daughter of Edward and Flossy Luba. She moved to Kingsford at an early age where she attended Breitung Township Schools. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1939.
In 1941, she married Milton Becker. Except for a short period of time in Crystal Falls, she spent her entire life as a resident of the Iron Mountain area. She was well-known for her warmth, glowing smile, pasties, home-knit socks, and her ability to whistle through her fingers and be heard in the back forty.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Palm Beach County for all their help and support.
By June's request, there will be no visitation or services.
She will be buried in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.

Mary Holmquist
HOLLAND - Mary Elizabeth (Ehlers) Holmquist, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.
She was born on May 19, 1939, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Henry and Olive (Meyers) Ehlers.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Kingsford until just last year when she moved to Holland, lower Michigan, to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters.
She worked for many years at the Roma Restaurant, Warehouse Foods, as a bus driver for Breitung Township Schools and various other jobs. She had a great love for family and friends and a strong faith in the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Holmquist; a daughter, Rebecca Holmquist; two granddaughters; two brothers, Henry Ehlers of Niagara, Wis. and Pat (Bernadette) Ehlers of Milwaukee; three sisters, Margaret (Robert) Wallace of Hallowell, Maine, Catherine Cristanelli of Hallettsville, Texas, and Evelyn (Ray) Yaggie of Quinnesec; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Tom Ehlers.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate. A reception will follow the service.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or to Mary's family.
Heart disease is the number one killer among women and only one in five is properly diagnosed. Please be aware of the early signs of heart disease.
The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dorothy Lewis
KINGSFORD - Dorothy S. Lewis, 95, of Evergreen Apartments in Kingsford, formerly of 800 W. Brown St. in Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Jan 25, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services following a brief illness.
She was born June 19, 1910, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, daughter of the late Paul and Inga (Miller) Schultze. Dorothy graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended Iowa State University.
She married William H. Lewis on July 9, 1933, and they enjoyed more than 57 wonderful years of marriage. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1991.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She was a charter member of the Chippewa Club and a past member of Pine Grove Country Club. Dorothy served on the Iron Mountain School Board from 1961-1965. She enjoyed her bridge and study clubs, her gin rummy group, crossword puzzles, and she was an avid reader.
Following her son, Bud's skiing accident, she became a strong advocate for individuals who suffered brain and physical disabilities. Dorothy was always very appreciative of the many people in the community who helped 'pattern' Bud. Many of the friendships she and the Lewis family developed within the community originated from all of those wonderful volunteers.
She is survived by two sons, Peter M. (Cristie) Lewis of Plymouth, Minn. and Stephen E. (Kathryn) Lewis of Kingsford; four grandchildren, Pamela (Randall) Veeneman of Breckenridge, Colo., Benjamin H. Lewis and Gabriel P. Lewis, both of Iron Mountain and Adam E. Lewis of Kingsford and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Thomas Veeneman.
She was also preceded in death by one son, William H. 'Bud' Lewis Jr. and by six older sisters.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin, Gabriel, and Adam Lewis, Paul and Albert Santoni, and Tom Beatty.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trico Opportunities Inc. in Kingsford.
