Dale Carlson
KINGSFORD - Dale J. Carlson, 77, 333 Lawrence St., Kingsford, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Hanover, N.M., son of the late Victor and Ada (Halstad) Carlson-Olsen.
Dale graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and he was an avid sportsman.
He married Elvira Jouppi on March 22, 1958, at the First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira; one son, John (Zaneta) Carlson of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Cheryl Shimun of Kingsford and Vivian (Bruce) Hively of Encino, Calif.; five grandchildren, Steven (Zeynep) Carlson, Lisa Carlson, Paul (Brandi) Shimun, Adam Shimun, and Mariah Shandra.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Pastor Chad Ott will officiate. The American Legion will conduct military rites following the services.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dale's memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Kingsford Funeral Home of Kingsford with the arrangements.

Edward Kukuk
IRON MOUNTAIN - Edward H. Kukuk, 79, of 1114 Houghteling St., Iron
Mountain, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, after fighting a courageous battle of heart disease and cancer, with the prayers of many faiths.
Ed was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Marquette, the son of the late Edward Sr. and Martha (Bohlman) Kukuk. Ed was a graduate of Marquette Graveraet High School in 1943. He participated in many sports including playing semi-pro hockey in the Michigan Ontario League.
While in the Naval Air Corp, he attended the University of Notre Dame and the University of North Carolina. Ed received his bachelor of science degree from Northern Michigan University and his master's degree from the University of Michigan.
In 1948, he married the former Geraldine Beaudry in Marquette. He was employed by the Stambaugh Public School System from 1948-1965. He taught health, physical education, science, and industrial arts for eight years and was the principal of the high school for nine years. While at Stambaugh High School, he coached varsity basketball and tennis, and was assistant coach of the football team under Willard Anderson. Ed was employed by the Iron Mountain Public Schools from 1965-1980. He spent three years as the high school principal and 12 years as the superintendent.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Iron River and then the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. He served on both church councils and sang in the church choir for more than 50 years. He served on many school-related committees and was a member of several community organizations. He received the NMU Distinguished Alumni Award, was an NMU and U.P. Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, and was an active member of the NMU Alumni Executive Committee for 29 years.
Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed spending time at camp, and camping with his family at Golden Lake.
Ed is survived by his wife, Geraldine 'Gerry;' his daughter, Julie (Ron) Tass of Iron Mountain; a brother, Norman 'Boots' (Grace) Kukuk of Marquette and Florida; three grandchildren, Brian (Anne) Tass of Novi, lower Michigan, Michelle (Tom) Phelps of Kingsford, and Steven Tass of East Lansing; a special brother-in-law, Mike Quilliam; and nine nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Iron Mountain.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory to First Lutheran Church and the Iron Mountain Schools.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

LaVerne Anderson
AURORA, Wis. - LaVerne L. Anderson, 82, of 1930 Grandview Drive, Aurora, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
LaVerne was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Roy and Gertrude (Basche) Grimord. She was a 1940 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and attended Dundons Business College.
She worked for several years at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee.
LaVerne married Benjamin Anderson on Feb. 14, 1946, at Homestead Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker on the family farm in Homestead. From 1965-72, she was employed by the Northeast Wisconsin Community Action Agency. She helped bring several community housing projects to northern Wisconsin.
LaVerne was a member of the Homestead Baptist Church where she was involved with the Ladies Aid and later the Women's Missions. She also served many years as the church treasurer and Sunday School superintendent.
She served several years on the Florence County Board of Education.
She was kind, often reaching out to help others.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Benjamin; two sons, Ken (Lynda) Anderson of Manitowoc, Wis., and James (Christine) Anderson of Kingsford; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Grimord of Brookfield, Wis.; son-in-law, Vaughn Francar of Hobart, Wis.; grandchildren Scott Francar of Green Bay, Wis., Kevin (Yvonne) Plekan of Appleton, Wis., Neil Plekan of Manitowoc, Joe Supa of East Kingsford, April Supa and Jacob Supa, both of Kingsford; great-grandchildren Daniel, Sara, Stephen, Stella, Sean, Emma, Zachary, Molly and Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Francar, in 1998, and her brother, Richard Grimord, in 2003.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Homestead Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday at the church. Rev. Brad Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Mary Runsat
IRON MOUNTAIN - Mary E. Runsat of Iron Mountain passed away on Jan. 3, 2006, at the age of 65.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1940, in Amery, Wis., daughter of the late James and Regina Roland. She grew up in Clayton Wis. and after graduation from high school, moved to Minneapolis.
She eventually would call Milwaukee home, where she met her husband Ken 'Page, ' and married on June 26, 1964. While living in Milwaukee she and her husband became avid sailors and would eventually become involved in sail boat racing. Her love of racing would consume her from spring to fall and take her to several locations around the Great Lakes and Massachusetts.
She was a lifelong member of South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee, where she would make many lifelong friends. She and her husband once traveled to San Diego as spectators for the America's Cup yacht race. She was also an avid sports fan who loved the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers. She always made time for her children, whether it was taking them to a ball game or just throwing a ball in the yard.
In August 1981, Mary and her family moved from Milwaukee to Iron Mountain where she worked as a legal secretary and office manager at the law office of Mouw & Celello until her retirement in 1999. Upon retirement, she and her husband began traveling around the country in an RV during the winter months, and spending time with her grandchildren during the summer months.
She is survived by a husband, Ken 'Page' Runsat; two sons, James (Lori) Runsat and Knute (Alissa) Runsat; a daughter, Kathryn (Jamie) Ellis; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Corey Runsat, Hailey and Hanna Ellis, Annslee and Ezekiel Runsat, and Gavin and Reighan Johnson; two brothers, Gene (Carol) Roland of Spring Valley Wis. and James (Sharon) Roland of White Bear Lake Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Regina (Backes) Roland, and her father, James Roland.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will officiate.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Albert Patrick
KINGSFORD - Albert L. "Chick" Patrick, 78, of 205 N. Hyland St. in East Kingsford, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1927, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Henry and Grace (Thomas) Patrick.
He was a lifelong resident of Kingsford. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Chick worked for Kingsford Chemical prior to working at Khoury's for 26 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed going to his camp on Witch Lake, the Camp One Cabins, to go fishing. He also enjoyed hunting, bird watching, making venison sausage, and spending time with his dog, Sassy.
Chick married the former Darlene Davis on April 12, 1958, in Iron Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two daughters, Debbie Kallenbach of Niagara, Wis. and Tina (Tom Clayton) Williams of Aurora, Wis.; one sister, Ivey Jackomino of Florence, Wis.; six grandchildren, Brad Kallenbach, Nicole (Kevin) Wilson, Jason Kallenbach, Noah Williams, Jacob Williams, and Samantha Williams; a great-grandson, Dustin Williams and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Leslie Patrick and one sister, Leona Cunard.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50.
Chick's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carolyn J. Gould
FLORENCE, Wis. - On Jan. 1, 2006, Carolyn J. Gould, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and to be reunited with many loved ones who have gone on before her. Her family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Florence Villa Nursing Center for their part in making the last four years of her life as comfortable and fulfilled as possible through their diligent, compassionate care.
Carolyn, first born of Oscar and Jennie Peterson, was born on March 10, 1914. Her sister, Margaret joined the family two years later. In 1921, the Petersons moved to Aurora, Wis., where Carolyn's brother, Bob and sisters, June and Nancy were born. Caring for the needs of her family were always Carolyn's foremost concern, so when she was 19 she moved to Winnetka, Ill., to work and help out the family. While there, she met Frank Gould. They were married May 4, 1937. Their marriage of 61 years resulted in many happy memories including the birth of their three children, Frank, Janice and Marcy.
Carolyn served the Lord in many ways. She was a wonderful homemaker, always making sure the needs for her family were met. She was a faithful member of the Winnetka Bible Church and after moving to Kingsford in 1990, she attended the Aurora Free Church and later the Homestead Baptist Church. She also attended weekly services at the Florence Villa. Over the years, her quiet ways of giving and encouraging others touched many lives and she will be greatly missed.
She leaves behind many who loved her dearly, including her dear sister, Nancy (Robert) Norris of Aurora, Wis.; a son, Frank (Karen) Gould of Annapolis, Md.; two daughters, Janice Gould of Kingsford and Marcy (Mark) Newell of Aurora; five grandchildren, Lisa (John) Binford, Brian (Ginger) Gould, Stephen (Kathryn) Gould, Dixie (Michael) Youngs and Scott (Jeanette) Newell; 12 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Adam, Christopher, John, Rebecca, Jack, Sarah, Brandon, Kyle, Mark, Benjamin, and Jackson; sister-in-law, Doris (Robert) Schneider of Elgin, Ill.; sister-in-law, Miriam Peterson of Rice Lake, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Homestead Baptist Church, located on Highway N in Homestead, Wis.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bradley Moore.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
Carolyn had a heart for missions and helped many missionaries over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Missions Fund of the Homestead Baptist Church.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Doris Blanchard
IRON MOUNTAIN - Doris Lillian (Smeester) Blanchard, 64, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, following a lengthy battle against heart disease.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Doris lived in Brooklyn until the age of six, before moving to Goodman, Wis. She also spent many years in Iron Mountain, before moving to Sarasota, Fla. where she worked as a nurse's aide. Doris truly loved living in Sarasota and spending time on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico, fishing and collecting shark's teeth.
Doris also enjoyed playing and listening to music, working on the computer, knitting, and bowling.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jack Blanchard; five children, William Smeester Jr. of Niagara, Julia Peterson of Kingsford, Lynne (Terry) Reed of Breitung Township, Brian (Lorie) Smeester of Kingsford, and J. Michael (Tara) Smeester of Iron Mountain; her father, Howard Viens of Goodman; a brother, George (Judy) Viens of New Franken, Wis.; two sisters, Carol Stec of Armstrong Creek, Wis. and Eleanor (Ron) Robinson of Sheboygan, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Kris Degenaer, Blaine Smeester, Pamela Ann and Robert Peterson, Johnathon Reed, Storm, Summer, and Jack Smeester and Tayler Smeester; five great-grandchildren, Izaac Degenear, William Smeester, Aaron and Amber Butterfield, and Elijah Reed; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Viens of Goodman and her father, Albert Munroe of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Jason and Melissa Reed, Jordena Maria Nowikoski and Alaina Smeester; and one brother, John Viens.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
