Jeanette Fortner
IRON MOUNTAIN - Jeanette Fortner, 82, of 301 Madison Ave., Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
Jeanette was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Concetta (Rainaldi) Pietrantonio. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1942 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Following high school, Jeanette was a nanny for the Verette family in Virginia. For four years during World War II, she was a stenographer at the Pentagon Building.
Jeanette married Vincent 'Jim' Pezzullo on May 12, 1946, in New York. He preceded her in death in 1962.
On July 23, 1963, Jeanette married John 'Jock' Fortner and he preceded her in death in 1993. Jeanette was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed cooking for her family, card club, playing bingo and bus trips to the casino.
Jeanette is survived by four children, James (Carol) Pezzullo of Kingsford, Kathleen Pezzullo of Kingsford, Gregory Pezzullo of Iron Mountain and Lisa (Michael) Reibsome of Holt, lower Michigan; a sister, Nancy (Harry) Culver of Iron Mountain; 11 grandchildren, Missi, Carrie and Jimmy Pezzullo; Jim, Ryan (Amy) and Michael Hagerty; Angela and Amanda Pezzullo; Christine Rice; and Rebecca and Jonah Reibsome; eight great-grandchildren, Krysta, Kaitlyn and Keirra Igo and Olivia, Alex, Austin, Cailin, and Liam Hagerty, four sisters-in-law, Shirley Pietrantonio of Kingsford, Millie Pezzullo of Florida, Karen (Joe) Fortner of Iron Mountain and Joan Fortner of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael in 1968, an infant son, Jeffery, a sister, Lucille, a brother, John and a great-granddaughter, Karly Pezzullo-Igo.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
A memorial mass will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Jeanette's grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jeanette Fortner family c/o Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.

Ralph Negro
IRON MOUNTAIN - Ralph D. "Sparky" Negro, 85, of 1000 East E St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Manorcare Health Services in Kingsford.
He was born Dec.17, 1920, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Domenic and Victoria (Rubbo) Negro. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1939 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Sparky was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving 27 months in Europe and obtaining the rank of corporal.
Sparky married Carol Fornetti on April 10, 1948, in Iron Mountain.
He was an electrician and worked for several local contractors in the area, including M. J. Electric and Paul Electric, where he had worked for more than 20 years. Sparky retired in 1983. He was later employed as the Dickinson County Electrical Inspector. He was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church, Local 219 IBEW, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the Dickinson County Pilots Association, and a former member of the American Legion Post 50. Sparky also served on the council of the Crystal Lake Senior Citizen Center. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family at their cottage on Lake Elwood. He was extremely handy and could fix or build just about anything.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son, Michael (Lois) Negro of Neenah, Wis.; a daughter, Joanne (Larry) Lindholm of Quinnesec; a sister-in-law, Joyce Micensky of Escanaba; a brother-in-law, Rodney (Kathy) Fornetti of Madison, Wis.; and seven grandchildren, Jonathon, Ryan, Jennifer and Angela Negro; Kim, Eric, and Kevin Lindholm.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence, in 1993.
Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
A memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Arlene Harrison
KINGSFORD - Arlene R. Harrison, 52, of 328 Chestnut St. Kingsford, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Aug. 27, 1953, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Kickbusch) Harrison. Arlene has been a resident of Kingsford for the past three years. She graduated from Northern Michigan Universary with a degree in social work.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with her son, Jesse.
She is survived by one son, Jesse at home; one sister, Iris (Pete) Dalberto of Kingsford; one brother, Dan Harrison of New London, Conn. and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Central time) at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Thomas Blomberg will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Edythe Willet
KINGSFORD - Edythe Marguerite Willet, 91, of Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1914, in Wexford County, daughter of the late George and Olive (Bower) Willet. Edythe was raised in Kingsford, graduating from Kingsford High School in 1930 at the age of 15.
After completion of studies at both Ferris State University and Northwestern University, she was employed at Montgomery Wards in Iron Mountain and Menominee. She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 serving as a first lieutenant for 15 months in England as commander of WAC detachment, being honorably discharged in 1946.
She worked at the Hines Veterans Hospital in Chicago from 1946 to 1950. From 1950 to 1977, she owned and operated 'Edythe's Shops' in both Maywood, Ill. and Three Rivers, lower Michigan. Upon retirement she lived in both Mesa, Ariz. and her beloved U.P. of Michigan.
Edythe was very active in BPW (Business and Professional Women) in both Illinois and Michigan, and Women of the ELCA. Edythe was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz., and was also a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Edythe is survived by a sister, Wilda O'Connell of Niagara, Wis.; a brother, Frank Willet of Carrollton, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews including Susan (Ron) Weide of Channing, Kathleen O'Connell of Niagara and Edward O'Connell of Quinnesec.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Clara (Lavern) Owen and brothers, George Duard Willet, Gerald Willet, and Loris 'Shorty' Willet.
Visitation will be on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Jean Combs
DUNBAR, Wis. - Jean M. Combs, 81, of N17577 Lily Lake Road in Dunbar, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on April 24, 1925, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Campbell) Maysian.
Jean lived in Racine most of her life, before moving to Dunbar five years ago. She graduated from William Horlick High School in Racine and was the manager of a dry cleaners in Racine. She enjoyed crocheting and playing the organ. She was an excellent cook. Jean was a longtime member of T.O.P.S. and became a K.O.P.
She married Frederick Combs on July 7, 1945, in Racine. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2006.
Jean is survived by her son, Fred 'Tom' (Ellyn) Combs; five sisters, Zarta Canter of Racine, Abbie Jackson of Torrence, Calif., Helen (Don) Kraus, Mary Sys, and Joyce Cook, all of Racine; two grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Combs of Racine, and Tracy (Susan) Combs of Delafield, Wis.; a great-grandson, Logan Combs of Delafield, Wis. and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. at the Northwoods Chapel in Pembine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Rev. Fred Barribeau will officiate.
Burial will be in the Dunbar cemetery.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

George Best
IRON MOUNTAIN - George L. Best, 96, of 1213 Stockbridge Ave. in Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Freeman Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1909, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Edward and Alberta (Rule) Best.
He was a lifelong resident and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1929. George learned his printing trade at Iron Mountain High School and started Best's Printing Service in 1928. He retired in 1994 after 66 years in business.
George married Winifred Strong on June 14, 1934, and they have enjoyed 72 years of marriage together.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as lay pastor and elder for many years.
George joined the Kiwanis Club in 1937 and had served as local president several times and was the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan publicity chairman. He received the Legion of Honor Award for 60 years as a member, 38 years with perfect attendance. George was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Independent Order of Oddfellows, the Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts, and the local Republican Party. George was very active in his church and the community.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred; three children, Rev. Albert (Bonnie) Best of Duluth, Minn., Nancy Swee of Iron Mountain, Carol (John) Best of Petoskey, lower Michigan; one sister, Lorraine Fontecchio of Iron Mountain; six grandchildren, Erik, Derik, and Bjorn Swee, Sonja Brightwell, and David and Jason Best; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Lucas, and Alexandria Brightwell, and Tyler Best.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dinah Lou Best; his son-in-law, Verlyn Swee; and five brothers, Albert, Harold, Edwin, Archie, and Orville Best.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March and Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be at cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

Doris Rodman
KINGSFORD - Doris M. Rodman, 84, of Kingsford died peacefully at home with her family and hospice on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, in Tucson, Ariz.
She was a long time resident of the Kingsford area.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1921, in Goodman, Wis., daughter of the late Louis and Lela (Champagne) Viens. Doris graduated from Iron Mountain High School.
She married Matt Rodman at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford on Sept. 6, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Doris worked for the Miller Insurance Agency in Iron Mountain. She was a long time member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, and a member of the ladies guild for many years, she was a volunteer worker for the church. She moved from Kingsford to Texas in 2002, and in 2004, she moved to a retirement community in Tucson with her son and daughter-in-law. While in Texas, she volunteered at Christian Services. In Arizona, Doris enjoyed playing cards at the activity center, volunteering with the activities committee, cross stitching, keeping in touch with her friends by e-mail, and trips to the casino.
She is survived by a son, Matt (Janet) Rodman of Tucson and a granddaughter, Cheryl Wilcox of Hamilton Lakes.
Doris was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.
The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
