Mary Ann Capra
IRON MOUNTAIN - Mary Ann Capra, 75, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, after a long illness.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1930, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late John T. and Ann Spencer. Mary Ann was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School in 1948 and attended Albion College. She then entered nurses training at Northwestern University in Chicago and graduated in 1953. She married Lawrence A. Capra on Aug. 22, 1953, and immediately moved to Ann Arbor, lower Michigan where her husband finished his education at the University of Michigan. They moved to Grand Rapids in 1956 and returned to Iron Mountain in 1960.
Mary Ann was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Friday-Thursday Study Club, and was very active in the Memorial Hospital League workshop.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Larry; a son, Mark (Rosann) of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Melissa (John) Ehren of Lake Oswego, Ore.; two grandchildren, Melinda and Ross Ehren; a brother, John T. Spencer of San Francisco; two nieces, Mary Ellen and Betsy; one nephew, John Spencer; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
There will be private family services.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Springlake Humane Society.
The Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Donald J. Rock
IRON MOUNTAIN - Donald J. Rock, 93, of 810 River Ave. in Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Don was born September 28, 1913, in Winnepeg, Canada, son of the late Elizabeth (Green) and Albert J. Rock. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1932. Don later attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1937.
On Jan. 24, 1938, he married the former Ada Bartoletti at the Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain. They celebrated their 68th anniversary this past January.
Donald was a hard-working man all his life with true grit. He was in partnership with the Ellingboe Funeral Home of Crystal Falls and owned his own grocery store, Rock's Grocery in Iron Mountain for 12 years.
Don also was employed by the Ford Motor Co. and retired from Cleveland Cliffs Inc. after 23 years.
Donald loved reading, hunting, and fishing in his spare time, but best of all just going to camp. He always was ready to lend a hand to anyone needing help. He will be missed by all.
In addition to his wife, Ada, he leaves a daughter, Barbara DeClark of Aurora, Wis.; four sons, James (Mary) of Kingsford, Duane (Vicky) of Norway, David (Julie) of Iron Mountain, and Albert (Deborah) of Green Bay, Wis., one sister, Leah Putzi of Lady Lake, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert; several sisters and brothers-in- law; and two very special friends, Wilbert and Carmie Kleinschmidt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Gloria T. Soderberg
KINGSFORD - Gloria T. Soderberg, 80, of 381 Cass Ave. in Kingsford, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at her home.
Gloria was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Rufus and Teresa (Ciochetto) Massie. She graduated from Quinnesec High School in 1944 and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Gloria married Calvin 'sody' Soderberg on Oct. 23, 1948, in Loretto. She worked for the Army Air Corp during World War II as a stenographer in Detroit. Gloria also worked for Montgomery Wards in Iron Mountain for eight years and was an office employee at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for 20 years.
She was a member of TOPS, the Hospital Luncheon Club and St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Gloria enjoyed gardening and working in the yard in the summer and cooking and baking in the winter.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Calvin; two sons, Michael Soderberg of Ishpeming and Joel (Becky) Soderberg of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Joseph (Gloria) Massie and Philip (Janet) Massie, both of Quinnesec; an aunt, Mary Ciochetto of Iron Mountain; a grandson, Marc Soderberg; four granddaughters, Amanda, Lindsey, Kristen and Chloe Soderberg; one great-grandson, Ayden; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Sharon A. Freeberg
HOMESTEAD, Wis. - Sharon A. Freeberg, 67, of Homestead, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1939, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Leonard and Lottie (Davis) Wood. She attended Kingsford schools before moving to Detroit as a young child. Upon her return to Kingsford, she worked as a waitress and bartender.
She married Gary Freeberg on June 19, 1965, and together they resided in this area for a brief time before moving to the Fox Valley area. She then devoted her time to being a housewife and mother. After about 20 years in the Valley, they returned to this area and have resided in Homestead since 1988.
Sharon was a very loving and caring individual and never forgot anyone's birthday or anniversary. She loved making floral arrangements and decorating her home for all seasons and holidays. Reading and working in her flower beds was a major passion to Sharon. She loved watching the birds and animals in her backyard and collected hummingbird figurines and sun catchers.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Gary; a brother, Clark (Patricia) Wood of Deltona, Fla.; a sister, Helen Marheine of Kimberly, Wis.; her in-laws, Vance (Frances) Freeberg of Homestead and Ernest (Kim) Freeberg of Iron Mountain, Patricia Wood and Marilyn Wood of Iron Mountain, Vivian Wood of Spread Eagle, Wis., Joseph Groleau of Iron Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donya Joyce Dobinski; brothers, Lyle, Marvin, and Floyd Wood; sisters, Delores Trulock and Joyce Groleau; in-laws, Karl and Ardith Freeberg; and brothers-in-laws, Larry Marheine and John Trulock.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Kingsford Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

George A. "Chum" LaPointe
QUINNESEC - George A. "Chum" LaPointe, 57, of 1213 Ledge St. in Quinnesec, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at his home.
Chum was born June 25, 1947, in Iron Mountain, son of the late George B. and Zenaide A. (Bastian) LaPointe.
He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1965 and was a lifelong resident of the area. He obtained his master's degree in education from Northern Michigan University.
He taught English at Kingsford Junior High and High School for a total of 33 years, retiring in 2002. He also taught for Bay College West Campus for 10 years. Chum truly loved his teaching and coaching career at Kingsford and was very involved with the school. His love of teaching encouraged his daughters to pursue degrees in education also. He coached sports in all of his years at Kingsford which included freshman football, wrestling, soccer, and Babe Ruth and Little League baseball.
Chum loved reading and was a great story teller. His favorite listeners were his grandchildren. He was a former member of the Beagle Club. He instilled the love of fishing and hunting in all of his children. One of his favorite pastimes was watching sports of any kind, but he really cheered for the Packers and the Tigers. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and boating with his wife and best friend, Elizabeth.
The warm and caring person Chum was made everyone feel at ease. He was very approachable to friends, family, students and fellow teachers. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Chum is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three children, Cheri LaPointe (fiance, Dennis) of Marquette, Nicole (Joe) Gasper of Newaygo, lower Michigan and Paul J. LaPointe of Germany; three stepchildren, Tim (Marlene) Daniels of Mosinee, Wis., Kathleen (Steve) Wiese of Moline, Ill. and Theo J. Daniels of Roseville, Calif.; a sister, LoAnne (Gerald) Smith of Bolingbrook, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Naya and Elli Gasper, Kelcey and Bridget Daniels, Mikayla, Abby, Audrey and Maggie Wiese, Kristen and Allison Stafford and Courtney Kalisch; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, J.J. Smith and a step-grandson, Aaron Kalisch .
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Parish prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.
The family has entrusted the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Eugene D. Larrabee
PEMBINE, Wis. - Eugene D. Larrabee, 89, of Pembine died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on April 4, 1917, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of the late Raymond and Hazel (DeRaad) Larrabee.
Eugene served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 in the European Theater. He worked for 32 years at GAF (ISP) in Pembine as an electrician and maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the American Legion James Delaney Post. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He served on the committee that organized the Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Rescue Squad in 1965. He was an active member for 25 years. He also served on the Pembine Volunteer Fire Department.
He married Veronica "Onie" Goss on June 21, 1941, in New Hampton, Iowa. The couple enjoyed 65 years of marriage.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Veronica; his children, Patricia Krueger of Pembine, Lorraine Martin of Menominee, Harold Larrabee of Peshtigo, Wis. and Eugene "Gene" (Jennifer) Larrabee of Marinette, Wis.; a sister, Margaret Ettleson of DesPlaines, Ill., 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Verla.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church. Father Paul Koszarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Pembine cemetery.
The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vivian V. Tremain
IRON MOUNTAIN - Vivian V. Tremain, 89, of 601 Marquette Blvd. Kingsford, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born December 2, 1917, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Urban) Janeshek and was a lifelong resident of the area. She married Roland Tremain on June 13, 1936, at First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on Feb.1, 2005.
Vivian worked in accounts receivable and circulation for the Iron Mountain Daily News for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Vivian enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with family.
Vivian is survived by two daughters, Virginia West of Kingsford and Shelley (Robert) Petrick of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Rosemary Gayan and Joyce (Norman) Shewmaker, both of Kingsford; two sisters-in-law, Ivy Lee of Iron Mountain and Joyce Janeshek of Kingsford; two grandchildren, Jennifer Petrick of Minnesota and Robert Petrick Jr. of Iron Mountain and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Lynn Tremain; two brothers, Frank and Gerald Janeshek; two sisters, Marion Hurych and Doris LaDuron; and a son-in-law, Neil E. West.
Visitation will be held on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
