Louis "Lorny" Feak, Sr.
SAGOLA - Louis 'Lorny' Feak Sr., 81, of Sagola, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Iron County Community Hospital in Iron River.
He was a resident of Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls since July 2005. He made many friends there and will be missed.
Lorny was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Menominee, son of the late Leonard and Mae (Netzer) Feak. He graduated from Channing High School in February 1944 to join the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class to serve in World War II.
Upon his discharge in 1946, Lorny settled in Chicago where he met and married Elizabeth 'Betty' Bain on Nov. 11, 1950. In 1966, Lorny moved his family to the Channing/Sagola area. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 168.
Lorny retired from Hanna Mining Co. in 1980 and became an avid hunter and fisherman. Both Lorny and Betty's enjoyment included their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and bird watching outside their home.
Lorny is survived by three daughters, Connie (Mike) Kuzak of Marquette, Teri (Bob) Berg of Channing, and Donna (Mike) Cline of Lillington, N.C.; a son, Louis 'Butch' Feak (fiance, Jean Takala) of Crystal Falls; a brother, Donald (Rose) Feak of Addison, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Rutland of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Richard (Juliet) Kuzak, Lynnea Kuzak, Cheryl Kuzak (David Churack), Stephen (Chastity) Alexa, Angie (John) Mattson, Matthew Cline and Kim and Andrew Spigarelli; and five great-grand children, Maxwell Churack, Austin and Masyn Alexa, and Ricki and Sophie Mattson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in August 2004; his brother, Charles Feak and a sister, Shirley Turney.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Central time) at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
Memorial services will follow at 12:30 p.m. (Central time) at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family will make donations to the Iron County Medical Care Facility Auxiliary.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Andrew J. Papp, M.D.
IRON MOUNTAIN - Andrew J. Papp, M.D. of Iron Mountain, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 30, 2007.
Dr. Papp, 83, was born in Revere, Mass., the son of Joseph and Sophie (Kassay) Papp.
Dr. Papp had been a roofer and sheet metal worker prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the Army Air Corps, applied for pilot training, became a commissioned officer and an Army Air Corps pilot.
Following discharge from the service, he with several brothers, owned and operated a roofing and sheet metal construction company until he decided to further his education.
He married the former Barbara I. Platt in August, 1948, entered Tufts College in Medford, Mass. and graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1956. Dr. Papp served his internship at the Long Beach, Calif. Veterans Hospital, and his specialty training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Following private practice in San Diego, he returned to the Long Beach Veterans Hospital as chief of the Non-Tuberculous Pulmonary Disease Section. He was later transferred to the Reno, Nev. Veterans Hospital as chief of medicine, and in 1976 came to the Iron Mountain Veterans Hospital as chief of the medical service and later promoted to chief of staff until he retired in 1991.
Academic appointments include clinical instructor of medicine, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles; clinical instructor of medicine, University of Utah School of Medicine, Salt Lake City, Utah; and clinical associate professor of medicine, University of Nevada School of Medical Sciences, Reno.
He has been a member of several professional organizations, past president of the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Serra Club, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, Dr. Charles (Christine) Papp and Michael (Amy) Papp of Iron Mountain, Andrew (Mary) Papp Jr. of Lorena, Texas; daughters, Barbara (Rodney) Hirte of Aurora, Wis., Kathleen (George) Walden of Reno; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Janet) Papp of LaMesa, Calif.; sisters, Arlene Bench and Alice Helm of San Diego, and many nieces and nephews.
Dr. Papp was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Harry, James, Charles, Joseph and Edward Papp
Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.
Burial will take place in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.
Dr. PappĀ's grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Tom Bray, Bob Bray, Scott Bray, Cody Bray, Micheal Papp and Steven Papp.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign would be appreciated.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

John R. Dahlgren
IRON MOUNTAIN - John R. Dahlgren, 78, of White Birch Village, died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 17, 1929, in Alpha, the son of the late Carl and Edith (Carlson) Dahlgren.
In his younger years, John sailed the ore boats on the Great Lakes and worked on the Alcan Highway in Alaska. John worked construction for most of his life. He served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.
John married Betty Carlson in Kingsford on Jan. 3, 1959.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was also an avid sports fan and Packer Fan.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Scott Dahlgren of Granite Bluff, Dan Dahlgren of Iron Mountain, and Debbie (Perry) Tompkins of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Lola Dahlgren, and Jessica, Ashley, and Cody Tompkins; many nieces and nephews, and his favorite cat Rosie.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ted Dahlgren.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Gertrude E. Bergstrom
IRON MOUNTAIN - Gertrude E. Bergstrom, 94, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Hyland Nursing Home.
Gertrude was born on Sept. 17, 1912, in Iron Mountain. She was the daughter of the late Fred T. and Signe (Lindquist) Hord.
Gertrude married Claus Bergstrom in August of 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1954.
She retired after working several years as a cook at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Norway. She was an excellent cook and baker. Gertrude attended First Covenant Church. She loved her nieces and nephews.
Gertrude is survived by a brother, Donald Hord of Lake Geneva, Wis.; two sisters, Dorothy (Albert) Stenfors and Elvira Rouse of Iron Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Wilbert, Harold and Willard Hord,
Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate
Burial will be in the Aurora cemetery.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Kathryn Ellingson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Kathryn Ellingson, 88, of Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on Oct. 19, 1918, in Norway, daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn (McRae) Engibous.
She married John Ellingson on Oct. 7, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1996.
She worked in the editorial department for Star Publishing in Chicago Heights, Ill. before retiring.
She was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pine Grove Country Club, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club, and the Dickinson County Hospital League. She enjoyed playing bridge.
Kathryn is survived by a son, David Ellingson of California; a daughter, Anne (Don) Lanman of Champaign, Ill.; grandchildren, Abigail (Aaron) Gerard, Courtney and Jessica Lanman and Guillette Ellingson; great-grandchildren, Zoey and Violet Gerard; brothers, James (Emma) Engibous of Pullman, Wash., and David (Jean) Engibous of New Philadelphia, Ohio; sisters, Mary Couch of Victorian Pines in Iron Mountain, Margaret (Reginald) Pellegrini of Norway, Alice Engibous of Ann Arbor, lower Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Engibous.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date and will be announced.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

M. Audrey Tachick
IRON MOUNTAIN - Audrey Tachick, 89, of Iron Mountain, died in faith on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. She had been in declining health.
Audrey was born on Feb. 13, 1918, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Payne) Dawson.
Audrey had been a longtime active member of the Iron Mountain First Covenant Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; a son, Dennis Gordon; a daughter Carol Mowbray; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
Her gentle and generous spirit will be missed by a host of family and friends.
Viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Larry Neargarth will officiate.
Burial will be in the Pound cemetery.
The Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Lillian I. Lahti
Iron Mountain - Dr. Lilja 'Lillian' I. Lahti, 77, a retired English teacher and resident of Iron Mountain died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 24th of natural causes, fittingly with a book by her side.
Born January 11, 1930 to Finnish immigrant parents, Sofia Emilia and Erick Wilhelm Lahti, Lillian grew up on Everton Street in Kingsford, Michigan with her two older brothers, Hugo and Oliver.
Her educational accomplishments included: High School diploma, Kingsford High School (1947); Bachelor of Arts in English, University of Michigan (1951) with minors in Botany and Education, a Provisional Teaching Certification-Secondary School (1951), and a Permanent Teaching Certification-Secondary School (1954); Masters of Arts, University of Michigan (1959); Advanced Certificate in Education, University of Illinois (1968): and a Doctor of Philosophy, University of Illinois (1972).
Lillian's professional career began as a high school teacher for grades 9-12 at Eban High School in Eban, Michigan from 1951-1954. She taught at Kingsford High School in Kingsford, Michigan from 1954-1967. Lillian then went on to become a college professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 1968-1990. She then spent a sabbatical year teaching English as a Foreign Language at Liaoning-Normal University in Dalian, China. Dr. Lillian Irene Lahti reitred in 1990 as an emeritus professor.
Throughout her retirement, Lillian continued her pursuit of knowledge reading an endless assortment of literature and writing copious notes of inspiration for future children's books, and a historical book dedicated to the Finnish immigrants of the Upper Peninsula.
Lillian was loved and will be deeply missed by her surviving family members including her sisters-in-law Maxine, wife of Hugo Lahti (deceased brother), and Clara, wife of Oliver Lahti (deceased brother) and their children Mark, Diane, Daniel, and Kathleen, spouses, nine great nephews and nieces, and three great great nieces.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Memorials may be sent in Lillian Lahti's name to the Hugo E. Lahti Memorial Fund, a teaching scholarship fund, which has been established within the UW-Whitewater Foundation.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.
