Steven Allen Linscott, 45, of Hoover, Ala. and formerly of Ludington, died Saturday, May 12 in a motorcycle accident in Alabama. He was born Sept. 10, 1961 in Ludington. Steve grew up in Ludington and graduated from Ludington High School in 1980, where he was active in football, wrestling and scuba diving. He graduated from Ohio Institute of Technology in Columbus, Ohio, Cuyahoga College in Cleveland and Koll College in Columbus. He was a former member of United Methodist Church in Ludington. Steve was employed C.B. Richard Ellis Company as regional facilities manager for three states and also director of critical facilities and in charge of Homeland Security for several banks and properties in his territory.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley Linscott of Ludington; sister, Sheryl Nelson of Pentwater; niece, Lisa (Paul) Cooper and their daughters Megan and Madeline Cooper of Ludington; nephew, Kevin (Erika) Burgess of Ludington He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, and his brother, Michael Linscott.
Steve was son, a brother, an uncle, a great-uncle and friend to many. He was larger than life in his heart and his work. All who knew him or worked with him loved him. He will be greatly missed because he was so much fun. We all want to thank Steve for all he did for everyone and for the time we had with him in our hearts.
Services for Steve will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 2007 at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James Carlson, officiant. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 20. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.

Marjorie A. Hansen, 92 of Ludington passed away on Friday at Ludington Woods Care Center. Marjorie Charon was born on March 18, 1915 in Summit Twp. and married to Alfred Hansen on July 2, 1966, he passed away in 1987. She was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church and graduated from St. Simon High School. She was a member of Court 745 Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Red Hat Society. She was an assistant Librarian at the Ludington Public Library and formerly employed by Dr. Rasmussen, DDS. Survivors include 1 sister Geraldine (Gerry) Quintero of Spring Branch, TX, a brother in law, Eddie Wikander of Muskegon, nieces and nephews, Sherry (Paul) Morrison of Santa Fe, NM, Linda (Jim) Quintero Morgan of Spring Branch, TX, Craig (Barb) Wikander of North Muskegon, Laurie (Frank) Kern of Twin Lake, several great nieces and nephews, and her very good friend Frankie Tomczak and her entire family. Marje was preceded in death in addition to her husband by sisters, Myrtle Charon, Florence (Sheri) Sullivan Vera Wikander, and brother E.J. Charon. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Simon Catholic Church. Visitation was Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Final interment will be held in Pere Marquette cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice with envelopes available at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home or the Church on Wednesday.

Mildred P. Plank, 93 of Ludington passed away Thursday morning May 10, 2007 at tbe Margaret D. Fuehring Memorial Care Center, Ocean County. Mildred Pauline Fink was born on July 8, 1913 the daughter of Jesse and Etta Millman Fink. She graduated from Alma High School and in 1936 from Central Michigan University. After her graduation from college she taught kindergarten and first grade in Grayling, MI for 2 years. She was married to Raymond A. Plank on January 6, 1938 in Wilmington, NC and the couple lived there for 2 years. They moved to Grand Rapids where they lived for 9 years while her husband was affiliated with radio stations WLAV and WFUR. In 1950 Ray & Millie bought radio station WKLA and the family moved to Ludington. In August of 1954 she took a teaching assignment with Ludington Public Schools that was going to last only 1 year. Twenty-five years later she retired from teaching. Millie was a very active member of community organizations including Women's Literary Club of Ludington, Mason County Historical Society, United Methodist Church of Ludington, Women's Society, Church Women United, and the Naomi Circle, Mason County Gardening Club, a Girl Scout Leader and was associated with the Republican Party. She was a life member of the Mason County Historical Society, the Zonta Club, the Ludington Yacht Club, the American Association of University Women. She was a former member of the Lincoln Hills Country Club. She enjoyed crocheting, creweling, gardening and reading. Most of all she cherished the times she and Ray were either flying or sailing around the country. With their airplane the couple had traveled extensively around the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. She loved going to the Ludington Oriole football, basketball and volleyball games to the extent that she had a lifetime school activities pass. She was a very kind, thoughtful and caring teacher, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Plank was preceded in death by her husband Raymond A. Plank, her father Jess Fink, mother Etta Millman Fink and sisters Bernice Amon and Laura Fink in infancy, a grandson, Kyle Tucker, and great grandson Chase Tucker. She is survived by her daughter Sandra (& Terry) Luxford of Ludington, a son Tom (& Ann) Plank of Ludington, grandchildren, Jessica (& Joel) Wagenmaker of Twin Lake, Sarah (& Jason) McNamara of Ada, Kurt (& Gale) Tucker of Gaylord, Karl (& Sara) Tucker of Grand Haven, great grandchildren, Jack Fitzpatrick McNamara, Ruby and Nora, Noah, Wyatt and Preston Tucker. Services were held Monday May 14, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Ludington with Rev. Ronald Houk officiating. Visitation was also on Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials to the Ludington Area Schools, Mildred P. Plank Scholarship Fund with envelopes available at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home or at the church on Monday. In memory of Milly, thank a teacher for their guidance.

Michael Scott Berndt, 24 of Flint and formerly of Ludington passed away Saturday May 5, 2007 in Flint. Michael was born March 18, 1983 in Ludington. He lived most his life in Ludington and moved to Lake County in 2003 and recently moved to Flint. He was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church and a graduate of Ludington High School graduating in 2002. He attended Baker College in Muskegon and received a state certificate as an EMT. He was a member of the Army Reserves assigned to Military Police Battalion from 2002-2005 and was a volunteer for Lake County Fire Department. Mike enjoyed snowboarding, swimming, camping, music, and sci-fi movies.
He was employed for Lifeline Ambulance Service of Reed City before moving to the Flint Area where he worked in the same field.
Survivors include his parents, Kelly (& Tim) Berndt of Ft. Garland, CO, 3 sisters including his twin Nichole Berndt of Muskegon, Jenna (& Nicholas Stultz) Berndt of Silverthorne, CO, and Tiffany (& Kendall) Hobbs of Ft. Bliss, TX, his grandparents, Harvey & Joanne Silver of Ludington, 1 niece, Scout Stultz, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Jeffrey Blount.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday May 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with Rev. Fr Thomas Schiller officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to the Ludington High School Band Department with envelopes available at the funeral home.

James C. Matheny, Sr., 91 of Willowbrook AFC passed away Tuesday April 17, 2007. He was a retired supervisor from the US Postal Service, Washington, DC .

Lillian M. Cloutier, 97 of Ludington passed away Thursday morning March 22, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. Lillian M. Kreh was born on April 8, 1909 in Pigeon, MI and married in 1933 to Alex A. Cloutier and he passed away in 1991. Lillian was a member of the Grace Christian Church. She graduated high school in Pigeon and attended County Normal in Merril.
Surviving Lillian M. Cloutier are 2 sons, Alex Cloutier, Jr. with whom she made her home, Robert (& Alice) Cloutier of Ludington, 1 daughter Marlene (& Chester) Davidson of Scottville, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by 1 son Vincent, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Lillian M. Cloutier were held Saturday March 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hilliard officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arlene C. Conklin, 84 of Ludington passed away Saturday afternoon January 5, 2008 at Oakview Medical Care Facility after an extended illness. Arlene C. Larson was born on June 17, 1923 in Ludington and married to William J. Conklin who preceded her in death in 1990.
Arlene was a friend of the Cornerstone Baptist Church Congregation, and a graduate of Ludington High School in 1941. She had been employed by Kroger Co. for many years and gave piano and organ lessons to many students in Ludington.
Survivors include 1 son, Jack (& Linda) Conklin of Ludington, 1 daughter Marie "Mimi" (& John) Christensen of Kentwood, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 1 brother Wesley (& Lois) Larson of Ludington, her close companion Carl Soneral of Ludington, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 daughter Sharon Conklin, parents, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Arlene C. Conklin will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with Dr. James Carlson officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 until the time of service. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.

Rosalie Ann Najdowski Mack, February 5, 1940- December 9, 2007. Rosalie, beloved and cherished wife of 46 years to Raymond Mack passed away Saturday night. She was a loving mother to children Cindy, Steve, Rhonda, Gayle and Karen. She was also a cherished sister to Carol Gutowski, Richard and Louise Najdowski, as well as Jean and Patrick Teets, not to mention a beloved grandma, great grandma, aunt and friend.
Rosalie was preceded in death by parents, John and Cecelia Najdowski, brothers David and John, sister Theresa, grandson Eric, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and in-laws.
She was happiest running her business, Raymond's Hair Fashions, playing cards with friends, golfing and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband, family and friends.
Visitation was held Monday December 10, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home where a Scripture Service was held at 5:00. Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Simon Catholic Church with Rev. Fr Wayne Wheeler the Celebrant. Memorials may be directed to a charity of choice with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Capt. John W. Meissner, 87 of Rath Ave. died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Dec. 2 at his home. He was born on August 17, 1920 in Ludington to John R. Meissner and Grace (Dolan) Meissner. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1938. He married Ruth Augustson on May 31, 1942.
After graduation he worked on the carferries in Ludington for a short time. Captain John Meissner was an 18 year old deckhand on the City of Flint when she ran aground during the Armistice Day storm. According to John, "I was 18 years old, a young husky kid. I was getting sea sick all the time. So I'd go to my dad's cabin after my watch and complain about the work and tell him I couldn't take this much more. And every time he'd say the same thing, just go to bed John and you'll be alright tomorrow. Sure enough, I goy used to it and didn't get sea sick any more and didn't mind the work either." He then began sailing the Great Lakes on the iron ore carriers. He attended Lake Carriers School in Cleveland, Ohio where he wrote for his Captain's License. He sailed the Great Lakes for over 30 years and was captain of five different freighters. During the construction of the Consumer's Power Plant in Buttersville, he sailed from Port Inland in the Upper Peninsula to Ludington carrying stone for the duration of the project. He retired from sailing the Great lakes in 1973 and purchased Castonia's Party Store on S. James St., which then became Captain John's Party Port. His son Greg joined the business and eventually purchased it from his father. After Greg purchased the store, John continued to work part time because of his love for people.
John was an active member of the community, serving on the Ludington Area School Board, volunteering his time watering petunias on Ludington Ave for many years, coaching elementary basketball, including his sons and grandsons. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of more than 65 years, Ruth; his daughters Dru Lyon of Ludington, Mary Meissner of Kalamazoo; his sons John Meissner, Jr. of Palm Springs, CA, and Greg Meissner of Ludington; 5 grandchildren; Brent (Karen) Lyon of Freesoil, Marnie (Jerome) Nickelson of Ludington, Brandon Meissner of Kalamazoo, Nathan Meissner (Amanda Tate) of Grand Rapids, and Amber Meissner of Chicago, IL; and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his only brother, Dick (Mary) Meissner of Ludington and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home on Wednesday Dec. 5 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services were held on Thursday December 6 at 11:00 AM at the St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Boehne officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Ludington Booster's Club with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Jarrett Neil Barnard of Ludington died November 29, 2007. He was born December 9, 1980 to Mary Ann Neil and Roger Barnard. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his parents, sister Sara Barnard and half-sister Hilary Barnard, all of whom survive him. Jarrett's life was blessed by the loving presence of his grandparents. His grandfather, William R. Neil, and grandparents, Harry and Ella Barnard preceded him in death. Besides his parents and sisters he is survived by his grandmother Mary Neil, who, along with Granpda Neil, helped raise him. Jarrett's best friends and honorary brothers, Bill Williams and Dewayne Williams also survive him. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Lois (Barnard) and William Lemcke and the Neil family, including his aunts and uncles, Billie & Harry Poluff, Daniel Neil, Diann and Robert Engblade, Marcia and James Schulte and many cousins.
Jarrett was nicknamed "Weez" by his many friends, who also mourn his passing. Jarrett was a kind and quiet young man with a gentle spirit. He was always willing to help a friend in any way he could. He enjoyed sports; especially running, swimming, basketball, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed being at his home watching movies or playing video games with his friends. Jarrett was a wonderful and cherished son who did everything that he could to help his mother, Mary Ann. Jarrett loved animals; his cats, Gizmo and Tommy, brought a great deal of joy and companionship to his life. Jarrett had a strong spiritual belief and he loved the Lord. He will be sadly and greatly missed by everyone that know him. Jarrett is with God- surrounded by love, light, and peace.
The family was at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home on Monday December 3 from 6-8 PM to receive friends. Visitation was also be held at the Bethany Lutheran Vhurch for a short time prior to the service on Tuesday. A service of Christian burial was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 4 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 1001 S. Madison St, Ludington with Pastor William Huether as celebrant. A luncheon followed in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be in Towns cemetery, Amber Township. Those wishing to give an expression of sympathy are asked to consider his family.

Lorraine M. Masse, 89 of Blue Springs, MO formerly of Ludington and Pasadena, MD passed away Saturday January 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs, MO.
Mrs. Masse was born February 17, 1918 in Ludington the daughter of William and Joanne (Pasinski) Pioszak. She was a Catholic by faith and a member of St. Simon Catholic Church. She was active in the Little Flower Circle Altar Society. She was also a member of the Emblem Club, Lincoln Hills Golf Club. She was employed by the Star Watch Case Co. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard L. Masse of 44 years, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include 4 daughters Mary (& James) Carmean of Blue Springs, MO, Michele (& Larry) Albrecht of Lakewood, CO, Nancy (& William) Merkle of Linthicum Heights, MD, and Ann (& John) Kingsolver of Grain valley, MO, sisters Jeanette (& Jack Greenwald)
of Ludington, and Phyllis (& Dick) Cross of Bay City, MI, 1 sister-in-law, Pat Pioszak of Lansing, MI and Marie Henke of Ludington, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held at a later date in Ludington, and memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Betty J. Engfer, 80 of Ludington passed away early Wednesday November 28, 2007 at Tendercare of Ludington after a short illness. Betty J Fisher was born September 13, 1927 in Boyne City, MI and married on April 3, 1045 in Ludington to Jack C. Engfer who survives. She lived in Ludington all her life and was a graduate of Ludington High School. She had been employed by JJ Newberry and later by Brill Manufacturing from which she retired in 1990.
Betty is survived by her husband, Jack, 4 children, Gary (& Marguerite) Engfer, Thomas (& Mary) Engfer, Connie Sides (& Rich Graczyk), and Kirk (& Diane Richards) Engfer all of Ludington, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 brother James R. (& Rosemary) Fisher of Acworth, GA, 1 sister Mary Lou Wynn of Kissimmee, FL 1 brother-in-law, Herbert (& Joanne) Engfer of Ludington, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. & Marion (Meech) Fisher, 1 infant son, 1 infant grandson, 1 sister Anna Marie Weersing. At Betty's request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place at West Michigan Crematory, Muskegon. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or Memorial Medical Home Health Care of Ludington with envelopes available at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home.
