Richard A. Kaatz, 59 of Ludington passed away at 8:28 AM Friday January 13, 2006 at home after a 1 year illness. He was born October 12, 1946 in Ludington and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Ludington High School in 1964 and a member of the Scottville Wesleyan Church. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the US Army. He had been employed by the CSX Railroad as a carman for many years until his illness forced him to retire.
Survivors of Richard A. Kaatz include his daughter Carla Janiga of Clawson, 1 brother John (& Joan) Kaatz of Ludington, 1 sister Dawn (& Robert) Lake of Scottville, 6 grandchildren, Gregory, Amanda, Joshua, Derrick, Davina, & Isabella, and a best friend and companion for life Julie Horowski.
He was preceded in death by his parents John & Lillis (Pitcher) Kaatz.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday January 17, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church with Rev. Norman Letsinger officiating. Visitation was on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bachelor cemetery.

Eleanor J. Anderson, 91 of Village Haus passed away Saturday at Oakview Medical Care Facility after a short illness. Eleanor J. Larson was born October 20, 1914 in Ludington and married to Robert Anderson, he preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Ludington. Eleanor was a devoted member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, and a graduate of Ludington High School in 1933.
Survivors include 2 brothers, John D. Larson of Ludington, Joseph H. (& Irene) Larson of Farmington Hills, MI, Robert W. (& Grace) Tuttle of Big Lake, MN who was raised by Mr. & Mrs. Anderson, and Deborah (& Noah) Dalton, Rebeca (& Brent) Anderson, & Gloria (& William) Hagstrom all of MN whom were considered Mrs. Anderson's grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Eleanor was preceded in death in addition to her husband by her sisters, Ethel Larson, Mildred Bergman, Lyla Bernson, and brother Raymond Larson.
Funeral services for Eleanor J. Anderson was held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Kurt Trucksess officiating. Visitation was on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home and again on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 until the time of service. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Missions Fund at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church with envelopes available at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home.

Anna M. Haner, 81 of Ludington passed away on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Medical Center following a short illness. Anna M. Crawford was born on July 17, 1924 in Lansing and married to Alton C. Haner, he passed away on July 13, 2004. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include 3 sons, Gary (& Sue) Haner of Linden, Kim (& Deb) Haner of Pentwater, & Thomas (& Georgiana) Haner of Fountain, 1 daughter Sarah (& David) Bailey of Manistee, 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Joyce (& LeRoy) Lindeneau, Bernice (& Chuck) Horacek, all of Ludington, and Ruth (& Al) Mussial of Chicago.
She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by 1 son, A. Craig Haner, and 1 brother Bill Crawford.
Funeral services for Anna M. Haner will be held on Monday May 15, 2006 at 12:00 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Blount officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will follow in Lakeview cemetery.

Harold F. (Lux) Sherman, 76, of Ludington died Tuesday morning, May 9 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1929 in Ludington to Arthur and Esther (Christensen) Sherman. On Oct. 29, 1955 he married Norma Jean Genter, and she survives. He was a lifelong resident of Ludington, graduating in 1947 from Ludington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He was member of the Danish Brotherhood of America, Dear Brothers Association, life member of Ludington Aerie 1354 F.O.E., past commander and life member of Edwin H. Ewing Post 76 American Legion, past commodore of Ludington Boat Club. He was employed as a letter carrier with the Ludington Post Office from 1958 until retirement in 1985 and also worked part time in the family business, Reliable Distributing.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by a son, Jay (Denise) Sherman of Ludington; a daughter, Lynn (Bob) Routley of Lansing; five grandchildren, Courtney, Meghann and Justin Sherman, and Gerielle Van Sickle and Robby Routley; three sisters-in-law, Lois Sherman, Patti and Esther Genter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Art Sherman; and brothers-in-law, Dick and Jerry Genter.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m.Wednesday May 10, 2006 at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11 at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Houk officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery with graveside services by the American Legion Post 76. Memorial contributions may be directed to Community Church.

Winifred H. Bondurant, 84, of Ludington, died Monday evening, May 1, at Oakview Medical Care Facility after an illness of one year. Winifred Marble was born Nov. 15, 1921 in Ludington. On Nov. 15, 1954 she married Hugh B. Bondurant, and he survives. Winifred and Hugh lived for many years in Flint and returned to Ludington 25 years ago. She was employed by General Motors in Flint for 28 years, retiring in 1980. She is survived by her husband; one brother, Billie (Bev) Marble of Ludington; one sister, Carol Wright of Flushing; a sister-in-law, Pat (Willard) Smith of Ludington; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A public visitation was held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. A private family service was conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. D. Douglas Niemi officiating.
Burial followed in Lakeview cemetery.

LeRoy C. Schneider, 77 of Ludington passed away Friday Night at home following a short illness. He was born August 27, 1928 in Ludington and married on March 25, 1950 to Lois Wilke who survives. He graduated from Ludington High School and was a former employer of Michigan Public and Consumers Power as a tree trimmer. Later the couple moved to Grand Rapids where he was employed as a carpenter returning to Ludington in 1969 where he was self employed. He will be sadly missed by his wife and family, 3 daughters, Linda (& Bill) Lovell of Jenison, Genevieve (& Paul) Knudsen of Ludington, Karen (& David) Sniegowski of Elk Rapids, 3 sons, Larry (& Jill) Schneider of Grandville, Michael (& Kathy) Schneider of Ludington, Brad (& Dawn) Schneider of Holland, 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Helen Laird of Ludington, Dorothy Rockfall of Ludington, Judy Hillier of FL, 1 brother Bruce Schneider of Ludington, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Louis, Kenny, and Daniel, and a sister Betty Krantz.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday May 2, at 1:00 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. Visitation was on Monday May 1, 2006 from 7-9 PM. Burial was in Summit Twp. cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate offerings to Campus Life Center for Youth, or Hospice of Michigan with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Vernita Soule, 95 of Ludington passed away Friday April 28, 2006 at Ludington Woods Living Center. Vernita was born on October 4, 1910 in Ludington to Gustav & Ida Keogler. She attended Ludington schools graduating with her class of 1928. For several years she was employed by the F.W. Woolworth Co. On March 22, 1934 she was married to Harry Soule and he passed away on December 27, 2001. For nearly 50 years, she and her husband owned and operated Soule's Landscaping and Garden Center, retiring in 1978. Vernita was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School and served on several committees.
She will be missed by her daughters, Marilyn (& Don) Thomas, Janet (& Terry) Grams, and her daughter in law Marla (& Dennis) Grams. Seven grandchildren, Julie (& Michael) Forsberg, Richard (& Vicki) Fellows, Linda Tollefson, Beth (& Steve) Bentz, Kenda (& Don) Liebetreu, Andrea (& Ben) Nielsen, and Alison (& Roger) Tominski, 9 great grandchildren, Erik (& Katie) Forsberg, Emily Forsberg, Lindsey Tollefson, Sarah Bentz, Anne Bentz, Kailyn Liebetreu, Gabriel Liebetreu, Connor Tominski, and Grace Nielsen, 1 brother, Arnold (& Elaine) Koegler, & several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Steven, her parents and son-in-law, Kenneth Schneider.
Funeral services for Vernita were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday May 2, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Boehne officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery, and the family received friends at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home on May 1, 2006 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. John's Lutheran Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Harold A. Nordine, 85, of Ludington died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, April 19, 2006 upon arrival at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1920 in Ludington. On Dec. 4, 1945 he married Bertha Lexen and she preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2004. Harold graduated from Ludington High School. He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the carpenters' union. He was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, was a former trustee, taught Sunday school and worked with the Boys' Club of the church. He enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He will also be missed by his coffee buddies. He was employed as a construction superintendent for Robert O. Nelson Construction for most of his life. After his retirement he spent time in Mexico helping to build a church. He built a chapel and dormitory at the Baptist Theological College in Cebu, Philippines where his nephew, Dennis Nordine, is the dean. He established and funded a scholarship for Filipino students in honor of his father.
He is survived by two sons, Ned Nordine and Curtis (DeAnne) Nordine, of Ludington; two grandchildren, Caleb and Kayleigh of Ludington; two sisters-in-law, Merna Nordine of Ludington and Margaret Nordine of Florida; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Russell and Kenn and two sisters, Mignonette and Ida.
Visitationwas from 6-8 p.m. Friday April 21, 2006 at Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Dr. James Carlson officiating.
Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home, or the Church on Saturday.

James R. Whitman, 78 of Ludington passed away Wednesday April 5, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born on March 6, 1928 in Ludington and married on April 15, 1950 to Beverly (Betty) Gorzynski and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2004. James was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Ludington, and a graduate of Ludington High School and Muskegon Community College. Jim was an avid hunter & fisherman and enjoyed watching his children & grandchildren in sporting events. He also loved canoeing and camping. He was employed as a tool & die maker at Star Watch Case Co., Republic Tool & Die-Outstate Tool & Die, & the C&O Marine Shop, retiring at age 62.
Survivors include his children, Diane Whitman of Chattanooga, TN, Kay (& Gary) Castonia, Fred (& Tracy) Whitman, Tom (& Linda) Whitman all of Ludington, grandchildren, Mark (& Trisha) & Tim (& Brooke) Castonia, Brian (& Jennifer), Becky, Emily, Heather, Jim, & Heidi Whitman all of Ludington, 5 great grandchildren, Devin, Trae, Trevor, Whitney, & Lacie, 1 sister Carole (& Sherman) Brown of Ludington. He will also be greatly missed by his loving family & friends.
Funeral services were held at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home on Saturday April 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Rev. B. Douglas Niemi & Rev. William Huether officiating. Visitation was on Friday April 7, 2006 from 6-8 PM. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery of Ludington. Memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church with envelopes available at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home.

Ann F. LaPeer, 97 of Ludington passed away Friday March 31, 2006 at Oakview Medical Care Facility. Ann F. Klawinski was born March 7, 1909 in Ludington and married in East Jordan to Vernil LaPeer on April 14, 1941, he preceded her in death on March 25, 1992. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and a life member of St. Stanislaus Rosary Society and had been active in many church events.
Survivors include 1 daughter Joyce (& Dennis) Howe of Ludington, 3 sons, Jerry LaPeer of Ludington, James LaPeer of Peterborough, NH, and John (& Alice) LaPeer of Las Vegas, NV, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Tony, John, & Frank, 1 sister Agnes & Marie, 1 granddaughter Dana Howe.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday April 5, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Fr Ken Schichtel the Celebrant. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home. Burial was in Pere Marquette cemetery.

Jacque Lou Gadziemski, 78 of Ludington passed away Wednesday March 29, 2006 at Tendercare of Ludington after a lengthy illness. Jacque Lou Lemire was born on April 16, 1927 in Ludington and married to Theodore F. Gadziemski who survives. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Ludington. She had been employed at the former Baywood Nursing Home for many years as a housekeeping supervisor.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Judy (& Terry) Taylor of Grand Rapids, Karen Samuels of Ludington, 1 son Ted Gadziemski of Evans, GA, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 brother Jerry Lemire of Ludington, 1 sister-in-law Dorothy Skvarla of Ludington, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter Lou Ann in January of this year, and a granddaughter Sara Gadziemski in June of 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 6 at 2:00 PM at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home with Rev. Fr Ken Schichtel officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will be in Pere Marquette cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan-Mason County with envelopes available at the funeral home.
