Mark Semrow
Mark L. Semrow, 52, of Burtchville Twp., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005 in St. Johns Hospital. Detroit.
He was born to George and Virginia Semrow on Nov. 1, 1952 in Port Huron, attended the St. Stephens schools, and graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1970.
Mark was a residential and commercial plumber for many years. He was a huge sports fan and, while growing up, he played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia A. Semrow; and his brother, David G. Semrow, both of Burtchville Twp.; his brotherinlaw, John Schmittroth of Southfield; three nieces, Sara Schmittroth and Lacy and Katie Hartman; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Semrow; and his two sisters, Jane Semrow and Linda Schmittroth.
A service in Mark's memory will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral HomeNorth, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital Chaplin will officiate.
Visitation will be in the funeral home beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 4th.
Interment will take place in Burtchville Twp. cemetery at a later time.
Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
John Coury
John J. Coury, Jr., M.D., 83, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1921 in Wheeling, West Virginia and has been a resident of the Port Huron area since 1952.
Dr. Coury married
Doris Arner on June 10, 1945 in Three Rivers, Michigan. She preceded him in death January 14, 2003.
Dr. Coury completed his undergraduate studies at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pennsylvania in 1942 and graduated from Case Western Reserve Medical School in 1945. Between 1945 and 1952 he completed his internship, surgical residency at Harper Hospital, and service as a captain in the Army Medical Corps. He then came to Port Huron in 1952 to practice with Surgical Associates until his retirement in 1991.
Dr. Coury was an active member of Port Huron and Mercy Hospitals, and he served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at both. He also was an active member and past president of the St. Clair County Medical Society, a delegate of the Michigan State Medical Society and its president in 1972, and a delegate of the American Medical Association for Michigan and the president in 1986. He was also a board member of the World Medical Association.
Dr. Coury served on the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation for Charitable Donations and was a board member of Michigan National Bank He was also a member and past president of Port Huron Golf Club. He was a parishioner of St. Edward's and St. Mary's Catholic Churches. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.
Dr. Coury died after a brief illness, with family and friends by his side.
He is survived by his daughter, Jann Coury of San Diego, California; his sons, John A. (Virginia) and Thomas A. (Marisa) Coury, M..D., both of Fort Gratiot; his grandchildren, Sarah (Darren) Shaver of Knoxville, Tennesee, Michael Coury of Brooklyn, New York, Katherine, Jack, Michela and Francesca Coury, all of Fort Gratiot; his brothers, Joseph (Dorothy) Coury of Plymouth, Indiana, Paul Coury, M.D. of Bartow, Florida and Oswald (Nancy) Coury, M.D. of Bonita Springs, Florida; his sister, Mary (Dr. Richard) Mense of Sanford, North Carolina; good friend, Mary Campbell of Port Huron; and nany nieces and nephews also survive.
Dr. Coury loved his family, his friends, and his patients, and he worked hard to do the best he could for them.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Edwards Church, Lakeport. The Rev. Thomas Esper, Senior Priest will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Bouchard, Edmond Fitzgerald, M.D., Anthony Gholz, M.D., Robert Patterson, Jack Coury and Michael Coury.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (9/15) and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (9/16) in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home.

William Rankin
William James "Bill" Rankin, 85, of Port Huron Township, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007.
Bill was born in Croswell March 13, 1922, son of the late James and Catherine (Benedict) Rankin. He moved to Port Huron in the 1940s and resided there for 65 years.
He married
the former Mary M. Carpenter February 12, 1942 in Port Huron.
Bill owned and operated Rankin and Carpenter Quality Meats for 25 years retiring in 1985. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion and the V.F.W. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling and golfing.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, of Port Huron Township; his sons, William of Sebring, FL, James (Ruth), Gerald (Betty) and Robert (Susan) Rankin, all of Port Huron, and Thomas (Gyla) Rankin of Smiths Creek; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; broth-ers, Jack (Valerie) of Imlay City and Donald (Sue) Rankin of Croswell; sister-in-law, Betty Rankin of Imlay City; and brother-in-law, Bob (Joy) Carpenter of Sebring, FL. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Ted Rankin and his sisters, Lucille Herriman and Hilda Johnston.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23rd at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, pastor of St. Stephen Church officiating. Visiting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Blue Water Hospice are suggested.
Mary Mack
Mary N. Mack, 84, of Fort Gratiot Twp., passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 in Evangelical Home, Port Huron.
She was born to Clarence and Nellie Jane Hatler on October 19, 1920 in Halls, TN, grew up in Tennessee and Kentucky, and moved to the Port Huron area in 1954.
Mary was a hard working woman who raised nine children. While living on the farm she did all the chores including milking cows and working in the tobacco and cotton fields.
She was a great cook and made her own clothes. She loved music, and at one time, was very involved in church activities. Her hobbies were her children and everyone else's children. She was "Mom" to everyone.
Mary's first husband, Lois Burl Casey, died in 1968. She then married
Ernest F. Mack who passed in in 1993.
She is survived by seven children, Clarence (Mary) Casey of Fort Gratiot, Madge Parker of Bloomington, IL, Jonelle (Gary) McVay and Juanita (Earl) Robinette, both of Fort Gratiot, Carol (Jerry) Fowlkes of Port Huron and Harold (Nancy) Casey and Bill (Debbie) Casey, both of Thompsonville, MI; two stepchildren, Judith Mack and Rick (Sue) Mack, both of Port Huron; two sonsinlaw, Travis Stuckey of Kimball and Chuck Cribbs of Los Vegas, Nevada; 38 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren; four greatgreatgrandchildren; one sister, Ethelee McGregor of Sarasota, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two children, Jane Stuckey and Norma Cribbs.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral HomeSouth, 1230 Seventh St. with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday (9/19) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Greg and Kevin Robinette, Mark, Gordon and Chad McVay, Rob Romero and Ron Dove.
Contributions may be made in Mary's memory to American Heart Association or Evangelical Home, Port Huron.
Ellen Clark
Mrs. Ellen Gertrude Clark, 85, of Marysville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 in Fort Gratiot Township.
She was born May 13, 1917 in Mitchellton, Saskatchewan to the late Earl and Ethel Culp.
She married
Sherman Eugene Clark on May 13, 1937 in Port Huron. He died July 19, 1969.
Mrs. Clark was employed with Mortimer Lumber Company for thirty-three years as an office administrator. She liked to play cards and bingo, read and crochet.
She is survived by a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley (Gladys) Tollander of Kimball Township; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Culp of Port Huron; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Francis (Elizabeth) Clark; a cousin, Chester and Ethel Wallenwine; and many nieces and nephews including her Godchildren, Susan Kozik of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Lisbeth) Tollander of Port Huron.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Davis in 1993 and two brothers, Lawrence Culp in 1995 and George Culp in 2001 and a sister-in-law, Arlene Culp in 2002.
Visiting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron.

Ivan B. Campbell
Ivan B. Campbell Sr., 72, of Fort Gratiot died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1929, in Port Huron to the late LeRoy B. and Goldie (Dennis) Campbell. He married
Shirley A. Meddaugh Nov. 22, 1949, in Port Huron.
He was the owner of Campbell Trucking and Trenching and Blue Water Morgan Horse Farm. He was a member and former Tail Twister of the Fort Gratiot Lions Club and former Vice President of Justin Morgan Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Blake (Ennette) Cambell Jr. of North Street and Alan R. Campbell of Avoca; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Laura) Campbell and Alane Wilson of Emmett; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Marlene) Harkness of Lapeer; three sisters-in-law, Minajean Campbell of Port Huron, Evelyn Campbell of Smiths Creek and Patricia Campbell of Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews including special nephew, Kenneth Joslin.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Bruce, Dennis and Donald; and a sister, Vera Joslin.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen C. Johnson of Hillside Wesleyan Church will officiate.
William Defrain
William Defrain, 77, of Port Huron died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, after a long illness.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1925, in Cheboygan.
He married
Helen C. Johnson on Oct. 31, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Helen C. Defrain of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William K. Defrain, on July 12, 2002.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Karrer- Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will officiate.
Inurnment of ashes will be in Mount Hope cemetery Columbarium.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
Edna Arnold
Edna Ida Arnold, 77 died Thursday, July 22, 2004 in her home after a long illness.
She was born July 4, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio and has been a lifelong resident of Port Huron Twp.
She married
her husband of 56 years, Bernard G. Arnold on June 26, 1948 in Sacred Heart Church in Yale.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and very proud of her grandchildren, Michael Arnold, Daniel Jones, Lisa Arnold, Jennifer Jones, Ashley, Amber and Adam Reichenbach.
Edna is survived by her husband Bernard; daughter, Diana (Sheldon) Jones of Sarnia; son, David (Diana) Arnold of North Street; daughter, Linda K. (Ray) Reichenbach of Port Huron; her seven grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine and Caroline; brothers, Richard and Bill; and loving sister, Helen Randolph of Port Huron Twp.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Rene L. Desmarais, pastor of St. Joseph Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. today.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
Ruth Martin
Ruth Ann Martin, age 60, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 after a courageous 16 month battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 31, 1943 in Port Huron, the daughter of the late Fred and Dorothy Bennett and step-daughter of the late James A. Hartman.
Ruth Ann worked for the United States Postal Service for 17 years, the past 12 years working at the St. Clair Post Office. She retired in May of 2002. She was formerly employed at the Pub in downtown Port Huron.
Ruth Ann enjoyed her lawn, flowers, gardening, feeding wild birds and took exceptional joy in her grandson.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Hand of Port Huron, Terri Hand of Port Huron and Donella Hand of Madison, Wisconsin; her son, Leslie Martin of Dearborn; one grandson, James Hand;her brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Marsha Bennett of Fort Gratiot, Robert and Elaine Bennett of Northport, Florida and John and Debbie Hartman of Marysville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan (Megan) and Donald Duckworth of Port Huron and Virginia and Richard Ameel of Port Huron; a brother, James A. "Skip" Hartman of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Evangelist Harold L. Hastings and The Rev. Johnnie R. Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James Hartman Jr., Kenneth Hartman, Daniel Duckworth, Franklin Hawkins, Henry Hawkins, Thomas Grambau and Brian Duckworth.
