Mary Goulette

Mary Rita Addison Goulette, age 88, of Port Huron, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 in her home following a short illness.

She was born May 14, 1916 in Port Huron and lived here all her life.

She married Van Lawrence Goulette on Jan. 3, 1946 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and received her Associates Degree from Port Huron Junior College in 1935. She was the first bookkeeper at Citizens Federal Savings, working for her uncle, Bert Wright, who was the founder. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Van Lawrence Goulette of Port Huron; her daughter, Ann M. Goulette (Dennis O'Neill); her grandson, Sergey O'Neill; and her granddaughter, Jana O'Neill, all of Arlington, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, John T. Addison and Joseph A. Addison; and a sister, Kathleen Addison.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Rene L. Desmarais, pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery Columbarium.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of mass at the church. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Blue Water Hospice.

Illa Bailey

Illa Irene Bailey, 82, of Marysville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2003.

She was born April 18, 1920 in St. Clair Twp. to the late Galon and Beatrice Moak. Her husband, Ervin George Bailey died Dec. 17, 2001.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She enjoyed flower gardening.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Kay) Quinlan and Barbara Whybrew, all of Marysville; two grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin (Jill) Quinlan and Shelby Quinlan; two great-grandchildren, Claire Irene Quinlan and Matthew Joseph Quinlan; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (Marcella) Moak of Port Huron Twp.; two sisters, Grace Sassanella of Port Huron and May Schatzline of Florida; five step-sons; 12 step- grandchildren; seven step-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph T. Barteld will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery, Marysville.

Pallbearers will be Jack Quinlan, Kevin Quinlan, Shelby Quinlan and Jill Quinlan.

Barbara Anderson

Barbara G. Anderson, 78 of Jensen Beach, FL and formerly of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2003 at the Shelby Nursing Center, Shelby Twp. She was born to Norman and Mildred Grund on September 5, 1925 in Evanston, IL and married Thomas F. Anderson on January 21, 1946 in Shaker Heights, OH. She lived most of her life in Port Huron until moving to Florida in the mid 1980s.

Barbara enjoyed cooking and playing cards. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and was a Life Master in Duplicate Bridge. She was a long time member of Grace Episcopal Church, Port Huron, and was currently a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Jensen Beach, FL. She was also a former member of Assembly Dance Club in Port Huron.

She is survived by three children, Thomas F. (Noni) Anderson M.D., Ann Arbor, MI, Garrett M. (Debra) Anderson, Shelby Twp., MI, and Lindsey M. (Fritz) George, Fort Gratiot Twp.; six grandchildren, Melissa Anderson, Thomas F. (Kristen) Anderson III, Amy (Luke) Anderson-Lyons, Rick George, Michael (Candy) George, and Bethanie (Pete) Rogulsky; one great grandson, Gryphon T. Anderson; and several nieces, nephews, & cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, who passed away December 5, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Anderson, and her brother, Robert Grund.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. The Rev. Robert Trask, Pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Contributions may be made in Barbara's memory to Hospice of Michigan or Alzheimer's Association.

Henrietta M. Brown

Henrietta M. Brown, 90, of Port Huron went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, in Marwood Manor.

She was born May 5, 1911, in Jellico, Tenn., to the late William Monroe and Laura (Whitfield) Greesen.

She was a member of Zion Tabernacle Church, missionary chairperson for 16 years, chairman of the ways and means committee and was formerly the Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in the foster grandparents program of St. Clair County for more than ten years.

She is survived by one son, Alexander L. (Barbara) Rutledge of Detroit; seven grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert (Freda) Bates Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Denise) Bates, Ernest and Daniel Bates, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson (Mary) Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Miles (Debbie) Rutledge and Jeffery Williams; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Mr. and Mrs. Leon (Terry) Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Rutledge; two sisters, Lily Williams and Mae Belle Smith; two daughters, Priscilla Bates and Lily Mae Martin.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Zion Tabernacle Church. Elder John Tate will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodland cemetery, Port Huron Township.

Bernice L. Cote

Bernice Lucille Cote, 84, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 21, 2001.

She was born March 29, 1917, in Port Huron to the late Edward and Agnes (Pifer) Spooner and was a lifelong area resident. She married Leo L. Cote on Jan. 12, 1935, in Port Huron. He died June 12, 1972.

Mrs. Cote was a foster grandparent for 16 years with the Port Huron Area School District serving in both Port Huron and Sparlingville.

She is survived by three sons, Lee Cote of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Cote of Standish and Mr. and Mrs. David (Lillian) Cote of Lake City; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Radatz of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Sandra) Brazell of Lexington, S.C., and Gloria Donbrosky of Port Huron; 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Karen) Spooner of Port Huron; a sister, Natalie Callender of Merced, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Tacia; a son, Ronald Cote; and seven grandchildren, Stephen and Gordon Tacia, Donald Cote, Nicholas Kippen, Becky Radatz and Stacy and Stephanie Cote.

Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Aho of Lighthouse Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Radatz, Jimmy Cote, Jason Fick, Chuck Tacia, David Cote, Bud Donbrosky and Lisa Lambert.

Maude Walker

Maude O. Walker, 78, of Port Huron Twp., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003.

She was born May 19, 1925 in Alabama to the late Rome and Donna Fulgham.

She married Johnnie Walker in 1957 in Port Huron.

Mrs. Walker was employed with Masco Tech prior to her retirement. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a former Trustee. She was a member of the Community Choir, N.A.A.C.P., and a former member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to garden and cook.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Johnnie; three children, Terrance and Derrick Walker of Port Huron and Gwendolyn Walker of Lansing; two grandchildren, Casey and Dock; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Girlie Calloway of Romulus and Delores Mays of Detroit; special friends, Mrs. Magline Hazely, Mrs. Jesse Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burrell and Mrs. Adlean Beavers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Metropolitan Baptist Church. The Rev. Reid Wiley will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

William E. Burns

William E. Burns, 43, of Port Huron passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Port Huron Hospital.

He was born to Edward and Joyce Burns on Dec. 2, 1958, in St. Clair and grew up in Yale.

He graduated from Yale High School in 1977.

Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and hunting. He especially enjoyed his family. He also liked to read.

He will be sadly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Donna M. Burns; five children, Richard Burns, William Burns, Michelle Gozdzialski, Richard Gozdzialski and Beverly (Paul) Radatz; five grandchildren, Amber, Christina, Alexis, Michael and Billy; his mother, Joyce E. Burns of Avoca; one brother, Tim (Barb) Burns of Applegate; three sisters, Jayne Wiegand of Yale, Barbara (Al) Mericle of Avoca and Sharon (Carl) Takacs of Yale; a sister-in-law, Kathy Burns of Marysville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Burns, who passed away June 14, 1998.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale. The Rev. Gene Katcher, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. Port Huron. On Saturday visitation will begin at 9 a.m. in the church.

Harry L. Baker

Harry L. Baker, 74, of Lakeport died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, after a short illness.

He was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Croswell.

He married Donna Hodge on Dec. 28, 1963.

Harry joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served in the Pacific.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sailing.

Harry was active in the Black River cleanup and the Lakeport Lions Club.

He was self-employed as a tool grinder.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; mother, B. Mildred Rush; three sisters, Blanche Melms, Betty Barton and Helen (Russ) Dickinson, all of the Port Huron area; brother, Harold (Shirley) Baker of California; and several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind good friends, John, Cathy, Sarah and Heather LaBadie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis H. Baker.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in North Lakeport Wesleyan Church, 3871 Harris Road.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., at 17th Street.

Memorials may be made to the St. Clair County Humane Society.

Bobby Adkins

Bobby Adkins, 63 of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2002 in Mercy Hospital. He was born to Asa and Viola Adkins on February 20, 1938 in Shelby, OH.

He is survived by his four children, Brenda Kay, Lee Ann, & Brian; five sisters Laverna (Marvin) Rich, Doris (Frank) Kelch, and Betty(Charles) Towns, all of Port Huron, Jessica Adkins, North Street, MI, and Joann (Stanley) Smith, Largo, FL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, & great nephews, and a special friend, Shelby Sheffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers Glindon, Raymond, and Tommy Adkins.

Cremation has taken place. A service in Bobby's memory will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2002 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. The Rev. Dan Bakay, Pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery at a later time. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Peoples Clinic.
