Sanford Hewitt

Sanford T. Hewitt went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 21, 2004 in St. Clair. He married Ethel R. Riley in Detroit on June 15, 1940.

She went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2003. Sanford was born to Thomas and Elizabeth Hewitt on July 16, 1914 in Sanilac County, and graduated from Carsonville High School in 1931. He lived and worked in the Detroit area from 1935 until 1978 when he retired and moved to Port Sanilac. In 1986 he moved to Port Huron. He has been a member of the Port Sanilac Lions Club since 1979. He is survived by a nephew, Dale Hewitt, great-nephew and great-niece, Chris and Megan Hewitt, many other nieces and nephews, and dear friends, Patricia Ford, Chris Frantz, and Sheila Jansen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan B. and Kenneth D. Hewitt.

A memorial service will take place at 11 AM Thursday, May 27 in the First United Methodist Church with The Rev. David Gladstone officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the St. Clair County Council on Aging. Arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Bernard C. Blimke

Bernard C. Blimke, 86, of Port Huron, died Monday, October 30, 2000, in Marwood Manor.

He was born January 16, 1914, in Capac to the late Charles and Mary Hafer Blimke. He married Katherine Langolf on June 29, 1946, in Port Huron.

Mr. Blimke retired from the Chrysler Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a member, deacon and usher at Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the American Legion Charles Hammond Post 8.

He enjoyed gardening and working on his lawn.

Mr. Blimke is survived by his wife; two sisters, Dorothy Earl of Detroit and Esther Miller of Capac; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Edward Albers.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2000, in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2000, in Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Donald R. Doerzbacher will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron.

Pallbearers will be Ed Mainguy, Charles Roche, Roy and Tim Langolf, Al Keskimaki, Eric Hinchen and Edward Albers.

Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church or Marwood Manor.

Dorothy L. Buckner

Dorothy L. Buckner, 73, of Kimball Township went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in her home after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Martin and Lottie Reynolds. She married Milton J. Buckner Sr. on Feb. 11, 1942, in Rossville, Ga. He died Aug. 16, 1984.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing the piano.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Bill Hammond of Port Huron, Sharon and Robert Olguin of Jeddo and Shelia and Charles Peeling of Kimball Township; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Debbie Buckner of Farmington Hills and Ron and Chris Buckner of Ohio; her sister, Pauline Bittle of Smyrna, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald E. Buckner; a granddaughter, Jennifer Buckner; and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Hammond.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., at 17th Street. The Rev. Johnnie R. Johnson, pastor of Crossroad Christian Center, will officiate.

Burial will be in Christian Memorial Cultural Center in Peck.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, November 13, 2000, in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hammond, Billy Hammond Jr., Larry Warren, Ron Buckner II, Dale Teichow and Dan Shurkey.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Daniel Roskey

Daniel S. Roskey, 49, of Chesterfield, died unexpectedly Friday, August 17, 2007 in Mt. Clemens General Hospital.

He was born September 21, 1957 in Port Huron to the late Clarence and Margaret Roskey and lived in this area until the last five years.

Dan was a graduate of Port Huron Northern High School. He was employed at the Chrysler Warren Stamping Plant in skilled trades and had thirty-one years of service. He was an avid sportsman enjoying all sports especially fishing, hunting, golfing, baseball and bowling. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge #158, Port Huron.

Dan is survived by his son, A1C Ryan D. Roskey, USAF, stationed in Korea; brothers, Richard (Gail) Roskey, Ronald Roskey, both of Port Huron, Arthur (Amelia) Roskey of Clinton Twp., Patrick (Edith) Roskey of Ft. Gratiot, and Myron (Patricia) Roskey of Marysville; sisters, Marilyn Middleton, Carolyn (William) Stoner and Susanne Gurnsey, all of Port Huron, Jacquelyn Miller of Richmond, Mary Roskey and Janice (Rick) Little, both of Port Huron; sister-in-law, Joan Roskey of Clyde; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, David and Melvin Roskey.

His funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (8/23) in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Colby of Cross Currents Church will officiate. Visiting hours are 2 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday (8/22) and from 1:00 p.m. Thursday (8/23) in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to wishes of the family.

Gladys Doan

Gladys I. Doan, age 89 of Port Huron died Monday, July 23, 2007 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness. She was born March 24, 1918 in Deckerville and lived in Port Huron for most of her life. She married Harvey Doan on August 27, 1938 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1987. Gladys enjoyed gambling, puzzles, crocheting, and traveling. She is survived by 2 sons, Harvey (Beverly) Doan of Port Huron, and David Doan of North Street, 2 daughters, Janet Laming and Diane (Lyle) Ostrander both of Port Huron Twp., 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Verna Campbell, 2 brothers, Earl and Gordon Campbell, 2 daughters, Carol Doan and Yvonne Sweet, and a grandson, Russell J. Doan. A funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Laming, Michael Laming Jr., Bryan Lawry, Bryan Lawry Jr., Harvey Doan, and Jamie Main. Friends may visit on Thursday from 10 AM until the hour of service at 12 noon.

Walter Kolecki

Walter Kolecki, 75, of Marysville, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 3, 1925, in Hamtramack to the late Peter and Emily Bieda Kolecki.

Mr. Kolecki retired after 30 years as a draftsman for Chrysler Defense Corp.

He served in the US Army during WWII and received three bronze stars and the Purple Heart.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Mr. Kolecki enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golf. He traveled extensively.

Mr. Kolecki is survived by his sister, Frances Hackewicz of Marysville; two nephews, Doug Hackewicz of Marysville and Howard Hackewicz of Roseville; a niece, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph (Laura) Peters of Waterford; and two great-nephews, Bryan and Kyle Peters.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2000, and Friday, November 4, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service which will be at 11 a.m. in the Marysville Funeral Home. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in Whit3e Chapel Memorial cemetery, Troy.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Ida M. Marshall

Ida M. Marshall, 70 of Port Huron Twp., went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2000. She passed away in her home after a long illness. She was born to Albert and Alma Post on October 16, 1930 in Port Huron and married Bill Marshall on November 30, 1968. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #99 and loved to play bingo.

Ida was a loving mother, grandmother, and a wonderful wife. She is survived by her husband, Bill Marshall, PH Twp.; her three children, Mike (Bonnie) Borowski, Bruce (Bobi Jo) Thompson, and Linda Thompson, all of Port Huron; three step children, Gary & Greg Marshall, and Julie Fetterly, all of Port Huron; seven grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her brother, Larry (Jackie) Post, Port Huron; her five sisters, June (Moe) Groff, Judy (John) Fellman, & Patricia Horn, all of Port Huron, Dorothy (Richard) Sollman, Zephyrhills, FL, & Alberta Porter, Mt. Clemens; her three sisters in law, Penny Post, Ruth McDonald, & Lessie McMullen, al of Port Huron; her brother in law, Bill Olvera, Port Huron; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Lynn & Bonnie Harvey and Clyde & Marge Warren, all of Port Huron; and her god son, Pat Warren, Port Huron. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Bradley Borowski, two brothers, Harold & Robert Post, and three sisters, Eva Moran, May Brown, and Betty Olvera.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2000 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. The Rev. Dan Bakay, Pastor of First Baptist Church, will officate. Cremation will follow with interment in Lakeside cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Ida's memory to Blue Water Hospice.

Harold R. Sharrow Sr

Harold R. Sharrow Sr., 61, of East China Township, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born July 12, 1939, in Marine City to the late Dennis E and Nellie E. Thompson Sharrow and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Sharrow was a retired research paint technician with Ford Motor Co. He was a former Cub Scout leader and member of the Moose Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army.

He loved country music, fishing, hunting and his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Harold R. (Heather) Sharrow Jr. of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony (Kimberly) Dennis Sharrow of Port Huron and Travis Sharrow of St. Clair, three daughters, Penny Edwards of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Doug (Annette) White of Kimball Towship and Michelle Sharrow of St. Clair; seven grandchildren, Carrie, Daniel, Ryan, Shawn, Holly, Nathaniel and Whitney; three brothers, Dennis, Robert and William Sharrow; six sisters, Ruth Ann Scribner, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Judy) Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Anton (Carol) Atherholt, Sherry Flint, Sandra Beaumont and Mr. and Mrs. Link (Evelyn) an uncle, John Thompson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte Marsh and Diane Sharrow, and a brother, Kenneth.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 15, 2000 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. Johnnie R. Johnson of Crossroad Christian Center will officiate.

Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery, Clay Township.

Pallbearers will be Ben Pauli, William, Ryan and Shawn Sharrow, Daniel Devroy and Nathaniel Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis and Robert Sharrow, and Roswell Devroy.

Frances M. Sturges

Frances M. Sturges, 90, of Marysville, died Saturday, October 28, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born February 2, 1910, in Port Huron to the late Frank S. and N. Vale Myers Henson.

She was a lifelong area resident. She married Charles D. Sturges on June 27, 1059, in Port Huron. He died April 25, 1992.

Mrs. Sturges graduated from Port Huron High School in 1927. She was employed with the city of Port Huron, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, an organizing member of the Ottawa Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a life member of Chapter 170, Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Chapter ladies Library Association and Port Huron Musicale.

She is survived by three step-daughters and sons-in-law, Carole (John) Zimerman and Pamela (Gary) Goodin, all of Marysville, and Nancy (Larry) Corrigan of Kimball Township; a stepson, Robert Sturges of California; four granddaughters, Dana (Larry) Westphal and Stacy (Brad) Priehs, all of Marysville, and Pamela Pledger and Patrisha (Rob) Burden, all of California; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Christopher and Joshua Westphal and Nicholas and Madison Priehs; and a special caregiver, Cathey Elsacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt, Eva H. Neumann, in 1986; a sister, Vale Louise Winchester, in 1988; and a granddaughter, Amanda Duran, in 1982.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2000, in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Trask of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wellington Hayes, John Zimerman, Larry Corrigan, Gary Goodin, Larry Westphal and Brad Priehs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.

Melba M. Wilkins

Melba Mae Wilkins, 76, of Fort Gratiot died Friday, November 10, 2000, in her home.

She was born October 17, 1924, in Maytown, Ky, to the late John E. and Monnie (Prater) Frazier. She married . Robert Lee Wilkins, Aug. 10, 1947 in Howell.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing the organ, cooking, knitting, crocheting, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. David (Mary) Wilkins of Gobles, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Jan), Wilkins of Fort Gratiot; four granddaughters, Carrie, Melissa, Nicole and Kelly; three. great-granddaughters, Danielle, Melissa and Lauren; a sister, Sabra Stanlake of Lady Lake, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three, brothers, Henry, Grady and James; and a sister, Mabra

Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Dellis W. Hudson of Blue Water Hospice will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot

Memorials may be be made to the Evangelical Home, Port Huron.
