Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson, age 88 of Asheville, North Carolina, and formerly of Port Huron died August 12, 2007 in the John Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

He was born November 27, 1918 in Port Huron and had lived here for over 60 years. He worked for Mueller Brass for 40 years and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Andrew served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Stella M. Johnson of Asheville; a son, Andrew P. (Nancy) Johnson of Asheville; a daughter, Colleen A. (Graham) Henning of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 4 grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Johnson of Ashville, and Nathan and Nicole Henning of Calgary.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with the Rev. Fr. Simeon T. Iber officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the John Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

Henrietta M. Brown

Henrietta M. Brown, 90, of Port Huron went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, in Marwood Manor.

She was born May 5, 1911, in Jellico, Tenn., to the late William Monroe and Laura (Whitfield) Greesen.

She was a member of Zion Tabernacle Church, missionary chairperson for 16 years, chairman of the ways and means committee and was formerly the Sunday School Superintendent. She was active in the foster grandparents program of St. Clair County for more than ten years.

She is survived by one son, Alexander L. (Barbara) Rutledge of Detroit; seven grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert (Freda) Bates Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Denise) Bates, Ernest and Daniel Bates, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson (Mary) Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Miles (Debbie) Rutledge and Jeffery Williams; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Mr. and Mrs. Leon (Terry) Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Rutledge; two sisters, Lily Williams and Mae Belle Smith; two daughters, Priscilla Bates and Lily Mae Martin.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Zion Tabernacle Church. Elder John Tate will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodland cemetery, Port Huron Township.

Marian L. Course

Marian L. Course, 84, of Port Huron died unexpectedly Sunday, November 12, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital. She was born April 26, 1916, in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident. Her husband, John M. Course, died on January 9, 1973.

Marian was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church and taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years.

She was devoted to her family and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, James M. (Mary Kay) Course Sr. of Fort Gratiot and Michael J. (Ruthann) Course of Port Huron; her granddaughters, Tricia (Jeffery) Harmon of Port Huron, Tanya (Douglas) McLean of Fort Gratiot and Tina (Mark) Kezel of Port Huron; grandson, James M. (Alissa) Course Jr. of Kimball Township; granddaughters, Carmella (Greg) Falecki of Memphis and Jacqueline (Keith) MacDonald of Croswell; grandson, Adam J. (fiancee Danielle Vollet) Course of Auburn Hills; granddaughter, Mandy L. Course of Port Huron; great-grandchildren, April Ann, Anthony, Brandon, Ryan, Melani, Avery and Nolan and, arriving in December, Trent; her sisters, Josephine Woodward, Ruth Woodward, and Agnes Woodward, all of Port Huron and Margaret Elizabeth (Dr. Francis) Morrison of Marysville; her brother, Jack H. (Mary Lou) Woodward of Lansing; her special niece Nan (Dave) Perley and daughter, Mallory, of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Woodward; sister, Ann Woodward Ernst; brother, George F. Woodward; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Pesko.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Karrer Simpson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today.

Marian's grandsons and her nephews, David Perley and Gary Knupp, will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or Blue Water Hospice.

Gordon Gillette

Gordon R. Gillette, 83, of Port Huron, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab following a long illness.

He was born to Roy and Olive Gillette on April 11, 1920, attended the Port Huron schools, and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1941.

On July 31, 1943, he married Mary E. Bellaw at the First Baptist Church in Port Huron.

Gordon was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He also served with the Coast Guard Reserve. He worked for many years as an optician with Tudhope Optical until his retirement. He was a long time member and trustee of the First Baptist Church; was a life member of the South Park Lions Club; and a member of the Charles Hammond Post #8 American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. Gillette; two sons, David (Bobbie) Gillette of Rockwall, TX and Stephen (Karen) Gillette of Royal Oak; four grandchildren, Michelle (Josh) Beauchamp of Ennis, TX, Stephanie (Greg) Schoonover of Berkley, Julie (Steve) Legakis of Lyon Twp. and Jennifer (Ryan) Tipton of Dallas, TX; four great-grandchildren, Zoe, Paulina, Max and Joshua; and a sister-in-law, Edna (Gilbert) Furman of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by his brother and his sister.

The funeral service will be at noon Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dan Bakay, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Allied Veterans cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and on Saturday at the church beginning at 11 a.m.

Contributions may be made in Gordon's memory to First Baptist Church or South Park Lions Club.

Wilfrid Mechan

Wilfrid M. Mechan, age 86, of Port Huron, died Friday, September 2, 2005 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab after a long illness.

He was born December 1, 1918 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

He married Lillian A. Masar on January 5, 1943 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death September 30, 2004.

Wilfrid sailed on the Great Lakes. He was a Coast Guard Reservist. He loved restoring antique cars, traveling and boating. He retired from Prestolite Wire and Cable after 37 years of service. He was a devoted family man.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Jean (Leon) Johnson of Oxford, Mary Ellen (Chuck) Hauff of Shelby Twp., Carol Ann (William) Edgar of North Lakeport, Patricia Kay (Paul) Ouellette of Canal Winchester, Ohio; his son, Jeffrey (Vonnie) Mechan of Port Huron; his grandchildren, Richard J. (Alissa) Ramage Jr. of Gilbert, Ariz., Charles G. (Mindi) Ramage of Orange Park, Fla., Heather (Dan) Albert of Romeo, Christopher Hauff of Ferndale and Lori (Michael) Stoneberg of Mt. Crested Butte, Colo.; his greatgrandchildren, Avery Ramage of Danville, Calif., Daniel, Charlene and Sydney Stoneberg of Mt. Crested Butte, Colo. and Richard James Ramage III of Gilbert, Ariz., and two greatgrandchildren to be born shortly; his sisters, Genevieve M. (Al) Kubek of Port Huron, Marie E. Hunter of the Detroit area and Betty J. Ward of Fort Gratiot; his brother, Charles E. (Rosemary) Mechan of Marysville; his sister, Beverly J. (Gary) Thorley of Port Huron; his brother, Fred C. (Mary) Mechan of Port Huron; his sister, Anne (Jerry) Dechert of St. Joseph, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred Sikes, Josephine Hess, Bernard Mechan and Charlotte Kleitch.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sep. 6th in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Administrator of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sep. 6th at KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Irene M. Dubs

Irene M. Dubs, 92, of Port Huron, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2000, after a short illness.

She was born to Frank and Gertrude Meddaugh on January 1, 1908, in Croswell. She married Peter Dubs on December 26, 1928, in Croswell. He passed away on December 10, 1979.

Irene was a Marydale resident. She enjoyed her family and her friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. (Donn) Wrench of Marysville; her two granddaughters, Cathleen (Rusty) Meska. of East Lansing, and Melanie (Thomas) Septer of South Salem, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Drouare and Kyle Meska, all of East Lansing, and Tommy and Zachary Septer of South Salem, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Donna and Roger Taylor of Port Huron.

She was preceded in death by her son, Norman Eugene Dubs; three brothers, Guy, Cecil and Wilson Meddaugh; and her two sisters, Merle Baker and Florence Meddaugh.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. The Rev. Robert P. Trask, pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in-Croswell cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Meska, Thomas Septer, Roger Taylor, Kyle Meska, Austin and Tyler Drouare and Tommy and Zachary Septer.

Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's memory to Marydale Senior Residence.

Doris I. Gauthier

Doris I. Gauthier, 78, of Port Huron, passed away Friday, November 17 2000, in Mercy Hospital.

She was born to Raymond and Adele Bradshaw on June 26, 1922, in Goodells. She married Phillip L. Gauthier on June 27, 1949, in Port Huron. He passed away on August 10, 1998.

Years ago, she worked as a private-duty, licensed practical nurse. She enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved to fish with her husband.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Linda L. (Gerald) Radatz and Gail A. (T.J. Marineau) Terpening, both of Port Huron; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grand children; her brothers and sisters, Raymond (Marlene) Bradshaw of Ohio Lucille (Milton) Lawrence of Alba, Mo., William (Janet) Bradshaw of Goodells, Priscilla "Pat" Patterson, Geraldine "Jerry" (Austin) Hall of Kimball Township, and Crystal Sue (Frank) Spillard, Fla.; her sister, Loretta; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Bradshaw, and sisters, Berniece "Peat" Spencer, Donna Rock and Janet Webb.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2000, in Smith Family Funeral Home South, 1230 Seventh St. The Rev, Lyle Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount .Hope cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Uncle Bill, Leonard, Bill Jr., and Frank Bradshaw, Leonard Patterson and Dave Hall.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the United Way of St. Clair County.

Harold "Hal" Gehrke

Harold T. "Hal" Gehrke, 64, of St Clair Township died Friday, Novmber 10, 2000 in his home.

Mr. Gehrke was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Mount Clemens. He married Janet K. Lees on May 6, 1961, in St. Clair Shores.

He is survived by two grandchildren Chad and Heather Zurawski and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Dan (Ann) Wade of St. Clair Township.

Visitation will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday in Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev, Gerald Britz of St. Christopher Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mausoleum, Richmond Memorials may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church of Blue Water Hospice.

Peter Gross

Peter Gross, 80, of Marysville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 26, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born September 1, 1920, in Port Huron to the later Frank and Catherine (Csorgo) Gross and was a life long area resident. He married Letha Simmons on May 3, 1941, in Alliance, Ohio.

Mr. Gross retired from Prestolite Wire Company after 40 years of service. During his career he was active in union activities and served as Local President. He coached Little League Baseball and was an avid Marysville Vikinf football fan and supporter.

He is survived by his wife; his two daughters, Nancy (Richard) Roehl, Smiths Creek and Ruth (Donald) VanSuilochem, Troy; his two sons, Terence (Susan) Gross, Farmington Hills and Robert Gross, Flint; ten grandchildren, Sgt. and Mrs. Daniel (Jackie) Roehl, US Army, Michael (Jill) Roehl, Kristi Roehl, Robert P. (Debbie) Gross, Brian, Erin, Ashley Gross, Kimber, Kelly, and Katrina VanSuilichem; five great grandchildren, Robbie, Erin and Jeffrey Gross, Justin and Austin Roehl; his brother, Stephen (Laurice) Gross, Port Huron; his sister, Helen Schultz, Sandusky; sisters in law, Anita Westbrook, Croswell, Clara Bloink, North Street and Leona Simmons, Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday in Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Marysville Funeral Home. Father David Lesniak, St. Stephen Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be n Riverlawn cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ron and James Schultz, Scott and Ray Westbrook, and Robert and Brian Gross.

Memorials may be made to Michigan Heart Association.

Gerald O. Harmer

Gerald O. Harmer, 89, of Marysville, died Thursday, November 16, 2000, in Marwood Manor.

He was born August 4, 1911, in Yale to the late Vennie and Ruth Harmer. He married Elizabeth Ward on June 20, 1933, in Port Huron He was a lifelong area resident.

He attended Port Huron High School, and was a member of the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge 11 F&AM. He was past commander of the Black River Boat Club and a life member of the DAV. He served with the Marines in World War II.

He retired from Duro Oil Co. He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Harmer of Marysville; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Gerald Martin of Arizona; his daughter, Donna Thompson of Port Huron; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grand children; several nieces and nephews; his brother and sister-in-law, Ellerton and Marge Harmer of the Virgin Islands; and his sister-in-laws, Betty and Mary.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Alvin.

Memorial services will be 4:30 p.m. Monday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., at 17th Street. The Rev. Mickey Blair, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Pine Grove Masonic Lodge 11 F&AM will also have a memorial service.

Burial of remains will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery. St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct military honors.

Visiting hours are 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Blue Water Hospice.
