Dorothy Schultz

Dorothy A. Schultz, age 89, of Port Huron, died Friday, September 9, 2005 in Mercy Hospital.

She was born March 6, 1916 in Palms, MI and lived here most of her life.

She married Stan Schultz on October 14, 1939 in Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Mary Martha Guild. She enjoyed gardening and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Stan Schultz of Port Huron; her daughter, Carol (Donald) Schultz of Fort Gratiot; her granddaughters, Lori (Richard) Blake and Paula (Curtis) Myers; greatgrandchildren, Corey and Lindsay Blake and Jeremy and Jordan Myers; her sister, Martha Deike; her sisterinlaw, Jane Warczinsky; her stepsister, Marion Nelson; her stepbrother, Lee Warshefske; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Adeline (Brandt) Warczinsky; brother, Carl Warczinsky; stepbrother, Willard Warshefske; sisterinlaw, Marie Schultz; mother and fatherinlaw, Lydia and Charles Schultz.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (9/14) in Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert H. Mann, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday (9/12) and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (9/13) at KarrerSimpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Richard Blake, Curtis Myers, Corey Blake, Don Schultz Jr., Chris Schultz and John Gordon. Honorary pallbearers will be Lindsay Blake, Jeremy Myers and Jordan Myers.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Samuel Battle

Samuel Everette Battle, 62, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, August 23, 2007. He was born February 24, 1945 in Port Huron to the late Tolitha Battle and James Amerson. Samuel was a lifelong resident of Port Huron. He was a graduate of Port Huron High School. He was employed with Diamond Crystal for over twenty years, and recently retired from Black River Manufacturing as a machine operator. Samuel served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972 as a Specialist E 4, and received the distinguished National Defense Medal when discharged. Samuel was a devoted member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He served in many capacities at Shiloh. He was an active member of the Brotherhood, sang in the church choir, and was an active member of the Trustee Board. He was an ordained Deacon, and served as superintendent of the Sunday school. He recently was a recipient of the Man of the Year award at Shiloh. He enjoyed fishing, and watching the ships.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his aunt, Alice Ashford of Riverdale, Georgia, and a host of cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death his mother, Tolitha Battle. A funeral service will take place at 12 noon Friday in the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the St. Clair Co. Allied Veterans cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans. Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Edna Wilkins

Edna R. Wilkins, age 75, of Port Huron died unexpectedly of natural causes in her home on October 1, 2007. She was born September 13, 1932 in Watertown, Michigan. She lived in Port Huron for the past 38 years. She married Robert G. Wilkins on June 10, 1971 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1994. Edna is survived by eight children, Robert C. Wilkins of Marysville, Kimberly D. Anderson of Monroe, Gary (Pam) Miller of Fort Gratiot, Terry (Vicky) Miller of North Dakota, Randy Miller of Port Huron, Mark Miller of Florida, Darlene Willis of Port Huron, and Pam (Alex) Pain of Florida. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a brother, Gerry (Theola) Pearson of Fort Gratiot. Edna was preceded in death by a daughter, Hope Robles, son-in-law, Howard Anderson, a sister Velma, and a brother, Vern. A funeral service will take place at 10 AM Saturday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Dan Bakay officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris and Ken Ripkey, Richard Case, Terry and Randy Miller, and Les Spalding. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the funeral home. Memorials may be made at the discretion of the donor.

Richard Hart

Richard W. Hart, 41 of Warren, MI, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in the home of his mother on Friday, January 30, 2004.

He was born to Alden and Dorothy Hart on September 8, 1962 in Highland Park, MI, attended the Warren schools, graduated from Warren Cousino High School in 1980, and attended Michigan State University. In high school, Richard was a competitive swimmer, and at age 13, he was ranked 2nd in the state in the breast stroke.

He enjoyed the outdoors, loved to go fishing, and participate in family camping trips. He also loved sports, especially football, enjoyed music, and was an avid reader. Above all, Richard loved life and being with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy J. Hart, Lakeport, MI; his brother, Allen J. (Katherine A.) Hart, Clarkston, MI; his two nieces, Lauren A. and Sarah M. Hart; his nephew, Jacob A. Hart; and many aunts, uncles, & cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alden J. Hart, who passed away on November 15, 2000.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in North Lakeport Wesleyan Church. Pastor Joseph P. Braisted of North Lakeport Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Burtchville Twp. cemetery. Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Allen Hart, Calvin Hart, Mark Kuligowski, Robert Johnson, and Chris Wiegand.

Contributions may be made in Richard's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

James Hewitt

James F. Hewitt, 56, of Fort Gratiot, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 10, 1947 in Detroit.

Jim was raised on the family farm in Kinde. He married Kathy Callahan Aug. 11, 1972 in Port Huron.

Mr. Hewitt retired from James River Paper Company after 24 years of service. He belonged to the United Paper Workers Union; was a member of Charles Hammond American Legion Post; and was a former member of the Port Huron Power Squadron. He enjoyed boating and golfing. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Brian (Jennifer) Weich of Clarkston, Jessica Hewitt of Sterling Heights and Jamie Hewitt of East Lansing; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Terry (Linda) Green of Fort Gratiot; two sisters, Beth Green and Gail Green, both of Port Huron and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Hewitt-Green and a close uncle, Russell Hewitt.

Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Honorable Michael J. Callahan will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot Twp. Pallbearers will be Gerald Harbaugh, Craig Harbaugh, Brad Green, Jason Green, Al Iosue and Leslie Luther.

Graveside Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Charles Hammond American Legion or D.A.V.

Lora Hurley

Lora J. Hurley, 70 of Houston, TX and formerly of Port Huron, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 in Veterans Hospital, Houston.

She was born to Byron and Jessie Hurley on June 10, 1934 in Minden City, MI, graduated from Port Huron High School, and worked briefly at Port Huron Hospital.

Following her service in the U.S. Navy, Lora moved to Houston where she worked for Southline Equipment Co. of Houston for many years.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Dorothy Olsen of Houston; two sisters, Mary Lou Harris, Port Huron Twp. and Delores Mae Hurley, Vassar, MI; her brother, Walter Eugene Hurley, Houston; three nieces, Cathy Jowett, Sondra Mohr and Lora Putman; and a nephew, Daniel Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John H. Hurley and a brother-in-law, William Harris.

A family service in Lora's memory was held today, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Burial was in Lakeside cemetery.

Willie Jackson

Willie "Uncle Willie" Jackson, 86, of Port Huron departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on March 25, 1915, in Sawyerville, Ala., to the late Willie and Emma (Wilson) Jackson and came to Port Huron by way of Sawyerville and Opelika, Ala., and Atlanta. Uncle Willie and Beulah Gunter Franks were married Dec. 28, 1972, by his brother, Bishop Isaiah Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a self taught handyman who was involved in construction as a carpenter, plumber and "jack of all trades." He also was employed with Andy Falk Motors and Cawood Auto. Uncle Willie will be remembered for spreading joy and humor around the lives of those who knew him and will be greatly missed.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife, Beulah; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Carolyn) Bankston of Pontiac and John "Jackie" Bankston of Atlanta; three granddaughters, Michelle Brisbon of Oxford, Adrienne Johnson of Riverdale, Ga., and Daphne Noble of Port Huron; a grandson, Gregory Bankston of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and Kennedy Michelle Brisbon; 125 nieces and nephews including a special niece and nephew, Phillip and Audrey Morris of Port Huron; and a host of friends and well-wishers.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Zettie James, Betty Harris and Mamie Johnson; four brothers, Wash, Clayborn, Randolph and Bishop Issiah Jackson and a daughter-in-law, Linda Bankston.

Family hour will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday in Zion Tabernacle Church. The Rev. John Tate will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Grazia A. Johnston

Grazia A. Johnston, 88, of Port Huron died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital following a short illness.

She was born May 16, 1913, in Carsonville and lived here all her life. She married William B. Johnston II on March 2, 1946, in Port Huron.

She is survived by her husband, William B. Johnston II of Port Huron; her daughter, Margaret Holmes of Marysville; her daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Donald Frumveller of North Street; her son and daughter-in-law, William and Chance Johnston of Jeddo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Spencer of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey Miller.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron.

Gloria Eagle

Gloria A. Eagle, 59, of Port Huron Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 19, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital.

She was born to Carl and Dora Eagle on Oct. 29, 1943 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

Gloria worked for the Port Huron Area School District for over 30 years, beginning as a lunch room assistant and teacher's aide.

She drove school bus for many years and was the dispatcher for the last five years. She liked to go camping, reading, and she especially enjoyed her family and friends.

She is survived by her two brothers, Rick (Bobbie) Eagle of Port Huron and Edward (Lorraine) Eagle of Port Huron Twp.; her sister, Connie Eagle of Port Huron Twp.; ten nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital Chaplin, will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion cemetery, Watertown, MI.

Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Rick Eagle Jr., Ernie Ohngren, Timothy Eagle, Jesse Eagle, Jeremy Pearl and David Gardner.

Marie Davis

Marie Davis, 93, of Kimball, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital.

She was born July 20, 1911 in Sebewaing and lived here since 1937.

She married James Arthur Davis. He died May 20, 1986.

Marie was employed at Pontiac Motors during World War II and worked at Autolite during the 1950's.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia M. Smith of Sunrise, FL; her son, Arthur Davis Jr. of Lake Orion; her daughters, Betty L. Bachschmidt of Holly Hills, FL and Genevieve A. Woolman of Port Huron; son, Roy J. (Ardis) Davis of Clarkston; daughter, Darlene L. Snover of Kimball; brother, John Helzer of Waterford; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Riverlawn cemetery Chapel, Marysville. The Rev. Max Amstutz, chaplain of Port Huron Hospital will officiate. Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery, Marysville.

There is no visitation scheduled.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Willie Brown

Willie Curtis Brown was born on January 8, 1966 in Faunsdale, Alabama to the late Josh and Emma Brown. He departed this life unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, January 25, 2004 enroute to Port Huron Hospital.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He dedicated his life again and became a born again Christian at Only Believe Outreach Ministry.

Mr. Brown was employed with J. Brown and Sons Inc. as a laborer. Curtis enjoyed sports, dancing, and he loved being with his family. He also was attending school in Detroit to become a barber. Curtis was a light to every child he came into contact with, especially David Michael Bell.

He leaves to mourn three sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Emma) Turner of Fort Gratiot, Mary Emma Brown and Brunetta Denise Brown, both of Port Huron; three brothers Mr. and Mrs. Josh (Yvette) Brown Jr., Charles Edward Brown, and Booker T. Brown, all of Port Huron; a loving and devoted grandmother, Susie M. Brown of Hamden, Connecticut; four aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin (Gertrude) Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Ernesto (Rebecca) Torres, both of Hamden, Connecticut, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel (Susan) Eleazer of Virginia Beach, VA., and Ruby Brown Payne of Port Huron; two uncles, Mr. Jack Brown Jr. and Mr. Prince Brown, both of Port Huron. He leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews, many cousins and many friends. He also leaves behind a very special loving child, David Michael Bell and a special person Jeannette Bell, both of Acworth, GA, a very special cousin and friend Leroy Brown, a very close friend, Mary Whitmore, a dear friend, Carol Russell all of Port Huron, and a good friend, Lynn Hyslop of Detroit. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Edward Rogan.

The funeral service will be at 12 noon, Friday, January 30, 2004 in Bethlehem Temple. Elder Gary Michael Rogan will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 11 a.m.

Active Pallbearers will be Charles Adams, Jackie and Leroy Brown, Mike Jones, Joseph Walker Jr., and Jerome Weatherspoon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alex and David Briggins, Jack Brown Jr., Jessie Brown Jr., Prince Brown, Ricky Jemine, Doug Rogan, and Christopher and Michael Turner II.

Arrangements by Smith Family Funeral Home-North.

Curtis, your sweet smile will be always missed by us all. We love you very much.
