Robert L. Booker

Robert L. Booker, 63, of New Haven died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

He was born July 30, 1938, in Lincolnton, Georgia to the late Potlee and Sadie (Wright) Booker.

Mr. Booker retired from the New Haven Foundry.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Charlotte Joyce) Anderson of Detroit; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell (Sherri) Booker of Lansing and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon (Mary) Booker of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Samantha Anderson, Miles Johnson, Latasha Booker and Christina Booker; sister, Mary Harris of Lexington, N.C.; two brothers, Willie and Lonnie Booker, both of Augusta, Ga; special friend and companion, Marjorie Blackmon of New Haven; two sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Gertrude) Jones and Ethel McCants; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene on March 28, 1985.

Viewing hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. John Mack of Greater New Hope Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Anderson, Mitchell Booker, Vernon Booker and Booker Snow.

Benjamin R. Boyd

Benjamin Russell Boyd, 61, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at his home in Traverse City.

He was born to the late Rev. William John Boyd and the late Sarah Boyd.

Ben attended Port Huron schools, graduating in 1958 from Port Huron High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball. During his senior year, he lead the basketball team in scoring and assists, received the team MVP, and was named to the All-EML Team and Detroit News All-State 3rd Team. After graduating from Port Huron Junior College where he played basketball, Ben attended Central Michigan University where he received his bachelor of science in education in 1964 and his master's degree in English in 1966. He taught English Literature courses at CMU from 1965 to 1971 when he was named "Professor of the Year."

In 1964 and 1965 he won the college regionals in pocket billiards and, in 1965, finished second in the National Intercollegiate Pocket Billiards Tournament. He won many pocket billiards tournaments including the Michigan State Open Tournament in 1965. He also played in the U.S. Open Pocket Billiards Championship in 1968 and played exhibition matches against Willie Mosconi, Jimmy Caras and Rudolph "Minnesota Fats" Walderone.

Ben took up tennis, won many area tournaments, and became the tennis professional at Sugarloaf Resort from 1975 to 1978. In August 2000, he entered the Robinson Tennis Tournament in Port Huron, and won the 55 and over men's singles title. He often competed in the Traverse City YMCA Supersports Competition winning the overall event in 1978 and 1979. In 1996, Ben was elected to the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame.

For many years, Ben was a client services manager for Grand Traverse-Leelanau Community Mental Health Services, and more recently worked at A.T.S.

He is survived by his brother, Paul (Nancy) Boyd of Colorado; his sister, Joanne (Kenneth) Maxon of Naples, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Boyd of Port Huron and Toni Boyd of Shelbyville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Worden and his brothers, Raymer, Mansel, William "Bill, " George, Donald and Carl Boyd.

Relatives and friends of Ben are welcome to attend a memorial service to be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, in the Traverse City Christian Church, 225 W. 14th St. Traverse City.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame or the charity of the donor's choice.

Local arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.

Ben touched many lives and helped many people throughout his lifetime. His presence, kindness, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing the "Irish Prince."

Eugene C. Bristle

Eugene Clair Bristle, 73, of Port Huron and the world's best husband and father, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Mercy Hospital.

He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Evart Township to the late Revs. Emmanuel and Wave Bayless Bristle.

He married Myrtle J. Johnson in March 1954 in Port Huron.

Mr. Bristle was a former employee of St. Clair Rubber Co.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a past member of VFW May O'Brien Post 8465 and a member of VFW Marysville-St. Clair Post 2340. He enjoyed bowling and hunting and dearly loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; five daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight (Mary) French of Warren, Schemida MacDonald of Fort Gratiot, Mr. and Mrs. John (Linda) Stoner of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Bonnie) Borowski of Fort Gratiot and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Ernestine) MacDonald of Croswell; a son, Robert Bristle of Germany; 15 grandchildren; six great-gr-andchildren; five sisters, Louise Pan, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Dorothy) Blay, the Rev. Ruth Hall, all of Florida, the Revs. Roy (Faith) Marsack of Marlette, and Mr. and Mrs. Doug (Wave) Hannan of Port Huron; four brothers, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles (Martha) Bristle of Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel (Ellen) Bristle of North Carolina, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Margaret) Bristle of Flint and Mr. and Mrs. John (Donna) Bristle of Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wisswell; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jim (Debbie) Fleury, Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Michelle) Pincomb, Mr. and Mrs. Percy (Joann) Singles, Mr. and Mrs. Herb (Fran) McIntosh and Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Achatz.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Bristle Jr.; two brothers, Donald and Robert Bristle; and a sister, Betty.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, in Trinity Episcopal Church, Lexington. The Rev. Darryl Pigeon will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell cemetery, Kimball Township.

Pallbearers will be Jim Fleury, Mike Borowski, Jerry Mac- Donald, Dwight French, Ed Pincomb and John Stoner.

Graveside military honors will be under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Robert L. Brehler

Robert L. Brehler, 72, of Burtchville Township died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in his home.

He was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Detroit, to the late Joseph and Cecelia Markhart Brehler.

He married Toni Galloway on March 18, 1967, in Detroit.

Mr. Brehler was a supervisor with the Detroit Metropolitan Water Department. He was a member of the Burtchville Township Tax Review Board and the Zoning and Planning Commission. He loved motorcycles, flying, camping, canoeing and model building . He was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife, Toni; three children, Lee Ann Brehler and her husband, Murray Vrooman of Clinton Township, Carol Nickels and her husband, Jeffrey, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Timothy Brehler of Hilton Head, S.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Robert and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Steven.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Central Lakeport United Methodist Church. The Rev. Susan K. Freeland will officiate.

Burial will be in Burtchville Township cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Loren Moore, Michael Moore, Don Moore, Martin Zuhler, Paul Johnson and Robert Jones.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to con-sider Central Lakeport United Methodist Church or Safe Horizons.

Sue Ann Darling

Sue Ann (Letts) Darling, 65, of Port Huron Township passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 20, 1936, in Port Huron.

Her husband of 30 years, Eldon "Al" Darling, her parents, George and Dorothy Letts, her step-son, Edward Darling, and her stepgrandson, Bryan Repp preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Arthur J. (Pamela) Darling; her granddaughter, Melody Rosenberg; loving sisters, Dorothy (Chester) Dulyea and Monna (Michael) Selepack of Port Huron; her step-children, Deborah (James) Hillock, Daniel Darling Sr.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Darling; mother-in-law, Nina Mae Darling; brother-in-law, Richard (Janie) Darling of Port Huron; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Marc) Cote of Ocala, Fla.; cousin, Gerald (Shirley Ann) Campbell of Port Huron; very loving, caring and special friends, Don and Jackie Kelley, Elmore and Patricia Shoudy, Betty Haken of Port Huron, Prudence Kilbourne of Tampa, Fla.; her special pet of 14 years, Candy; several step-grandchildren, step-great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be at a later date.

Anyone wishing to make donations in her memory may make them to the Blue Water Hospice.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron.

Theodore Nofs

Theodore T. Nofs, 90, died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at home with family nearby. Ted had been waiting since New Years day of 2004 when his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, passed away, for God to call him home.

Born November 2, 1914, in Port Huron, Ted was the youngest of 11 children of Bernard and Augusta Nofs and was a lifelong resident of the Port Huron area.

Ted retired from Mueller Brass Co in 1976 after 42 years of service. Many hobbies kept him busy over the years including bicycle repair, watch and clock repair and cutting fire wood. A special delight for Ted was playing Santa Claus at Christmas for his family and friends. He was also a very talented woodworker and carpenter having built his own home and the furnishings within it. He was known to his family and friends as "Popoo".

Ted is survived by his son, William J. (Theresa) Nofs of Avoca; his daughters, Dorothy A. Conklin of Fort. Gratiot and Christine M. (Fred) Fralick of Port Huron; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Bernard Arnold of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and his 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in KarrerSimpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Chaplain of Marwood Nursing and Rehab will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours for Ted will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Gordon W. Davis

Gordon W. Davis, 51, of Smiths Creek died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in his home.

He was born March 14, 1950, in Port Huron to Norman W. and Patricia Louise Coleman Davis.

He married Vickie Dean Tomlinson on June 26, 1982, in Port Huron.

Mr. Davis was employed with Morton Salt Co. for 17 years and Port Huron Area School District for 13 years.

He enjoyed classic cars, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie; three sons, Gordon Davis of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Denise) Hyde and Jason Hyde, all of Smiths Creek; two daughters, April Bergman of Port Huron and Diana Hyde of Smiths Creek; six grandchildren, Jonathon Crerar, Kyle Hyde, Kendall Bergman, and Andrew, Adam and Aaron Davis; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Patricia) Davis of Smiths Creek; three brothers, Mr. and Mrs. James (Kim) Davis of Anchorage, Alaska, Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Mary) Davis of Smiths Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis (Debbie) Davis of Kimball Township; three sisters, Crystal Vickery of Port Huron, Mr. and Mrs. John (Barb) Fanion of Goodells and Kathy Ramsey of Burtchville Township; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends, including Pat and Bill Hillis.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Russell L. DeFrain

Russell L. DeFrain, 89, of Port Huron died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in his home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Bay City and lived here since 1951. He married Gladys A. Smalley on Nov. 29, 1936, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Church, Harbor Beach.

Russ was employed 29 years at Mueller Brass Co. until he retired in 1977. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church and an usher. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and the Red Cross and the Mid-City Nutrition Program. Russ enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys A. DeFrain of Port Huron; his sons, Russell F. (Marilyn) DeFrain of Port Huron, Norman G. (Linda) DeFrain of Phrump, Nev., and Douglas A. DeFrain of Centerville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, George DeFrain and Leonard (Eileen) DeFrain, both of Harbor Beach; his sisters, Agatha Zellman of St. Petersburg, Fla., Fernade Hopton of Brighton, Katherine Widdows of Sunset, Ariz., and Sarah Healey of Grand Rapids; and his nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Rene L. Desmarais, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lake Huron cemetery, Harbor Beach.

Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Church.

Bertha I. Heidenrich

Bertha I. Heidenrich, 89, of Fort Gratiot died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Evangelical Home of Port Huron.

She was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Deckerville to the late William and Eva (Perry) Mathieson. She married Henry J. Heidenrich in Port Huron on April 5, 1930. He died Dec. 14, 1988.

Mrs. Heidenrich was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking homemade bread and apple pies.

Mrs. Heidenrich is survived by two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Annette) Heidenrich and Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Heidenrich, both of Smiths Creek; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Marian) Walters of Petoskey and Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Irene) Parmann of Fort Gratiot; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ted (Mary Ellen) Artman of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Ivan Benedict will officiate.

Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Victor Parmann Jr., John Parmann, Henry Heidenrich Jr., Floyd Heidenrich, Jeff Heidenrich and Larry Lick Jr.
