James F. Glenn

James F. Glenn, 66, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of Port Huron, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002.

He was born May 1, 1935, in Port Huron to the late Myrtle and Thomas Glenn.

He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge and loved to watch auto racing.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Glenn of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Karry J. (Wayne) Bland of Fort Gratiot, Kathy K. Glenn of Port Huron, Korin E. (Jackson) Armstrong of Avoca and Kim A. (Paul) Hazelwood of Port Huron; grandchildren, Richard and Leeann J. Bland, and Rebecca and Sarah Cairns; brothers, Thomas (Lola) Glenn of Port Huron and Owen Glenn of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; sisters, Marjay (David) Anthony of Burtchville Township and Millie (Vern) Hillman, of Brown City; and two stepdaughters, Deborah (Brian) Wagg of Port Huron and Kimberly (Ronald) Holzberger of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karren L. Toles Glenn.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard L. Shelton of Riverside Tabernacle Church of God will officiate.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

James T. Hinkle

James T. Hinkle, 35, of Kimball Township passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002.

He was born to James and Kathleen Hinkle on Aug. 2, 1966, in Port Huron.

He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1984.

He was an electrician working out of I.B.E.W. Local 58.

Jim enjoyed lifting weights, fishing and traveling up north. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children.

He was a very outgoing person and was a loving father, son and brother.

He is survived by his three sons, James T. III and Dylan J. Hinkle, both of Smiths Creek, and Sheldon H. Hinkle of St. Clair Shores; his parents, James T. and Kathleen M. Hinkle of Kimball Township; his grand-parents, John and Ruth Cummins of Port Huron; his sister, Ursula (Joseph) McKenzie of North Street; his brother, Jerome (Amy) Hinkle of Port Huron; his niece, Samantha Hinkle; two nephews, Jacob and Caleb Hinkle; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his special extended family, the Kenneys of Goodells.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorraine Sample, A. Lynn Sample and Thomas E. Irwin.

Cremation has taken place.

There will be a service in James's memory at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Smith Family Funeral Home- North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate.

Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in his memory to a fund for his three children.

Augusta Bleau

Augusta M. Bleau, 88, of Port Huron, died August 2, 2005 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab.

She was born November 22, 1916 in Detroit and has lived here since 1939.

Augusta married Laurence Weese in February, 1938. He died in January of 1957. She then married Robert A. Bleau in June, 1959. Bob Died March 15, 2000.

Augusta was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Warren. She was employed as the veteran's counselor at the St. Clair County Department of Veteran's Affairs for 31 years, retiring in 1979. She was a former member of First Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and St. Clair County Retirees.

From her marriage to Bob Bleau, Augusta is survived by his children, Joyce E. (Dominic) Giampietro of Merced, CA, Dorothy E. (Richard) Bublitz of Fort Gratiot, Alma (George) BleauSmith of Fresno, CA and David R. (Grettalea) Bleau of Englewood, CO; 18 grandchildren; 28 greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild..

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at KarrerSimpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Chaplain at Marwood Nursing and Rehab will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service 11:30 a.m. Friday

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be directed to Blue Water Hospice or Marwood Nursing & Rehab.

Thomas R. Houston

Thomas R. Houston, 74, of Fort Gratiot died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Port Huron to the late Wilson and Marie Bowers.

He married Nancy Lee Johnston on Dec. 19, 1969, in Port Huron.

Tom was employed 27 1/2 years at Mueller Brass Co., retiring in 1978. He was a member of Mueller Brass Quarter Century Club.

Tom loved to work on woodcrafts and his train sets. He also enjoyed fixing his vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee Houston of Fort Gratiot, his son, Hans (Alexandria) Houston of Port Huron; his daughters, Judi (Robert) Worden of Croswell and Julie Ann Johnston of Fort Gratiot; his son, Gary (Jean) Houston of Port Huron; his grandchildren, Michelle Louks and fiance, Jason LaRowe, Richard Conrad II, Melvin Frank Prosser and Heather and Sara Houston; his great-grandchildren, Stephan Kinert, Jayson and Joseph LaRowe and Skye Marie Conrad; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Herb (Nancy) Dandron and Virginia (John) Marra; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John; and his aunts, Mildred Hunter and Margaret Hartwig.

Cremation has taken place.

There will be no services.

Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.

Service arrangements are by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Francis "Frank" Howard

Francis "Frank" Howard, 77, of Marysville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Mercy Hospital.

He was born March 1, 1924, in Port Huron to the late Ralph and Helen Stanislowski Howard.

He married Dorothy Lonsbury on Oct. 5, 1974, in Port Huron.

Mr. Howard was a bus driver and instructor for Greyhound Bus Lines for 34 years until his retirement in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the Men's Club.

Mr. Howard enjoyed his family, liked to read and play cards and dabbled in model railroading.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Dorothy, are four sons, Mr. and Mrs. James (Donna) Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Jane) Howard and Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Lynda) Howard, all of Port Huron, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Mary) Howard of Marysville; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Jlynn) Stout of Sandy Forks, Texas; three stepchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher (Melanie) Abston of Dearborn, Mr. and Mrs. Greg (Theresa) Smith of Savannah, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Valorie) Cohen of Los Gatos, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. James (Shelly) Howard Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Michelle) Ainsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Kristine) Howard II, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Michelle) How-ard, Brendan, Kevin, Brian and Heather Howard, David Stout, Alecia, Caleb and Keanna Abston, Justin, Trisha and Elliott Barnett and Shelby, Madeline and Jarred Smith; 6 great-grand-children, Tyler and Austin Ainsworth, Kelsey, Madeline and Curtis Howard and Zak Barnett; three sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Helen) Ceglarek, Barbara Becktold and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Robert and Charles Howard; a brother-in-law, William Becktold; and a nephew, Frederick Becktold.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Marysville Funeral Home.

Mr. Howard will lie in state in Pilgrim Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001. The Rev. Bill Bendert will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery, Marysville.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to con-sider Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Patricia Ann Jex

Patricia Ann Jex, 49, of Port Huron passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Mercy Hospital in Port Huron after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 8, 1952, in Port Huron to Floyd O. "Red" and Catherine M. "Katie" Colley and was a lifelong area resident.

Patricia married Gerald E. Jex Jr. on Sept. 11, 1981, in Westhaven Baptist Church.

She was a loving and devoted mother to Keith Wayne Thompson.

Patricia enjoyed volunteering at the Blue Water Independent Living Center. She had a great love for children and was lovingly known as "Patty-Pooh" to many children of family, friends and neighbors.

Pat took great pleasure in making craft items with her husband, Jerry, for family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald E. Jex Jr.; her foster son, Keith W. Thompson; her mother, Catherine M. Colley; two sisters, Mary E. Myers and Georgi A. Kooiker; two brothers, Peter M. Colley and Douglas A. Colley; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald H. Myers, Deborah L. Colley and Gerald S. Kooiker; her nieces and nephews, Linda L. Villerot, Ronald H. Myers Jr., Michael A. Myers, Jessica M. Colley, Jamie L. Colley, Douglas A. Colley Jr., Jeremy S. Kooiker, Melissa J. Kooiker and Joshua T. Kooiker; four great-nieces and great-nephews, John L. Villerot, Christopher F. Ross, Cassandra L. Ross and Nicole M. Ross; special friends, Josette Higgins, Lori Dandron, Kathy Woodard, Julie Aggleston, and "Miss Ruby;" and a host of others.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd O. Colley, on Oct. 8, 1984.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in Westhaven Baptist Church, 4070 W. Water St. The Rev. John Arnold, pastor of Westhaven Baptist Church, will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., at 17th Street.

Charles J. Jex

Charles J. Jex, 79 of Marysville, MI passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002 in Port Huron Hospital. He was born to Charles and Edna Pearl Jex on February 7, 1922 in Port Huron and attended the Port Huron area schools graduating from Port Huron High School in 1940. He then attended Port Huron Jr. College and the University of Michigan before joining the U.S. Navy. He served three years during World War II and seventeen months during the Korean Conflict.

On November 7, 1942 Charles married Trudi Nelson. He worked for the Detroit Edison Co. for 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a former member of the Port Huron Jaycees, the Detroit Jaycees, and was named the Detroit Jaycees Man of the Year in 1957-58. He was a member of the I.M.C. where he served as President in 1971.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Port Huron serving in various capacities at the church including Moderator, Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Worship Leader, and Bible Study Leader. He was a licensed lay minister. He also served in various offices with the American Baptist Churches of Michigan and was a former President of Michigan Baptist Homes helping the organization to return to solvency.

He was a member and active supporter of the YMCA where he served as President of the Board of Directors in 1981-82. He also served as a volunteer in pastoral care at Mercy Hospital, and as President of the Greenview Condominium Association, Marysville. Over the years he enjoyed playing golf and played in the Seniors League at Marysville Golf Course.

Charles is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Trudi Jex, Marysville, MI.; his two daughters Kay (Tom) Yuhasz, Marysville, MI and Sue (Curtis) Dressler, Rochester Hills, MI; three grandsons Chris (Sarah) Miciek, New Britain, Connecticut, John Dressler, Lake Orion, MI, and Paul (Heidi) Dressler, Davenport, Iowa; and two great grandchildren Elliot and Katrina Miciek.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in First Baptist Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Daniel Bakay, Pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, and on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. The St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council will also assist with the service.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church, YMCA, or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Joseph E. Kalaf

Joseph E. Kalaf, 67, of Port Huron went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in his home with his family at his side, after a short illness.

He was born April 6, 1934, in Meta, Mo., and lived here since 1945. He married Mildred A. Beach on Oct. 12, 1957, in St. Edwards Church.

Joe retired from SEMCO Energy in 1997. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Stephen High School. He was a member of St. Mary Church and loved the St. Mary community. He was a past member of the Men's Club and the Parish Council and helped establish their bingo. He enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, fishing, working crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred A. Kalaf of Port Huron; his sons, Alan J. Kalaf of Ann Arbor and David (Kristine) Kalaf of Port Huron; his daughter, Deborah (Brian) Griffin of Alto; his grandchildren, Jessica, David and Jenelle Kalaf and Anthony and Jillian Griffin; his brothers, John Kalaf of Port Huron, Maurice (Rita) Kalaf of Forestville and George (Janis) Kalaf of California; his sisters, Juliet Shamaly of Mount Clemens, Mary (Archie) Sams of Port Huron, Alice Fincher of Sterling Heights, Loraine (Donald) Kloeppel of Kansas City and Gloria Weston of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sadie (Shamaly) Kalaf and his sister, Martha Kalaf.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Church, Bluewater Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
