John L. Pardee

John L. Pardee Sr., 87, of Port Huron died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Bay City to the late Benjamin and Ada Pardee.

He married Julia Mary Fenner on Aug. 29, 1936.

Mr. Pardee was plant manager at Mueller Brass Co. and retired after 40 years of service. He also worked along with his father, Benjamin, in the family commercial fishing business.

He served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier, USS Cabot, during World War II. He also served in the National Guard, protecting the Blue Water Bridge as it was being built.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, camping and his family.

He was a member of the Mueller Brass Quarter Century Club, Fort Gratiot Lodge 374 F.&A.M., Huron Chapter 27 Royal Arch Masons, Port Huron Commandry 7 and May-O'Brien V.F.W. Post 8465.

He will be sadly missed by his family who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Elmore (Patricia) Shoudy; 10 grandchildren, David (Tara) Pardee, Dan (Sue) Shoudy, David (Mary) Shoudy, Todd (Debbie) Shoudy, Tyler (Rosaria) Shoudy, Linda (Henry) Thomas, Julie (Rusty) Fournier, Susan (Dave) Miller, Julie Pardee and John Pardee III; 24 great-grandchildren, Danielle Shoudy, Michael Thomas, Jillian Thomas, Jason Shafran, Jenny Shafran, David Miller, Joshua Shoudy, Nathan Shoudy, Jake Shoudy, Laura Shoudy, Rachel Shoudy, Tiffany Shoudy, Tristan Shoudy, Trevor Shoudy, Taty-anah Shoudy, Tyler Shoudy, Michael Scott, Matthew Scott, Amanda Roberts, Ashley Four-nier, Andrea Fournier, Chelsea Fournier, Hannah Pardee and Elliott Pardee; two sisters, Joanne and Charlene; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Leslie Pardee Jr.; grandson, Robert Shoudy; great-grandson, Gregory Shoudy; a sister; and three brothers.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

A Masonic memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert P. Trask of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Pardee, Dan, David, Todd and Tyler Shoudy, Henry Thomas, Rusty Fournier and David Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Krupp, Harvey Fenner and Frank Schroeder.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to con-sider Grace Episcopal Church.

John R. Parker

John R. Parker, 71, of Port Huron passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Mercy Hospital.

He was born to Percy and Cletice Parker on March 16, 1930, in Carsonville.

He was employed at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad for nearly 35 years before retiring in 1988.

John was a member of Elks Lodge 343 B.P.O.E., Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3702 and the Grayling Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and play golf. He also loved to play cards, especially euchre, and socialize with his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie Parker of Port Huron; three children, Robert (Hope) Parker, Judy Ann Parker and Cathy Ann Johnson, all of Port Huron; five stepchildren; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold (Vi) Parker and James Parker, both of Kimball Township, and William Evans of Lexington Heights; one sister, Mary Lou Evans of Orlando, Fla.; five nieces; and his special friends, Bart and Edna Bartlett of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Donald Parker.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Smith Family Funeral Home- South, 1230 Seventh St.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in John's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ronald J. Platzer

Ronald J. Platzer, 62, of Fort Gratiot died unexpectedly Jan. 31, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital's emergency room.

He was born July 20, 1939, in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident. He married Sally J. Anglebrandt on Sept. 7, 1963, in Port Huron.

Mr. Platzer was a 1957 graduate of St. Stephen High School where he was active in sports. He was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame as a member of a Champion Fast Pitch softball team. He was a member of the Port Huron Braves baseball team. He was a retired employee of Domtar, formerly Port Huron Paper Co. Ron was an avid sports fan and memorabilia collector, and in 2001 he realized his lifetime dream of visiting all the Major League baseball parks in America.

He is survived by his wife, Sally J. Platzer of Fort Gratiot; his sons, Joel (Sue) Platzer of Port Huron and Ronald J. Platzer of Chicago, Ill.; his brother, Jody F. (Cindy) Platzer of Lakeport; his sister-in-law, Mary E. (John) Livingston of Portage; his nephews, Peter (Connie) Livingston and family of Kalamazoo and Dr. Andrew (Marianne) Livingston and family of East Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Platzer and his brother, Mickey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Fred Hopp, Dave Miller, Glen Murray, Ralph Dimmick, Ron Vercnocke and Tom Devereaux.

Memorials may be made to the Port Huron Hospital Stroke Club; Mercy Hospital Stroke Club or St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Ernestine M. Reilly

Ernestine M. Reilly, 85, of Port Huron died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness.

She was born June 3, 1916, in Deckerville, the daughter of the late Homer and Atta Spencer.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Ellen Smith; her grandsons, Wilford and Paul Smith; her great-grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney, Brandon and Nicholas Smith; a sister, Berla Lancaster; a brother, Fredric Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Wilford Smith and Cedric Reilly; brothers, Frazer, Clarence, Arthur and Lloyd Spencer; and sisters, Bernice Boychuck and Mable Oswald.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. Burial will be in Caswell cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Helen Marie Rowbotham

Helen Marie Rowbotham, 77, of Port Huron died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, after a short illness.

She was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Port Huron to the late Clair and Hattie Doman Norris.

She married Fred Rowbotham on June 14, 1944, in Port Huron.

Mrs. Rowbotham was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Yale and its Bear Ladies Group.

She loved being around her family and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Fred; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Freddy (Diane) Rowbotham of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. Jay (Gayle) Rowbotham of Avoca; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Lon (Sandra) Middleton of Smiths Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Dave (Gail) Middleton of Avoca; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and bro-ther, Mr. and Mrs. Clair (Sue) Norris Jr. of Marysville.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Norris.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Elder Chris Wolf of First Presbyterian Church, Yale, will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Raymond, Brian and Josh Rowbotham, Kyle Schultz, Lonnie Middleton, Kevin Ouellette, Fred Wilson and Matt Gladchun.

Frances W. Taylor

Frances W. Taylor, 95, of Port Huron passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Marwood Manor Nursing Home.

She was born to William and Lillie Walters on Nov. 2, 1906, in China Township and married John H. Taylor in Port Huron. He passed away Aug. 20, 1967.

Frances managed the cosmetics department at Sperry's Department Store for many years retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Clair. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting for her church.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert K. (Joan) Taylor of Palm Coast, Fla., and James W. Taylor of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Catherine (James) Martin of Socorro, N.M., Christine (Clarence) Cadreau of Sault Ste. Marie, Constance (Jeffrey) Meyers of Warwick, R.I., Caroline (Timothy) O'Hare of Oak Ridge, N.C., Judith Taylor of Irvine, Calif., and Jeffrey Taylor of Boulder, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Taylor of Mahapac, N.Y., and Raymond (Verda) and Melvin (Irene) Taylor, both of St. Clair; four sisters, Alice Walters of Port Huron, Florence Sass of Marysville, Evelyn Emig of St. Clair and Inez (Robert) Abbott of Harrison Township; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Walters.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Garnet Haase, pastor of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service.

Contributions may be made in Frances's memory to St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Jean I. Banta

Mrs. Jean Isabelle Banta, 88, of Port Huron went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 4, 2002, in Marwood Nursing and Rehab after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 11, 1913, in London, Ontario to the late John Fraser and Matilda Isabelle Axford.

She married Harold Vernon Banta on Aug. 27, 1941, in Bryan, Ohio. He died on Sept. 26, 1966.

Jean was a chef at Kresge's and Chick's Road House for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna of Port Huron.

She also is survived by numerous relatives in the Fraser, Axford and Weaver Families.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave., at 17th Street. Evangelist Harold Hastings of Community of Christ will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Jeanne S. Bottomley

Jeanne S. Bottomley of Port Huron died Friday, March 1, 2002 in Port Huron Hospital.

She was born May 15, 1918, in Ann Arbor and has lived in the Port Huron area for more than 50 years. She married Thomas H. Bottomley M.D. on June 6, 1942, in Port Huron. Dr. Bottomley died Dec. 6, 1982.

After graduation from Ann Arbor High School, Jeanne attended Denison University and graduated in 1939 with a bachelor of arts in history. While at Denison, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a founding member of the McMorran Authority and Town Hall, and was a former member of Port Huron Golf Club, Port Huron Yacht Club and was past president of the Port Huron Hospital Auxilary and past volunteer of the St. Clair County Library and Mid City Nutrition Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. (Christine) Gaffney; grandson, Thomas Jay (Heather L.) Gaffney; and great-grandson, Thomas William Gaffney, all of Port Huron; a cousin, Barbara Macdonald of Hutchinson, Kan.; and many close friends.

Jeanne also was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Port Huron, with The Rev. Charles Hoffacker officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, The St. Clair County Library or the Community Foundation of St. Clair County "Walter K. Brooks Fund."
