Milton Bruhns
Milton F. Bruhns, 88, of Port Huron passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born to Frederick and Sonja Bruhns on Jan. 20, 1914.
He married
Sopha Urie on Feb. 5, 1940.
Milton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in both World War II and the Korean conflict.
He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1972 and later worked as a security guard for Great Lakes Security.
He was a member of Smiths Creek American Legion Post 525.
He loved the outdoors, enjoyed working around his home and was an avid gardener. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his six children, Sharon, Michael (Kathleen), Deborah, Mark (Penny), Kevin and Frederick Bruhns, all of Port Huron; four grand- children, Jeremy, Melissa, Kate and Taylor Bruhns; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sopha, on Aug. 31, 1985; a grandson, Michael Bruhns; and a sister, Marianne Andrade.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Smith Family Funeral Home- North, 1525 Hancock St.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery under the direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Mark Blanchard, Joe and Dennis Lynch, Larry Fiedler, Steve Stoetzer and Jim Gillis.

Anna Blessinger
Anna E. Blessinger, 87, loving wife of the late John A. Blessinger, a longtime Port Huron area resident, and currently a resident of Rochester Hills, traveled the long journey home to be with John on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003.
She was mother and friend to her four daughters, Jane, Eleanor (deceased), Marge and Teri, all of whom provided her with the pleasure of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anna will be remembered by family and friends as the lady who always smiled, gave freely, and had time for everyone.
Friends may join Anna's family at the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St., for a visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery at a later time.
Contributions may be made in Anna's memory to Blue Water Hospice.
Lavina Borkowski
Lavina E. Borkowski, 89, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Barton City, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003.
She was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Port Huron and lived here until 30 years ago, when she moved to Barton City. She returned here seven months ago.
She married
Francis J. Borkowski, who died Dec. 1, 1991.
Lavina was a retired employee of Autolite with 30 years of service. The company was later known at Prestolite.
She was a member of St. Anne's Church, Harrisville.
Lavina was an avid gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed hunting and fishing.
She is survived by three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:15 a.m. Monday until the time of services in the church. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Beatrice Brokos
Beatrice M. Brokos, 70, of Port Huron Township died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in her residence after a short illness.
She was born July 24, 1932, in Port Huron, the daughter of the late Harry and Allie Walker.
She married
George Brokos. He died Nov. 16, 2000.
Mrs. Brokos worked for General Motors Corp. and was a former bartender at the Streamline Bar.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 8 and the VFW Post 796 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed bingo and the casinos.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Raydean Nichols of Port Huron; her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Terry Brandenburg of Biloxi, Miss.; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sue Nichols of Port Huron; her daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and John Collins and Deborah and David Kitchen, all of Port Huron; her daughter, Marilyn Allen (Jeff Osgood) of Port Huron; her sons and daughters- in-law, John and Lydia Nichols of Carsonville and Kenneth and Karin Nichols of Germany; her daughter, Darlene Nichols (Fred Ottaway) of Port Huron; her stepchildren, Sharon Richard and Linda Evans, both of Port Huron; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Hazel Spangenburg and Dorothy Smarch; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Nichols; and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Pastor Don Sperling will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The VFW and American Legion Auxiliary Post 8 will have a service at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Rob Nichols, Don Nichols, Chuck Nichols, Scott Herriman, David Kitchen, Fred Allen, Bill Kitchen and David Benjamin.

Edward J. Bondar
Edward J. Bondar, 72, of Marysville died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in his home.
He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Hazel Park, and had lived here for the past 16 years.
He married
Christine N. Suchy in 1957 in Detroit.
Ed retired from Detroit Edison Co. in 1990.
He was active in the union, Multi Lakes Conservation Club, Marysville VFW Post 2340 and American Legion Post 449.
Ed served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953.
He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
Ed was there for everyone in time of need, especially his family.
He is survived by his wife, Christine N. Bondar of Marys-ville; daughters, Anne Marie (Terry) Basel of Rogers City, Janet C. Blair of Harbor Springs, Michelle P. Wright of Port Huron, Donna E. (Kyle) Kowa-lewsky of Posen and Kathleen J. Janks of Port Huron; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Anna, Joseph, Ashley, Dylan, Sadie, Hannah and Etta.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Patricia Marie Wright, on Sept. 24, 1999; and his parents, Joseph and Marie Bondar.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Edward's On-the- Lake Catholic Church, The Rev. Joseph M. Esper, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Friday in the church.
A Scripture service will be 8 p.m. Thursday.
Military graveside services will be under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Carolyn J. McKenzie
Carolyn J. McKenzie, 76, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Port Huron Hospital, surrounded and supported by her family.
She was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Port Huron to the late Eldon J. and Ethyl L. Duncan. She married
Elton R. McKenzie on Nov. 23, 1946, in Fort Gratiot Methodist Church.
Mrs. McKenzie graduated from Port Huron High School in 1944, received her bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State University in 1948 and her masters of arts degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1968. Carolyn completed more than 30 years of teaching, with the last 25 years in the Port Huron Area School District, primarily at Keewahdin Elementary School. Next to her family, her greatest pleasure and rewards in life were from teaching in the first grade classroom. She was a member of First Congregational Church. After retiring, her interests included creating museum quality, counted cross-stitch samplers, heart healthy cooking and cultivating African violets.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Elton; three sons, Duncan J. McKenzie of Chicago, Scott R. McKenzie of Las Vegas and Mr. and Mrs. Brian R. (Jill) McKenzie of Grand Blanc; two grandsons, Collin and Sean McKenzie; a sister, Mr and Mrs. Anthony (Lynn) Sullivan of San Francisco; three nephews, Sean and Quinn Sullivan and Fred Stanley; and a niece, Becky Salisbury.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Dr. Ronald Smith will officiate.
