William Cooke
Mr. William Edward Cooke, 79, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 in his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Windsor Canada to the late Frank and Hilda Cooke.
He married
Julia Elizabeth Runyan on Aug. 23, 1947 in Grayling, Michigan.
Mr. Cooke was co-owner of Delta Tire Service in Port Huron for 30 years and was a realtor with John Rowling Real Estate for over 20 years.
He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Noruh Grotto M.O.V.P.E.R. He loved the outdoors, hunting and enjoyed building things.
He is survived by his wife, Julia; four daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Penny) Brennan of North Street, Julia Elizabeth Coats of Lakeport, Connie Cooke-Kinnee of Jeddo and Virginia Willey of Avoca; ten grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; a sister, May Pagen of Dearborn; a brother Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Betty) Cooke of California; and several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Nancy Lou Cooke, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. Scott Stapleford of North Street Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Springhill cemetery, Fargo on Tuesday, May 27, 2003. Mr. Cooke's grandchildren will be pallbearers.

Thomas Bramer
Mr. Thomas L. Bramer, 89, of Port Huron, died Monday, June 2, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital.
He was born May 17, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Herman and Roseanne Bramer. He married
Lydia E. Langolf on November 16, 1946 in the bride's family home in Port Huron.
Mr. Bramer retired from Grand Trunk Western Rail Road and formerly worked at Westside Dairy and Lay's Furniture. Mr. Bramer served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Remount Division and trained mules for the Mules Mauraders. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, American Legion Charles Hammond Post #8, and Port Huron Lodge #58 F. & A. M. Mr. Bramer had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to dance and help his wife with crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia; two nieces, Judy Ball of Phoenix, Arizona and Linda Bramer; several nephews including a special nephew, William Broadstone of St. Louis, Missouri; two great nieces, Roseanne and Michelle Ball of Phoenix; a sister-in-law, Elaine Bramer of Grosse Pointe Farms; a cousin, Ruth Lentz of Eagle, Colorado; and many dear friends including Jerry and Amy Elliott and Lisa O'Brien. A brother, William Bramer, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend William B. Terry of St. John's United Church of Christ will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.
Interment will be in Allied Veterans Columbarium, Port Huron. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill and Andrew Broadstone, Jay Daniel, Freddy Hopp, Jerry Elliott and Jerry Burde.
Memorials may be made to the Michigan Heart Association or St. John's United Church of Christ.
Harvey Conger
Harvey Conger Jr., age 76, of Port Huron, died Friday, April 18, 2003 in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 9, 1926 in Port Huron, the son of the late Harvey Sr. and Mignon Conger. He lived here all of his life.
Harvey married
Hazel Curtiss on July 9, 1960 in Port Huron.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Crane Operator for Raymond Construction in Marysville for 32 years, until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #158.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Conger of Port Huron; his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Jack Toles of Port Huron; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diana Conger of Reno, Nevada; daughters, Diane Uresti of Fort Gratiot and Ruth King of Port Huron; his son, Gerald Walker of Port Huron; his daughter, Norma Schroeder of Port Huron; his son and daughter-in-law, Merlin and Karen Walker of Montrose; brothers, Harold Conger of Oklahoma, George Conger of Croswell, Gordon and Judy Conger of Port Huron; sister, Marlene Stein of Florida; sister-in-law, Winnie Conger of Florida; sister-in-law, Dorothy Conger of Florida; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beulah Olson; brothers, Jack, Charles and Herbert Conger; and a son-in-law, Joseph Uresti.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St.
St. Clair Allied Veterans will conduct Military Honors Tuesday in the funeral home.
Private family services will take place.

Leo Burleigh
Leo A. Burleigh, 51, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Dec. 28, 1951 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.
Leo owned and operated Burleigh's Bait & Tackle for many years. He loved his Harley and rode for numerous charitable organizations.
Leo was known as "Mr. Mom" by his children, family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen (Joe) Provost of Port Huron and Jacklynn E. (Todd) Roskey of North Lakeport; son, Leo A. Burleigh II of Port Huron; five grandchildren; his step-mother, Mary Ellen Burleigh of Port Huron; brothers, John W. Burleigh, Ronald R. (Dawn) Burleigh, Donald Burleigh and Christopher (Marci) Burleigh, all of Port Huron; sisters, Vicki (Steve) Palmateer of Port Huron, Deborah Burleigh Woolman of Grand Haven, Karen S. (Jesse) Weber of Port Huron, Margo Bauer of Port Huron, Michelle Sherbut of Kalamazoo and Melinda (Robert) Marzolf of Port Huron; and his brothers, Michael (Christine) Gruver, Mark (Amy) Jaekel and Matthew Jaekel, all of Port Huron.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa A. Burleigh; his father, Jack J. Burleigh; and his mother, Ruth Evelyn Fry.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
A scripture service will be 7 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are requested to the wishes of the family.
Helen Charzynski
Helen Charzynski, age 99, of Burtchville Twp., died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 in her sons home.
She was born to Joseph and Lucinda Szewczyk on May 2, 1903 in Jeziorna, Poland. She immigrated to Detroit, and lived most of her life there.
She has lived in Burtchville Twp. for the past eight years.
She married
Vincent Charzynski on Jan. 15, 1924. He died in May of 1967.
In 1923, Helen immigrated to the United States. She worked for 21 years at the Fisher Building in Detroit and for many years, cared for her husband, Vincent.
She loved her garden, especially her beautiful roses. She also loved to sew, making dresses and other items.
She is survived by her two sons, Leonard (Lucille) Charzynski of Lakeport and Richard (Joan) Charzynski of Utica; seven grandchildren, Chris Glenn of Miami, Florida, Denise (Derry) Dunn of Glen Haven, CO, John (Janice) Charzynski of Jeddo, Kathryn (Stephen) McGarvie of Yale, Mary (Frank) Crone of Glen Haven, CO, Helen (Harold) Grice of Port Huron, Donna (Frank) Wolff of Memphis; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Geneive Charzynski; and a grandson, Steven Charzynski.
The funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church in Lakeport with The Rev. Fr. Joseph Esper officiating.
A graveside committal service will be held at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Detroit.
Pallbearers will be Chris Glenn, John Charzynski, Harold Grice and Stephen McGarvie.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and Friday in the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. There will be a scripture service at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Mass offerings may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church.
Eleene Brewer
Eleene A. Brewer, 78, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Sebring, FL, died Thursday May 15, 2003 in Evangelical Home-Port Huron. Her family is grateful that she is at rest after a difficult illness.
She was born May 23, 1924 in Willmar, Minnesota.
Mrs. Brewer was Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Ann Marie) Endelman of Marysville and Mr. and Mrs. John (Karen) Roth of Port Huron; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Cooley of East Lansing.
Her husband, Hiram W. Brewer, preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003 in All Saints Episcopal Church in Marysville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Cathy McKinney will officiate.

Verna Bonin
Verna F. Bonin Alexander, 94 of Fort Gratiot died Monday, May 26, 2003 in Evangelical Home after a long illness.
She was born May 31, 1908 in Sarnia, Ontario.
She married
her first husband, Frank A. Bonin in 1953, he died August 28, 1965. Her second husband Fred J. Alexander whom she married
in 1972, died November 16, 1979.
Verna lived in the area until 1966 when she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She returned to Port Huron in 1990. Verna was a secretary for Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, Ontario. She was a former member of the Mueller Brass Quarter Century Club, Black River Country Club and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several clubs here and in Florida.
She is survived by her step-daughters, Anita R. Bonin, Port Huron, Carol L. (Robert) Armstrong, St. Louis, MO, Betty Ann Learn, Sarnia, Ontario, and Lorraine D. (Fred) Roche, Zephyrhills, FL; step-son, Ralph T. Bonin, St. Clair Shores, MI; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, St. Mary Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:15 a.m. Friday at the church.
A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Doris Betts
Doris May Betts, 75 of Port Huron, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2003 in Marwood Manor Nursing & Rehab.
She was born to Eugene and Hazel Jolin on October 3, 1927 in Adair, MI and lived all her life in the Port Huron area.
She is survived by six children, James (Anna) Betts, Sheila (Leonard) McDougal, Ozella Chubb, Robert Betts & William Betts, all of Port Huron, and Patricia Lyons, Ocala, FL; 10 grandchildren including a special grandson, Robert Baker; nine great grandchildren, and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Betts (March 7, 1961) and her brother, William Jolin.
Cremation has taken place.
Arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh Street.
Dorothy Borovich
Mrs. Dorothy C. Borovich, 78, of Lakeport, died Sunday, April 20, 2003 in Barss Adult Foster Care Home after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 23, 1924 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Leo and Rose Dombroski and lived here since 1963.
She married
Walter E. Borovich. He died Sept. 18, 1968.
Dorothy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Edward's Church and was a local business woman.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen A. (Brian) Gavin of Lakeport and Susan M. Borovich and Tim, Reinhard of Fort Gratiot; son, Mark S. (Tammy) Borovich of North Street; daughter, Lisa M. (David) Stoneberg of Avoca; daughter-in-law, Mary Borovich (Jeffrey) McClay of Romeo; sister, Eleanor Kline of Fraser; dear friends, Marge Gavin and Joyce Kotsko, both of Port Huron; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Walter E. Borovich II of Aug. 26, 1994.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Edward's Church. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeport cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
