Elizabeth Berry

Mrs. Elizabeth F. Berry, 68, of Fort Gratiot, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital. She was born November 11, 1934 in Detroit to the late Louis and Elizabeth Donka.

Mrs. Berry was a sales representative with Ameritech. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a lunch grandmother at St. Mary Academy. She enjoyed music, theatre and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Mr. & Mrs. James (Pamela) Leslie of Fort Gratiot and Mr. & Mrs. Patrick (Dana) Sullivan of Wales Township, five grandchildren, Sara and Jamie Leslie, Leah, Halie and Patrick Sullivan; a sister, Mary Cleary of Novi; two nieces Kris Cleary & Colleen McMaster; two nephews, Tom and Patrick Cleary; a cousin, Margaret Gardocki; and special family, Larry, Karen & Laura Leslie, the Nolan Family and the Silage Family.

She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Thomas Cleary.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the funeral home.

Mrs. Berry will lie in state at St. Mary Catholic Church Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Mathew George will officiate. The rite of committal will follow at Mount Hope cemetery, Port Huron.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Mary Academy.

Mary Sharkey

Mary C. Sharkey, 83, of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2003 in JFK Hospital, Atlantis, Florida.

She was born March 11, 1920 in Port Huron to the late John and Gertrude Gragowski.

She spent all but the last five years of her life in Port Huron.

She married Clinton Sharkey on Feb. 14, 1942 in Port Huron. He died in 1982.

Mrs. Sharkey retired from the A&P Grocery Store and was a member of the Teamsters Union. She was a graduate of St. Stephens High School and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron and St. Mathews Catholic Church, Lake Worth. She was a lifetime member of the League of Catholic Women and a volunteer at the American Red Cross, Mercy Hospital and Port Huron Hospital.

Mrs. Sharkey was a former member of the Black River Country Club, Willow Ridge Golf Club, American Legion Dance Club and the Square Dance Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Borton of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Jayne) Sharkey of Lake Worth; four grandsons, Christopher Sharkey, Thomas Borton, Keith Sharkey and Chad Borton; a granddaughter, Tiffany Sharkey; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Perry and Mr.a and Mrs. Cyril (Sarah) Adams; her sister-in-law, Eldora Gragowski; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and John Gragowski.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Stanley W. Wyczawski will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery.

LaVerne Silk

Mrs. LaVerne M. "Lorraine" Silk, age 69, of Port Huron, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2003 in her residence unexpectedly.

She was born on April 22, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late George and Marie Mosurak.

Lorraine married LeRoy L. Silk. He passed away on March 15, 1998.

She enjoyed making crafts. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Ron Green of Kimball; son, Fred Silk of Port Huron Twp; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Becky Mosurak of Port Huron; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Mosurak of Jackson; sister, Gloria Middleton of Wisconsin; grandsons, Ted and Kandie Morrison of Wales Twp., and Terry and Cindy Morrison of Kawaii; granddaughters, Kelly and Rob Braner of Kimball, Tiffany and Willy Beach of Grand Rapids, Tina and Brian Watson of Columbiaville, Tammy and Terry Cassidy of Columbiaville, and Shelley Silk; six great grandchildren; a special nephew, Darryl Silk; and several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Ruth Austin of Port Huron; sister-in-law Betty Nowicki of Indiana; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Evelyn Silk of North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Clara Silk of Roscommon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street. Rev. Stanley Wyczawski, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Elk Twp. cemetery.

Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ted Morrison, Lawrence Mosurak Jr., Steven Mosurak, Jeff Mosurak, Bobby Mosurak and Darryl Silk.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Charity of the Donors Choice.

Belle Sheldon

Belle Sheldon, age 82, of Port Huron, died Friday, April 11, 2003 in Marwood Manor after a long illness.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1921 in Alma, daughter of the late Ross and Irene Winden.

Belle married Russell "Tim"Sheldon.

She was a founding member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church and active with the Harvest Dinner. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #170; and a long time cook for the March of Dimes Jail and Bail.

She is survived by her husband, Russell "Tim"Sheldon; son and daughter-in-law, Russell A. "Russ" and Carolyn Sheldon Jr.; son, Loren Sheldon; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy Sheldon, Donald and RayLynn Sheldon, Robbin and Bonnie Sheldon; son, Roger Sheldon; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Greg Hearn; sister, Rose Brown; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church, 5235 Lakeshore Rd., Fort Gratiot. The Rev. William Wingrove, pastor of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003 in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial tributes may be made to Lakeshore Presbyterian Church.

Ila Osborne

Ila Fay Osborne, 66, of Wales Twp., died Friday, April 4, 2003 in Mercy Hospital.

She was born Aug. 10, 1936 in Alabama to the late Lonnie and Bernice Weldon.

She married Ray C. Osborne on Nov. 16, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio. He died Dec. 7, 2002.

Mrs. Osborne loved crocheting, quilting, fishing and cooking for her family.

Mrs. Osborne is survived by three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Chris (Cathy) Matts of Kimball, Carla Wright of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Cheryl) Himmel of Wales Twp.; a son, Robert Osborne of Port Huron; and six grandchildren, Amber, Jason, Jennifer, Thomas, Joshua and Christina Fay.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Michael S. Durning of Mt. Pleasant Bible Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Wales Twp.

Peggy Mack

Peggy A. Mack, age 50, of Port Huron, died in her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 16, 1952 in Port Huron and has lived here for the past two years after living in California and Oregon.

She played in the Women's Hockey League at McMorran as a young woman. She also enjoyed playing the piano and creative writing. She will be remembered also for great sense of humor.

She is survived by her companion, Russell Platzer of Port Huron; two sisters, Linda (John) Harrington and Nancy Hargett, both of California; three nephews, Jason Harrington, Calvin and Mark Hargett, all of California; and a niece, Kari Harrington of California.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. with The Rev. Max Amstutz officiating.

James Kovach

James G. Kovach, age 89, of Fort Gratiot, died Monday, April 14, 2003 in his home after a 6 month illness.

He was born Sept. 13, 1913 in Chicago, IL and lived here since 1938.

His wife, the former Evelyn Varty died October 2, 2002.

Jim was retired employee of Detroit Edison Co. with 30 years of service. He was a Naval veteran of World War II, serving in the pacific under Admiral Halsey. Jim was a parishioner of St. Edward's Church.

He is survived by sons, James W. (Susan) Kovach, Kenockee, MI, John J. (Bonnie) Kovach, Jeddo, Patrick T. (Emily) Kovach, Zeeland, MI, and Gregory P. (JoAnn) Kovach, Fort Gratiot; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held today in St. Edward's Church. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper, Pastor officiated.

Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Those who desire may express sympathy in the form of mass offerings.

Rosella Leslie

Rosella Annabelle "Rose" Leslie, 75, of Port Huron died Monday, April 8, 2003 in Marwood Manor.

She was born December 8, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Charles and Rose Bolcsics.

Mrs. Leslie retired from Riverside Metals in 1991 and decided to stay active by volunteering in the St. Clair County Foster Grandparents Program. Rose loved her extended family that she met over the years at Harrison School, St. Clair County Community College and St. Clair County Health Department as a foster grandma.

She is survived by a son, Robert Leslie of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Mr. and Mrs. Don (Lynnda) Zimmer and Lisa Sanchez; four great grandchildren, Drew and Lyndzey Sanchez and Charlee Lynn and Alexandra Zimmer; two sister, Elizabeth Dellin and Mr. and Mrs. George (Ann) Brennan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Leslie, two sisters, Irene May and Mary Dortman and a brother, Charles Bolcsics.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Dennis Aho, Blue Water Hospice Chaplain will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Port Huron.

Daniel Holliday

Daniel C. Holliday, age 49, of Jeddo, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2003 in his residence after a short illness.

He was born Aug. 18, 1953 in Detroit.

He married Mary Beth Kerby on Aug. 18, 1984 in St. Clair Shores.

Daniel was a painter at Certified Collision. He also loved to ride motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Holliday of Jeddo; son and daughter-in-law, James and Shannon Pelcher of St. Clair; son, Corey Holliday and his fiance, Karie, of Port Huron; five grandchildren, Casey, Tyler, Balie, Nina and Josh; and his parents, Charles and Gloria Holliday of St. Clair Shores.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Pastor Donald Sperling will officiate.

Visiting hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Thelma Gruel

Thelma Young Gruel, 92, of Marysville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 in Evangelical Home.

She was born Sept. 6, 1910 in Fargo to the late Philip and Clara Gardner.

She married Fred A. Gruel on May 14, 1971 in Port Huron. He died Jan. 30, 1989.

Mrs. Gruel retired as a salesperson for Sears & Roebuck after 20 years of service. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, the Altar Guild, and past president of the Mary Martha Guild. She was a member of Mystic Chapter #58 O.E.S.

She is survived by two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Donna) Glombowski and Mr. and Mrs. James (Marian) Relken, all of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Diane) Goble and Mr. and Mrs. Greg (Christine) Brown; four grandsons, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Dolonda) Glombowski, Mr. and Mrs. David (Christine) Glombowski, Mr. and Mrs. Rich (Shannon) Relken and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck (Donna) Relken; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Melvin Gardner; and two sisters, Laura Cote and Irene Kanthak.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2003 in St. John's United Church of Christ, Port Huron. The Rev. William B. Terry will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron.

Pallbearers will be Daniel and David Glombowski, Chuck and Rich Relken, Greg Brown and Ronald Goble. An honorary pallbearer will be Jason Glombowski.
