Adam Harris

Adam F. Harris, age 89, of Port Huron Twp., died Friday, April 11, 2003 following a short illness.

He was born April 9, 1914 in Argyle and lived here since 1928.

He married Jennie M. Cullison on Jan. 17, 1940 in Napoleon, Ohio. She died March 18, 2000.

Adam raised horses all his life and was a member of the Thumb Pony Pullers Association.

He was the 1st commander of the St. Clair County Sheriff Posse and the last survivor of the Sunset Motorcycle Riders.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth A. "Butch" (Mary) Harris of Port Huron Twp.; his granddaughter and her fiance', Jennie Ann Harris and Jason Gurnsey of Port Huron Twp.; his grandaughter, Samantha Smith of Yale; his great-granddaughter, Kimberly Spicer; his great-grandson, David Smith; his sisters, Irene Askar and Erma Pszolka, both of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. George F. Askar will officiate. Burial will be in Freeburg cemetery in Argyle.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Kathlyn Goudy

Kathlyn Margaret Goudy, age 87, of Port Huron, died Friday, April 4, 2003 in her home following a short illness.

She was born Sept. 7, 1915 in Detroit to the late Margaret Raymond and William Henry Rourk.

She married John F. Goudy on Oct. 27, 1948 in Bowling Green, Ohio. He died June 2, 1957.

Kathlyn retired from Port Huron Hospital where she received the honor of Employee of the Year in 1978.

She graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1934 from Marine City High School, and was a class of 1936 alumnus from Eastern Michigan University.

She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and excelled as a member of the debate team in high school and at EMU.

She is survived by her son and his family, John and Linda Goudy, and their sons, Steven and Bryan Goudy, of Port Huron; her daughter and her family, Paula and Bob Golino of Jupiter, Florida, and their sons, Michael St. John of Canada and Paul and Trish St. John of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, and their daughter, SkyAnne; and her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Earl Horn Jr. of Kalamazoo. Kathlyn is also survived by a sister, Ruby Brown of Dexter, MI.

Kathlyn will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, for her love of education, and for her love for friends and animals.

She spent most of her life in the Port Huron and Marine City areas, which she loved.

Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.

There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Marine City at the Woodlawn cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the St. Clair County Humane Society.

Jacquelyn Gilan

Jacquelyn Lee Gilan, 69 and a lifelong resident of Port Huron, entered into Eternal Life on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.

Jacquelyn was born on February 11, 1934 in Port Huron to William and Winifred Wendt. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1952 and attended Port Huron Jr. College where she took accounting classes. Jacquelyn married Daniel R. Gilan on September 15, 1956 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Marysville, MI.

At age 15 "Jackie" began her working career which spanned 51 years with a love for bookkeeping and accounting. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for MacTaggert Hoffman Office Supplies on Military Street before joining the investment department at North American Benefit Association, (now Known as Women's Life Insurance) on December 27, 1967. In March of 1970 she was moved to the payroll department, and in July of 1973 she was made supervisor of that department until her retirement in July of 2000.

Jackie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Her generous love and concern will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel; her sister, Maxine (Thomas) Bachman, Port Huron; two nieces, Gaye (Todd) Wolschlager and Lisa Bachman; and a nephew, David Bachman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bonnelle Wendt.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10th and Griswold Streets. Port Huron, MI. The Reverend Robert Mann will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Pallbearers will be Tom and David Bachman, Todd Wolschlager, David Minnock, Craig Herbert, and Marvin Shagena. Gary Shagena will be an honorary pallbearer.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Robert Fraser-Lee

Robert W. Fraser-Lee, 82, of Port Huron, died Friday, April 11, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born Sept. 4, 1920 in Thornton, Ontario to the late Alexander and Mellisanne Fraser-Lee.

He married Phyllis M. Diefenbaker on July 26, 1958 in Port Huron.

Mr. Fraser-Lee was employed by United Trucking Service, Inc. for 32 years serving first as manager of their Port Huron terminal until 1951 and later as corporate traffic manager. He left United Trucking at the end of 1977 and was employed by Earl C. Smith Motor Freight as Director of Trailer Interchange and retired from there in May of 1983.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served as a signalman, handling visual communications on merchant ships as part of the naval armed guard in the Atlantic, European and Mediterranean theaters of operation during WWII.

He was a member of First Congregational Church where he sang in the church choir for over 64 years; was a frequent bass soloist and served on numerous boards and committees. He also sang with the International Symphony Orchestra's Symphony Singers for eight years and with the Port Huron Schubert Male Chorus for 53 years, as a member and soloist. He was Past President of the International Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors and served on the Board and was a long time volunteer at the Port Huron Museum.

His other hobbies included sailing, canoeing, hiking, fishing, building and flying model airplanes and building and playing stringed instruments.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sister, Mona J. Callaway of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; sister-in-law, Hazel Fraser-Lee of Marysville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Keith and sister, Evangeline Hall.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church. The Rev. Ronald W. Smith and The Rev. Robert Starkey will officiate.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Port Huron Museum, First Congregational Church Garden Fund, the International Symphony Orchestra or the American Red Cross.

John Flinchbaugh

John K. Flinchbaugh Jr., age 56, died suddenly of natural causes, Tuesday, March 18, 2003 in his home in Bakersfield, California.

He was born Oct. 2, 1946 in Port Huron to John K. Flinchbaugh, and the late Phyllis Gillert Flinchbaugh.

He was a graduate of Port Huron High School, and earned an Associate Degree from SC4.

For the past 18 years, John made his home in Bakersfield, California, and currently was employed with the Seco West Coast Oil Company as an Electrical Technician.

John is survived by his father, John K. Flinchbaugh Sr., and his stepmother, Lea Flinchbaugh; a sister, Nancy Kay Randolph of Sanford, Florida; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was an intelligent and talented young man. He had a great interest in cars, both in working on them, and in drag racing. He had a patent pending with a co-worker for an invention to give better gas mileage to cars with less pollution.

Christmas was a favorite time of year for him. He also had a great compassion for animals, and had just adopted two stray kittens.

John will be greatly missed by his fellow workers and friends. They will remember him for his quick wit and his generous spirit.

Cremation has taken place, and interment has taken place in Lakeside cemetery.

A memorial service was held.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may memorialize him by making a donation to the charity of their choice.

Robert Barth

Robert H. Barth Sr., age 86, of Capac, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 in his home after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 11, 1916 in Detroit, the son of the late Henry and Helen Barth.

Bob married Beth McInally on May 1, 1946.

He was a self-employed truck driver. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Beth, of Capac; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharron Barth; daughter, Laurel Lee Phinney of Laingsburg; son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Tammy Barth of Lexington; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Phyllis Barth of Zephyrhills, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Winifred and John Roy of Imlay City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry; sister, Helen Teetzel; and his sons, Robert H. Barth Jr. and Michael R. Barth.

A private graveside service will be at a later date.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Capac Library or Zion United Methodist Church.

Rhea Amey

Rhea G. Amey, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2003.

She is survived by brother, Orel Dane of Jeddo and Erle Dane of Avon Park, FL; more than twenty nieces and nephews; and a plethora of great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Winslow "Red" Amey; brothers, Frank and Lawrence Dane; a sister, Laura Nagy; and her parents, Pearl (Krohn) and H. Erle Dane.

Known as Aunt Rhea to all the family and neighborhood children, she and Uncle Red always had time to give to youngsters. The laughter of children rang through their home, and memories of baking cookies, the cabin in Luzerne, sledding on the hill at Wadhams, and picking that special gift off the Christmas tree, are truly great treasures.

She was known to family and friends as a fantastic cook who took great pleasure in serving every guest a meal.

Aunt Rhea enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She not only made custom clothing, including a crochet wedding gown to sell, but also gave pieces of her handiwork as gifts.

An avid gardener, Aunt Rhea was admired for her ability to create beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived, from the newlywed farm in Jeddo, to the home she and Uncle Red built at Wadhams to Lexington and Port Sanilac.

With her insatiable appetite for knowledge, Aunt Rhea read anything that was available, and had the ability to discuss any subject.

Most importantly, Aunt Rhea greatly enjoyed people. Throughout her entire life, Aunt Rhea treasured the friendship of everyone she knew, including childhood days at Jeddo school, friendships of young married s, Faith Lutheran Church, working at Autolite, neighbors from every home, and those who cared for her during the pleasant time spent at Port Haven.

A special friendship formed with Addie and Charles Johnson, whose continued care enabled Aunt Rhea to remain independent.

Both Aunt Rhea and Uncle Red live on in the memories of the many children whose lives they lovingly touched.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. with The Rev. Timothy Eichberger, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will take place in Forester Twp. cemetery.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at 3 p.m.

Memorials made to Faith Lutheran Church are appreciated.
