Hafer, Frances G.
November 25, 1915 - November 15, 2001

Frances G. Hafer, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, November 15, 2001, at her home.

A Memorial Service for Frances will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian LaMew officiating. Cremation has taken place.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 20th, from 12 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Toys for Tots or the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Frances was born on November 25, 1915, in Rosebush, the daughter of Albert J. and Esther (Hart) Prout. Frances married Earl Hafer on October 25, 1932, in Indiana. She was retired from Ferro Manufacturing where she had worked as a press operator. Frances enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.

Frances is survived by her daughter-in-law Donna M. Hafer; her 5 grandchildren, Cheryl Kampf (Mark) of Rosebush, Pam Zeien (John) of Mt. Pleasant, Julie Friend of Morrisville, NC, Rob Hafer (Brenda) of Richmond, Kentucky, and Bill Hafer (Rita Barnes) of Lexington, Kentucky; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Earl on December 21, 1999; her son Bob Hafer, her daughter Donna Jean Hafer; her parents; and her brother Homer Prout.

Moody, Max Wayne
July 28, 1927 - November 14, 2001

Max Wayne Moody, 74, of Blanchard, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2001.

Funeral services for Max will be held on Sunday, November 18th, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Paulette Cheyne of the Winn United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine River cemetery, Rolland Township.

Visitation will begin at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 16th, from 6-9 p.m. and continue on Saturday, November 17th, from 2-9 p.m. with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Max may consider a charity of donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Max was born on July 28, 1927, in Isabella County, the son of William and Daucy (Drake) Moody. He married Donna Cottrell on July 20, 1974, at the Blanchard Pine River Methodist Church. Max was employed for 43 years as a truck driver for the Isabella County Road Commission, retiring in 1989. Max was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Max is survived by his wife, Donna of Blanchard; his daughters, Kim (Randy) Hansen of Vestaburg, Sandra (Charles) Washburn, Sr. of Bannister, his son Eugene Comstock of Blanchard; his grandchildren, Brian and Greg Hansen and Charles Washburn, Jr.; his brother Graden (Betty) Moody of Blanchard; his sister Gloria (Ronald) VanderVlucht of St. Louis ; and his sister-in-law Pat Uebele of Blanchard.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, his brother Hobart Moody, and his daughter Vicki Comstock.

Hrdlovich, Joseph T.
April 28, 1921 - November 8, 2001

Joseph T. Hrdlovich, 80, of Rosebush, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 8th, 2001.

A Funeral Mass for Joseph will be held on Monday, November 12th, at 11 a.m., at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Jeffrey Donner and Sister Mary Ellen McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in St. Henry’s cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 11th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Joseph may consider the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Joseph was born on April 28, 1921, in Rosebush, MI, the son of Ambrose and Mary (Scala) Hrdlovich. Joseph served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was awarded 2 bronze stars. He married Joan Funnell on June 3, 1949, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rosebush. For twenty-seven years he worked as a mechanic for Dan McDonald Ford in Clare, retiring in 1971. He then worked for Welded Construction, Tope Oil and Summit Petroleum, retiring in 1998. Joseph was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church and the Rosebush American Legion.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Tom (Denise) Hrdlovich of Rosebush, Richard Hrdlovich of St. Petersburg, Florida, Pamela (Robert) Evans of Mt. Pleasant and Sheri (Thomas) Nartker of Shepherd; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Mary Sanderson of Midland.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Ambrose and Mary Hrdlovich.

Peltier, Rita C.
November 7, 1925 - November 8, 2001

Rita C. Peltier, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2001, at the Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant.

A Funeral Mass for Rita will be held on Tuesday, November 13th, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. Craig Albrecht officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 11th, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, November 12th, from 3-5 and 6:30-9 p.m. There will be a prayer service Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Rita may consider Hospice of Central Michigan or Heart for Health Outreach Ministry of Sacred Heart Church. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Rita was born on November 7, 1925, in Beal City, the daughter of William and Helena (Bierschbach) Bleise. Rita was a graduate of Beal City High School. She married Donald F. Peltier on July 4, 1944, in Beal City. Rita had worked as a file clerk for Central Michigan University Health Services for 15 years. Prior to that she had worked for Broomfield Memorial Hospital and Ferro Manufacturing. Rita was very active and enjoyed camping, gardening, playing cards, dancing, going to the casinos, crocheting, and baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her husband Donald; her children, Mary (Bill) Paisley of Mt. Pleasant, Beverly (Joe) Murray of East Lansing, Donna (Terry) Judd of Laingsburg, and Denise (Ron) Pohl of Beal City; her grandchildren Kelly (Ken) Witgen, Jamie (Rob) Rowley, Jana (Jeff) Grover, Gretchen Woodcock, Michael Judd, Jim, Judd, Stephanie Pohl and Ryan Pohl; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Bill (Marianne) Bleise of MN and Joe (Carol) Bleise of Beal City, 2 brothers-in-law, Harold (Mary) Cassidy of Clare and Mike (Frances) South of Texas; 2 sisters, Virginia Bush of Illinois and Marilyn (Jack) Theisen of Beal City; 1 sister-in-law Alberta Bleise of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Rosemary Cassidy and Agnes South, and 1 brother Robert Bleise.

Glover, Dorothy Marie
May 20, 1919 - November 8, 2001

Our loving mother, grandmother and dear friend, Dorothy Marie Glover, 82, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, November 8th, 2001, at her home.

A Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be held on Monday, November 12th, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, with Fr. Craig Albrecht officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 11th, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy may consider Hospice of Central Michigan or Sacred Heart Church. Dorothy was born on May 20, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Louis and Ruth (Ritzenthaller) Wessell. Dorothy married John R. Glover May 1940 in Detroit. She worked as a homemaker and took care of their three children. Dorothy was a member of the Moose Lodge of Mt. Pleasant. Her kindness and love of life will remain in our hearts and forever inspire us.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, John and Susan Glover of Stanwood, Ruth Ann Glover of Grand Ledge and Janet and Jim Fitzpatrick of Rosebush. She is also survived by three grandchildren; John Scott and Evelyn Glover of Woodland Hills, CA, Casey Fitzpatrick and Meagan Fitzpatrick of Rosebush and one great-grandchild, Nicholas Glover of Woodland Hills, CA.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John, in July 1977 and her brother, Elmer Wessell.

Garver, Marge
August 28, 1923 - November 7, 2001

Marge Garver of Falmouth died Wednesday, November 7, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant. She was 78.

She was born in Gladwin on August 28, 1923, to Daniel and Malwine (Malvina) Steinkraus. Mrs. Garver married Clifford D. Garver on December 28, 1940. The couple lived in Gladwin area for many years before moving to Falmouth.

She loved the Lord, her family and friends, and had many interests. She attended Prosper Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the Ladies Bible Study.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Brenda Atkins of Lake City; son Clifford R. Garver of Mt. Pleasant; and granddaugther, Jennifer (Neil) Helsel of Lake City; sisters, Lillian Kranich of McBain, and Violet Seebold of Elko, Nevada; brother, William (Faith) Steinkraus of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Marian Steinkraus of Douglasville, Georgia, Letha Knowlton of Gladwin, and Carol Barna of Padagoria, Florida; brothers-in-law, Fred (Gloria) Garver of Flint, Ronald (Gail) Garver of Gladwin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters and brothers, Esther Wagner, Edna Gertz, Marie Steinkraus, Sarah Steinkraus, Walter Steinkraus, and Samuel Steinkraus.

Mrs. Garver chose to have her body be donated for medical research to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Prosper Christian Reformed Church in Falmouth, with Pastor Robert Drenton officiating.

Memorial tributes may be made to Central Michigan Hospice or the Prosper Christian Reformed Church or a memorial or your choice.

Moravy, Gerald "Jerry" Jay
August 15, 1937 - November 7, 2001

Gerald “Jerry” Jay Moravy, 64, of Weidman passed away on Wednesday, November 7th, 2001, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Saturday, November 10th, at 1 p.m., at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Barry Flanders of the Young Church officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 9th, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Jerry may consider the American Diabetes Association or the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Jerry was born August 15, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, MI, the son of Herbert and Ida (Ankron) Moravy. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. Jerry was the owner and president of Moravy Trucking, Inc. from 1967-1994. Prior to that he had worked in the oil and gas industry. Jerry was a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association, the Fifty Club, Ducks Unlimited and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and collecting Jim Beam decanters.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Seth) Moravy-Penchansky of Ann Arbor, three sons; Steven Moravy, Michael Moravy and Jeremy Moravy all of Mt. Pleasant and his step-son Phillip Ballew Sr. of Petosky, grandchildren; Cassidy and Sacha Moravy-Penchansky, three nieces and four nephews. He is also survived by his brother, L. Joseph (Elisabeth) Moravy of Arlington Heights, IL and his sister, Mary Ellen Crain of Mt. Pleasant.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Lee Moravy and one daughter, Kimberly Moravy.

Downes, June Marie
January 21, 1907 - March 30, 2002

June Marie Downes, age 95, of Lake, died on Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider the Community Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

June was born January 21, 1907, in Maidstone, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Charles and Aurelie (Dame) Bellaire. June was active with the Weidman Senior Center in Weidman.

June is survived by her children, Marie T. Bruce of Lake, Don V. Menard (Mary) of Pontiac, and a daughter-in-law Ruby Menard of Lake, Michigan;
4 grandchildren, Jackie Marie Menard of Pontiac, Victoria Hughes of Peru, and Sheri Cushman of Lake, and John B. Menard of Louisanna; 8 great grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by both parents, husband Stanley E. Downes on Oct. 12, 1984, her ex-husband John Menard in 1987, her 2 sons, Leo Menard in 1997, Gerard Menard in 1997, and grandson, Don Bruce in 1984.

Leadford, Thomas Clayton
December 18, 1955 - March 23, 2002

Thomas Clayton Leadford, 46, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Thomas will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Vredeveld officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery.

Visitation will be at Clark Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 27, from 12 noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mental Health. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Thomas was born on December 18, 1955, in Chesaning, the son of Thomas and Jane Ann (Crowfoot) Leadford. Thomas is survived by his family and friends at Cen Care #1.

Strohmier, Barbara Jean
March 3, 1946 - March 19, 2002

Barbara Jean Strohmier, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on March 19, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.

A Funeral Mass for Barbara will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winn with Fr. Rob Howe and Deacon John Wilberding co-officiating. Interment will follow in St. Leo’s cemetery in Winn.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 21, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, March 22, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winn on Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a wake service and rosary at the funeral chapel Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Leo’s Catholic Church or the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Barbara was born on March 3, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Olds) Dora. She was a graduate of Shepherd High School. Barbara was a homemaker and had previously worked for Quality Farm & Fleet, Golden Maid, Strohmier Pools, and the Smart Copy Company. She married Donald E. Strohmier on April 1, 1991, in Jefferson County, Colorado. Barbara enjoyed reading Danielle Steele romance novels and researching family genealogy. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband Donald E. Strohmier of Mt. Pleasant; her children Kandy Wheeler (Don) of Mt. Pleasant, Cindy Mogg (Scott) of Mt. Pleasant, Terrie “Robin” Bellingar and Tim Latzko of Alma, Judith Raby (Jeramie) of Riverdale, and stepdaughter Heidi Butterfield of Orlando, FL; 9 grandchildren Amanda, Cassandra, Brady, Nathan, Terry II, Jacob, Robert, Trevor, Jesse and 2 step-grandchildren Rachel and David; 3 great-grandchildren, Zoyei, Chelsea, and Zackery; her sisters and brothers Mary Callihan (Floyd) of Brighton, Ceceila Sheahan of Flint, Bernice Gruss (Richard) of Beal City, Geneive Leiter of Remus, Joseph Dora of Lyons, Leo Dora (Barbara) of Ionia, John Dora of Mt. Pleasant, Tony Dora (Keitha) of Rosebush, Linda Schafer (Ron) of Lake, Kenneth Dora (Doris) of Weidman, Jane Cunningham (John) of New Hampshire, Judy Dora and Tom Maeder of Weidman; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Fred & Hazel Dora, brother Stanley Dora, brothers-in-laws Leon Thompson, Edward Sheahan, and Mitchell Leiter, and 4 nephews.

Sturm, Wolfgang Herbert
March 1, 1923 - March 18, 2002

Wolfgang Herbert Sturm, loving husband of 53 years, father and grandfather, born March 1, 1923, passed away at his home in Blanchard, Michigan, on March 18, 2002.

Wolfgang started his life in a small town in East Germany where he grew up learning the trade of a Certified Pastry Chef. At the age of just 17, he was drafted into the German navy where he served aboard the Destroyer Turpitz as an officer in the Signal Corps. Upon the sinking of the Turpitz, he was captured and spent the next 3 years of his life in a French Prisoner of War Camp. Wolfgang then went back to East Germany for his family where he worked in the Uranium Mines for 3 years before making his escape to West Germany with his wife Kaethe and children. He worked in West Germany for 9 years in an Aluminum Factory in Singen before moving to the United States with his wife and family. Once in the United States, Wolfgang and Kaethe started Little Joe's Pastry Shop in Harper Woods, near Detroit, and lived there saving everything they could to buy property "Up North" here in Blanchard. Wolfgang sold everything and moved to what he called Paradise and lived there many happy years until his recent passing.

Wolfgang is survived by his Wife Kaethe, Daughters Kaethe, Karin and Heidi, and sons Jochim, Uwe and Frantz. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Amber, Andrea, Barry, Elisha, Frantz, Jessica, Matt, Michael, Rachael, Richard and Shannon; 3 great grandchildren Bryan, Joshua and Kristina; his loving daughters-in-law Inge and Leisa and two loving sons-in-law Jeff and Mike.

Rest in Peace, Dad, we shall cherish the time we had with you forever and you will always be in our hearts.
