William Evers

William (Bill) Robert Evers, age 71 of Sarnia died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the L.H.G. Mitton St. Site in Sarnia.

Bill was a retired Instrument Mechanic at Polysar with 37 years of service and worked at Shopper's Drug Mart for 12 years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Sarnia, Hope Lutheran Church, Goodells, MI, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 62, was the Past Master of the Victoria Lodge #56, the Wawanosh Chapter #15, St. Simon of Cyrene #37, Riblah Council #6, York Rite College #35, Royal and Select Masters of Ontario, Sarnia Lodge of Perfection, London Sovereign Chapter Rose Croix, Moore Sovereign Consistory, Sarnia Scottish Rite Club, Mocha Temple, Lambton Shrine Club, Blue Water Shrine Club, Victory Chapter #50 O.E.S., Dual Member Sarnia Chapter #6 O.E.S.

He was the beloved husband of Jane (Ross) Evers; loved father of Rob Evers of Windsor, Lisa Evers of Sarnia and step-children, Paula, Richard, David and Jeffery all of the U.S.A. and daughter-in-law, Colleen Sim; loving grandfather of Lynden Blake Evers; dear brother of Tillie Brent, Jack Evers and his wife, Pauline and Dorothy and her husband Jack Gallaway; several nieces and nephews; and Lisa and Rob's mother Marilyn.

He was preceded in death by Tom Evers, Ada Haggart and Herb Evers.

Friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, Ontario- 519-542-5541 on Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Masonic service will be held on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star Service.

A private family service will be held at Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Paul's United Church, Sarnia.

Sympathy through donations to the Shriner's Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Zelma Dingman

Zelma M. Dingman, age 78, of Smiths Creek, died Friday, July 4, 2003 in her residence after a long illness.

She was born April 28, 1925 in Almont, the daughter of the late Hugh and Ora Glover.

Zelma married Glen Dingman. He passed away in 1978.

She was a former employee of Conrad's Poultry Farm. She enjoyed Bingo and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Clawson and Vickki Glover of Smiths Creek and Kirk and Marylou Glover of Goodells; four grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Jim Dowling of Imlay City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorial tributes may be made to the wishes of the family.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Port Huron.

V. Eileen Devereaux

V. Eileen Devereaux, 73, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 following a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 15, 1929 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

She married James Richard "Dick" Devereaux. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1999.

Eileen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church; the League of Catholic Women; and the Women of the M.O.O.S.E She enjoyed traveling and was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she had numerous friends in the Blue Water area.

She is survived by her daughters, Christene A. (Daniel) Laffly of Manchester, England and Denyse D. (Patrick) Breault of Cockeysville, MD; her son, Marc R. (Tracy) Devereaux of Oxford; her daughter, Sara-Jane (Joseph) Loeffler of White Lake; her grandchildren, Stephane, Eric and Johanna Laffly, Matthew, Caroline and Emily Breault, Erin Devereaux, Sean, Ian and Joseph Loeffler; and several cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association or St. Jude Childrens Hospital.

Violet Cleaver

Violet Mae Cleaver, 70, of Port Huron, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 in her home.

She was born April 30, 1933 in Port Hope to the late Henry and Tressa Detgen.

Mrs. Cleaver attended TOPS, enjoyed crocheting, loved to bake and was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by three sons, Charles H. Cleaver of Three Rivers, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Yvonne) Cleaver of Fort Gratiot and Michael P. Cleaver of Florida; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jon (Sue) Kamendat of Avoca; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Patrick, Alice Hall and Carol Kestner; four brothers, Sylvester Detgen, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Nancy) Detgen, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Audrey) Detgen and Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Janet) Detgen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou and Marion Detgen; and two brothers, Henry and Larry Detgen.

Private family services have been held.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Clara Cleaver

Mrs. Clara Marguerite "Peggy" Cleaver, 91, of Marysville, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 in Marwood Manor.

She was born December 3, 1911 in Caro to the late Walter C. and Maude Way.

She married James Kenneth Cleaver in February of 1929 in Port Huron. He died in 1968.

Mrs. Cleaver retired from Chrysler Corporation. She was a member of the NABA Ladies Auxiliary and was an avid bowler.

She is survived by three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Rosemary) Cleaver of St. Clair, Mr. and Mrs. Al (Ann) Cleaver of North Street and Jim Cleaver of Everett, Washington; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William (Barbara) McFadden of Wales Twp; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Irene) Way of California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite Louise Bennett; two brothers, Howard and Albert; and three sisters, Carol, Aleatha and Alice.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cleaver will lie in state at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Rene Desmarais will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron.

Clara Bayes

Clara M. Bayes, 77, of Port Huron, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Evangelical Home following a long illness.

She was born May 8, 1926 in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident.

She married Stanley M. Bayes on Jan. 12, 1952 in Port Huron.

Clara was a 1944 graduate of St. Stephen High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a life member of the League of Catholic Women. Her main interests were her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley M. Bayes of Port Huron; her son, Terrance (Cynthia) Bayes of Fort Gratiot; her daughter, Barbara (Michael) White of Marine City; her sons, John (Kerry) Bayes of Humble, TX, James (Kim) Bayes of San Rafael, CA, and William (Leann) Bayes of Port Huron; her daughter, Lisa (Edward) Warren of Smiths Creek; her grandchildren, Justin, Jarrit and Josh White, Kali and Kelsey Bayes, Molly, Emily and Jackalynn Bayes, Spencer Bayes, Jacob and Jena Bayes, Carson and Benjamin Warren; and her brothers, John Burk of Southfield and James Burk of Romeo.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.

Arrangements are by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Thomas Allen

Thomas J. Allen, age 76, of Smiths Creek, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2003 in his home after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 10, 1926 in Port Huron, the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth Allen.

Thomas served in the United States Army in Germany. He retired from Sports Rack. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Allen of Marysville and Marie Anderson of Sparlingville; his niece, Patricia Farquhar of Kimball; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Tommie Baker of Marysville and Ted Nowicki of Smiths Creek.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orville, Frank and Cecil Allen; two sisters, Madeline Hand and Louise Schultz; and a good friend, Gail Lester.

Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Port Huron.

Raymond Bartley

Mr. Raymond Earl Bartley, 72, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in Mercy Hospital.

He was born February 20, 1931 in Port Huron to the late Ollie D. and Marion B. Bartley.

He married Phyllis M. Schott on June 17, 1973 in Marysville.

Mr. Bartley was retired from the Detroit Edison. He was a member of Port Huron Assembly of God Church. He loved sports and coaching. He was a U.S. Marine during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his children, Scott (Nancy) Bartley, Joseph (Susie) Bartley, Mark (Rhonda) Bartley, Thomas Bartley, Lillian (Larry) Pung, Susan (Michael) Blackmer, Glenda (Willie) Brown, Frank (Denise) Schott, Michael (Cindy) Schott, Richard (Elisa) Schott, Patrick (Bryanna) Schott and Christopher (Barb) Schott; 31 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bartley; a grandson, Matthew Blackmer; and a brother, Edward.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Reverend Jack R. Williams of Port Huron Assembly of God Church will officiate.

Burial will take place in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Military honors will be conducted under the Auspices of St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Pallbearers will be Michael Blackmer, Steven Blackmer, Kevin Schott, Travis Schott, Eric Bartley and E.J. Bartley. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Brown, Phillip Brown and Dale Bartley.

Loretta Sowinski

Loretta N. Sowinski, age 75, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, May 30, 2003.

She was born February 17, 1928 in Chicago and has lived in Fort Gratiot for the past 18 years.

She was married to Stephen Sowinski for 35 years, he died March 29, 2003.

Loretta was a hostess at the Bridge Restaurant for 15 years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Glazer; and granddaughters, Stacy and Elise Glazar, all of Port Huron.

Cremation has taken place.

No services are schedules. Arrangements were handled by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
