Herman Klammer

Herman Delford "Bud" Klammer, 77, of Port Huron, died Friday, May 9, 2003 in Mercy Hospital.

He was born Nov. 14, 1925 in Port Huron to the late Herman and Amelia Klammer.

He married Barbara Ann Child on June 30, 1951 in Port Huron.

Mr. Klammer was employed with Leath Furniture for 34 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He enjoyed NASCAR Racing, antique cars, and watching the lake freighters.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara; a daughter, Kathryn E. Klammer of Port Huron; a son, Major and Mrs. John E. (Rachel) Klammer; grandchildren, William K. and Jeniece M. Klammer, all of Ypsilanti; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Doris E.) Colden of Port Huron; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special nephew, David Child.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Mr. Klammer's son, Major John E. Klammer of Ypsilanti Salvation Army will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be William Klammer, Douglas Norton, David Child, Patrick Child, Terry Welch and Michael Potter.

Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Ypsilanti Salvation Army.

Charles Kenner

Charles N. "Bud" Kenner, 49, of Kimball, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital, unexpectedly.

He was born May 11, 1953 in Port Huron to the late George F. and Margaret Kenner.

Mr. Kenner is survived by three brothers, Rodger Kenner, Patrick L.D. (Susan) Kenner and William Kenner; six sisters, Katherine (Larry) Eagle, Patricia (Darryl) Smith, Gayle Kenner, Linda (James) Greuber, Debra Ann Kenner (Dan Lambert) and Dorothy Kenner; his best friend, Jim Mitchell; and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George; and two sisters, Christine Kenner and Dawn Lambert.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Babin of Sparlingville Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell cemetery, Kimball Twp. Pallbearers will be John Eagle, Matt Greuber, Allen Kenner, Daniel J. Lambert, William G. Lambert, Robert G. Kenner, Nathan Kenner, John Mullally and Ray Smith. His brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Robert Jones

Robert Earl Jones, age 60, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital following a one year illness.

He was born Nov. 14, 1942 in Detroit.

Mr. Jones was a Gannett employee retiring from the Detroit News/Free Press as a plate maker. He was a member of Newspaper Workers Local #13N and the Graphic Communications International Union.

He is survived by his son, Robert L. Jones of Port Huron; his daughters, Joanne E. Jones and Heather R. Jones, both of Port Huron; his sister, Rita E. (Kenneth) Marks Jr. of Smiths Creek; his brother, Darryl A. Jones of Port Huron; his sister, Teresa M. (Gary) Chartrand of Sturgis; his dear friends, John (Wanda) Bambusch of Marysville and Wayne Diehl of Lexington; several nieces and nephews; and the family cat, Purry.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, Pastor, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to either St. Mary Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Loretta Kirtley

Loretta Kirtley, 85, of Fort Gratiot, formerly of Sterling Heights, went to join her beloved Charles on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 in Brown's Adult Foster Care Home.

She was born April 4, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY and lived here the past 2 years.

She married Charles R. Kirtley on Oct. 19, 1946 in Detroit. He died April 22, 1986.

She enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing.

She is survived by her nephew, Ed (Val) Skotcher of Fort Gratiot; her great-niece, Valerie Skotcher of Fort Gratiot; her great-nephews, Edward and Gerald Skotcher; her great-great-nieces and nephews, Joseph, Jason, Lisa, Toni and Kelly Skotcher; her great-great-great-nephew, Bo Devroy; her friends at Brown's AFC Home and Millicent Beckford; and her special friend, Grace Grzybowski of Fort Gratiot.

She was preceded in death by her dogs, Laddie, Kiltie, Kiltie II and Susie.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. David J. Lesniak, Pastor of St. Stephen Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial East cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Adell Kells

Adell Kells, age 94, of Marysville, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 22, 2003.

She was born to Thomas and Alice Knox on May 15, 1908 in Memphis, MI and married William Kells on June 29, 1934 in Marysville.

A life long resident of Marysville, Adell is survived by her daughter, Patricia Henry and the true joys in her life, her grandchildren, William (Ann) Henry, Renee (Brian) Thick, Michael (Colleen Wehner) Henry, Stephen (Kim) Henry; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Genevieve Johnson and Elsie Moak.

Funeral services for Adell will be at 12 noon Friday, April 25, 2003 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 7th St. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Her ashes will be interred at Marysville Riverlawn cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marwood Manor or Woodland Developmental Center.

Clifford Johnson

Mr. Clifford E. Johnson, 88, of Marysville, died Friday, April 18, 2003 in Marwood Manor.

He was born Jan. 7, 1915 in Jamestown, New York to Alfred and Emma Johnson.

He married Dorothy A. Norris on Oct. 14, 1939 in Port Huron. She died July 11, 1999.

Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy. He was a foreman at Detroit Edison, retiring in 1974 after 30 years of service. He served on the Marysville City Council for 25 years. He was a member of the Marysville American Legion, the Marysville Lodge #498 F.&A.M., the Marysville Housing Commission and the Marysville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Morrison of Port Huron; a grandson, Edward Morrison; a sister, Eunice Benson of Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania; a special niece, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Janice) Moore of Frewsburg, New York; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Keith in 1968.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Masonic Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 in Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Barteld will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery, Marysville.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Visiting Nurses Association or Marysville United Methodist Church.

Edith Horbes

Mrs. Edith Horbes, 85, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord and loved ones who journeyed before her, on Thursday, May 1, 2003.

She was born June 9, 1917 in Port Huron to the late John and Marie Katherine Schumann.

She married John "Top" Horbes on Nov. 30, 1940. He died on July 16, 1973.

Mrs. Horbes retired from Armbrusters, formerly The Club Bar, after 25 years of service. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a son, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Joan) Horbes of Marysville; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Gibson of North Street and Janice Horbes of Marysville; three grandchildren, Christine (Jon) Peters, Stephen (Theresa) Horbes and Shannon Gibson; four great-grandchildren, Justin Horbes, Jonathan and Ryan Peters and Adelle Gibson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Frederick Horbes in 1943 and her grandson, Michael John Gibson in November 2002.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gordon Peterson will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Rich Harwood, Joel Pepper, Bob Baker, Jon Peters, Fritz Schneider and S. LeRoy Schumann.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Adelle Gibson Education Fund.

The children of Mrs. Horbes would like to acknowledge the administration and staff of Oasis Senior Care for the loving care they gave their mother during her last years. A special thank you to Suzy. You are an angel. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Paul Hastings

Mr. Paul Douglas Hastings, 45, of Clay Twp, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born December 14, 1957 in Port Huron to the late Robert Hastings, Sr. and Patsey Hastings. He married Genevieve Powers on March 25, 1981 in Port Huron.

Mr. Hastings was a mechanic with the East China School District and formerly worked at Mack Truck and Michigan Truck and Trailer. He served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the V.F.W. Fred Quandt Post #3901, Algonac and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2784, Fair Haven.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Hastings; a son, Glen Hastings; two daughters, Stacy and Susan Hastings, all of Burtchville Township; his mother, Patsey Hastings of Algonac; four brothers, Victor Hastings of Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Kathleen) Hastings of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Marian) Hastings, Jr. of St. Clair and Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Karrie) Hastings of Marine City; a sister, Linda DeFrain of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Daniel S. Bakay of First Baptist Church will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron.

George Hastings

George E. Hastings, age 72, of Clyde Twp., entered into Eternal Life on Saturday, July 26, 2003 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1930 to the late Wesley and Viola Hastings.

He married Noreen Jo Ann Rebeske on March 13, 1951.

Dad was preceded into eternal life by our dear mother, Noreen JoAnn Hastings who passed away in September of 1993.

Dad enlisted in the United States Navy at the tender age of 17. He had to have parental consent due to his age. He served his country for 4 years as a flight director on the aircraft carriers USS Kearsarge VC53 and the USS Coral Sea CVB 43. He served in the Korean War.

Dad was a member of VFW Post #796. He was employed with Ford Motor Company for 30 years until retirement. He belonged to the U.A.W. Retired Workers Local 2280.

He is survived by his children, George W. (Celia) Hastings, Randy Hastings, Raye-Ann Hastings, and step-daughter, Diane (Dave) Bushaw, all of Port Huron. He is also survived by grandchildren, Richard Smith, George E. Hastings II, Wesley, Tammi, Timothy, Jenny, Randi, Tim, Renee, and step-grandson, David Ecker; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Linda (Norman) DeFrain, Nevada. He is also survived by his "favorite" sister, Geraldine (Ray) LaParl of Algonac; brother, Charles Hastings of Port Huron; and "favorite" sister, Eleanor Knight of Harrison Twp.

Dad was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Dow Hastings; and nephews, Paul Hastings and Gary Brown.

Visitation will be at Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 7th ST. from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The Rev. Dan Bakay will officiate.

Pursuant to Dad's wishes, cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date with full military honors.

Dad's greatest passions were his Siberian Huskies, his cats, wild birds and his yard work.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blue Water Hospice.

"We lost a great father, but God's gaining a great man."
