Mildred Gostinger

Mildred R. Gostinger, age 63, of Kimball, died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in her home after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 25, 1940 in McGregor, MI and lived here most of her life.

She married Martin R. Gostinger in 1972 in Port Huron.

She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved to travel.

She is survived by her husband, Martin R. Gostinger of Kimball; her daughter, Lisa L. (Jean-Yves) Chretien of Macomb Twp.; her grandchildren, Nicolas and Morgane Chretien; her brothers, Ken (Donna) Brackenbury of Arizona and Terry (Alice) Brackenbury of Port Huron; her sister, Sally (Dave) Langolf of Port Huron; her brothers, Jerry (Donna) Brackenbury of Mt. Clemens and Jack (Judi) Brackenbury of Arizona; her sister, Sue (Charlie) Murray of Port Huron; and her brother, Milton (Amelia) Brackenbury of New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Hammett.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. David J. Lesniak, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Friedland

Margaret A. "Peggy" Friedland, age 76, of Port Huron, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 in Mercy Hospital.

She was born Aug. 20, 1927 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

She married George C. "Bud" Friedland. He preceded her in death June 24, 1992.

Peggy was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was loved by everyone who met her. She was also an avid hockey fan.

She is survived by her son, Randy (Diana) Friedland of Louisville, KY; her daughter, Sally (Robert) Lapish Jr. of Marysville; her sons, David (Susan) Friedland of Jackson, Brian Friedland of Port Huron, Kevin (Sally) Friedland of Pleasant Lake and Paul (Caren) Friedland of Pleasant Lake; her grandchildren, Jill, Jason and Jolene Friedland, Nicole (Alyne) Rankin, Erika Lapish and Stacy (Jim) Clow, Shannon (Jason) Latham, Hope (Matt) Cooley, Danielle, Mark and Ryan Friedland, Lisa, Kelly and Adam Friedland, Ashley, Melissa, Gregory and Steven Friedland; her great-grandchildren, Kyle and Evan Latham; her sisters, Betty Meyer, Sally (Robert) Stevens, Shirley (Duane) Fowler, all of Fort Gratiot; her sister-in-law, Edna McFarlane of Fort Gratiot; her brother-in-law, Cliff (Bev) Friedland of Port Huron; her sister-in-law, Eileen (Robert) Weber of Port Huron; her brother-in-law, Joseph Wolfe of Port Huron; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Mary McFarlane; her brothers, Ken, Gene and Bernard McFarlane; and her sister, Marge Sheffer.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Monday.

Peggy's grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are appreciated.

Richard Eveningred

Mr. Richard C. Eveningred, 59, of Marysville, died Monday, May 26, 2003 after a long illness.

He was born June 9, 1943 in Port Huron to Lloyd and the late Clara Eveningred.

He married Carol J. Shank on April 17, 1970 in Port Huron.

Mr. Eveningred was a crew dispatcher for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad prior to his retirement. For many years, he helped plan the annual Grand Trunk Christmas party and was a volunteer for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Credit Union. He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Bruk (Penny) Weymouth; a son, Nichol Eveningred; his father, Lloyd Eveningred; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Randy (Karen) Putze; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. James (Diane) Eveningred and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Mr. Eveningred will lie in state at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, May 30, 2003 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Reverend Gerald Britz will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery, Marysville.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Volusia County Hospice, Daytona Beach, Florida.

Myra Feirn

Myra J. Feirn, 87, of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital.

She was born to Allen and Ada Rowley on Nov. 13, 1916 in Toledo, Ohio, graduated from Lapeer High School, and worked for the Detroit Edison Co. in Lapeer and later in Port Huron.

On Aug. 7, 1948 she married Allen L. Feirn in Port Huron. He passed away July 6, 1975.

Myra enjoyed playing the organ at the Fogcutter Restaurant in Port Huron at the request of her good friend, organist Bill Hampton. She also enjoyed watching golf on TV.

She is survived by a nephew, Al (Marcia) White of Marshall, MI; a niece, Mary White of Saginaw, MI; her sister-in-law, Ann Endean of Marysville; and her good friends, Jim and Meg Stanley.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cleo White.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Tom Seppo will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Contributions may be made in Myra's memory to the St. Clair County Humane Society.

Frank Farro

Frank A. Farro, age 81, of Port Huron, died Friday, April 23, 2004 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 7, 1922 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

He married Mary A. Bennett on Nov. 6, 1954 in St. Stephen Church.

Frank was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in Germany, Belgium and the Philippines.

He retired from James River Paper Co. in 1988. He loved baseball, hunting and fishing and he enjoyed carpentry work.

He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Farro of Port Huron; his daughter, Carol Y. (John) O'Sullivan of Newport, MI; sons, Frank A. Farro Jr. and Gary A. Farro, both of Port Huron; daughter, Jean Simonds of Port Huron; grandchildren, John P., Ryan, Sean and Jillene O'Sullivan, James Stoutmeyer and Mary Margaret Simonds; great-grandchildren, Dillon Stoutmeyer, Chasity and Kassidy Simonds; sisters-in-law, Anna Farro of Almont and Gertrude Forro of Port Huron; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Barbara Forro; and his brothers, Ernest Farro, Stephen Forro and Julius Forro.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Fr. C. Paul Higdon will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

St. Clair County Allied Veterans will serve as Frank's pallbearers as well as conducting military graveside services.

Mass offerings are requested to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Burton Ely

Burton J. "Burt" Ely, 88, of Kimball Twp., passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in Mercy Hospital.

He was born to Burton and Lily Ely on Dec. 3, 1915 in Detroit and lived most of his life in Detroit and Harper Woods, until moving to Kimball Twp. five years ago.

Until his retirement Burt worked for Chrysler Corp. for 40 years and belonged to Local 212 UAW. His hobby was exercising race horses. He was a sharpshooter and competed as a member of the Chrysler Corp. Pistol Team. He also enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Betty F. Ely; his daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" (Syd) Turner of Kimball Twp.; his nephew, Allen "Skip" (Connie) Haigh of Horton, MI; five grandchildren, Cindy (Neal) McLean, Melissa (Tom) Armbruster, Kathy Zalenko, David (Lauri) Turner and Stephen Turner; 13 great-grandchildren; three cousins, Norman (Norma) Merrill, Alfred (Shirley) Merrill and Robert (Pat) Drews; and a dear friend, Mary Drews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris; and several brothers including his brother, Don.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004 in Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. Robert Trask, Pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. Inurnment will be in the Grace Church Columbarium at a later time.

Contributions may be made in Burt's memory to Bridge Builders Counseling or the St. Clair County Humane Society.

Dorothy Easter

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"...Matthew 11:28. Dorothy went to her eternal rest on Sunday, March 28, 2004.

Born to Clinton Jackman and Hattie Hayden-Jackman on Feb. 19, 1922.

Dorothy spent much of her life doing for others. One of her oft-repeated axioms was "Find a need and fill it." She went out of her way to make you feel special.

She married Ernest Lottner on May 23, 1941. After 31 years of marriage, Ernie passed on Sept. 9, 1972. On Dec. 10, 1977, she married A. Lyons (Al) Easter. He passed June 29, 1980.

Dorothy took great pride in her home and was a superb homemaker. She worked at the Goodells Medical Center, then Mercy Hospital from which she retired in March 1988.

She loved to quilt, crochet and sew; most of her projects were gifts to her beloved family. She also liked to get together with her friends and play bingo. She enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family and other loved ones.

After being diagnosed with COPD, she had a fierce determination to remain independent, which she did.

Three daughters survived Dorothy, Rosella Lottner- Louks, Paula Richardson (Marv Johansen), Kaye Easter-Peck (Ken). There are 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and special friends, who loved Grandma Dorothy.

All of us will remember those very special hugs.

Her sister, Jo and brother- in-law, Angus Lane; son-in-law, Lowell Louks; step-son, Ethan Grant and his wife, Martha preceded her in death.

A Celebration of Dorothy's life is planned for Saturday, May 8, 2004 at the Marysville United Methodist Church, 1234 New Jersey at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Thompson and The Rev. Franklin Bennett will preside.

Memorials can be made to the Marysville United Methodist Church; the American Diabetes Association; or the donor's choice.

Arrangements provided by Smith Family Funeral Home.

Vennessa Dillard

Vennessa L. Dillard, age 17, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Alexxis; fiance, Adrian; mother, Deloris; two brothers, Robert and Patrick; grandparents, John and Sharon Socia and grandfather, Robert J. Dillard Jr.

Vennessa is preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Dillard III in 1994.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street.

Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Detroit.
