Dorothy Bark

Dorothy "Phyllis" Bark, age 89, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 10, 1914 in St. Clair.

Dorothy married Melvin W. Bark on Aug. 29, 1931. He died Oct. 5, 1977.

She is survived by four sons, Melvin Bark Jr. of St. Clair, Larry Bark of Florida, James and Ronald Bark of Port Huron Twp.; one sister, Mrs. Kathryn Fischer of Sarnia, Ontario; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Donna) Zimmer of St. Clair; sister-in-law, Leona Zimmer of Rossford, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn VanBuskirk; brother, William Zimmer Jr.; grandson, Melvin Bark III; and a great-granddaughter, Sara Chicoski.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St.

Axel Christensen

Axel Chris Christensen, age 94, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 in Marwood Manor.

He was born March 23, 1909 in Marlette, son of the late Lawrence and Clara Christensen.

Axel will always be remembered as the "World's Best Father and Grandfather."

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Christensen; daughter, Carolyn Smith of Port Huron; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Dorothy Christensen of West Branch; granddaughters, Kathy (Leo) Strauch, Tammy (Carl) Wickings and Tina Christensen; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Odar, John and Clarence.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Pastor Donald Sperling will officiate.

Burial will be in Watertown cemetery in Watertown, MI.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may be made to the wishes of the family.

Russel Caulkett

Russell M. Caulkett, 83 of Port St. Lucie, FL and formerly of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 in the Hospice Residence of Stuart, FL.

He was born to the late Elmer Caulkett and Mary (Fraser) Caulkett on August 25, 1920 in Port Huron.

Russell worked for Shallcross Optical Co. for many years and then joined his wife, Erma Jean Caulkett, in the real estate business. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Port Huron Lodge #58 F & AM.

In 1972, Russell and Erma Jean joined their children in Florida and Russell taught optical classes in the Florida Department of Corrections. He was a member of Port St. Lucie Lodge #2658 B.P.O.E. and enjoyed family, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, the former Erma Jean Rapley; two children, Judith Beckman and David W. Caulkett, both of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sisters, Virginia (Charles) Whipple, Fort Gratiot Twp. and Phyllis Mitchell, Marysville, MI; his sister-in-law, Elsie Rapley, Valparaiso, IN; his brother-in-law, John Graham, Frankenmuth, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial has taken place in Lakeside cemetery. Burial arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street.

A service in Russell's memory will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 in First United Methodist Church, Port Huron. The Rev. David Gladstone will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Inc.

Beverly Brough

Mrs. Beverly J. Brough, 74, of Port Huron, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 in Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

She was born on May 5, 1929 in Port Huron, daughter of the late Lee and Madelin Kivel.

Beverly married James J. Brough on January 29, 1949 in Port Huron.

She was a former employee of Chrysler, Mueller Brass Company and a Greeter at K-Mart. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #99. She enjoyed bowling, camping, shopping and her family.

Beverly is survived by her husband, James J. Brough of Port Huron; son and daughter-in-law, James and Diane Brough of Port Huron; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Arthur Plummer Jr. of Port Huron; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Susan Brough of Port Huron; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Mary Kay Brough of Port Huron; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Daniel Healy of Port Huron; sister-in-law Marcella Kivel of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a infant son in 1950 and a brother Lee Kivel Jr. in 1970.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street. Priest Jon Teeple of Community of Christ Church and Evangelist Harold Hastings will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Visiting hours will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James L. Brough, Thomas W. Brough, Jeffrey J. Brough, Arthur Plummer Jr., Arthur Plummer III and Donald Healy.

Memorial tributes may be made to the wishes of the family.

James Brough

Mr. James J. Brough, 74 of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness.

He was born on April 18, 1930 in Port Huron, son of the late James and Ethel Brough.

James married the former Beverely J. Kivel on January 29, 1949 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2004.

James retired from E.B. Eddy Paper Co in 1994. He was a member of L.O.O.M #158, Charles Hammond American Legion Post #8 and he enjoyed camping and bowling.

James is survived by his children, James and Diane Brough of Port Huron, Sharon and Arthur Plummer Jr. of Port Huron, Thomas and Susan Brough of Port Huron and Jeffrey and Mary Kay Brough of Port Huron; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Pamela and Daniel Healy of Port Huron; sister-in-law, Marcella Kivel of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a infant son in 1950.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Seppo of Life of Faith Fellowship will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday and 9 a.m. on Friday.

A L.O.O.M #158 Memorial Service will be 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Memorial donations are requested to the American Lung Association.

Virginia Bridge

Longtime Port Huron resident Virginia J. Bridge, 89, died Sunday, January 25, 2004, due to complications of a long illness. She passed in the arms of her family at Barss Residential. Virginia was born February 4, 1914 in Westville, Indiana to Edward and Martha Jardine.

She attended Quakerdom, a one room elementary and intermediate school and graduated from Westville High School, April 29, 1931. She attened Ball State Unversity, Muncie, Indiana and received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1935. Upon graduation, Virginia took employment at University of Michigan Hospital where she was head Pediatric nurse. She met the love of her life, Dr. Ezra V. Bridge, better known as Zeke, while working at U of M Hospital. They married July 26, 1939 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and enjoyed forty-one years together until his death January 20, 1990. Virginia was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Virginia was a woman of many talents. Raised on a farm, she loved gardening and animals, welcoming any stray her children brought home. She was an accomplished seamstress, outstanding cook and great dancer. She took great pleasure in telling stories of childhood and sharing life and culture of a past era. A survivor of breast cancer, Virginia spent many hours sharing with other women her experience, giving support, hope and encouragement. She and Zeke loved music and dancing, and belonged to several dance clubs. They spent many hours enjoying Lake Huron sailing aboard their Folkboat. A fabulous cook, she amazed all with her imaginative culinary skills. She will be remembered fondly for a kitchen, that not a day went by, where homemade cookies, pies, special Finnish rolls and cakes were in abundance. Vacations were shared at the family's island in Temagami, Ontario and Anna Maria Florida home. She devoted many hours to working with her husband in his medical office. Virginia was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Virginia was a member of American Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, St. Clair County Medical Auxiliary, Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary, Sultan's Dance Club, Assembly Dance Club, Wednesday Night Dinner Dance, Formal Dance Club, Rainbow Girls (daughters of the Eastern Star), First Congrational Church, Port Huron Garden Club, Sarnia Yacht Club, and Services to American Red Cross Nursing. She served as President for many of these organizations as well as several board positions. For the past four years, Virginia lived at Barss Residential, where the incredible staff loved and cared for her as one of their own.

Virginia is survived by her three children; Ezra Edward Bridge (Marie), Cyrus Beach Bridge (Roberta) and Letitia Bridge Austin (Doug); grandchildren, Hilary Bridge Buechler, (Bob), Laura, Michael, Sheena, James, Christopher, Scott (Vicky), Brian (Angi), Nancy (Tim); great grandchildren, Lindsay, Erin, Charlie, Hunter, Brooke, McKinnis, Finn and Maleah. Her brothers, Earl and Noel, preceded her in death. She leaves behind an extended family of numerous first and second cousins, nieces and nephews and Sue Bridge.

She will be forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2004 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home, North Chapel. The celebration of life is Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 11 a.m., Smith Family Funeral Home, North Chapel, Port Huron.

She will be honored by Dr. Robert Starky

The pallbearers will be Ezra Bridge, Cryus Bridge, Hilary Bridge Buechler, Michael Remeselnik, Harvey Kirkendall, James Bridge and Christopher Bridge. Honorary pallbearers will be John W. Shier, Dr. Herbert Hazeldine, Scott Austin, Brian Austin and Tim Woodland.

Memorials may be made in her honor and memory to the St. Clair County Humane Society or the donors choice.

Kathleen Colgan

Kathleen Colgan, 52, of Smiths Creek, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003.

She was born Aug. 25, 1951 in Detroit.

She married Eric Colgan on June 25, 1995 in Saginaw Twp.

Mrs. Colgan was previously employed with Ameritech as a sales representative.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Howard Saunders and Mr. and Mrs. Adam (Dana) Saunders; two grandsons, Orin and Kylan; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bob (Cindy) Thornsberry; two nephews, Chris and Curtis Thornsberry; two sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Andy (Gail) Rosales and Debbie Ellis; and a brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob (Diane) Colgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Suchodolski and Jane Suchodolski-Deschamps.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett. The Rev. Father Jasper Sirianni will officiate.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are by Marysville Funeral Home.

Wanda Cash

Wanda A. Cash, 71, of Marysville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 02, 2003 after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 26, 1932 in Port Huron to the late John and Grace Tracy.

She married Donald Cash on Nov. 29, 1952.

Mrs. Cash graduated from Port Huron High School. She took great pride in being a homemaker and enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. Later in life she was a school bus driver for the Woodlands Developmental Center and managed the Gift Shop at Port Huron Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marysville. She was also a volunteer at Port Huron Hospital and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She is survived by her daughter, Vickie (John) Hurley of Port Huron; three sons, Ken (Joanne) Cash of Marysville, Dale (Lynn) Cash of Smiths Creek and David (Judy) Cash of Livonia; a special niece whom she raised, Marilyn (William) Hopkins; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many close friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence, Frank, Gerard, Donald, Edgar and Gerald.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev. Cedric Whitcomb will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Cash, Dale Cash, David Cash, John Hurley II, John Hurley III, Roger Cash, Gary Cash, William Hopkins and Scott Hopkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Cash Jr., Jared Cash, and Daniel Cash.

Jeffery Carnes

Jeffery L. Carnes, 29, of Kimball Township, died, Sunday, November 16, 2003 after a long illness.

He was born September 16, 1974 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Elton Carnes Jr. and the late Kathy Comben Carnes.

Mr. Carnes was a Carpenter and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Tricia" Inch-Carnes; daughter, Amanda; special nephew, Timothy Hornbostel; his father, Mr. and Mrs. Elton (Debbie) Carnes Jr.; three brothers, Nicholas, Jonathon and David Carnes; a sister-in-law Jennifer Hornbostel; niece, Kaitlyn Dulemba; grandparents, Edna Carnes, Fran Lotridge, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald (Theola) Pearson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Rebecca) Inch; several aunts and uncles including Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Dee) Hiltunen, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Shawn) Mikkelson, and Mr. and Mrs. Cam (Phyllis) Hale and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy; grandmother, Dorothy Goodrich and great grandmother, Edna Sparling.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Pastor Scott Stapleford of North Street Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt Hope cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Hornbostel, Bill Mikkelson, Brian Carnes, Ed Williams, Steve Hornbostel and Jeff Higgens.

Memorials may be made to the family.
