Erma Deachin

Erma A. Deachin, age 85, of Port Huron, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Evangelical Home with her family at her side.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1918 in Wadhams, daughter of the late William and Mary (Sibley) Barcume.

She married Earl L. Freeman on Aug. 12, 1938. After his death on July 2, 1960, she married Kenneth P. Deachin on Aug. 5, 1961. He died on Jan. 22, 1991.

Erma was a member of the Salvation Army and St. Joseph churches. She loved going to Florida in the winters and having picnics with her family.

She is survived by a son, Edward L. (Dolores) Freeman of Algonac; daughter, Judith (Ronald) McNutt of Port Huron; grandchildren, Kenneth McNutt, Patricia Anglebrandt, Michael McNutt, Ronald and Richard Freeman, Ruth (Tim) Johnston, Becky (Andy) Felk, Shelly Horn, Tami (David) Cooper and Teddy Marquardt; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda McNutt, Jeremy and Dustin Anglebrandt, Natalie, Neve and Noah McNutt and Adam Cooper; her only great-great-grandchild, Karlee McNutt and her mother, Lindsay Ottaway; step-children, Duane Deachin, Don (Pat) Deachin, Linda (Robert) Glyshaw, as well as six step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Erma is preceded in death by three sisters, Lena, Emma and Velma and five brothers, John, Don, Delmar, Floyd and Billie; a son, Ronald Earl Freeman in 1951 and a great-grandson, Randy Cooper in 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Captain Timothy Meyer, Corp Officer of the Salvation Army will officiate.

Burial will be in Kinney cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Salvation Army or to the Evangelical Home.

Donald Crowe

Donald H. Crowe, age 61, of Deckerville, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in Mercy Hospital.

He was born on July 11, 1943, son of the late Helen J. Crowe.

He is survived by a brother, Duane Crowe of Burtchville; longtime companion, Francis C. Howe of Deckerville; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Crowe and a sister, Gloria Powers.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St.

Helen Cripps

After a full and active life, local artist Helen Mary 'Nell' Cripps passed away July 22, 2004 in her 94th year. She was born December 4, 1909 in County Maskoleth, Ontario, Canada, the sixth child of James and Emily Gibbons. The Gibbons family emigrated from London, England in 1907 to Fesserton, Ontario, Canada. She married Willmond E. A. 'Bill' Cripps of Acton, Ontario on September 10, 1928. She and her family moved to Coral Gables, FL in 1950. In 1957 she, her husband, and daughter moved to Michigan.

Nell began painting in 1965 in oils. She joined the Blue Water Art Association shortly after moving to Port Huron in 1978. Her love of painting led her to develop her talents in other media. Watercolor painting and mixed media collages reflected her love of nature. She has exhibited in numerous juried shows and in a gallery in New York's SoHo district. Her artwork hangs in several businesses and homes around the county and in several states and countries. Nell loved to walk and had belonged to the Port Huron Hiking Club, and also the '39 and Holding Group.'

Nell is survived by her sons, Ronald (Bernadine) Cripps of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, David (Anne) Cripps of New York City, NY, and her daughter Mary M. 'Peggy' Lawton of Fort Gratiot; eight grandchildren, Gregory Cripps and Brenda (Doug) Law, both of Sydenham, Ontario, Glenda (Randy) Gilmour of Kanata, Ontario, Alexander Cripps and Benjamin Cripps, both of New York, Denise (Kurtis) Ralston of Baytown, TX, David (Linda) Camp of Clio, MI, and Laura Lawton of Ft Gratiot; seven great grandchildren, Megan Curtis, Alanna, Sarah, Joshua, Autumn, and Billy; many nieces & nephews; and her many friends including those of the Blue Water Art Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willmond E.A. Cripps in 1972, her son-in-law Floyd E. Lawton in 1986, and her daughter, Beverly A. Cripps in 2000.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2004 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Stanley Wyczawski, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Scriptural Wake service will take place in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.

Contributions may be made in Nell's memory to Catholic Relief Services or the charity of the donor's choice.

Richard Carmichael

Richard G. 'Rick' Carmichael, age 56, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 12, 2004 in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born January 11, 1948 in Port Huron and had lived here most of his life. He married Karen Krist on May 9, 1970 in Port Huron. Rick served his country as a marine during the Vietnam War. He worked as a private trucker for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father. Rick loved Jesus, and was a member of Zion Cathedral of Praise in Port Huron.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Port Huron, 2 sons, Kevin M. (fiancée Kristi Stroh) Carmichael of Port Huron, and Robert J. (Diana) Carmichael of Fort Gratiot, his mother, Mildred C. Carmichael of Burtchville Twp., 3 grandsons, Alex, Justin, and Cody Carmichael all of Port Huron, 3 granddaughters, Rylee, Carmichael of Port Huron, Carley Ann Gilbert of Fort Gratiot, and Mikaela Rae Carmichael also of Fort Gratiot, 4 sisters, Susan (Tom) McFarland of Burtchville, Marilyn (Dave) King of Belding, Michigan, Patricia (Bill) Wagner of Port Huron Twp., Christine Carmichael of Marysville, a brother, David (Paula) Carmichael of Fort Gratiot, sister-in-law, Sharon (Tom) Gould of Port Huron, brother-in-law, Larry Krist of Port Huron, special niece, Melanie (Bob) Prentice of Burtchville, and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Gordon Carmichael. Friends and family will celebrate his life at 11 AM Monday in the Zion Cathedral of Praise 3001 Moak St. with Bishop John Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Clair County Allied Veterans cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be David Carmichael, Bob Prentice, Don Fortune, Tom McFarland, Mark Paeth, Bill Wagner.

Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock St., and on Monday at church from 10 to 11 AM. Memorials may be made to the Zion Cathedral of Praise.

William Rawley

William P. Rawley, age 71, of Port Huron died Sunday, April 18, 2004 in his home.

He was born March 30, 1933 in Wilksbarre, Pennsylvania, and has lived in Port Huron nearly all his life.

He married Alice Rebitzke on May 23, 1953 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

He attended Port Huron Schools and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1952. Bill worked for Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 30 years until his retirement in the early 1990's. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force. He loved to build and remodel homes. He was a former member of the Port Huron Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife Alice B. Rawley of Port Huron; three daughters, Barbara A. Brigham of Park City, Utah, Kathleen M. Zgieb of Port Huron, and Patricia L. (Scott) Lymburner of Port Huron; four grandchildren, Donald J. "D.J." Zgieb III, William P. Zgieb, Kelli C. Zgieb, and Allison M. Lymburner all of Port Huron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty June Rawley and Patricia VanSickle; a brother, Joseph T. Rawley; two infant granddaughters, Jessica J. Janisch and Katie K. Brigham; and his son-in-law, Donald J. Zgieb Jr.

The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with The Rev. Fr. Rene Desmarais officiating.

Cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Friends may visit today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Blue Water Hospice or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Jean Reid

Jean Edith Reid, 90, formerly of Port Huron and Flint, died Monday, May 10, 2004 in Dewitt, MI.

She was born January 29, 1914 in Port Huron to the late Albert and Clara Merritt.

Jeanne married William Henry Reid and moved to Adrian, MI and eventually to Flint where they raised their family. William preceded her in death in 1977.

Jeanne was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Community Presbyterian Church and its Mary Martha Circle where she served in all capacities. She was also an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her children, Gloria J. Reid of Lake Tahoe, CA, James M. (Barbara) Reid of Bay City, William H. Reid, Jr. of Port Huron and Patricia J. (Frederick) Blackmond of Dewitt; five grandchildren, Michael J. (Mary) Reid, Kara S. (Geoff) Marshall, Paul, Michael and Nicholas Blackmond and four great grandchildren, James Reid, Hannah, John and Meghan Marshall.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday in the Chapel at Lakeside cemetery. The Reverend Donald R. Doerzbacher, Pastor of Our Saviour Lutheran Church will officiate.

Burial in the cemetery will follow.

There are no visiting hours scheduled.

Those desiring may make memorials to Community Presbyterian Church, Flint or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Mrs. Reid.

The family is being served by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron.

Mario Rini

Mr. Mario J. Rini Sr., 69, of Port Huron Twp., passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late James and Carmella (Mildred) Rini.

Mario married MaryAnn J. Bennett on Dec. 4, 1971 in Royal Oak.

Mario and his wife lived in Payson, Arizona from 1988-1996 before moving back to Michigan.

He loved the outdoors, gardening, motorcycling and playing baseball. He was an avid Tigers fan and watched baseball as much as possible.

Mario also enjoyed history and reading about it. He was a former manager of Chatum Supermarkets.

He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn of Port Huron Twp.; children, Mario J. Rini of Florida, Kim M. Rini of Lawrence, Kansas, Mary Kay Newson of Las Vegas, Nevada, James A. Rini of Las Vegas, Nevada, Teresa (Eric) Stout of Las Vegas, Nevada, August J. Rini of Port Huron, James K. (Susan) Bennett of Harper Woods, and Tammy (Scott) Ivers of Grosse Pointe Park; 13 grandchildren, Anthony, Kelly, Nicholas, Andrew, Aaron, Jeffrey, Jordan, Casey, Michael, Mark, Alex, Erin and Axel; brothers, Charles (Shirley) Rini, James A. Rini and Joseph (Marilyn) Rini; several nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Antoinette Makowski.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. The Rev. Max Amstutz, Port Huron Hospital, Chaplain will officiate.

Visiting hours are 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Children's Miracle Network or the Kidney Foundation.

Larry Rowe

Larry W. Rowe, age 55, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 in Mt. Clemens General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1949 in Haleyville, Alabama.

Larry served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired Draftsman and Engineer. He enjoyed computers and reading.

He is survived by a step-daughter, Theresa Castro of Richmond; a step-daughter, Clarissa Castro of Port Huron; and a sister, Gelia Palmer of New York.

Cremation arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Port Huron.

Memorial tributes may be made to the wishes of the family.

Leonard Seaton

Leonard H. Seaton, age 91, of Port Huron, died Thursday, April 15, 2004 in Ypsilanti after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 5, 1913 in Port Huron and was a life long resident.

He married Dorothy M. Manthey May 25, 1940 in Port Huron. She died June 23, 1978.

He worked at Chrysler Corp for 38 years. He enjoyed travel, photography and bowling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered most for the time he devoted to helping others, and caring for those in need.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Sandy) Seaton of Belleville; a granddaughter, Kimberly A. (Albert) Potvin of St. Clair; three grandsons, Robert G. (Wendy) Seaton of Ortonville, Terry L. (Jayleen) Seaton of Emmett and Michael H. Seaton of Canton; four great-grandchildren, Cassandra Potvin, Christopher, T.J. and Emily Seaton; a cousin, Hester Adler of Harper Woods.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday in the Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 7th St. with The Rev. Herb Heavner officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Edward Podsiadlo

Edward F. 'Eddie' Podsiadlo, 80 of Fort Gratiot Twp. and Winter Haven, FL, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004 in his residence in Fort Gratiot Twp.

He was born to Andrew and Valeria Podsiadlo on February 26, 1924 in Mt. Clemens, MI and married Eileen DeHate in 1945 in Mt. Clemens. Five children were born of this marriage and they experienced wonderful times rearing their family. Eileen died of cancer Sept. 23, 1981.

On November 30, 1984 he married Grace Wolford of Winter Haven, FL and they were blessed with 20 happy years together. They loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Alaska, Hawaii, South Dakota, Manitoba, Alberta, and California, to name a few. As members of the Wally Bynam Airstream Club for several years, they traveled to many local, state, and national rallys.

Eddie worked for the Mt. Clemens Dodge Dealership as chief mechanic for 36 years. Upon retirement he worked part time for Stroh's Distributorship. He also owned and operated a cattle farm in Melvin, Michigan.

Eddie loved working at many home projects, and was very talented at building, remodeling, and making special conveniences for Grace in their Florida home. He was a very dedicated husband, father, step father, and grandfather. Eddie 'loved big' and was loved by all who knew him. He especially loved his beautiful family'his son, four daughters, and their children.

Eddie was raised Catholic but, for 20 years, he attended the Methodist Church with Grace.

He is survived by his present wife, Grace; his son, Jim (Patty) Podsiadlo, Crossville, TN; four daughters, Jill (Tom) Fox, Fort Gratiot, Debbie (Ed) Johnson, Emmett, Denise (Arnie) Penette, Ypsilanti, and Peggy Semrow, Fort Gratiot; eleven grandchildren; four step children; his sister, JeanTarrington; and a nephew, Ron (Kathy) Tarrington, North Port, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother Mitchell and his sister, Frances.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. David Gladstone of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 7-9 PM and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. On Friday there will be a Scriptural Wake service in the funeral home at 7 PM.

Contributions may be made in Eddie's memory to First United Methodist Church, Port Huron, or in Winter Haven, FL, the Girl Scout Troops of Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church or the Florida Methodist Children's Home.
