Jane Rae

H. Jane Rae, 88 of Port Huron, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, March 9, 2005.

She was born February 19, 1917 in Port Huron to the late George and Charlotte Rae, was a 1936 graduate of Port Huron High School, and received her bachelor of arts degree from Michigan Normal College, (now Eastern Michigan University). She received her master of arts degree in education from the University of Michigan, did sixth year graduate work in administration at Wayne State University, and did additional graduate work at Columbia University.

Jane taught in the Madison School, was an ssistant principal at Garfield School, and was principal at both Harrison School and Jefferson Elementary School. She was a past president of the Elementary Principals Association of St. Clair-Macomb Counties, was past president of the Port Huron branch of University Women, and was a member of Cross Current Church.

She is survived by her brother, George Rae PhD. of Shippensburg, PA.; a nephew, George Ramsay Rae of Hagerston, MD. and his son, Andrew Lenahan Rae of Camp Hill, PA.; a nephew, Thomas Rae of Derwood, MD; and a nephew and niece, Charles and Cindy Rae and their three children Marissa, George and Connie Rae of Carlisle, PA. She is also survived by her faithful companion and friend, Linda L. Genaw of Fort Gratiot, and Jane's godchildren, Lexie Ramirez, Aaron Rivera and Isaac Stewart, all of Port Huron.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. Pastor Mark Seppo of Cross Current Church will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Jay Renno, Michael Chargot Jr., Douglas Price, David Thompson, Thomas Rae, Charles Rae, and George Ray III.

Contributions may be made in Jane's memory to Salvation Army or Cross Current Church.

Richard Laming

Richard W. Laming, age 72, of Port Huron Twp. died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness. He was born December 7, 1932 in Custer, Michigan, and lived in the Port Huron area for most of his life.

He married Janet Doan on February 17, 1968 in Port Huron.

Dick worked 29 years at St. Clair Rubber Co. and 15 years at Lambs Welding in Marysville. He also owned and operated Laming Excavating. He served his country during the Korean War, was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Hammond Post 8, and was a member of the Moose Lodge #158. He enjoyed playing pool and working in his pole barn.

Dick especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Laming of Port Huron Twp.; son, Michael John (Valerie) Laming of Lakeport; daughter, Marnie (Bryan) Lawry of Port Huron Twp.; sons, Richard Laming Jr. and Michael Louise (Marie) Laming; and daughter, Debbie Laming, all of Grand Ledge, Michigan; a sister, Carol (Al) Richter of Springfield, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louise and Earl Laming; a brother, William Laming; and two sisters, Elaine Havner and Helen Wisswell.

The funeral service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with The Rev. David Caswell officiating.

A service of committal will follow the funeral service under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Memorials may be made at the discretion of the donor.

Harold Lane

Harold W. Lane, 81, of Fort Gratiot Twp., passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born to James and Agnes Lane on Aug. 23, 1923 in Port Huron and lived most of his life in North Street and Fort Gratiot Twp.

On March 26, 1949, Harold married Marilyn Turck in Angola, Indiana.

Harold served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He owned and operated H. Lane and Son Masonry. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed feeding the birds in his yard, and loved to play his Hawaiian guitar.

Harold is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Marilyn I. Lane; his three children, Alan Lane of Fort Gratiot Twp., Leanne McClenaghan of Brights Grove, Ontario and Sharrie (Pat) Gouin of Ruby; seven grandchildren, Heather, Shawn, Hilary, Raechel, Jonathan, Emily and Patrick; three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Brendin and Austin; two sisters, Lenore Osborn of Applegate and June Hitchings of Port Huron; two brothers, George Lane of North Street and Alvin Lane of Fort Gratiot Twp.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children, Randall Lane and Karen Eagle; two brothers, Bob and Howard Lane; and a sister, Mary Miller.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. Pastor Mike Durning of Mt. Pleasant Bible Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8th.

Pallbearers will be Pat Gouin, Larry Smith, Gary Renno, Ron Scriver, Jon McClenaghan, Darcy LaFrance, Shawn Eagle, Brian Caughel and Brenn Turck.

Contributions may be made in Harold's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.

Frances Kiskadden

Frances P. Kiskadden, daughter of the late Bernard and Addell Payton, age 95, born April 10, 1909 in Deckerville, MI died February 5, 2005.

Frances lived in Port Huron for many years, graduated from Port Huron High School. She worked for several years for A.B. Dick Co. as office manager and was a member of the Zonta Business Women's Association Club. When the U.S. Government closed the branch office claiming they had a monopoly on the product, she returned to Port Huron working for Vining Thompson furniture and for Moak Machine and Tool Co. She lived in Holiday and New Port Richey Florida from 1966 to 1981, returning to Michigan and had been living in East Tawas for the past several years. Her husband John McCauley Kiskadden, graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School was with Longley and Middleton Law Firm in Detroit, he died several years ago.

Frances is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several dear friends.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Rene L. Desmarais will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Arrangements are by the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Donald Isabell

Donald J. Isabell, 80, of Port Huron, passed away in Mercy Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005.

He was born to Roy and Minnie Isabell on March 5, 1924 in Port Huron and married Mary Lent on Feb. 25, 1950 in Port Huron. She passed away Oct. 7, 1999.

Don was a veteran on World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He worked at Acheson Colloids for many years until his retirement in the early 1990's. He was a member of the Charles Hammond Post #8 American Legion, Smithsonian Institution, and the Blue Water Lapidary Society.

He is survived by his sister, Wilma Schattler of Kimball Twp.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty Jean Lent of Marysville.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Isabell; and two sisters, Naomi Spencer and Delores LaVere.

Don's remains have been transferred to the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

A service in Don's memory will be held at a later time.

Contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St.

Robert Hamilton

Robert J. Hamilton, 74 of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, February 09, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital following a long illness. He was born to Jack and Hazel Hamilton on May 11, 1930 in Port Huron and married Mary June Eagle on February 1, 1950.

Robert worked at Mueller Brass Co. for over 33 years retiring in 1987. He was a member and former elder at Life of Faith Fellowship Church, a member and Past President of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship, and was a Past President of the Wadhams Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary June Hamilton; his six children, Michael John (Calissa) Hamilton of Fort Gratiot Twp., Debra (William) Forbes of Burtchville Twp., Pamela (Calvin) Gonser of Columbiaville, MI, Cindy (Bryan) Wright of Kimball, Karen (Daniel) Bussey of Lexington, MI, and Scott (Cheryl) Hamilton of Jeddo; twenty-two grandchildren and ; sixteen great grandchildren; four sisters & brothers, Betty Hutchinson of Desert Springs, CA, William (Evelyn) Hamilton of Kalamazoo, MI, Jack (Mariam) Hamilton of Lake Wales, FL, & Ruth Ann (James) Harneck of Jeddo; a brother-in-law, Orval Eagle of Port Huron; several nieces & nephews; and their extended family, Skip and Marsha Jefferson and their two children of Fort Gratiot Twp. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Herbert Hamilton.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street. Pastor Mark Seppo of Life of Faith Fellowship Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Bob's grandsons. Contributions may be made in his memory to Blue Water Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.

Judith Droelle

Judith M. Droelle, age 42, of Port Huron died January 5, 2005 in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

She was born August 6, 1962 in Detroit, and lived in the Port Huron area since 1985.

Judy worked as a supervisor in different assisted living centers. She cared for mentally challenged and incapacitated adults.

She is survived by her daughter, Brandie (B.W.) Gries of Alpena; son, George E. Droelle Jr. of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Jasmine and Brieanna Gries, both of Alpena; two sisters, Denise Morrow of Orlando, Florida, and Karen (John) Smith of Port Huron; and her husband, George E. Droelle Sr. of Port Huron.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Larimore and Cynthia Johnson.

Cremation has taken place.

The family will be planning a memorial service at a later time.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Carrigan

Margaret P. Carrigan, age 87, of Fort Gratiot, died, Sunday, February 6, 2005 in St. John Hospital, Detroit.

She was born June 4, 1917 in Port Huron, and was a life long resident.

She was a graduate of Port Huron High School, Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, and received a B.A. Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan. From 1947 to 1984 Margaret served as the Executive Secretary to the President of Port Huron Hospital. In 1981 she was recognized by the hospital as Employee of the Year. Margaret was a past Board Chair of the International Symphony Orchestra in Port Huron, past President of the American Association of University Women, of which she was a life member. She was also a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority at U of M, was a past Board member for the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and was member of Port Huron Golf Club. Margaret enjoyed golfing, and attending University of Michigan football games for many years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a member of the Circle 6 Women's Association at church. She also participated in Elderhostel trips during retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Nina Carrigan and a sister Phyllis Carrigan.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11th, in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with Mary Ann Stackpoole of Blue Water Hospice officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Educational Foundation of the American Association of University Women, the International Symphony Orchestra, or the Port Huron Salvation Army.

Warren Brewster

Warren L. Brewster, age 81, of Jeddo, died January 11, 2005 in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness.

He was born May 7, 1923 in Owendale, Michigan, and lived in Blue Water area most of his life.

He married Arlene Sontag on February 8, 1947 in Sandusky.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for Mueller Brass for 35 years. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, and the D.A.V.

Warren sold produce at the Croswell stockyards, and on the corner of 20th and Lapeer in Port Huron, and was known as the "Potato Man".

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene Brewster of Jeddo, two daughters, Shirley J. (John) Scourtes of Mt. Clemens, and Fredet L. (Lou) Paulus of Port Huron; a son, William C. (Patricia) Brewster of Port Huron; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, June Brewster of Deckerville, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lou Brewster; two brothers, Mel and Charles Brewster; and a sister-in-law, Jean Brewster.

Cremation has taken place, and the memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Faith Baptist Church in Ruby with Pastor Stephen Pace officiating.

Friends may visit with the family at church one hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Church.

Robert Abdoo

Robert T. "Bob" Abdoo, 58, of Fort Gratiot, died unexpectedly February 6, 2005 at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, Davenport, Florida.

Bob was born June 25, 1946 in Port Huron and was a life long resident here. He married Sally S. Perry March 7, 1979 in Port Huron.

Bob was a 1964 graduate of St. Stephen High School where he was Senior class president.

He participated in athletics during his high school years and was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame of which he was also a board member.

He had a 32 year career with Michigan National Bank, rising through the ranks to become First Vice-president and Regional Manager when he retired in 1997. Recently he had served as a consultant at First Preferred Mortgage Co.

Bob was a member of the Old St. Stephen Athletes and enjoyed golf. He was very involved in his community in various civic, professional and fraternal organizations, often serving as treasurer because of his banking background.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; his brother, Richard A. (Joan) Abdoo of Mequon, WI; a special aunt, Lucille Thomas of Port Huron; a nephew, Mark Abdoo of Washington, D.C.; a niece, Denise Abdoo of Denver, CO; his step-mother, Ruth Smith Abdoo of Port Huron; and her family and aunts and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Dr. Elmer Abdoo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Fr. Stanley A. Wyczawski, Pastor will officiate. Pallbearers will be Greg Duva, George Stebbings, John Vandenbosche, George Fountain, Marty Jacobs and Dennis Kinch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Armstrong, Jody Platzer, Jerry Lynch and Mike Fruge'.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Memorials in Bob's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Clair County Humane Society.
