Nina Joyce Sponseller
January 29, 1921 - February 21, 2006

Nina Joyce Sponseller, age 85, of Shepherd, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at her home, with many members of her family at her side.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1730 E. Pickard Rd, Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Ron Davis and Rev. Darren Greenfield officiating interment will follow at Lincoln Township cemetery.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday from 11:30 a.m. -2 p.m. at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at Helms Funeral Home, 330 South University, Mt. Pleasant.
Nina was born on Saturday, January 29, 1921 the daughter of Claude and Maude (Schnepp) Phelps. She married Ross C. Sponseller on June 15, 1940 in Vestaburg, Michigan. She was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant and Shepherd area. She was a homemaker who enjoyed kids and grandkids, cooking, playing Skipbo and cinnamon rolls.
Nina is survived by her children: Ross Richard (Mary) Sponseller of Shepherd, Tom (Donna) Sponseller of Shepherd, Harry (Phyllis) Sponseller of Dowagiac, Bonnie (Wendell) Pung of Dewitt, Linda (Ron) Davis of Statesville, North Carolina, Bob (Cindy) Sponseller of Shepherd; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, brother: Dale (Arlene) Phelps of Six Lakes; sister-in-law Ruth Phelps of Six Lakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ross on January 19, 2005; two sisters, and five brothers.

Bonita Bonnie Chivington
Tuesday, July 26, 1932 - August 26, 2006

Bonita Bonnie Chivington, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Tendercare Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 29, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Shelpman of Crossroads Baptist Church (formerly Chippewa Baptist Church) officiating.
Friends may gather with the family from 9:00 AM Tuesday August 29, 2006 until time of service.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Wishes of the family.
Bonnie was born on Tuesday, July 26, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the daughter of Clarence and Tressa (Barnes) Chivington. She was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area.
Bonita is survived by one brother Richard (Sandra) Chivington of Mt. Pleasant, two sisters Donna (Glenn) Stacy of Shepherd and Martha Bell of Homer, Michigan and several nieces/nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Laura Morrison.

KATHRYN SOMPI JOHNSON
November 26, 1915 - October 31, 2006

Kathryn Sompi Johnson, born in Washington Township., Pennsylvania, and formerly of Willowbrook Road, Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania, passed away in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, on October 31, 2006, following a long battle with Alzheimers disease. She remained faithful to her Lutheran roots throughout her life.
Kay is survived by her son J. Kenneth (Doris) Johnson, of Lake Isabella, Michigan, a brother Carl (Rita) Sompi of Rhode Island, granddaughters Sharon (Randall) Byrd, Northville, Michigan, Susan (David) Staggs of Morganton, North Carolina, and Rachel (Leonard) Olson of Carleton, Michigan, as well as great-grandchildren, Caroline and Madison Byrd, Amanda Staggs, and Kirk, Kyle, and Kara Olson. Her husband, John F. Johnson, son Van Miles Johnson, parents Gust Sompi and Mary Poro Sompi preceded her in death as did her five sisters, Lina Huber, Stella Anderson, Martha Schwilm, Ina Johnston, and Jenny Tolska.
Kay was a graduate of California, Pennsylvania, High School and went to secretarial school in Pittsburgh. In following years, she was employed as an executive secretary at the Pittsburgher and Roosevelt Hotels and at the Allegheny Club at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. After moving to Michigan, she was employed in the same capacity for Wright Line in Dearborn until her retirement. She was an avid golfer and loved to walk, swim, and read.
She moved to the Mt. Pleasant area and was cared for by her loving son and daughter-in-law while residing at New Hope Assisted Living Center and more recently at the Wooden Rocker.
Cremation has taken place. The cremated remains will be returned to Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, for graveside services and interment.

James Carl Wood
February 15, 1935 - October 28, 2006

James Carl Wood, age 71, of Remus, Michigan passed away on Friday, October 28, 2006 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Services will be held on Friday November 3, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home, 330 S. University Ave., Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with Mr. Jeffrey Gritton officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will take place in Riverside cemetery in Alma.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the donors choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
James was born on Friday, February 15, 1935 the son of James Carl and Lottie Mae Wood. He married Doraluvinia Serelia Randall on February 16, 1973 in Los Angeles County, California. He was a resident of the Remus area for the past sixteen years after moving back from California. He grew up in the Big Rapids, Michigan area then moved to California where he worked as an Aero Space Engineer for Rockwell International. He was the owner of Kingsley Limited, a publishing company. He was very active as a historian for the Red Arrow Division of WWII.
James is survived by Dora, his wife of 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clarence Woodrow Ball
November 23, 1917 - October 19, 2006

Clarence Ball, age 88, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Sunday, October 22, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Clarence was born in Union Township on November 23, 1917, the son of Clarence and Anna Ball. He lived in Mt. Pleasant his whole life, marrying Margaret Downing in 1944. Clarence had farmed, worked as a mail carrier and worked for Hubschers gravel pit. Over the years Clarence enjoyed lapidary work, woodworking, camping and fishing on Lake Superior, playing cards, eating at Big Boy and Ponderosa, and spending time with family.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret; Three children, Anne (Steve) Lees, Pat (Tom) Swindlehurst, and Mike (Jan) Ball; six grandchildren, Julie Swanson, Jay Perry, Aaron Swindlehurst, Elizabeth Oberlander, Christopher Ball, and Alexander Ball; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Community Hospital Building Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Donald Ray Hall

Donald R. Hall, age 61, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at The Laurels, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Services are pending. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Hazel Marie Bragdon
July 27, 1925 - October 16, 2006

Hazel Marie Bragdon, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on October 16, 2006 at her home, with her family at her side.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Hazel was born on Monday, July 27, 1925 the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Robinson) Haaland She married Charles Robert Bragdon. She was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area all of her married life. Hazel worked as a teachers aide for several years and in the packing and shipping department of Education Materials Center. She attended the Central Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, and growing flowers.
Hazel is survived by her six children: Christine (John) Bragdon-Lau of Owosso, Virginia (Mike) Woodbury of Mt. Pleasant, Martha (David) Pety of Mt. Pleasant, Katherine (Chuck) Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, Lesa (Joe) Wohlscheid of Remus, and Charles R. (Beth King) Bragdon, II of Mt. Pleasant; special friends: John (Mary) Bartel of DeWitt; brothers: Oscar Haaland of California, Clarence Tip Haaland of California, and Bill Haaland of Minnesota; sisters: Alice Starr of New Mexico, Enga Bashore of Michigan, and Carol Bronstein of California; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on September 13, 1982, both parents, two sisters, and a brother.

Margaret Joyce Walz
August 25, 1925 - October 16, 2006

Margaret Joyce Walz, age 81, of Weidman, Michigan passed away on Monday, October 16, 2006 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Mary Ann Justin-Evans of the Rosebush Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, October 19 from 4-7 p.m.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association or the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Margaret was born on Tuesday, August 25, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan the daughter of Leonard and Mame (Stull) Wooley. On August 16, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, she married Donald E. Walz. She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Flint, Lansing, and Coldwater Lake, MI. Margaret was employed as a school teacher for Flint Community Schools and also for the Lansing School District. She also worked as a substitute teacher for awhile. She attended Rosebush Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Tri Sigma.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Donald Walz; a son, Charles Walz; two grandchildren, Mathew and Andrew Walz; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Michael, three brothers and two sisters.

Marcia Jane Miller
March 14, 1949 - October 11, 2006

Marcia Jane Miller, age 57, of Rosebush, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Gary Lutes of the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow beside her parents in Two Rivers cemetery, Isabella County.
Friends may gather with the family on Sunday, October 15 from 2-4 pm. and again on Monday, October 16 from 4-7 p.m.
Memorial contributions to assist with funeral expenses for Marcia have been suggested by the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Marcia was born on Monday, March 14, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant the daughter of Clayton and Burdella (Denslow) Miller. Marcia lived most of her life in the Mt. Pleasant area, and lived for a period of time in Flint. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, where she was very active. She was employed as a care giver for Ledema West for 11 years. She enjyed being with her family, and was a very caring and generous lady.
Marcy is survived by her sisters: Judy (Barry) Lamb of Blanchard, Michigan, Carol (Joe) Bleise of Weidman, Michigan, and Debora (Greg) Peffer of Weidman, Michigan; brothers: Ed (Judy) Miller of Brooksville, Florida, Vern (Carol) Miller of Weidman, Michigan, and Marty Miller of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and Marcy's adopted mother, Ledema West.

Letha May Wolfe
July 1, 1931 - October 7, 2006

Letha May Wolfe, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor James Turner officiating.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, October 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home.
The family has suggested memorial contributions in Lethas memory be made to The American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Letha was born on Wednesday, July 1, 1931 in Isabella County, Michigan the daughter of Leland and Alberta (Thatcher) Darling. She has been a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for the past 10 years. Letha was the owner of Maywood Restaurant in Jonesville, Michigan and retired from Jonesville Products.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Jessup of of Pilot Mountain, NC, Patricia Johnson of St. Paul, MN, two step sons, Phillip Wolfe of Lansing, and Gregory and Sally Wolfe of Wisconsin; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Richard Darling of Mt. Pleasant, Jack and Phyllis Darling of Mt. Pleasant, and Francis Darling of Hayward, CA; two sisters, Barbara Esch of Mecosta, MI, and Peggy Hayward of Hamilton, IN.
Letha was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Darling; four sisters, Velma Mullikin, Betty White, Donna Grace, and Ruth Jones.
